I have received a letter from a legal firm claiming to represent me on behalf of Youi in an accident that happened over 7 months ago. The other driver was at fault and we have two witnesses that he ran a red light. The claim was paid out over 6 months ago. The letter looks suspicious- they want me to make an appointment to see one their solicitors. I lost about $6000 on the car as it was written off- I am not prepared to lose a days wages to travel to the city. Has anyone ever had this happen??

Frank
Frank

Hi Jen, check out the legal firm's reputation, get them to Skype with you and do record the meeting. Take a second opinion from another legal firm. Be cautious about fees under all circumstances. Do not commit to any upfront fees or future fees. Find out what will be the final potential outcome and how it would work for you. All the best and good luck.

Thanks for reaching out Jenni. I’d like to look into this further, please forward any policy, claim details to robynf@youi.com & I’ll be in touch to put your mind at ease. Look forward to hearing from you. Robyn.

can you choose your own repairers?

Youi
Youi   DM

Great question Nigel. We have a selected network of repairers on board who we have complete faith in, still we have an optional cover where you can choose your own. If you have any further queries I’d be happy to chat, email robynf@youi.com. Look forward to speaking with you, Robyn :)

I would to know I have a 98 Mitsubishi lancer Coupe and was going get Youi insurance till I was told right or wrong in an accident I would have to come up with $500 and mind you have only ever had one accident not my fault so I wonder how does that work $500

Youi
Youi   DM

Great question rae65. I’m assuming the $500 is the “excess”. It’s not always exactly $500, it can be higher & something you agree on before starting the policy. To claim, an excess is payable but it can waived, if for example; another party is clearly at-fault & we have enough information to enable an attempt to recover costs. This is all in our PDS & I can discuss in more detail if you wish? My direct line is 0731563531 – Jeremy

We have claimed with youi for
Windscreen damage (new windscreen), car vs kangaroo (lots of damage), car getting vandalised, and they have ALWAYS been beautiful! They always ensure that we are safe, and walk through the claims process super quick, they even are happy to use our preferred repairer! So much easier than other insurers I have previously used.

Hi Sharen, the vehicle was assessed as a repairable total loss. For the damage details you would need to seek an independent report from a Smash repairer. I can see you’ve been in touch with our Team since initially asking your question, still if you have any further queries I can be reached on robynf@youi.com. Robyn.

I'm just reading an article about contaminated fuel (https://www.choice.com.au/transport/cars/maintenance/articles/contaminated-fuel-costing-drivers-thousands-of-dollars-in-repairs?fbclid=IwAR0JZcWjFCHR51athwAMgjj8-A8YIvsee1y7qkto00atatlGRnBW_qaVi1M), as far as I can see the PDS and other comprehensive insurance documents I received don't mention it at all. Are we covered, and if so under what conditions?

Boris Yasminsky
Boris Yasminsky

Youi has an exclusion in the policy which states “by the use, or accidental addition by any person, of incorrect lubricants, fuel, oil or other fluids, which are not recommended or specified by the manufacturer".

Cheers

dbareis
dbareis

That doesn't answer the question I asked...

I get diesel from the pump, it contains metal or more likely water (contaminated fuel), the engine dies, probably permanently. Some insurance companies cover it, does yours?

Boris Yasminsky
Boris Yasminsky

I don't work for Youi and would never insure with them again. From my experience with Youi, they will always find a way not to pay out a claim, hence the Royal Commission Inquiry in to Youi for leaving customers high and dry after making claims. Cheers.

Allan
Allan

You are correct the policy doesn’t cover contaminated fuel the responsibilities are that of the seller of the fuel sadly even from

The beginning it was not an option as it occurred one time for me in remote NT I testify that my vehicle was taken to a safer place this I had to fight the owner of he petrol

Station of the contamination I also reported it to the governing body of fuel

Watch they supported me and I got my car repaired in 14 days

Youi
Youi   DM

Hi Dbareis, there is an exclusion for the presence of chemical or biological pollutants or materials which could apply. I can’t give you a yes or no answer as there can be many variables, still we review all claims on their own merits. Cheers Josh

dbareis
dbareis

Thanks, I'm going to read that as a "NO" as the question is not as complicated as you make out. If I put petrol into my diesel car that is my issue (and I have added a device to prevent that from occuring), if I put diesel in my car and it contains something else, I didn't cause that amd I should be covered. If you are that paranoid make the condition that the car have been fitted with a misfuel device like I've fitted.

Hi, im just wondering if I am still covered in an accident if I am in an accident but have a suspended license? Thanks

Youi
Youi   DM

I hope everything is alright Jack! There is an exclusion in our current PDS & here is the link: external link  - See page 19 – “We will not pay for any loss, damage or legal liability caused directly or indirectly:", "14. when the car is being driven by a person whose driver’s licence is suspended, cancelled or has special terms applied to it unless you have told us about it, we have accepted this and it is shown on your policy schedule;”

Please also consider that each claim is based on its own merits. Would you like me to call you to discuss this further? Alternatively, my direct line is 0731563531 & I’d be happy to answer any questions - Jeremy

Boris Yasminsky
Boris Yasminsky

Unlikely any insurer would cover you these days, although once upon a time, there was an exclusion in medical emergencies. Don't forget, your CTP would probably exclude cover as well.

Is it true with youi you have to have a bac of 0.00% to be covered in a car accident? And not the legal requirement of 0.05% bac?

Youi

Great question Bartschy! Providing you are under the legal limit & the alcohol is not directly related to the incident, you’re covered. I hope this helps Bartschy :O) Cam

Does Youi cover for non-accidental repairs like the ones that come up during a scheduled maintenance?

Youi
Youi   DM

Hi Sudeep. Your normal mechanical repairs are not covered by the policy. The general exclusion from the PDS reads: We will not pay for loss, damage or legal liability caused directly or indirectly by: mechanical, electrical or electronic (including computer software) breakdown or failure; Thanks for asking a great question -Jeremy

Bazza
Bazza

Hi Jeremy. As I read your reply to Sudeep, if my car computer software (ECU I think) malfunctioned an prevented my brakes working (EBC I think) and there was damage or legal liability as a consequence, the exclusion in your PDS would be triggered thereby making me totally liable for any loss. There are instances online and in forums where computer malfunctions have occurred causing damage because of brakes not working as they should and motors stalling in high speed traffic lanes. I will now have a close look at the cover offered by the insurer I renew with but in light of what you have raised, I may take 3rd party cover only. Once a Comprehensive Policy covered all damage and liability, that must now be a thing of the past.

What if I want to take my vehicle and camper trailer on a nongazetted road with your roadside assist that comes with my insurance?

Boris Yasminsky
Boris Yasminsky

Unhappy - From my experience with Youi and their PDS, Youi's insurance will not cover you on non-gazetted roads, privately owned roads and if your vehicle is not designed by the manufacturer to be used as a 4WD or in 4WD parks etc. As for Youi's roadside service, it's absolutely hopeless in city areas least of all, out in the scrub where they only access limited areas with 2WD vehicles. I suggest you try Club 4x4 Insurance. Cheers

Youi
Youi   DM

We do have a couple of exclusions that may apply in this instance. Such as if the breakdown occurs outside a service area, or where we are not able to access the car due to it being in a restricted area, including but not limited to airports, security controlled zones and community events, we would not be able to assist. We will recover the car if it is bogged provided that there is reasonable and safe access for a conventional two-wheel drive recovery vehicle and no other specialist equipment is needed. Hope this helps, if you need anymore info let me know :) Cheers Josh
