Don't! Do not.. Absolutly do not buy this product

1 out of 5, reviewed on Jan 23, 2018

Purchased from Shaver Shop with the usual "if not satisfied with the product Philips promise a refund guarantee" ...well, it was terrible.
And to make matters worse, dealing with Philips to arrange the so called promised "refund" has been an absolute joke! Do not even consider this product.
...this is the last time I ever purchase a Philips product.

I will be letting everyone I know to avoid Philips like the plague!

Verified Purchase Model: HX8111/02 (Original)

I tried two both expired working shortly after guarantee expired.

3 out of 5, reviewed on Jan 11, 2018

This is a great product while it works. I bought a replacement when it stopped short one day never to run again. The replacement was great while it worked but it stopped yesterday. Product life seems to be a problem with all Philips AirFloss models. Will I replace it with a third? Despite of a 20% off voucher from Philips I have decided NO. Don't reinforce failure. I will try the Waterpik offering as there are no reported unit failures shortly after the elapse of the guarantee and while bulkier in size reviews rate them better at cleaning tartar. It was a great product but lasted too short twice.
If they lasted more than one and a half years before expiring I would have awarded. Too expensive factoring in such a short life.

Great product but unit slowly deteriorates over time and then dies....not worth the money you pay

3 out of 5, reviewed on Dec 30, 2017

I love the air floss -- it is a really great product. I just wish it continues to work well just like the Phillips electric toothbrush. This is my 2nd unit already. The first one was the very first model introduced in the market. The problem with that unit was the activation tip would fly out of the handle after it ran out of the 1 year warranty. I would just hold the tip so it wouldn't fly out. I then bought the HX8211/06. Worked pretty well but 19 months into the 24 months warranty, the unit just died. It also started to have the same problem as the old one wherein the activation tip would fly out of the handle when using it.

I just had a chat with their customer service and was told a replacement unit will be sent. I asked if this was a common problem but was told it wasn't. If Phillips doesn't acknowledge this problem, it will never be a "great product" and will lose brand loyalty. There are newer products out in the market and if the replacement unit will have the same problem - I will definitely start looking at other brands.

The original was better - this went back

1 out of 5, reviewed on Dec 09, 2017

I had the original model and while rather pricey, we loved its burst action - did its job well. Then it just stopped working just after 2 years - out of warranty of course. I got this new model and was deeply disappointed. Phillips actually ruined the best feature of the product and it seems like they have done nothing to remedy the unreliable nature of it either. The 'burst' floss in this model is positively useless. It is more like a splash. Ridiculous for the price, I'd rather have my money back. So I returned it. Back to string floss.

PS - I picked up a water pic from ALDI for $69 last week and that works much better. It's battery operated which is not ideal but I think I will be investing in one of the 240v units soon

4th Air Floss unit via replacements through my dental office and failure of unit always within 2 mon

2 out of 5, reviewed on Oct 30, 2017

Three of the four units stopped working with only a clicking noise and the latest just stopped with only a ringing sound. When this product is working, it is very helpful but when it stops, it is dead with no apparent repair or reset options. Very frustrating. With one of the units, I disassembled the outer shell to access the mechanical apparatus and could find no disengagement of the gears or reason for the clicking. The units were always kept on a maintenance charge and there was never a dropping or abuse of the product. After having had four of these, I have come to the conclusion that there is definitely an engineering flaw which seems to affect the product within a very short consumer use period.

Good Product but not at all recommended

1 out of 5, reviewed on Sep 05, 2017

I have purchased two of these in last 2 years owing to the fact the they are really useful when they work but will just die all of sudden. Great product in terms of what it does but noting the price and the life span, it is not at all recommended. My issue with the airflosser has been that it will turn on but will not floss i.e. there will be no air and water/mouthwash droplets that will come out of it.

The best thing and the worst thing that happened in my life

1 out of 5, reviewed on Sep 04, 2017

For some one who always had a challenge in flossing, this product was a boon. I have become so dependent on it and can't live without using it after every meal. The worst thing is that I bought my 9th product in the last 3 years. The maximum life was 3 months. The worst part is the latest model fails even in less than a month. Finally I found an alternate product and glad that I don't need to look back.

Defect In Product; Warranty Not Being Honored!!

1 out of 5, reviewed on Jul 25, 2017

I purchased 2 Sonicare Air Floss Pro, one in November 2015 and one in January 2016; one for myself and one for my husband. I registered the products online and the product was supposed to in warranty for 2 1/2 years. Like so many other users have experienced, the products fail after a few months of use with a similar issue each time: the unit locks up and does not turn on even though it has a full charge!! I have had each of these products replaced twice (and returned the defective model to Phillps). Today I call because one of the airfloss stopped working yet again. PHILLIPS refused to replace the product even though there is a year left on the warranty!! I was offered a 10% discount coupon. Phillips has to know that there is an ongoing issue with this product but still refuses to replace or refund the purchase price!! This is a wonderful product (when it works) but Phillips needs to step up and honor their warranty or issue a refund!!

Changed 6 in the last two years

1 out of 5, reviewed on Jun 10, 2017

This product's battery does not last long for me at all. I have exchanged 6 ones in the last two years. Each time i had to mail it to Sydney and waited at least 3 weeks for the new ones to come back to me. It means at least 6 months in the last two years i had nothing to use. Asked so many times to extend my warranty just got absolutely ignored.

Works great, but it's just a waste of money and time - faulty line of products that keep failing wit

1 out of 5, reviewed on Jun 08, 2017

I loved this product for about 2 months until it stopped working, it smelled like the plastic had melted inside. I contacted customer service, and they replaced it so I was happy. Until this one stopped working too.
The customer service told me to buy a charger from the philips store online, so I dropped another $20-30 on that, when it arrived, it did not fix it. I contacted customer service about returning the charger, but they do not handle that so she won't help me. I have spent so much time and money on this product, a shame because it works so well I want to keep using it, but I can't afford to spend this kind regularly to replace it, it would be cheaper to just go to the dentist and get my teeth cleaned. Currently searching for a new brand - any recommendations? I tried to Airpik but it's not very good pressure-wise.

Thanks
Glen

Will Philips Sonicare backup their product - what is a fair use?

4 out of 5, reviewed on Apr 14, 2017

Now on to my third Sonicare in four years. The first failed, then the second replaced under warranty. Now it has failed again - the motor died. I have looked after the unit properly. Rang the help line - after a wait on the phone I was told - sorry - it is an old model, we only have 3% failure rate - but it is out of warranty. I don't think that is good enough for a premium brand and product. What is a fair lifetime for a product? - in my case it works out at 1.3 years per unit - that is not fair or reasonable. The Sonicare Airflosser does a good job, but it appears if you are one of those 3% they (at least the person I spoke to) won't recognise that there must be a manufacturing defect in that particular unit and backup their product. Peter.

Great for the 2 months it worked!

1 out of 5, reviewed on Apr 12, 2017

The Airfloss was a present and the first time I used it I was impressed, however after about 2 months the unit stopped charging - I can hear water in the unit so this is probably the reason. considering it is a water based product it is not sealed very well and I am disappointed - unlikely to risk buying another.

Faulty product, and customer service

3 out of 5, reviewed on Mar 02, 2017

After a relatively short time the water would no longer eject from the unit.
No receipt (as a gift )so customer service NZ are not interested.
Sealed unit so can't even get it fixed.
Relatively new and now only option is to put in rubbish bin.

May 8th, 2017 Update: Had it a short while and it broke down. Fortunately after my rant on this review Phillips Australia c

You must keep your receipt or you will have a terrible problem with the NZ office getting it replaced. As it's a sealed unit it cannot be repaired so it's useless.

Worked well ......for a while

2 out of 5, reviewed on Jan 16, 2017

Purchased a Sonic air HX8240 which worked well for a few months. It did perform better than I thought and gave a good clean to the gums removing heavily impacted foods straight after meals (no more tooth picks).

However it wasn't long and it started to "air lock" in the fluid reservoir- after a few shots the fluid and force would get less each shot. Opening the hatch removed the vacuum in the reservoir and allowed the unit to function for a few more shots until it "air locked" again.

Recently it just stopped mid clean and the "on" light would go off as soon as you pressed the "trigger". The unit has a strong burnt smell, so I assume the motor or circuitry is fried.

It wasn't cheap and I cant find the receipt, so in the bin its goes- worse still I just brought some replacement tips which are ridiculously expensive for what they are.

Based on the many negative reviews I don't think my unit was just a random faulty unit and I couldn't recommend it.

Great concept- pity the product doesn't live up to it. Seems to be so very many small appliances that fail so readily- but all are priced just cheap enough, and work just long enough, that the majority of people don't return or complain (or report on this site) in the required numbers to force changes to design and manufacturing practices.

Questions & Answers

HX8211/06 (AirFloss 1.5)

We're interested in getting an air Glosser, or dentist recommended them. No one in any sites locally have been able to help and I've had no reply from Phillips help page. Reading information on this site is making me concerned that they do there job well then break, at a couple of hundred bucks it is seeming like a harsh deal. Does it come better than that? Or is there another way, maybe a reason why they keep breaking.

James T asked on Jan 21, 2018

Answer this

That many Philips AirFloss units fail is established. Why? They are complicated instruments and do what they claim to while they work. They are expensive. I have bought a total of 6. Only one still works the other five failed six months or thereabout after guarantee expired. I decided not to reinforce failure so bought a Panasonic EW-Dj10 water irrigator. Reading reports they are slightly ahead of the Air Flosser at cleaning. They are marginally as easy to use. However they are cheaper less than 30% the cost of an Air Flosser. There are no reports of early failure that I can find on the web. They have a very simple mechanism with a lot less to fail. I like that unlike the AirFlosser they are not easy to knock over. I do not have it long & only one visit to my dental hygienist gave it an OK. Early yet but I am very satisfied that it is doing what it should do. Its not as hi tec I am comfortable that I made a good decision by buying it rather than an air flosser.

This is our 2nd air flosser and the first one only came with a year's guarantee. This particular model HX8211/06 comes with 2 years and luckily was still under warranty when the unit failed (won't power up). another gripe I have with this including the first one I had is that over time the nozzle comes off the unit due to the pressure - so I had to hold the noozle while using the air flosser. I think as you keep using and changing the nozzle, the unit becomes loose. I'm hoping that Phillips have improved this now and the replacement unit seems to be working fine but it's still early days (about 3 weeks from receiving the replacement unit). I'm noticing it is more tight now - so hopefully the nozzle won't come off.

Hello James, thank you for your question and for your interest in the AirFloss. We can appreciate your concerns and are glad you shared them here. We can imagine that the example of LeonDonSOD40 confirms your worries. Do keep in mind, though, that you will find mostly customers with negative experiences sharing their stories online. Having said that, the AirFloss uses advanced micro-droplet technology which indeed makes it a bit fragile. However, when maintained properly, the AirFloss should definitely last for a much longer time. By the way, did you know you get one more year of warranty when you register your AirFloss on our website? We hope this reassures you a bit.

Kind regards,
The Philips Australia Team

I have a Phillips Sonicare Airfloss HX 8240 The yellow warning light is flashing but it will not recharge. Please advise I purchased it 21st October 2016 with a 2 year International Warranty

Ken asked on Jan 14, 2018

Answer this

Your symptom is different to that I experienced on the two failures. With both the battery was charging without apparent problem. When upper floss button was depressed a jet of air and water was ejected beginning with a short series of jets before the on light extinguished then a single jet and very low pressure until after about 36 hours both would fail to work. After my experiences with two I and seeing early life failure is being experienced by other users and mindful of its premium price compared to other similar products I opted to buy a cheaper croduct which has good reviews and early failure not an apparent problem. I have had good experience with Philips electric toothbrushes. I presume you have contacted the manufacturer. I can only rate Phillips costumer service for a similar problem with Garmin who agreed that the early failure was outside the guarantee period but as a gesture on return of the faulty item sent a replacement. Hope that helps you in your decision making.

Best to call Phillips' customer service. You will be required to provide the serial number of your unit and when you purchased the item. I got a replacement unit and so far the replacement unit is working well (just under 2 weeks).

The battery on my HX8240 flosser does not hold it's charge. Is it possible to obtain a new battery? Also it has developed an odd taste, almost like a chemical. It has not been used with anything but water. Any ideas on that.

Answer this

Hello, John. Thank you for your question. We regret hearing you are experiencing some issues with your Airfloss. Unfortunately, the battery of the Airfloss cannot be replaced.
