Hi,
We bought this Westinghouse 501L fridge WBR5004SB (stainless) 2 years ago (after the bushfires).
So far we are very happy with cooling performance. Actually - as always on my fridges and freezers - I added a digital thermometer outside (with its sensor at the end of a long wire inside: Sometimes I have it running on the highest level (5) and this gives me 2°C, sometimes on level 4, which gives me about 4-5°C.
And it definitely looks good (stainless steel).
Good also, that I never have to defrost.
I deducted one star, because the bottom ...
Read moreplastic tray really should have been designed to slide heaps easier. Obviously, the purpose of the tray is to put stuff in there, and as our fridge is always very full, so is the bottom tray, i.e. it is heavy. It would be impossible to open this full tray with one hand only. The tray would be guaranteed to break. Thus, I always have to go down onto my knees and carefully open that tray with both hands. That is a clear design-failure. Bearing-wheels on the bottom of the fridge would be the solution.Purchased in January 2020 at Harvey Norman Retail Stores - Electronics.

Poorly made door for the old model and it seems the new one
Westinghouse seems to have incredibly poor construction in the doors which creates failures. My 2 year old daughter opened the fridge and the door fell right off. The bottom mount had been eaten away with the cheap plastic rubbing on the metal and the styrofoam it sits in without any real bracing gave way, dropping the door down and out. Luckily the door fell towards my wife and she caught it, so nobody was seriously hurt except some cuts and bruises.
To add insult to this, they don't make their parts available for the lifetime of their pro...
Read moreducts. They offered us a replacement fridge of the new model for a discount of around 25% off what you can buy it for (about 45% off RRP, but nobody pays that). However, it is a pigeon pair and means we would have a different fridge and freezer, unless we buy a replacement freezer and sell the old one ourselves. In considering what to do, I came here and reading other reviews, it seems the door issues have not been fixed in the new models, so I am not sure that getting this model is the right decision. A frustrating experience all around.- 2 reviews
We bought teh fridge in December 2017. Cooling is acceptable but the internal casing started to crack below vegetable crisper(bottom of fridge) and sides (see photo). We hope cracks don't open up in coming years.
Purchased pigeon pair Westinghouse upright fridge/freezer less than 3 years ago. Have had no problems with the freezer, but have issues with the fridge turning itself off earlier this year, and now it not cooling properly. Had technician out who has said the problem is a gas leak. Apparently common in older fridges but very unusual in a fridge this age. Only has a two year warranty so out of pocket for a new fridge now. Would not recommend.

Ordered from Appliances Online and the fridge come and it had two knuckle dents in the front of the door that could be seen in shining light. I just thought it was a one off or damaged in warehouse and asked for a replacement. The second fridge came in its box and it had even more knuckle dents visible in the light. Unbelievable. It’s Covid and Appliances Online blamed it on quality control in the Warehouse but I really would like tot know if it was Appliance Online buying seconds or it is Westinghouse!!!!! Have contacted Westinghouse with no response of course. Not paying $1900 for a fridge with visible dents.
Purchased in September 2020 at Appliance World Online for $1,900.
I have contacted Customer Care and you have not responded nor rang me. I will send another email today and see how long it takes to ring me.
Same door issues as others - don't buy unless you enjoy frustration
See other reviews. bought this fridge Xmas 2016 and I have similar issues - is this a manufacturing flaw? Once the door is shut, make a coffee or feed the cat, because you need to wait far too long before you can open it again. I've owned many fridges and have never had a problem like it on any previous fridge, nor has anyone I know. The door also now sags and scrapes when it is more than say 50% full, particularly if you have milk or heavy items on the bottom shelf of the door. The other reviewer's comment about scraping your floor is also correct. If you try and open the door before the fridge is ready to let you, the whole fridge moves and could damage your floor. I expected much better from a Westinghouse product.
Purchased in December 2016 at The Good Guys.

This is the worst fridge I’ve ever owned. I’m kicking myself that I’ve left it this long to write a review. Fridge was purchased 2 years ago literally and from the start it has been awful. You literally can not open it once it has been opened already for ages after. It gets dragged along the floor in any attempt to get it open. The door has dropped down also about 6-8 months ago so you have to push it up with your foot so it closes properly. And from the start bits have fallen off or broken off the veg drawer at the bottom. The front of the dra...

So disappointed and when I called about it I was brushed off and told to call the local repairer. Costing me more money. Don’t buy this fridge.Hi Carlie Reeves,

Very good fridge. Bought the matching freezer at the same time. Had to put the door handles on went delivered which was easy for the freezer but the fridge was a different story. The screww holes are full of insulation stuff that made it hard to get the screws in. The end result was a service call to fix the door handle.... The westinghouse service agent fixed the door handle but a bit of a rough job i.e. made modifications tonthe door as he didn't have the right size screws and put a minor scratch in the door. So no faith in their service agents, but the fridge works and works well. The vegetable crisper doesn't open or close easily. Hence the 4 stars.

My 20-year old fridge went on the blink, with frozen fruit, vegetables and smallgoods a common occurrence. Now with this new fridge, we've only had a couple of minor freezes of fruit - and that's only been when they're actually touching the back of the fridge - so we make sure the melons never touch the back/side of the fridge! Apples and citrus fruits seem fine touching the sides of the fridge without freezing, I guess melons are a bit more temperamental.
Now we have cold jars in the fridge door, too - I like! The temperature control is GOOD ...

I don't think there's much you can do. This fridge does what it is supposed to do - keep things cold! It's just not as quiet as I would like it to be, and the veggie drawer is designed a certain way. ...

Read moreier to open and close now, ha ha!! Maybe Westinghouse 'overdesigned' the veggie drawer... I also have to say, in rather warm/hot Summer weather, the fridge does tend to freeze things a bit too much. Every week there's another frozen nectarine or something. We've been trying to keep fruit away from the inside edges of the fridge, but it's a little difficult after a big shop! I'm not sure this fridge does quite so well when it's too full. I'm wondering how big a fridge I'll need next, once my kids are teenagers and eat even more!!Find out how Westinghouse Upright WRB Series compares to other Upright Fridges / Refrigerators

I purchased this fridge nearly 12 months ago and while I love the design and space the fact that the fridge won't open again straight away is a total nightmare. In our hot Qld climate, we have to wait up to 20 - 30 minutes on some days to be able to re-open the fridge. Needless to say this is very inconvenient and impractical.
What can be done to fix the flaw in the design? We are at our wits end!
This fridge is a nightmare. At first I thought that the door wouldn't open because it was new and would take some time (as it did with other fridges).
After a couple of months, I thought that it had gone on for a bit long.
Just recently I did some research and found that if the temperature difference is substantial, then it can take longer to open the door. Fair enough. So I gave it a few more months to perform.
Now, much later and being at my wits end, I have researched this fridge and found that other customers have the exact same proble...

Looks nice, plenty of space, but try and open the door more than once...no chance.
Just spent an enjoyable 40mins on the phone to Westinghouse describing the massive inconvenience of having a fridge with seals that are so strong, that after opening it once and closing the door, the fridge won't open again for 45-60secs.
In a nutshell, if you take something out of the fridge, you can't put it back in. Such a headache.

This fridge works so well in our kitchen ! So quite and keeps all the food nice and cool. Has a great humidity drawer in the bottom but can get a bit sticky to open sometimes. Love that it has a matching freezer and we will be purchasing that too !

We bought this model mainly for its good looks, but have found that it has a few flaws.
On the plus side, the interior of the fridge is thoughtfully designed with adjustable "Spill Safe" glass shelves, which mean that any spillage is contained.
On the negative side, the door seal is incredibly tight, which means that you need to wait a minute or so after closing it before re-opening it. Another flaw is the limited size of the crisper drawer; I would prefer an option to upgrade to two crisper drawers the same size as the existing one. Also, while cleaning the crisper drawer, I've noticed a groove between the sides of the drawer and the transparent front panel which makes it difficult to clean.

Had to call in an electrician this morning after our 22 yr old 2-door American assembled Whirlpool fridge almost caused a fire. We had noticed a smokey kitchen and an overpowering chemical burning smell. The safety switch in the mains was triggered and our electrician advised us that the old models have an unhealthy design with a board covering the rear at the base which limited ventilation. Dust had accumulated and clogged up the blades of the fan which could not turn but electricity cont to flow, causing heat and what we smelled. Had the ...
Read moresafety switch not triggered, a fire would have erupted. My stubborn husband ignored my brother-in-laws' advice and mine to get rid of this old model on the basis of poor energy efficiency as he wanted to retain this as the "stinky" fridge which could store food with odours that did not appeal to him, like seafood. Well, it almost cost us our house. Off we went to Harvey Norman, wary that Westinghouse has closed its manufacturing doors in NSW to move to Thailand. We wanted a single door fridge only unit so that left limited choices. So despite my review on WRM4300WB last yr, we took the plunge on WRB5004SA with a 2 yr warranty as the other models appear to have equally flimsy hinged joints. Fingers crossed, esp with a made in Thailand product and hopefully I do not have to make another post to amend the star rating for at least 5 yrsI emailed U on 16/3/17 at customercare@electrolux.com.au but did not receive any reply or tel call. I contacted Harvey Norman where superstaff [name removed] tried her best to resolve my disappointment with their Westinghouse rep - I have been told that I cannot refund the fridge as it is out of the packaging - nor will they give me a new unit - I can only keep my fingers crossed that there are no other construction defects in other parts of the fridge not visible to me. I have been advised to use the fridge and wait for up to 6 wks to get a new door The design of the fridge door of this model is different - 5 of the 6 screws are jutting out, only one was inserted correctly. I have never used separate fridge and freezer before and am considering buying this one-just want to know if overall people are ok-concerned with doors beeping and internal cracks noted by some users
I would avoid this one. The Fisher and Paykel is more expensive, but seems to be much better built.
My fridge is just 3 years old and it appears to be running both compressor and internal fan but it is not getting cold the thermal overload has been replaced please advise Colin
Please can you advise whether the dimensions include all protruding pieces like handles, chiller piece behind fridge etc? My current Westinghouse said the width was 626mm but is actually nearer 660mm. I have a confined space and need to ensure the measurements are accurate.
Also how much space should I allow around this model for air circulation? My current one says 3cm each side, 5cm behind fridge and 9cm above fridge.
Thanks
Jacqui
