Abbott's Bakery Country Grains Bread

Accidently bought Abbotts mutigrain bread from woolworths, "trust me I cant stand there bread" and once again it was totally disgusting. Dry, tasteless and falls apart once you start buttering it. I will continue to give bad reviews until its gone from the shelves. Show details
Yet another bread “something” has been done to, making it unpleasant to eat. Why can’t things stay the same, if the product is good? We’ve been buying this loaf for years, but recently it has definitely changed - slices are thicker and the consistency is different, the crust comes away at the corners making it impossible to cut diagonally. … Read more
Also, slices now stick together when frozen, when they used to separate easily, a sure sign that the bread mixture has been altered. We won’t be buying Abbots bread any more.

Won't buy again. Green mouldy prior to Best before date – Won't buy Abbot's Bakery again. Love taste but on multiple occasions went green mouldy before Best Before date. Condensation in bag at purchase indicates bagging before cooling enough. They're rushing. Show details
Had the same green mould problem with Abbot's Bakery Harvest Seeds and Grains which is my favourite bread but sadly, I've given up buying now.
Full Of Holes – I am experiencing the bread having holes sometimes whole loaf would be one big hole. Cant use it for sandwiches, wasting time and money. Great tasting but the holes put me off. Show details

Full of holes!! – Although we enjoy the wholemeal bread for texture and flavour, in common with other reviews here we have found this bread goes mouldy quickly and is often full of holes (see pic) This is a regular occurence and makes it totally useless for sandwiches. If other people are finding the same problem it's time the bakers addressed the problem Show details

We both love the dark rye bread .however not much supply in Woolworths. But when ever it is i buy several loaves – Keep making it please yummy and keeps fresh great sandwiches .
Country Grain - Lack of availability – We live in Adelaide, and have loved 'Country Grain' for years now, but since Covid we have been having Woolworth's home deliveries, and over the last two and a half years, most times it is not available. I have occasionally gone into other super markets hoping to get a loaf or two and have been surprised at how little Abbott's bread, in general, has been available, least of all, 'Country Grain'. -Sad. Regards Trevor. Show reply
Bad tags – Love the bread but hate the new brown tags. As you pull the loaf off the shelf the tag falls off first on the supermarket floor and then now at home. Go back to the stronger white tags please Show details

crapp – Bread is poor quality tears easily when toasted product resembles an anzac biscuit. I have baked bread at home and can produce much better product, by using bread premix. It appears that the dough was allowed to expand (rise) for too long, which would make it fill baking tin but produce a lighter (less dense) loaf. Also extra water , yeast and… Read more
different flour type/quantities may also contribute to a poorer product. Helgas mixed grain is almost identical now as above , like soft cruskits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will purchasing skip both brands. These products are marketed at the top end (premium) price range but obviously price is no longer a measue of product quality. Reading replies from abbot person saying that there has been no recipe change, is amazing in itself!! If you deny a situation exists then you don't have to fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who would bother going online to complain about a loaf of bread, but here I am complaining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So if whoever reads this and they are in control of this product stop being in denial!
Do not like the 'New and improved' country grains bread – I have been happy to buy it and pay extra for quite some time. BUT the 'new and improved' Country Grains loaf has changed for the worse in many ways. It is way too moist that causes the bread to go mouldy much quicker. It also does not hold its shape and squashes down much easier. I used to live the way it toasted but now it shrinks down to half… Read more
it size and just doesn't taste the same. Won't be buying it again until it returns to its former recipe.
They can't take any criticism – I had no answers from my local woollies as to why dark rye wasn't available. I rang Abbotts, was told an ingredient wasn't available at the moment and then hung up on when I asked why they can't keep the reseller's informed. I thought that question was reasonable because it's frustrating when woollies staff still think it's coming in the next… Read more
delivery. Keeping your customers informed I would have thought to be paramount to keeping them loyal. Mind you they don't tell Abbott's employees much either. The missing ingredient was unknown, with the admission that sort of information is not given to them either.

Searched for years for a good light rye bread Have been buying Abbott’s for a very long time. Unfortunately it’s not the same now. Have they changed the ingredients? And why ? Show details

Abbots bread, Full of holes – We enjoy Abbots Farmhouse Wholemeal, however we quite often get loaves with big hollows in them. When we use any type of spread a lot of it ends up on the plate. and quite often the slices just fall apart. We tried returning loaves to Woolworths but this did no good. I phoned Abbots, but they still produce loaves with the same problem. For goodness sake, Abbots you are bread makers, surely you should be able to get it right by now. Show details
Bye bye Abbots – First there was the change of the closure to cardboard. What a monumental failure that is at performing its main function. And now the recipe change… The texture of your previous recipe was why we bought it. Changing the texture has negated your point of difference. You’ve lost another long term customer. Show details
Very disappointed with the new and improved version – Just finished the second loaf to give it a chance. Doesn't seem to have enough "guts" and is puppy. Won't be buying any more.
Abbots Light Rye Recipe change??? – Unsure what has happened but we are from SA and Loved your Light Rye over any other brands. For the past few weeks though, we have been in Cairns and dislike the light rye here? Have you changed the recipe for FNQ Or is it just our timing and you have have changed it everywhere? The texture is now much more dense and gluggy and has like a burnt… Read more

Will not be buying this bread again – To start I have always enjoyed your bread and have tried 3 different viarities ...it was always a good value product but lately it has changed to a new improve formula and what a disappointment... separate slices ... I have never needed to put this bread in the microwave as it came apart well even frozen....The other noticeable difference is the bread feels doughy and soft and loses it shape quickly if pressed or squeezed with other shopping .....Even before it goes into freezer it has lost it shape the size of slice is so much smaller in size and as others said it has many holes ..... This is NOT improved formula in any way to me it's a step backwards in your baking procedures and I would say what has been added to the bread or not added the consistency has changed dramatically I have decided to buy another brand of bread on my next visit to the shop I hope you can rectify your formula and so it can return back to the bread I loved to buy Thanking you, this is my opinion and not maybe the opinion of others but hope you can take This feedback as a positive step to make Abbots Village bread great again Regards Mark.

Paper Bag Ties – Well for years I have loved your bread but this is the final straw. I am fed up going to get some bread only to find it is "old" because the paper bag tie has fallen off. I persevered with the situation for this long, using bag ties off potatoes and bagels etc. But today, after coming home from shopping to find two loafs of bread strewn all over… Read more
the boot of the car.......I'm DONE. I have now decided to use my local baker from now on. Good luck saving the world with your "chocolate fireguards".
big holes in bread so we had to eat twice as much – Most of the slices had big holes in the bread. As this is more expensive than other breads, I was not getting value for money. We would have to eat twice as much Show details
Sourdough review – In your Sourdough bread supposedly with lots of grains and seeds tastes more like wholemeal bread. I don't like the taste of wholemeal but I do like the taste of sourdough. Unfortunately, I can't taste the sourdough in it because the wholemeal taste is overwhelming. Show details

country grains goes mouldy – We have been buying Abotts country grains bread for a couple of years and while we like the product we are only able to use it fo about 4-5 days and a bit under 1/2 has to be binned as it goes mouldy. We have persevered now for about 6 months but now we reckon enough is enough and are about to change brands. As consumers and have been buying bread for 60 years are a bit miffed to say the least. Breads fine-Packaging is a problem – Had been buying other Baker's bread for sometime & decided to try abbotts again. The bread was ok but the new 'tie tags' are made of cardboard & obviously when there is moisture in the air, they lose any rigidity they had. When I grabbed the bread from my shopping bag, half of it ended up on the floor due to the useless tie tag! You would think… Read more
that instead of trying to just reduce the plastic (choke hazard) tags they had that a company of this standing could come up with something better? Obviously not! What about just heat sealing the bag to make it tamper evident & fresher? Ever noticed that the things everyone eats every day are the only products without tamper sealing? Margarine & Butter are the others except for Nuttelex margarine's.
"Honey I shrunk the bread" – I have been a loyal and regular customer of your bread varieties since the beginning. I have tolerated a significant number of loaves with large holes throughout, but on opening my current loaf, discovered a marked reduction in the size of all slices. So obvious that even blind Freddy could tell. You can't possibly think customers wouldn't notice… Read more
this. This is totally dispicable and unacceptable. It is also outright theft since the price is still the same. I will never buy Abbott's ever again.

Country grains…..and that’s not all ! – Bought a loaf of this bread from Woolworths today. Usually it’s one of our favourites but at lunch time today I made a ham sandwich and found what appears to be an apple stalk in it. It hurt when I bit down hard. Thank goodness I didn’t break a tooth. Won’t risk this brand again. Show details

It has changed & I am deciding if it is for the better – Last week I bought a loaf of your softer but crumblier & bent out of shape soy & linseed gluten free bread & lived with it. loaf, I found it was firm in texture, not crumbly at all & soooo much smaller I couldn't believe it. Still cost $7. I am actually still deciding if I will continue to buy Abbotts very costly gluten free loaves as I do like to have bread. Coles' brand is much cheaper & the same size as Abbott's new size BUT I have to say not as tasty as Abbott's. Do I like the new one? I'll let you know
Goes mouldy too quickly – Two day's before the "Best Before Date" is not OK - this has happened three to four times this year already. Purchased from Coles - not sure why my partner keeps buying it TBH. Show details
Full of holes! – $7 for this bread, thought it would be quality. I was wrong! Full of holes, falls apart easily, you're lucky if you even get it out of the packaging whole. Show details
