Reviewing the Michelin Primacy SUV + tyre 225/55R18 for our 2019 MY20 Subaru Forester 2.5i-S. Tyres purchased September 2022 from Jax Tyres & Auto Bowen Hills, QLD. Have travelled around 6,000kms on these tyres so far. Recently did a fairly decent drive from Ipswich QLD - Cairns FNQ return during Sep 2022 school holidays. Have to say that this is a very quiet and comfortable tyre on road. Please note that this is the second time I have had Michelin Primacy SUV tyres fitted on our vehicles, with the previous generation called Michelin Primacy ... SUV fitted to our previous vehicle - A 2009 Toyota RAV4 CV Auto AWD in 225/65R17 size tyres. This time around in the new and updated version of this tyre called the Michelin Primacy SUV + tyres and for us shod in 225/55R18 size for our 2019 MY20 Subaru Forester 2.5i-S stated above. The feeling I have now compared to the previous tyre is definitely an incremental improvement, but not one that I'd write home about. It's just a good daily drive tyre. Apologies for my dull opinion, but my daily drive is a Toyota Corolla (sort dull) but shod with the amazing Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres (bloody amazing tyre!!!!!) So, response from a performance tyre is something you get used to. One thing to note though is that the current generation S5 Subaru Forester runs rings around the 3rd generation Toyota RAV4 for driving and handling. This is not the sort of tyre for off road travels, as even with the Forester's X-Mode activated, a fair bit of slipping is evident on muddy tracks. However, during normal driving, this is a lovely quiet and comfortable tyre with predictable turn in and good confidence even on wet crappy roads at night. Very little wear evident so far. However, when pushed a little hard around corners, that's when I start to lose confidence in this tyre. But for everyday normal driving, it's a real pleasure to drive on, and very quiet as stated earlier. No real difference in fuel economy between factory fitted Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport 225/55R18 Tyres. Our best fuel consumption that we could get on our recent trip was 6.1 l/100km between Cairns and Ayr. I reckon you could definitely push the Bridgestones harder around corners, but when we replaced them with the Primacy SUV +'s, both inside and outside shoulders of the Brigestone's were severely worn, even when operating at 38 - 40 psi. To be fair, the Michelin Primacy SUV + tyre is aimed at comfort/touring, but again to be fair, you would need to upgrade to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tyres to compete with the factory Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport tyres. Unfortunately for me, the Michelin PS4 SUV tyres are not available in the 225/55R18 size tyre. Subaru Outback Touring and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Cruiser E-Four drivers will be pleased though as the PS4 SUV tyres in 225/60R18 tyres are available in that size, but alas, not for the Forester. If I had of chosen to go with the Michelin PS4 SUV tyres in the 225/60R18 size tyre, then my speedo would be out by 3km/hr, meaning that 100km/hr on the speedo would be 100km/hr on GPS speed, and I'd have no margin of error in this case. Currently the Forester under reads by 3 km/hr, meaning that if you sit on 103kph, then GPS speed is dead on 100kph, and 100kph on the speedo is 97kph on GPS - you get it. Jax Tyres and Auto Bowen Hills were fantastic to deal with on both occasions, and Graham went out of his way to help me with my very recent purchase of qty 5 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres on my 2011 Toyota Corolla to replace my worn-out Michelin PS4's. Highly rate these good folks! I travelled from Ipswich to Bowen Hills (45km each way) to get my tyres fitted. That says something!! Would I buy this tyre again? I'm not sure. This is a good tyre though. For normal sensible everyday driving, it excels at. It's quiet, it's comfortable, it handles okay when not pushed too hard. My dilemma is that I am a Michelin fan through and through. I won't put any other tyre brand on my vehicles. If the Michelin PS4 SUV was available in the Forester's tyre size, then yes, I would fit these tyres in a heartbeat! It's a shame they aren't available in this size though. I personally prefer a more performance orientated tyre.Only good things to say
I find it interesting that someone has had a bad experience with these tyres since all I have to report is positive. The current set of Primacy suv Michelins have been on my 2008 Hilux for just over 40,000klms and are still at a healthy level with perhaps 10-15,000klms to go. They have been rotated every 10,000klms and they have been run at different pressures ranging from 34psi to 42 when carrying the occasional heavy load. As the vehicle runs empty the majority of the time I wanted a tyre that was more passenger vehicle orientated over the la... Read morest set of Michelin Agilis. Whilst also a good tyre I did find that rear traction was an issue in the wet, though through no fault of the tyre as I do push it from time to time, especially when late for work. The Primacy tyres have worn very well all round, they brake very well for a vehicle without ABS (we have a lot of wildlife around here) and hold up very well out of corners in the wet for a modified Ute. The wet weather performance of these tyres is great actually, offering confidence against aquaplaning in areas where rain accumulates in certain spots. They are also very quiet. As mentioned, have had a set of the Michelin Agilis and also ran a set of the Michelin LTX Force for a trip through S.A & N.T though are now fitted to our Mitsibishi ASX. Have also had Michelins on my bikes over the years and not ever has there been an issue with balancing, loosing air or uneven wear. With shopping around I also found that price can vary from outlet to outlet. Overall I am very happy with these tyres and have no hesitation in replacing them with another set.Stay Away and save your self from an accident
With in one month 3 tires are bent and are wobbling . Had to argue with the distributor to cover these garbage tires under warranty. Now waiting for replacement and not being able to drive the car as these tires are not safe. Please stay away from Michelin. Will never buy Michelin again even though had Michelin on all my cars. Got Primacy SUV to replace my Michelin Altitude HP, Costco was having promotion Buy 4 get $100 off.Over the last few months, fuel usage was down 5% without altering my route or driving habit. It feels the tire are firmer without impacting comfort inside the cabin. Hopefully the harder compound would give better mileage too.
Dependable, safe quality tyres
This is the second set of these that we have fitted to our 2013 Mazda CX5 AWD diesel. These lasted us 40,000km with tread to spare - we prefer to replace them before they wear right down, and sold the last pair on to another happy buyer without issue.
We purchased these on a buy 4 get $100 back deal with Costco.
The original Yokohama's that were fitted to the car only last 30,000 and were badly worn. The fact that these are soft enough to drive well, but can take highway speeds and gravel is appreciated.

ne Ecopias EP850's which had a longer tread life than the Yokohamas, but not as good as these. These are driven on highways, city traffic, have been driven in heavy rain and even frosty mornings with no issues. The 2013 CX5 is noiser than some late model SUVs, but these tyres seem to be relatively quiet. The current set has been on for 20,000km and are wearing evenly. Would happily recommend to others and would consider these again. We have Continentals on another car and might consider those as well, as they might be even quieter again.Fantastic tyres!
Great quality tyres, my car drives well with these. Superior grip on the road, especially during the wet weather. Drove brilliantly towing our caravan. I feel very safe with these. Show detailsExcellent replacement tyre for Mazda CX5
I replaced the original Yokohama Geolanders on my 2013 Mazda CX-5 with the Michelin Primacy SUV. 2 of the Yokohamas only lasted around 40,000km and the other two 45,000km. As I use the vehicle part time for ride-sharing it is important that the car is in good condition with good tread on the tires.I've now done 50,000km with the Michelins and there is still plenty of tread there. I estimate there is another 10,000km in them but most likely more. I've had no issues with traction either in the wet or going around corners and bends. I have a lot... Read more of confidence in the tyres. I bought them because I had read that they were quieter than most tyres. When I initially bought them I did find that they were a little bit quieter than the previous tyres but now I don't notice it. I've read some reviews that say they are expensive. Bob Jane usually have them on sale every two months for around $189 which is a reasonable price for an SUV tyre. Given the mileage, I think that is good value for money. I will definitely replace the current tyres with more Michelins when the time comes, but that could be a while yet!
Best tyres, yet expensive
Great mileage, very quiet, and very reliable tyres for BMW X3. They are expensive (probably most expensive on the market), yet I believe they are a value for money. You can get them discounted sometimes online or at other service providers. Show detailsGood tyres but not for roundabouts
I've had Michelin's on my previous car and loved it so i thought I'd try the Primacy SUV. I bought these tyres at the end of 2016 for me and my partners 2007 Honda CR-V Sports. They were $215 per tyre with a $100 cash back as part of Jax Tyres deal. We rotated it regularly at every 10,000km or 6 months and run it at 38PSI. We ended up getting around 65,000km in just 3 years. Our type of driving was mixed like highway, using roundabouts, commuting etc. NO OFF ROAD USE OR TOWING!Some pros and cons
Pros:
- little bit of a quieter ride
- no incr... Read more
Great product and got a great deal
purchased from Bob Jane, usually i purchase any old tyre however they had a special on MCH 195R14C 106/104R AGILIS which also included a wheel alignment. I can say that when i drive i feel steady and safe knowing that i purchased a great tyre. Show detailsVery Poor Fuel Consumption
Bought them from Bob Jane and drove for two weeks. Was getting 700KM per tank with Yokohama's but only manages 600KM now with these set of tyres. Bob Jane have pumped rear tyres to 39psi and front ones to 36psi but no difference. Don't buy these tyres, they will cost you weekly. Show detailsSquirmy and the wear rating is a farce
Follow up after 20 months:These tyres have now done 28,000km on my Pajero and are within 1 to 2mm of the wear indicators. Effectively by the time they are no longer legal they will have given only about 60% of the distance of the Bridgeston Duellers they replaced (which had done 53,000km).
Yet they supposedly have a much better wear rating than the Bridgestones.
Not happy!
The squirmy feeling is still there, way too much feedback of even the smallest inconsistency in the road surface and they seem to magnify the small amount of slack in the steering box. Show details
Perfect tyre for CX5 SUV
