I have been using Western Union for years, I live in Australia and my Wife's family live in the Philippines, I had use Western Union to transfer money at different times, even to Buy land on a monthly basis a couple of years back, recently we built a small house on the land and used Western Union to pass on the funds for this, we had recently decided to upgrade the toilet and shower are, install a new water pump and put an extended living area on,, all was going well and then out of the blue western union put a hold on one of my small transfers..., around $500 to continue the project.. so I called them,, well they asked hundreds of questions , and basically saying they didn't believe me,,, after all my loyal years to Western Union, the fees I have paid , and this is the way i am treated,, now I need to wait 5 days to get my money Back,, Western Union,, you are not worth considering using again. there are so many other money transfer options on the market now,, I hope you go broke and no one uses your platform.. so people,, take a look at other platforms before considering using this ungrateful company..
Run away fast
This is a longish read, but it might give some idea of what it can be like to deal with Western Union.
I had to pay a large international USD invoice. I did a test transfer of $100, which the recipient received that Friday. So I went back on Monday to transfer the remaining large amount, which the recipient had to get by the following Friday.
Oops: no can do. Apparently there’s an AU$7,500 (less than US$5,000) limit per transfer. So I’d have to do multiple transfers. Simple, right?
Wrong. I started off with two transfers of AU$7,500. Both we...re accepted, the agent took the money from my [large national bank] debit card, and gave me MTCN numbers. Then I tried a third, which their system rejected. Ok, I’ll try again tomorrow. But 20 minutes later, I got an SMS from Western Union to say that both the accepted transfers were on hold, and to ring their customer support number - which the message didn’t provide.
WU is fraud
Its been 10 f**kng days i havn't got my money. Pathetic service i have ever seen in my life. They are absolutely scammers, never gonna trust them again in life.
After using the service regularly for several years, suddenly had a transaction cancelled.
Was asked personal questions about my relationship to money receiver with no explanation of the laws/rules/requirements as to the reason for such personal questions.
Was spoken to very rudely twice.
Was provided false information several times.
Was told to contact my bank who gave me the opposite information to what they had told me.
Was told to process a 2nd transaction that was also cancelled with no explanation.
Had to repeat personal questions. When...
They kept my fund transfer on hold after providing a source of funds
I have transferred one of the fund pooling money to the receiver and provided all required docs. but their account verification team keeps on asking multiple times for the same docs and delaying fund transfer from the last 10days. I hope they don't steal this money which we sourced for one of my friends pass away due to covid.
My recommendation to every on that, don't use Western Union for any major fund transfers, this is a cheating business, need to be careful.

Western Union is full of fake and fraud
Western Union facilitates scammers to steal money. They are slow to respond and make delays at every point. I have had nothing but bad experiences with WU and its been 3month money not processed.they are eligible for star rates
Spoke with Eugene from compliance section regarding my transfer payment from Australia to Pakistan.She asked me all the security questions for long time that answered appropriately.She came back later and told me that she will be canceling my transfer.When I asked the reason why have she canceled my transfer,she couldn’t even tell me the reason.Also these staff that are from other countries that English is not their first language, they pretend to think they know English and they understand English but they don’t.Are these staff have their Engl...ish testing done.If so what are their scores. I do know that she didn’t understand what I said and she didn’t comprehend properly of the reasons that I gave her.When I asked the reason of cancellation,she couldn’t give me the answer. I am not happy with the service Eugene provided.
Pathetic Customer Service
WU sent numerous emails demanding payment for transfer of funds stating they had paid out twice on separate dates to my recipient without receiving my funds. This was despite the fact I had provided proof that my bank had deposited the funds in WU prior to transfer to my recipient.
Accordingly WU are either incompetent or dishonest. In any event I will never deal with the arrogant shambolic WU again.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
They hold my money for more than three days and i am still waiting for it, contacted customer care but they are of no use.Very rude and ignorant staff . I believe i have lost my money.
Will not recommend this service to anyone.
First experience with Western union. Signed up for an account. Then I made an 2 online transfers on Monday.
Today is Friday I have in total contacted them 5 times. Just 5 hours ago they said it’s ready to collect which was second time I was told this. Just now on the phone I’ve been told the transfer has been put on hold. That western union would like to see my bank statements and have attempted to email me??!! I’ve received multiple emails in regards to verifying my ID confirming my id has been verified. Customer service emails that I’ve be...en writing back and forth to but no one contacting me to say we require additional information. Usually I would think people using western union. The amount transferred isn’t a small amount. Instead of emailing pick up the damn phone and reach out to the customer. Not only been given the wrong information the last few days but delayed the process then also me and reciever running around trying to collect payment and now the transactions cancelled by the compliance team costing me my admin fee for the transfer. This is probably how they make money. Scam ppl to pay the admin fee.
No explanation.refused service.
Used Western union for years to send funds to Philippines for family..and would send to myself also when I visited twice a year..then without explanation a transaction was stopped to a recipient I had sent funds to on numerous occasions.. I called customer support and was told I could no longer transfer funds using Western Union to anywhere...no explanation was forthcoming I was just told that I would need to find another method to transfer funds.... been using an alternative transfer service for 2 years now with no problems at all.. I would never recommend Western Union.
I sent money in July 2021 and it hasn't reached my recipient November and i don't have any hope it will.
I sent money to India in July, it is yet to reach my recipient because the bank is holding the money. Western Union says, our job is to put the money into a bank account and if the bank holds money we can't do anything. How unfair and dodgy this money transfer is. When this company started they were charging $30 per transfer and have grown into a big business with our fees and now with 1200 employees and a big name, small money is nothing for them. I will never use their service again in my life.

Save your energy and don’t use Western Union .
Not reliable, low exchange rate. All the excuses explanations. I Sent the money 7 days ago and the transaction still hasn’t been delivered. Lodged a case and was told to wait 24-48 hours . Demanded to talk to supervisor twice and a supervisor called back after five hours. Again the usual explanation straight from the text book. Still no result.
Western Union don’t deliver . So save yourself and run away from them.

WU is the worst money service there is. Never use them again.
WU are terrible people and service, locked my account for no reason and without explanation and blocked me from opening an account with anyone else. Took me 2 months to sort it out by having to send personal information and pictures to prove I knew my wife and wasn't being conned. I will never use them again. Rude customer service and no explanation for locking my account, complaints totally ignored. Beware of these fools.

Is there legal recourse in Australia for refusing to provide a service without a specific reason?
I dont know about the legal side but I know that a service can be refused by the provider without any reason, meaning you need to seek alternate options. Saying that, I dont believe any business wants to turnaround their customers by doing that
Thanks. I’ve tried different Government Authorities but they don’t seem to have to want much of a say in how WU operates.
WhyWestern Union block me in Belgium branch.

Use XE money transfer or another service, you have read the reviews. so why would you even think about using these PARASITES? They do not deserve your business.
