Quiet and reliable - other reviews are nothing like our experience.
We have had this generator on our yacht which we live on for 18 months now.
Used to top up batteries through an Enerdrive 60 amp charger and resistive loads such as hairdryer, coffee machine and a 10 litre hot water system.
We have had two events where grit had stuck the carb needle but that's not a generator problem. Easy to access to fix.
Unit sits outside on the deck and under a seat so exposed to salt air.
We bought a second one as back up just in case..
Runs one to four hours every day.
When choosing a generator make sure the maximum load is well understood although these generators can be linked to almost double output.
Purchased in October 2018 at Anaconda Physical store for $1,600.00.
Quiet, hard to start and a little underpowered
There's a big difference between labelling a generator something 2000 and it really being a 1.6kVa generator. Its Max output is rated at 2kVa, but 1.6 is its rated capacity. What it will do is run a water pump in a black out ,some power tools and charge batteries. What it won't do is boil a fast boil kettle or run high demand tools eg a yard blower vac. Its very difficult to start, even after returning it to the dealer to check out, it usually takes several very vigorous pulls of the recoil starter to get going (I've found that cursing helps!).... The critical reason I wanted when I purchased this generator was to be easy to start both for my wife and me. I'm getting on in years but now I'm contemplating buying a cheap Chinese key start generator, to save my shoulder if it doesn't get any easier. Looks stylish, economy mode, handy DC battery charging facility A real Bast**d recoile start, one Ac outlet & have to take the cover off to check the oil etc
Questions & Answers
Would it do a 2.5 Kw VR Machine ?
I would never buy another YAMAHA anything my EF2000is started leaking oil after about 200 HRS. sent email to yamaha never ever had a response. I recommend B&S nearly half the price and more reliable
Hi Brian C, I doubt it very much. like I said it struggled with a toaster and nespresso machine. I reckon it'd be lucky to push out it stated 2kW.
I purchased a 2kva Yamaha generator last year, my son told me not to buy a Yamaha, the Honda are better. Now to my embarrassment I tried to have the Yamaha run my air-conditioner or fridge in the caravan we have just purchased and it will not run it, My son brought over his Honda 2kva and it ran with no problem. Can you please assist with how this problem can be rectified and why is there such a difference?
Sorry Bert, I can't answer specifically about your issue but I can tell you that I was disappointed it had trouble running a toaster and/or jug and my nespresso at the same time. It seemed way under powered for its stated capacity. I solved my problem and almost gave it away and bought a Chinese made remote start 8KVa generator (large & noisy) for a little more than the Yamaha and it ran the whole house! Like I said, I reckon it runs at about 1.6 and not 2Kva. For your fridge and air cond., it may run one or the other but probably not both.
