Pros: quiet.spacious,water and energy saving!
Overall: I was unprepared for the brilliant performance Its quiet and the drying fan is just what I needed. Easy to load, large baskets that hold everything from glassware to pots and pans, and cleans them all perfectly!!!
After looking at everything, including Miele and Bosch, I found Asko to be much better value for money

Pros: Excellent cleaning action; quiet; customer service
Overall: When my old Dishlex dishwasher broke down last month, I went out looking for a replacement. I checked the usual brands - Dishlex; Fisher & Paykel; Westinghouse; etc. But I was shocked at how flimsy and cheaply-made they were. For example, the latest Dishlex models seem nowhere near as durable as my old Dishlex which was purchased 10 years ago. The washing rotors were all plastic, and the handles and controls on the machines seemed flimsy - almost coming away in my hand as I tested them in the store.

I then looked at a more expensive brand, which was Asko. It looked to be much better made, and the sales assistant in the shop said it should last for 18-20 years, compared to the cheaper brands which would give about 10 years service (which was exactly how long my previous dishwasher lasted.) So I paid $1099 for a new Asko model 5424 and was told it would be delivered in 2 days time.

Two days later I received a call from the delivery driver saying that he would be delivering the machine within 2 hours. Then about an hour later I received another call from him saying that he was very sorry, but he had arrived at the warehouse to load up his van and there was no stock left.

I rang Asko and they were very apologetic. They said there had been a computer error - the computer was reporting that stock was available in the warehouse but in fact there was none there. They said that this hadn't happened previously. They promised to phone me back as soon as they had more news.

At this point I wasn't terribly impressed. But within 30 minutes Asko rang back and said that they would give me the next model up in the series (5434) and that it would be delivered the next day.

They did deliver it the next day, and I now own a model that should have cost $300 more than what I paid. And I'm delighted with it. It looks very sleek, has simple, robust controls, and is amazingly quiet when it runs - far quieter than my old Dishlex. And it gets my dishes, pots and pans really clean.

Credit to Asko for really looking after their customers. They resolved the problem at (probably) considerable cost to themselves, and were proactive in their actions. I'm very happy with them and the machine.

Pros: Sparkling dry dishes
Cons: Expensive compared to other leading brands
Overall: As a researcher I naturally checked on brands and models and spoke to some techies from companies to clarify points on dishwashers. I was tossing up between Miele and Asko, and yes there are reports online about Asko diswashers having had some tech issues (maintenance is part of life) and they would probably not go back and by another (read choice) but these reports do not apply to this model and regardless there are cons listed about every brand/model dishwasher online. Due to having power zones, fan assited drying and grey drawers with stainless steel spray arms inside the Asko (have experienced discoloration of white drawers on a reputable brand) and that I prefer to support a smaller company who makes these dishwashers in Sweden, I purchased an Asko D5434ss. It does exactly what it claims, you can be green and have a 20 minute quick wash, or in a 55 minute wash have beautifully clean dry plates. There are many other fancier modes with extra hot rinses etc. It's your choice. Good one Asko, no wonder you got the red dot award for this one.

Pros: Sparkling dry dishes
Cons: Expensive compared to other leading brands
Overall: As a researcher I naturally checked brands and models of dishwashers prior to purchase, I clarified points with tech service in a few companies, two dishwashers that were up on my list were the Miele and Asko, and yes I had read plenty of scathing reports with Asko due to tech problems (maintenance is part of life) and people not wanting to buy another (read choice), but these did not relate to this model, nor did any brand get away without cons being listed on line. So with regards to the Asko having powerzones, fan drying and grey drawers (have experienced over time discoloration on white drawers in a previous dishwasher of reputable brand)and preference to support smaller company who makes these in Sweden,I purchased the D5434ss and it does exactly what it said, you have the option of being green and using a 20 minute quick wash or in 55 minutes it will leave the plates bone dry, you can use fancier modes with extra hot rinses etc. It's your choice, but above all it does the job well and quietly. Good one Asko!!

Pros: Washes and dries well, looks very smart! generally quiet running.
Cons: Water pressure may make for a few noisy moments in cycle - but general Yes its a quiet machine
Overall: About 2 months ago we had several call outs on another brand we'd had for 8 or so years - generally we were happy with that brand but in looking for a new dish washer the Asko D543SS was recommended. I believe this is the top of the range model and we liked several features such as the movable cutlery basket, the pot scrubber and we loved the clean lines of the front. We are very happy with the performance - the cleaning and drying of items seems better than our last dish washer. It was said to be a quiet machine - generally yes, though in our situation in a couple moments of the cycle the water pressure (on/off) seems very loud - I think this has more to do with our plumbing? We love our new machine - when we returned home from a few days away it was nice to come home to such a smart looking machine (the machine while away was definitely noisier and hard to open door with out breaking nails).

Pros: Past reliability, good cleaning and drying, and good value for money
Overall: Our previous dishwasher was an Asko and gave well over 17 years service. It needed 2 service calls, one of which was my fault. The choice of a replacement Asko was easy. We chose this model because it suits our needs - we liked the extra cleaning for the pots section and the cutlery rack, as well as the turbo drying. It's energy use is better than the cheaper model. Simple good looks with sensible design. We shan't use the tops for the cutlery baskets, as they seem a bit fiddly. It's very quiet in operation and the controls are intuitive.

Asko service in the past has been excellent and was again with this. The machine was delivered and installed within 25 hours of purchase from a large Sydney dept store. The installer said he would be here between 11 and 1 - in fact he arrived at 11.01.
