Overall sentiment leans strongly negative, with many travellers cautioning against using the platform for critical travel arrangements. While standard bookings generally proceed without incident, users frequently encounter severe communication barriers and a lack of accountability when issues arise. Resolving cancellations, refunds, or reservation discrepancies is described as difficult and often unsuccessful.
I used Agoda to book a hotel and thought I was paying a certain price but checked my credit card and some hidden fees were added. I have used lots of booking platforms and this is the first time something like this has occurred. For a short stay I ended up paying $80 more as a result. When I raised it with Agoda I got nowhere. Suffice to say I… Read more
would not be using Agida again because I now can’t trust them. And I would encourage anyone who reads this to do yourself a favour and give Agoda a wide berth.
Avoid Agoda when making international hotel booking for their extortionate exchange rates. For four nights at a Toronto hotel we were quoted USD1126 to be charged two weeks later in AUD. Instead of an XE exchange of AUD1158 we were charged AUD1700. Pure, simple extortion. Avoid Agoda. Show details

Will NEVER use Agoda again. I booked a motel through Agoda requesting a wheelchair accessible room. When we arrived Agoda had not passed on that request to the property and they tried to put us in a room on the first floor up a flight of stairs with no lift. They had no wheelchair accessible rooms available, they were all booked so they approved a… Read more
refund and sent Agoda the email advising them as such while I was standing there. I had to book another hotel at greater cost because of Agoda stuffing up. I waited til the next day before contacting Agoda regarding the refund as I had not heard from them. I was told that the property was enforcing the no refund policy for a cancelled booking. Even after informing Agoda that under Australian Consumer Law, where there is a major failure of service ( such as paying for a wheelchair accessible room and one not being available) the no refund policy does not apply. Agoda continued to refuse the refund saying the property kept refusing. I drove back to the property and asked directly to be informed that the property had approved the refund 4 times, twice in writing and twice verbally over the phone. The property gave me a copy of the email they sent showing the approval for a refund. I sent that to Agoda saying I knew they were lying and then they started blaming a 3rd party. As I had paid with a Visa card I contacted my bank to dispute the charge as I did not receive the service paid for. I sent the bank screenshots of the conversations with Agoda and the email from the property proving I never stayed and the bank issued a charge back regarding my payment. I then received an Email from Agoda saying that they had received notification from my bank about the charge back and was this a mistake, if so inform the bank and again reminding me of the no refund policy. I once again informed Agoda that it was not a mistake as I had not received the service and once again pointed out that under Australian Consumer Law no refund policy did not apply. Without permission, Agoda charged my card again for the cost of the room booked. I have now reported the transaction as fraudulent with my bank and cancelled my card. I have also lodged a complaint with the ACCC and fair trading.

Very difficult to contact. Online chat useful if a general information query but anything specific no. Most cash back rewards (for us anyway) are under $10 but if you claim a cash back reward you have to pay a $1 plus fee. Also searching for certain criteria but others outside those criteria are also appearing. Some rare properties not properly as described. In spite of these I have been a regular user of Agoda. I booked a week-long stay at a hotel advertised on Agoda as “newly built,” with a 4.6/5 rating. I paid the full amount upfront through Agoda, as a “Pay Now” booking. Upon arrival, I was told my room had a plumbing issue and that I’d be relocated. To secure my agreement, the front desk showed me a single photo of a clean, modern-looking room at… Read more
the alternative property. I accepted, not wanting conflict on arrival.
The actual room was nothing like that image. It was old, dirty, and extremely noisy due to ongoing construction—both inside the building and directly outside my window. Bed linens were torn, stained, and never changed during housekeeping. The substitute hotel had a 3.3/5 rating—a clear downgrade from what I paid for.
I contacted Agoda after my stay with a full account of what happened. I provided multiple pieces of evidence: photos comparing the promised room versus the reality, two videos showing continuous construction noise, and a clear explanation that I never paid the second hotel—because my booking was fully settled with Agoda.
For several days, Agoda responded with automated requests for documentation I couldn’t provide—like a receipt from a hotel I never paid. Only after I insisted and shared visual proof did they finally acknowledge “significant discrepancies in the quality of your accommodation.” They then offered a 20% refund—but framed it as a “gesture of goodwill,” not as accountability for failing to deliver the booked service. They also deleted my honest review from their platform.
I’m sharing this as a warning. Agoda will sell you one product, deliver another, deflect with impossible demands, and erase your feedback when it’s inconvenient. I’ve since switched permanently to Trip.com and filed a chargeback with my bank—because fair compensation shouldn’t require a fight. If you book with Agoda, document everything. And don’t assume loyalty will be respected.

Terrible customer service. Do not use! – Agoda are a total rip-off - they are either totally incompetent or scammers! I recently booked a 'single room with a shared bathroom' in a 'hostel' in New York only to be given a bed in a dirty kitchen(!) with two other strangers. It was so bad that I left after one night and the owner made money from me without providing any service. Agoda… Read more

AGODA have really upset my family. Our accommodation is a disgrace – After our bad experience with Agoda we feel we have to let others be aware. This is the first time we have had to give Agoda a ONE star. Our accommodation in Aeon Towers in Davao City is a disgrace. 26 September 2023. We trusted Agoda to place us in a clean, family friendly property. But far from it. The apartment next to ours is still under… Read more
construction and we have been lied to about the level of noise and dust we have to endure. There are so many other things we hate about this property. We have travelled thousands of kilometres only to be placed in a property that is still under construction. AGODA have also advised us that our full payment went to Booking. Com and not Agoda. To me this is very shifty. Are Agoda that desperate. They must have a new owner. We are horrified that Agoda is now a hard-nosed business and do not understand we are in a building. that is still under construction. We have asked for a partial refund, but this has been refused. Agoda are on the side of the Aeon Tower corporation and must be desperate for money. There must be some rule that protects full paying tourists.

Extremely disappointed & frustrated. 1wk since my hotmail acct was hacked & after dealing with many chatbots, online humans and over the phone humans, I've been passed from phone to online to phone to email to phone to email. for Agoda to update my email address used for my Diamond Agoda account, which has >10 paid hotel bookings span over next 5mths, so I can't just close the Agoda acct as suggested by the staff. In the meantime, I reopoened my hacked account in attempt to verify myself as Agoda for some reason think the only way to verify the customer is by email rather than call me on my registered mobile number! Phone, online and email staff all claim the only way to verify the customer is by the 'other' method, ie not them! Where is the orgsnisation, policy, and professionalism? In reopening my hacked microsoft acct, >$1000 unsuthorised transactions wete made in 1day and unauthorised refund requested by hacker! Agoda unlike expedia or its sister company booking.com which could update a simple contact email in less than a minute, Agoda replies with a generic email as below. Can anyone explain why after 1week, Agoda still can't execute a simple task such as update an email address. Updating my email address would truly enhance my experience. Being passed from chatbots to online humans to phone humans back to online humans to email exchange with presumably humans over 7days without my contact email address being updated does not enhance my experience. As soon as I complete my >10 paid bookings in early 2027, I can't wait to close my Agoda account. It's not safe! Where is help & support when needed? I am only asking to update my contact email address and I am warning my contacts not to open anything ftom the hacked account in the interest of others. Is that too much to ask?
Such a joke. Now Agoda is asking me to reopen my hacked microsoft account AGAIN to verify myself… Read more (+1 reply)

When perusing hotels to stay in Mandaue Cebu City for June 26, I chose the Maayo Hotel, as it appeared to have everything I look for in a Hotel and at a great price. result, I took this issue up with Maayo senior management, I requested a discount in the form a of refund. A small percentage for good will, as I love the ocean, swimming etc, I am an avid scuba diver and snorkeller, so I was unhappy about this situation but I understand renovations need to be scheduled. Although, I could of booked elsewhere had I been informed of this situation prior to booking. The response from senior management was that they had informed Agoda of this renovation, yet Agoda has failed their customers by neglecting to inform and display this notice on their booking site. Accordingly, Maayo management advised me to take the issue up with Agoda, Easier said than done, as this deceitful company have very few avenues to contact them for any reason. I eventually did send an email to them requesting a partial refund, the return email stated that the email address is NOT always monitored, how convenient for them. So to date I have no response and no other avenue to contact them. I suggest Agoda is all about Agoda, grab your money and run to the bank. I have travelled on 8 flights this year, the majority of my hotels have been booked through Agoda, so one would think I am a valued customer, but perhaps this is just an illusion in my mind. Think long and hard travellers before booking with this company, book with a company who values your business, they are out there. Booking.com comes to mind, they have great options.

BEWARE! AGODA AUTOMATICALLY CANCELS Bookings 4x days from check-in, without your consent! booked and paid IN FULL, by credit-card, using Agoda for the first ever time, for a Canberra Motel's ultra-cheap rate, three weeks before check-in. I instantly got a Confirmation email. Two weeks later, I suddenly got a "Booking has been cancelled by Agoda due to an Unforseen Systems Error." - exactly 4 days prior to Check-in! It said I will get a full refund. BUT I had to quickly scramble to find another Motel urgently, using Expedia and paying twice as much, as it is now so much later for any cheap offers! Do not use AGODA, it is not reliable and plenty of people have had weird cancellations like this - but only ever with Agoda. They use an Indian support team. I suggest yuu use Booking.com or Expedia, they ALWAYS work for me, never failed in 50+ bookings!

During my trip to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, I booked accommodation through Agoda, expecting the room and conditions that were shown in the listing. situation quickly became very uncomfortable. Instead of the accommodation that was advertised, we ended up in a place that was far worse than what had been promised online.
We contacted Agoda support, hoping they would help resolve the issue. Yet nothing was done.
No solution. No compensation. No accountability.
Overall, the entire experience felt like a system designed to confuse travellers, pressure them into unexpected payments, and then place them in completely different apartments than the ones advertised. In our opinion, this crosses the line into outright deception and fraud.
What you see on Agoda is not necessarily what you get. You might book a specific room in a particular building, only to be moved somewhere else entirely — into a different building with noticeably lower standards.
Overall, the experience left us feeling deceived and extremely disappointed. Travellers should be very cautious when booking here.

voucher to the value of USD75 to which my wife reluctantly agreed. I stated that the error had occurred on the booking site and no fault of my wife’s and there was no way humanly possible to make use of the booking.... as they so politely suggested. We received 3 emails from different persons saying that there will be no refund. It adds to my own experience 2 years ago in Stockholm where I booked and paid for 2 nights only to find out that there was NO booking under my name and that the hotel did not deal with Agoda. Think about booking through Agoda next time you are about to.
Follow-up · A year has now passed without any compensation. The Agoda website issue of changing date when booking has left my wife out of pocket. Agoda ended up charging less than I was expecting, altho the amount seemed to vary, and payment choices offered were very confusing. I’m shocked by all the bad reviews. I use Agoda all the time as it’s usually always the cheapest, never had any issues. not feel it is safe to visit anymore so I contacted Agoda through the app and requested a free cancellation including a refund and explained my reasons. It said they or the hotel would get back to me within 48 hours and within 10 minutes they had sent me an email saying they were happy to cancel and give me a refund and the refund was pending on my card used straight after. They didn’t need to be reasonable and refund me as it was my own choice to book a non refundable room but this level of reasonable customer service is what I respect a company for and will give my continued custom to.

cancelled was mine. No advance warning. No alternative arranged. No transport offered. We were told a few hours before check-in to find our own solution, in a city we don't live in, with a toddler.
We needed accommodation with a kitchen — not a preference with a three-year-old. At zero notice, the closest equivalent cost about 2X more than what I had already paid Agoda.
Agoda's opening compensation offer was 10%. It took several rounds of pushing to get to 50%. After the refund and that compensation, I was still AUD 75–80 out of pocket for a failure that was entirely theirs.
Agoda's own partner guidance says a guest who can't be accommodated must be moved to an equal or higher standard property at no extra cost to the guest. They didn't find us anything, and they left us paying the difference.
The refund is not the issue. A booking platform double-selling a prepaid room and then negotiating downward on the damage it caused is the issue. Book direct with the property if you're travelling with children.
