Asus EP121 (2011)

Asus Eee Slate continued – I now have my computer back. The courier just left it at the front door. No signature. The service centre claims to have fixed the problems. Within 5 mins the bluetooth devices stop working, in the device menu it clearly states the device is working correctly but the physically the device does not work. The keyboard does not repsond at all. Itmust be removed as a device and added each time this happens.
The keyboard is worse than ever. The communication between the two is so slow that I have to basically press each key and wait a second. If I type at a normal pace, the computer freezes and sometimes needs more than 10 seconds to respond. When the computer finally catches up, it appears that one letter repeats itself for over 5 to six lines. I thought it might be a battery problem. I have replaced the batteries twice just to check. Same problems with the mouse, phone etc.
I have check the sevice letter invoice. It claims to have fixed the problem. It also claims to have replaced the keyboard and the bluetooth driver.
I just want a computer that I can type on.
I have asked Asus to give me a computer of lesser value, something that is reliable. Still no answer. They have agreed to pick the computer up for a second time.
I wonder if it will take another 21 days to fix. In the policy it clearly states 7-10 working days.
I have to ask everyone out there;
If you were at university and in the middle of the semester, could you afford to be without a computer for more that 21 days?
What an unreliable product.
I do not recommed the Asus Eee Slate to anybody. Although I have been a Asus valued customer for 6 years, they are not willing to do anything for me.
I though I would just leave that there.
Faulty Product
A lemon, should have bought an Ipad – This is the most expensive computing device I have ever bought ($1300 October 2011) and it has turned out to be the worst computing device I have ever owned. Has needed repairs two times under warranty and has once again failed to start and now it is out of warranty. A complete lemon. Windows compatible, stylus, long battery life, USB ports Expensive and continually needs repairs - 3 times in 12 months
Better than I expected – I was given a choice of this, a laptop or an Apple IPad for Christmas. I chose this for several reasons. Firstly, the price, it was a few hundred dollars cheaper than an IPad. Secondly I'm a Graphic Designer student and it will serve me a lot better than an IPad. I wanted something that I could take with me wherever I went. I agree with the other review, that the on screen keyboard is a little small. In saying that, there is choice of two onscreen keyboards. The keyboard that comes with it is great and works well. The only downside to the keyboard is that there is no place for it in the case that comes with the EP121, so I had to buy another case/bag so that I can carry everything together.
Start up is super fast and the paint programs that come with it are real very cool.
The only negative is that after I put a few songs on it and a few images, I was left with only 30% of the hard drive. I have solved that problem with a memory card. Fast start up. Battery life is good. Cool programs Only the fact that the folder that the screen fits into that came with it, there is no place for the keyboard.
Magic Tablet for what I wanted – I wanted something that had good portability, good battery life and excellent compatibility with my laptop which uses Microsoft software. I found that my Magic Tablet does most of what I wanted, stock- standard. It has a good display and interfaces very well with the screen pen as well as the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. The onscreen keyboard is a little small but the pen is easy to use with this and the recognition and conversion of my handwriting is especially neat.
I have used it to conduct on-site audit follow-ups and this proved to be better than expected.
I have also delivered an impromptu Power Point presentation in a client's board room which was most impressive. The touch screen is very handy here and the screen pen is a good backup but the mouse is a better tool to use. Compact, lightweight and fast start up were impressive A little expensive to not have an onboard modem for 3G connection but the USB modem works well
