Utterly seismic bass!!

Cant understand how some people are saying this underdelivers. In my system it delivers huge levels of extremely low bass, and I can quite believe 16hz. I had this set up along a wall 2 feet away from roof to floor curtains at a patio door, when explosions happened in movies the shock waves from the bassport would blast the curtains to 45deg and flap them in the air!!

Date PurchasedMar 2006

best subwoofer i have heard for the price if you bargain with the salesman enough you can pick one up for 1200 australian dollars

Yes I still have 2x 1500 subwoofer in back of the room and after 15 years still going strong and cranking them hard love them

The 1500 is typical of Yamaha thinking. Excessively complicated, old fashioned and over priced. As well as there being cheaper and better specified options on the market, the 1500 also fails in that it over promises and under delivers.
A prime example of this is the claimed 16Hz lower frequency response limit. But if you read the spec sheet you will find that the sub delivers the 16Hz at -10dB, whereas the industry standard is -3dB. Basically, you won't even hear it.
Another example is the power specification. 1000kW is fine if you can get it, but Yamaha is hoping that you won't notice the 10% distortion you're getting along with it.
Overall verdict: over-rated.
Good build quality.
Decent low frequency extension.
Reasonably compact size makes it easier to get spousal approval.
Magnetically shielded driver - although this is not longer a problem with flat screen televisions.
Automatic power on feature makes it easy to set and forget.
Not a true subwoofer. Cannot generate very low frequencies at decent volume levels.
Expensive - RRP of over $2000.
External finish a bit spartan. Plain black and silver may not fit with your current decor, and no wood veneer option available.
