Seeing [name removed] at Rochedale display is one of the best building consultants I've ever met.

Recommended by a friend to Metricon for his work in Rochedale, a young man renowned in the Chinese community. Unfortunately, most of my neighbors build with him not very understanding of this website's working mechanism.

[name removed] is a conscientious and knowledgeable adviser. Not only in architecture, but also in the details of loans, horticultural design, investment ideas and even life will help you consider.

Unlike other salespeople walk away after we paid a deposit, he was responsible for the end. He even provided advice and suggestions in time for many of the things that were not his work during the construction process.

On behalf of the vast majority of Chinese in south area of Brisbane, I thank the young man who have such taking care of us. (sorry for my grammar, most use google translate. this web not allow put in Chinese).

All's good but....

Overall we are happy with the workmanship and we are very excited to be moving in soon. Our only unhappy thing with the house design is the unsightly gutter pipe that run down the front wall pillar. To be fair to Metricon it was in the drawing and we didn't see it.
[name removed] - the site manager is great. He provides weekly update on the progress and his work is ahead of schedule.

On the sales front, we were and still are very happy with [name removed], the sales consultant. He was very patient with all our questions and suggested various options. It made our decision making much easier.

On post sales, after Metricon secured our sales order, it took them 6 months to set up an appointment to do colour selection with Studio M. From there, we were given 3 weeks to sign the building contract. We felt we were not given sufficient time to think through what we wanted. This is our first home here in Melbourne and we don't have any experience in building a house. Metricon was not too accommodating in this area.
On customer service, we are most unhappy with the first Customer Support Co-ordinator assigned to us. She made taunting remarks and kept insisting that we sign the contract while we were still considering some options available to us. We felt this was very unprofessional. Later on, our contract management was passed on to a few Customer Support Co-ordinators. The inconvenience to us was that we have to repeat our choice selection all over again.
However, we would like to express our appreciation to [name removed] who eventually managed our contract. She was great and her wonderful service helped to redeem some pride for Metricon. Many thanks [name removed]!!

Great service - 100% as promised

From day 1 the service provided by the Metricon team as a whole has been excellent. Our experience with Metricon could not have been any better from arrival at the displays and the help provided to finalise our requirements, our Studio M selection flowed smoothly and we got a great choice of items, our CRA kept us informed pre-site and the Site Manager engaged with us weekly to keep us up to date and arranged for us to tour the house when we wanted with him while under construction. Our Building Coordinator at the office has helped us with the bank and was always available when we called. What a great team Metricon!

The quality of the home in the end is excellent. We are glad we went with Metricon, everything in our home is considered - they have used well known, trusted and quality brand products which was important to us as many of the builders we looked at used unknown and unbranded products. We know that Metricon has a 25 year structural warranty and the brands Metricon use will be there if we have any issues later on down the track - something again that was very important to us.

Bad workmanship and mixed review customer service

Hi guys,

Please be very careful when selecting Metricon to build your house especially their lackluster customer service and build quality. They do not like to take responsibility for the defects that they have done.

The build quality is around 6/10 but there are quite a few issues that we have noticed when after we moved in.

1) We moved in on February 2017. We were given the 90 days maintenance service to fix things. The list were expired on May and they were supposed to come out after that to fix everything up. However, it's November now and still not everything have been rectified. E.g. Raised carpet, small holes on the ceiling, torn flyscreen, broken kitchen light and etc. All of these were happened prior to handover and they failed to pick this errors up. The building manager then told me to put those items in during our handover day so they could be fixed after 90 days. Since then, I have emailed over and over and over again to the support team which they said they will follow up but it is all obviously an empty promise.

2) Slab overflow (encroachment) - https://imgur.com/a/dBRri Here is a link to some photos to show you how bad the defect and overflow. So, my garage is built on boundary and it looks all good at the beginning. However, when my right hand neighbour has decided to build by excavating to get a retaining wall going, they came to me to notify me about the slab overflow. Apparently, that is considered as an encroachment into my neighbour's land even in the legal term (be it underground footing or not). Therefore, I went and talk to a Metricon building manager, [name removed] who is responsible for my case. What do you know! [Name Removed] called me back and told me that is a common practice and it's the neighbour's reponsibility to fix my encroachment? I was like what?!! I don't think it is my neighbour or my responsibility to rectify this since I have paid Metricon to do a good job in accordance to the contract. A building inspector that I have spoken to was saying the same thing as well and he is prepared to write a report about this. Even the building compliance officer at my local district council has called me up to ask Metricon to fix this encroachment. From what I have gathered on concrete slab pouring on boundary, the concrete specialist should have put a metal sheet prior to slab pouring in the first place to prevent this encroachment. Metricon flat out refused to rectify this issue which is a very big fail on their behalf. I am at loss of word.

Initially, I chose to select Metricon to build my home because of all the research and positive feedbacks that i have gotten and gathered. Metricon have even scored 4.3/5 from this site based on thousands of reviews. That equals to 86% out of 100% which is a high distinction in any standard. TWO thing that stick up the most in those positive feedbacks are the building quality AND outstanding customer service even after the built. I really do hope Metricon can live up to that rating and do what is right.

I really just want to live in a quality built house which Metricon has aspired to, apparently.

Couldn't be happier

From the initial sales phase to handover, Metricon delivered. Our site supervisor [name removed] was meticulous in ensuring that our new home was going to be one we loved. We were away for 6 weeks during construction and he kept us in the loop the whole time by sending progress texts/pictures and calls. The quality he produced and his attention to detail assured me that I would be receiving the best. He made us feel he was building his home which was reassuring. There was no question too difficult. He always returned phone calls and was very easy to converse with, his relaxed but professional manner made the whole build process with Metricon very enjoyable. We have been in the home 2 weeks now and we absolutely love it. Would we build with Metricon again? Most definitely! Thanks Metricon and a fabulously site supervisor [name removed] for making our dream home a reality.

Pathetic and Terrible service!!!

We'd recently considered Metricon as our first home builder (Bentleigh 34) in Tarneit. Everything was finalised including floor plan, cost, etc. and we'd been waiting for an official Studio M visit and we'd received an letter from Metricon as well that we'd hear from Metricon very soon in terms of someone appointed in our case and we'd be invited shortly for the colour selection, etc. It has been more than 2 months since we'd finalised everything including quote, etc. And, we'd to call / SMS so many times in the recent couple of weeks but, we were not able to get the feedback. Today morning, when I'd called up Sales consultant then he said, he has received some feedback from the technical team and he will revert soon. He called up as well after 10 minutes and guess what he said??? He said, we can't go for Bentleigh 34 as our house will be North East face and we cant built 34 m2 house because of the direction. This is very very very frustrating and then he is now suggesting us to go for another recent promo scheme (no Bentleigh) but, CLAREMONT I guess. I'm yet to receive his email with the details but, this is really bad experience and now, he is asking us to pay more because of Metricon's fault (going to less squares / more) and paying more in terms of reducing few m2 and pay more due to that. I was going through the plan online while googling and it does not match our requirements.

Now, the thing is our land will be titled somewhere in early next year (January 2018 - February 2018) and we have long way to go in terms of getting feedback from him, studio visit, building contract, applying for bank loan, etc.

This is becoming nightmare for us. We thought that selection of builder for our first home as Metricon is the right choice but, we are highly disappointed because of this. I hope someone including Sales consultant would look into this matter very SERIOUSLY and provide feedback ASAP. It has been wastage of our time so far!!! Very bad experience. Please reply ASAP. Improving...

I haven't even started my build process yet but I am so disappointed and frustrated with Metricon's pre construction stage I felt compelled to start my review now. This was especially so after reading the last review about Metricon. There is virtually no communication between the various sections involved in pre construction resulting in variations not being past on. Changes are not reflected in the drawn plans - there are discrepancies between what is written in the variations and what is drawn. The variations are so hard to follow that it's impossible to know whether you've been double charged for things. The latest issue that happened only today is the last straw. There was a variation available that reflected the display home at Kellyville Homeworld. It included the side of the house being pushed out 650mm to make more space in the living, kitchen, pantry and laundry. It also included upgrades to each of these areas. We didn't necessarily want ALL of the upgrades so we asked for the extra room but not all of the upgrades. It worked out to be cheaper doing it that way, the variation was supplied and we signed the contract and proceeded. Well that was back in July. It's now only 12 days before the contract expires, the house is approved, loans finalised ready to go and we get a variation for over $7,000 because this original variation was not costed correctly - THE same variation I was using to determine options!! The package price is actually way cheaper and we would have received lots of upgrades with it! Attached with this variation was a lovely email indicating that I have to sign it in order to proceed. In order words, if you don't sign it, we won't move on. I've sent an email asking to speak to somebody higher up and will update the review with the result.

So my customer service officer and her supervisor have addressed my issues to the point that I am moving forward. I've added another star for them addressing this issue and hopefully as the build progresses I will add more. Watch this space.

Exceptional workmanship and professionalism

The decision to build a new home was scary. I had heard the horror stories about over spend and extras so I went in with my eyes wide open and some background research under my belt before visiting the show homes. After hours of show home visits I walked into Metricon at Burpengary East. [Name Removed] had exceptional knowledge of the product and a passion for the company. I took the books home, checked out the plans and the decision was made - Metricon Grandview 33. Since that moment the process of building a new home has been seamless and stress free. The entire team I have dealt with has been professional, kept me up to date on everything and when i walked into the finished home it was clear I had made the correct decision to use this company. The attention to detail is exceptional and absolutely nothing can be faulted - and I looked! Truly professional companies tend to do their jobs well - and Metricon did exactly that. My site manager, [name removed], was amazing.

Friendly, professional and determined to make every home he looks after "the best" and that is exactly what this team did. From signing the initial documents and changing the plans, enjoying two days with the talented selections team on the Gold Coast, to watching the frame go up and tiles put down to the handover with [name removed] and [name removed] a few weeks ago, they all made it a very easy and relaxed process and built me a beautiful home which I am proud of and can't wait to show off! Thanks [Name Removed] and the team - you really made this experience amazing and worth every minute! The initially discussed costs was exactly what I paid - no hidden extras and no scary unexpected amounts along the way - you guys got it right and I would highly recommend this company to any potential house builders looking for exceptional quality and personal care. Painful experience.

I will keep this review factual and objective so you can make decision if you are considering Metricon is a choice of builder for your new Home. Hopefully it can bring insight to you based on my experience with Metricon.

After my initial deposit on the house construction with the sales consultant. It took Metricon 4 weeks to assign support coordinator to get in touch with me.

One of the key decision i went with Metricon is that they advised & promised construction build completion time frame less than 5 months. It took them one year. Despite countless followups and emails/phones calls with the customer support coordinator. I was ignored many times by the weeks with literally no response and i had to escalate many times for some one to acknowledge that i am only reaching out to get an update on when the build will even start. I have already paid over 30K by that stage on deposit and the land was registered. Developer approval took many months and it was very costly and frustrating exercise as i am paying for rent and land and it was one of the main reasons i have chosen Metricon as they promised a quicker turn around time to build in comparison to their competitors.

# Be careful with the variation changes.

- Customer Support Coordinator failed to include the full price of tiles variations in the contract - worth 8K. My home loan was already approved and already making progress payments. At the time of settlement, Metricon invoiced me 8K extra for the tiles that wasn't factored in my loan because Metricon did not list the variation price correctly in the contract papers (including variations changes). This is the contract i have given the Bank for the house loan). However because i signed the variation and they were using that to force me to pay. I am all up for the doing the right thing but i couldn't simply go to the bank to re-do my loan as it meant i had to pay LVR. approx 18K. Even though they admitted they at fault but in short - "you have to pay this either way". It was dark times for me as i had no choice but to come up with this amount of money. I tried to take legal action to follow a dispute and legal advice was confident it's a win situation as they are accountable for invoices and billing etc but legal fees alone was more than 8K. I had to give in and pay. Horrible experience.

Another occurrence of this theme, they lost track of a theatre door variation i have requested. I was advised of this just before they starting the build. It was either cancel the door variation or keep it. Once again, because it wasn't factored in the contract price, the cost of the door had to come out of my pocket. Worth over 3K. Just unbelievable.

# Poor workmanship:

The workmanship and build quality is just plain poor. Don't take my word for it. I had 4 independent inspections done. 2 for plumbing inspection and 2 for Pre-Purchase Inspections. I will explain why this happened:

# Plumbing inspection:

The report showed defects that does not comply with Australian Standards – building Code and Law HB39 2015, The valley gutter required to be replaced due to acid damage, the flashing on the garage roof required to be replaced due to acid damage, The laps on the box gutter were incorrect.

The Construction Manager wasn't professional handling these defects and doesn't believe they warrant to be fixed. He was rude and I was pushed to pay the house settlement. It appeared to me he just wanted the house handed over and without actually looking into the report. I had no choice but to pay the settlement as there are other legal repercussions if I didn’t.

I have asked for Customer Care from Metricon to help but they just went to the same Construction Manager and feeding back the same push back attitude.

I have filed a complaint to the Victoria Building Authority (VBA) and they forced Metricon to address these damages. Even though it was a good outcome, it was horrible experience overall and it could have been avoided.

# Pre-Purchase Inspections:

- This is just some examples came from the report: Paint defects, plaster damage, Theatre door window panels were scratched. That door was purchased from Metricon for nearly 3K. Many other defects, Rain-head was hacked, literally cut through by a jigsaw or something in that manner to make the overflow fit as the Rain-head was under sized. Excessive gap between the bricks and aluminium window flashing that needs to be
rectified, roof space insulation bats not installed correctly...list goes on.

I had to bring independent inspection for the second time round and reports shows majority of defects were not addressed. It was stressful. I had to argue and present my case in many forms and fashion for defects to be addressed as it appears there is default behaviour of pushing back to address these items as it meant costs for Metricon to re-do and fix.

Moving into the home, I have reported approx. 20 defects. Few examples were:

- Water leakage in the kitcken and the garage
- Powerpoints were not working
- Hot water stopped working.
- The LAN cables didn’t work
- Heater failed 6 times (literally)
- Kitchen Tap got stuck in hot water
- Drainage issues
- External lights were not turning on
- Paint defects

List goes on..

The positive note, the Service & Warranty Site Manager was prompt to come onsite to help address these issues and managing these defects but overall quality work is poor and i expect alot more from a Leading Builder.

I am still recovering from massive $$$ debts due to costly errors caused on their part. I question the customer care value. I question their trust as they certainly broken that for me and i can't recommend Metricon to anyone.

It’s a risk to your investment to give it to Metricon. This organisation is disconnected from their customers and genuine care. I hope this review was useful if you are considering Metricon. Do your research before you commit with your choice of Builder.

Their workmanship very bad not qualify, I have a shower screen door when it open will hitting the toilet that is ridiculous. I can’t accept that and nobody can accept. I ask the site supervisor he said can’t fix for me, why? I spent 600k+ for that not a professional builder. I have no idea which team make that mistake didn’t concern the space.

Want a quality home built do not use Metricon, want a chook pen use Metricon

From the time we walked in with the sales person it was one set back after the other and we were fed rubbish. They take your money then you are left with the problems. Customer service and quality does not exist in this organisation. We have too many numerous problems to list but one major problem in the last three months is the extensive cracks in the house, in particular external. We paid $6,500 to have the house rendered and you can see all the bricks coming through as there is no render on the house. We leave messages for customer service and no one returns your calls. Finally, make a call to customer service and the person I had previously spoken to no longer works for the company. Supervisor came out on the 31 October and showed him numerous cracks, photos and he took numerous photos, on the following day we received a phone call from him telling us he spoke to his construction manager and said the cracks are normal. I wonder if the construction manager was me and I was him would he accept this response after the money we paid for services we didn't receive. I want to share this with everyone and would never recommend Metricon to anyone.

7th week of living in my beautiful home, thanks to my house and land package by Metricon in Belmond on Clyde. Having [name removed] as my building supervisor from frame till completion has been a real blessing. He almost always returns calls if not available, to give updates & answer any queries. Was very helpful to arrange access for measure and quote appointments for blinds & security doors, during the final phases of construction too. Despite a slight hitch in Occupancy Permit & supervisor having a knee injury around the same time, the build was prompt & completed within 3.5months. Despite his bad knee, [name removed] personally took responsibility and fixed the issues highlighted, even post settlement date. The chipped mailbox & gap below front porch following earlier plumbing work (which we noted after moving in) was rectified promptly too.

The experience from our initial meeting with the sales consultant through to customer support and to our site manager has been amazing. No request is too hard and all queries are taken on board and dealt with promptly and efficiently. Metricon have been great to deal with and we are very happy with the service they offer and quality of the build.

This was our first home and we are very happy with it. Great Staff in the office and very good site supervisor.
Started Construction 6 weeks after the land was registered. Our site supervisor always kept us up to date with weekly updates. Service & Warranty team were excellent .Great experience and i would build my next House with Metricon again.

The building of my home was overseen by [name removed], who was attentive and with his pleasant personality made the experience a good one. The quality and his attention to detail, and his willingness to answer questions made the build go smoothly. [name removed] ensured the house was how I expected it; for those considering building a Mirage, I am happy I chose this design, ( a four bedroom, double story) as it fit on my small block ( 256 sqm) .

This is our first home/first build so we were unsure what to expect but the process has been super easy and stress free. Our site supervisor has been a pleasure to deal with he always kept us up to date with weekly updates and any questions were always answered there and then in great detail. Our handover is in a week and a half which is well before our estimated time frame end for the build so we couldn't be happier. Would not hesitate to build with Metricon again.

Hi Metricon, we are building a Metricon Liberty in Sydney. We are two thirds of the way through the build and have identified significant structural defects in the house. Many elements do not comply with the tolerances in Australia standards and there are significant difference to the contract plans. The slab is not level, the walls and ceilings are not straight, the brickwork is sloppy, the waterproofing is defective, and the site drainage poses a significant risk of slab heave. After dismissive and unsatisfactory responses from Metricon's senior management in NSW over the past 2 months we have involved NSW Fair Trading and are awaiting their inspection. Has anyone else had a similar experience mid build? How did you resolve these problems? Do you have any suggestions to assist us and your senior management in NSW to rectify the defective workmanship? Peter

Hi Metricon, I refer to the earlier question I asked you about the '6 stage quality assurance process' in your marketing communications. Thank you for listing the 5 building stages. Can you please provide some details about how each building stage is thoroughly assessed to assure ultimate quality. What processes does Metricon conduct within the building stages to assure the quality? Also, what is the 6th stage that is mentioned in Metricon's brochure? (In your response you only mention 5 stages?) Can you please provide some details, or direct me to where I can find this specific information. Please help me to understand what this actually means when my home is being built. How is Metricon different to "other builders" regarding quality. Peter
