AWFUL customer service!!!!! (would give 0 stars if I could)
I cannot condemn Western Union (WU) enough for their AWFUL customer service.
I've just attempted to send a much larger amount of money than usual to the Philippines to pay for my son's university fees. WU refused to process the transaction and directed me to call them on a number given in their e-mail ("because we need more information..." bla bla). That number was not even in service (wth?), so I had to look up their Customer Service number and ring them on that.
The nasty little cow on the other end absolutely refused to help resolve the si...tuation for no other reason I could not talk to her directly because I am deaf, even with my mother helping listen & relay her questions to me. Instead this completely unhelpful, unsympathetic creature transferred us to someone higher up their chain of command and this Jobsworthy office drone was also equally stubborn about it; instead directing me to my nearest WU agent so they could sight me in person before contacting Head Office. I've just been all the way to a not-so-local WU agent for no satisfaction because the extremely unhelpful Chinese guy & his po-faced wife running the newsagent/WU agency would not help me. Apparently he had no idea what to do - let's call it sheer laziness, shall we? Now I have to wait 24 hours to receive my money back from them and trying again but in much smaller amounts. I'm also going to look for another remittance company. Western Union can go **** themselves.

I sent money to my brother on 12.01.2022. On 14th I called Western union as the money is not received by the receiver then. I asked them to cancel this transaction as I will use another operator but they refuse to cancel and asked another 72 hrs to solve this issue. After talking for 30 minutes they cancelled my transaction. Today is 19th and still didn't get my back nor the rereviver received the money. They sent me an email asking they may not retuned the money because money is transferred to receiver operator and I need to call those oversea...s operator !!! How would I know Western union really sent this money to the receivers operator!!?? I feel like I am stuck in a scam!!! I was using other operator and never had this problem. Will never use WU again

Don't use this platform please! They cancelled my transfer and money hasn't been on my account yet. Well apparently they said that my transfer has been blocked by my transferring bank overseas! I dont believe you WU! You just cancelled my transfer because I have done too many transfer this month!!!!!???? Well what would you do if you have family overseas and sick of covid????? Now my Mum badly needed money, so I sent money 3 hours ago and I received a message it wasn't sent because of a technical error. I called customer care they said that the...money will be back on my account in 7 days! That's unbelievable!! My money was stucked with this freakin WU people!!! I will never ever use western union ever again!!!!!I hope you go bankrupt and shut down!!!!!!!!!
THEY CANNOT EXPLAIN WHY
I transferred 2000k and it is sitting in limbo waiting to be sent to the receivers bank. Well after 6 days now still waiting to be processed. Have spent more than 3 hours trying to find out why but have been told I have to wait 72 hours for an answer. Even after day 3 I must wait 72 hours!!! No offer of any refund or solution. Please do not use Western Union. You will lose your money and have no real possibility of getting it back
Western Union Scams own people in Emergency
Having sent monies to desperate friends in Philippines ($290). it was blocked by western union. I have sent to this receiver multiple times in last 4 years without problem. Money did not arrive After 24 hours I phoned technical support, was told I needed to prove I held account money came from? Did this reluctantly to ID@westernunion.com (who likes revealing banking details. 24 hours later still no money. Phoned again, was told they do not have staff to check, maybe another 2 days! keep in mind people are without food, drinking dirty water after the cyclone! We apologise sir. what? try apologising to the people who are hungry and sick because of you stupid bureaucracy ! NOT a trustworthy company any more..use Remitly or anyone !
Sent 2 transfers from Australia to the Uk successfully, no problems. Third time my card was declined. Checked with my bank no problem at their end. WU wanted me to use POLI which I did not want to use. I rang WU and they said use another card. I did, and this was declined with no reason. Rang them again and no reasonable answer given. Will not be using WU again and do not recommend.
It's official: Western Union does not work
After weeks of trying and speaking directly to WU, their service continues to fail irrevocably. Deleted my account after I managed to send money overseas for only $10 via Commbank. Goodbye WU. Hope you survive till 2022.
The first few years of transactions are good/ok.
However, I must be categorized now as a money launderer or crook or something as WU now block me. Are they really in business to provide a service???? What a weird organisation. Blocking customers for a 'security reason' .... but they wont explian why! What? WTH?
Goodbye WU. There are transfer services that dont mess people around.

Needed urgently to send mum money & on the phone many times they blamed my bank but my bank never had any communication from them
5 days later still hopeless so I canceled the transfer found another company heaps cheaper too
Within 15 minutes signed up transferred to money instantly mums happy
Unreliable service - don't use for emergency
WU is fine for the first few transactions, but eventually they will hold your account, even if your transactions are fully legitimate and you have great ID. Don't use WU for any emergency situation as they often hold up transactions for "review" and it can take days to release. Regard WU as an unreliable service that could fail at any time. Seek alternatives. My experience is based on sending money overseas to family members on a regular basis.

I have been using Western Union for years, I live in Australia and my Wife's family live in the Philippines, I had use Western Union to transfer money at different times, even to Buy land on a monthly basis a couple of years back, recently we built a small house on the land and used Western Union to pass on the funds for this, we had recently decided to upgrade the toilet and shower are, install a new water pump and put an extended living area on,, all was going well and then out of the blue western union put a hold on one of my small transfers..., around $500 to continue the project.. so I called them,, well they asked hundreds of questions , and basically saying they didn't believe me,,, after all my loyal years to Western Union, the fees I have paid , and this is the way i am treated,, now I need to wait 5 days to get my money Back,, Western Union,, you are not worth considering using again. there are so many other money transfer options on the market now,, I hope you go broke and no one uses your platform.. so people,, take a look at other platforms before considering using this ungrateful company..
Run away fast
This is a longish read, but it might give some idea of what it can be like to deal with Western Union.
I had to pay a large international USD invoice. I did a test transfer of $100, which the recipient received that Friday. So I went back on Monday to transfer the remaining large amount, which the recipient had to get by the following Friday.
Oops: no can do. Apparently there’s an AU$7,500 (less than US$5,000) limit per transfer. So I’d have to do multiple transfers. Simple, right?
Wrong. I started off with two transfers of AU$7,500. Both we...re accepted, the agent took the money from my [large national bank] debit card, and gave me MTCN numbers. Then I tried a third, which their system rejected. Ok, I’ll try again tomorrow. But 20 minutes later, I got an SMS from Western Union to say that both the accepted transfers were on hold, and to ring their customer support number - which the message didn’t provide.
WU is fraud
Its been 10 f**kng days i havn't got my money. Pathetic service i have ever seen in my life. They are absolutely scammers, never gonna trust them again in life.
After using the service regularly for several years, suddenly had a transaction cancelled.
Was asked personal questions about my relationship to money receiver with no explanation of the laws/rules/requirements as to the reason for such personal questions.
Was spoken to very rudely twice.
Was provided false information several times.
Was told to contact my bank who gave me the opposite information to what they had told me.
Was told to process a 2nd transaction that was also cancelled with no explanation.

They kept my fund transfer on hold after providing a source of funds
I have transferred one of the fund pooling money to the receiver and provided all required docs. but their account verification team keeps on asking multiple times for the same docs and delaying fund transfer from the last 10days. I hope they don't steal this money which we sourced for one of my friends pass away due to covid.
My recommendation to every on that, don't use Western Union for any major fund transfers, this is a cheating business, need to be careful.

What's wrong with online service ? can not send money online.
I dont want pay $10 fee to Post office.
I only tried the online service once or twice and couldnt make it work.
A bank transfer costs $30, takes numerous banks to complete the transfer.... groan. it takes about 5 days.,
So $10 (depends on destination and amount!) for an amount over $100 at Western Union at the post office is good value.
Same. Have not been able to send money online via western union. It cost upward of $100 to send money via post office compared to just over $10 via Western union online.
Is there legal recourse in Australia for refusing to provide a service without a specific reason?
I dont know about the legal side but I know that a service can be refused by the provider without any reason, meaning you need to seek alternate options. Saying that, I dont believe any business wants to turnaround their customers by doing that
Thanks. I’ve tried different Government Authorities but they don’t seem to have to want much of a say in how WU operates.
