It's fantastic. I use it as a diary to store all of my appointments that then sync to my iPhone :) Has great battery life too... Oh, and I LOVE the iMessage feature... Use it all the time.
The iPad is essentially, the new netbook.
With a larger interface than the iPods this makes it easier for everyone to use, not to mention harder for the kids to lose.
Definitely a great purchase for the whole family.
The wifi makes it
