Better off almost anywhere else – Would give 0 stars if I could. We were looking at purchasing a property and were told Bankwest would be our best bet. Only to get part way through the application process and find the goalposts moved every time. They'd request evidence from us, we'd provide it, they'd say it's all good, then a few weeks later they'd ask for something else… Read more
completely unrelated. They wanted us to calculate figures for them that were readily accessible to them from the information already available. Rinse and repeat ad infinitum. Risk assessment criteria are frankly ridiculous and there are better lenders out there. Don't waste your time.
Not the Bank you want to trust – Do NOT trust this bank. I am currently on a income protection until I return to work and cleared by the doctors. This has left me to sell my current house and relocate to buy another. I have defaulted a few times as my income protection is paid weekly and not monthly, it all goes on my home loan. I phoned the bank again to discuss matters to find… Read more
out that if I sell my house and have a deposit of $350,000.00 and I would like to have a pre approval for $150,000.00 which would get me into a property and comfortably be able to service the loan o my current wage until I return to work, has been rejected and I have been told to not even worry about applying for a loan with them because I have defaulted for a couple of months. Truth is, they went on about how they wanted to help me get through this only to be told now my house is up for sale is they wont even touch me for a loan even with a 70% deposit. Happy to say that there are other banks out there that are willing to service a loan with a 50 to 70% deposit. Your loss Bankwest not mine.
Hone Loan – We Built a new home but had the Mortgage with another institution so we decided to refinance our loan and go with Bankwest as we have all our other accounts with Bankwest, we have have never missed a payment on our credit by paying it out monthly we have money in the bank , our home got valued at 1 million dollars, also never missed payment on… Read more
our Mortgage and we both earn over $200k. To our surprise we get declined by Bankwest, the reason, we do not meet their criteria. After speaking to Bankwest they said their is nothing we can do. I did mentioned that another major Bank have also approved our loan. and that I will be closing all our accounts. They showed no interest and said well if that's want you want to do that is okay , and I asked if they would review our application again but they refused . They call this customer service. After this experience I would not recommend bankwest for anything.

Marcia Li the Magnificent! – Marcia Li is one of the best mortgage brokers I've worked with. I've been a loyal Bankwest customer from when they first arrived in Sydney. Marcia has been helping me with my mortgage, refinance, and investment property loans for the last 5-6 years. She's always willing to go the extra mile to get her clients the best possible interest rates and… Read more
terms. She's also very caring and supportive and takes the time to get to know her clients and their individual needs.
Bankwest Home Loans should look to Marcia as an example of how to improve their overall customer experience. She is consistently providing her clients with a high level of service. By focusing on providing a more personalised and supportive experience to their customers, Bankwest Home Loans could improve their overall rating on this review site and attract more customers.
I highly recommend Marcia Li to anyone looking for a mortgage broker. She is a true professional who is committed to providing her clients with the best possible service.
Easy home loan rate review with excellent result – I have been a Bankwest customer for 10+ years. The experience has been satisfactory so far. Recently I asked them to consider reducing my rate as the current rate was higher than other variable rate product. Without any fuss, they sent an internal request for a rate reduction to 2.18%, which has been approved a few days later. My other experience… Read more
dealing with Bankwest customer service team has been good too. I recently used Live Chat to ask for a phone call appointment. They kept me posted on the appointment progress as they couldn't find any available lenders on the day. They called me on the next business day to get the matter resolved. I was overseas when they called me on my overseas contact number. They could've refused to make an international call, but they did it. I couldn't ask more to this Bank. The app and online banking are decent, simple and do the job. Thank you, Bankwest. Keep up the good work.
Home Loan - All Good Here – Well done BankWest, I've dealt with many of the major banks in relation to trivial personal loan matters and in some instances they have been horrible. Ran into some difficulty with home loan repayments and guess what? BankWest made it easy to resolve. COVID-19 has been a difficult time for many but not for us. BankWest took the time to understand… Read more
and learn how we could improve our situation while ensuring that the mortgage would be managed in a manner that would ensure everyone was happy. Good team all round with good communication and a genuine attitude that shines in terms of taking care of their first priority, which is their customers! FWIW- We were only on the phone with them again this morning and once again they took the time to listen and ensure that we can make things work!

Customer service....never heard of it! – We have 3 loans for investment properties and on multiple occasions we have had dishonored charges for small account fees of circa $300 because the direct debits that have all been set up, do not include account keeping fees! After 45 min on hold I get told I failed to fill in a form for the direct debit for each of the account keeping fee… Read more
charges! Clearly my fault!! When I asked can I get a form signed so all charges are covered, he hangs up and doesn't call back! What a waste of time that was!!
Refinance ASAP – I received a call from Bankwest represenantive for my home loan account 14 days in arrears and was told after advising them that it would be paid the same day that they would be reporting my late payment to the Credit Reporting Agencies Are they for real in this current financial nightmare where the man on the street is suffering in so many ways instead of offering support they THREATEN YOU!!! Started great as per my first review 5 stars then but now – Changed over to Bankwest never had an issue with my mortgage until the day my mortgage time is up. I’m trying to get new fixed rate. It seems once your time is up no one wants to know you at the Bank. Thanks for coming what more can I say this inaction. Show details

Worst mortgage application process ever! – Save your time and effort and apply elsewhere! This is the bank that realises they need more documentation at settlement after having advised us nothing further is required multiple times, with no other explanation than 'been advised by my manager'.. Worst bank ever – They contacted me after being with them for 7 years saying my ID provided had expired and if I don’t provided new ID they were going to freeze my accounts. When you try and change banks they make it very difficult to leave. It’s like being in an emotionally abusive relationship. If I could give less then 1 star I would. I do not recommend anyone go through this bank Show details
bankwest are Liars – Had a loan with this bank for years without ever missing a payment and when I ask for a new rate (as I can get a much better one from all other banks) they tell me I have an old loan rate that should not be used and promise to reduce it. They didn't. Because I said I will change banks if they do not change the rate they then closed all my accounts and state they refuse to deal with me again.
Dreadful – applied for a loan on the 9/4, the valuation happened a week later and we though great things are moving along, then one request after another for updated this that and the other, each time they said, yes that everything we need but NO they then needed something else, finally on the 6/5 they said, we have everything we need now, wont be long now,… Read more
by the 12/5 and several calls in between I got a variety of updates ranging from,* all is good just waiting for final approval,* some of your statements are missing months,* we've sent info to your broker that we are waiting on, *we cant see where the savings come from, i mean it just didn't end with the issues, who know's what's actually going on with our loan, we still have no outcome and my last call to the bank the response was, we have no idea when it will be completed, great service, amazing and you wanted to charge over 3% interest rate, your having a laugh Bankwest and Im pretty sure that despite the numerous hideous reviews of your service you still wont change a thing and why would you, you're still making enough money to not care less.

Bankwest delays releasing home loan when refinancing – We have a home loan and bank accounts with Bankwest and are in the process of switching to Bendigo who have been fantastic. Bankwest declined our refinance application because of one credit card late payment fee (which turned out to be inaccurate anyway) so we switched to Bendigo. Everything from Bendigo's perspective was ready to go a week ago… Read more
and Bankwest advised that they would release the loan a week later (1st April). We are now told that they cannot release it until the 13th April because of their 'payment cycle'. Surely this is not in line with the royal commission's investigation into the banking code of ethics? Have been on hold to discuss for over 20 minutes. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I am about to contact the AFCA and will provide their feedback!
Latest: 07/04/21 Bankwest advised us that the issue was with our new bank. We contacted them and they investigated.
08/04/21 After further investigation, it transpires that Bankwest is in fact the organisation responsible for delaying the release of the home loan.
Home loan FHO – This was the worst customer experience I’ve ever received in my life. Like someone said before “if you care about your mental health do not come to Bankwest”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I applied for a home loan with Bankwest and they rejected it. The guy that was handling our application name Le-on lim was terrible!!! When I first went to meet him he… Read more
provided us with information we gave him all our details and lodge the application. The application took a long time. Le-on was near impossible to get a hold of. He was always busy and never picked up his phone. They only way to reach him is if he reached out to you and wanted a document. He never gave us updates on our application I was the one always calling Bankwest and finding out updates about our application. The night before the application was due he sent us an email! He didn’t even have the decency to call to say that more documents was needed....why would you wait to tell us this the night before finance due date???? When the due date came for our finance he said more time was needed....lies! When I called the next business day they told me that the application was denied on finance due date! To make it worst....Le-on went on annual leave without telling us anything on the day our finance was due so we could not get a hold of him. He never communicated to us he was going on annual leave, he never told us our file would be handled by someone else. He just went away our file was handed over to someone and when I called the person to get updates on our application he didn’t even know anything about our application he said to call him back in about 3 hours. So when I did call back he said the application was in fact denied but he couldn’t give me a reason as why the application was denied. No one ever reached out to me to follow up. I’ve gone with commonwealth now best experience ever. STAY AWAY FROM BANKWEST
Bankwest to Skankwest – Beware! Expensive rate for long unanswered phone queues. Worst decision I ever made to switch to Bankwest! Totally dissatisfied with climbing rates and declining service service. Do not trust!!!! Go straight to the parent bank (Commbank) Show details
Down Down Focus & Intergrity is DOWN – Have/Had been with Bankwest for 15+ Years as a loan customer, and over 20 years as a savings customer. They were good early on (possibly when owned by HSBC), competitive and helpful. Even facilitiated a bridging loan! THEN they started ignoring customers such as us, leaving us on a Home loan product that was not market competitive. We rode that… Read more
out. Since then they have moved rates more inline with a profit driven organisation, not in line with or RBA or CBA (their owner). They are now not only non-competitive (rate wise) and will not revisit what they have (customer base wise). Poor for a second tier bank. I have provided them on time and accurate repayments, each and every time...and the CBA (with bigger overheads) offer a better rate?!?!
Enough is enough. Refinancing.
Watch out when you go to settle – I bought a property recently and day before settlement had to come up with $275 ? No actual reason someone in Bankwest stuffed up lucky my conveyencer NOT BANK WEST helped me out or I would of had to pay penalties with vendor? They refunded the money I had to pay in what they said was an apology but not good enough one thing after another with bank west I think I’ll be looking for a new bank soon? Show details
Warning Beware Bankwest If You Are Operating Under An Enduring Power Of Attorney (EPA) – Bankwest revoked my legally binding Enduring Power of Attorney without first ensuing that my husband had the mental capacity to revoke it. him many hours sitting in the same shopping centre as Bankwest & i presume they supplied him with the paper & pen to do so.When i told the Bankwest branch officer that they could not do this i was told to my face that they could & had & if i wanted to do anything i could go to the state Administration in WA & get a Power Of Administration & bring it to them. It is now 8 months since they revoked my EPA & every time i have complained ,gone to ombudsman they have refused to budge & tightened their stand .I now have used up all available cash & need to access our term deposits which are due now , in order to live, pay our bills & comply with Self managed Superfund rules in regard to withdrawing our SF pensions as calculated by our accountant but they have refused & claim that our accounts can no longer be accessed by the branch as Bankwest Customer Care have taken them over. Yesterday I attempted, with my husband to close all our joint A/C as i am taking them to P & N Bank but was again refused. This is not a game of who wins & who backdowns over a situation that should never have happened. In Dementia there are no winners & as a trained Registered Nurse & carer for my husband whose Dementia is rapidly deteriorating & impacting on our family daily. To be told to go to SAT is a kick in the face & an abuse of my rights as a customer with Bankwest for nearly 40 yrs & the person who has always handled all written communication re our business & SMS due to my husbands limited English reading & writing skills for the past 38 yrs of our marriage. We have no loans with bankwest it is our own money they are denying us access to I do not know where to write this....to be more clear.I can email documents from Bankwest stating their position if you want & you give me an address to forward to as my computer skills are not good Thanks
worst bank i ever come across. Please do not take any loan. Beware of this bank – I had fixed rate home loan (interest in advance) back in June 2017, When my application was approved in Apr-2017 with the rate was 3.99%. On the day of settlement they increased the rate by 0.35% on all fixed rate home loan. Now there was no RBA rate hike or no changes from any other bank but because they advertised lucrative rate to attract the… Read more
customer and once they got sizable amount of loan from different customer with interest in advance they took the advantage of all customers with increased rate. it cost me lots of money but i didn't have any choice as the loan was interest in advance and it had to be settle by end of June. Please note that interest in advance home loan normally paid by the end of June so customer had no choice but to go ahead with that. i would strongly suggest to keep yourself away from this bank. I had no issue if RBA had increased the cash rate and in a response BANKWEST HIKE the rate but it was not the case. I believe BANK WEST is misleading customers.
Worst bank ever – I have my home loans with Bankwest, they are the worst bank I have ever delt with, I have a 3 year fixed rate, and due to the banks poor service, added stress and high fees I wanted to break my fixed loan and get as far from them as possible, how ever I called Bankwest to find out the break costs which was over $15.000, I have reported this… Read more
bank to the banking ombudsman 5 times, for a range of different things but the banking ombudsman sided with this disgusting bank, unless you want high fees, poor service and added stress stay away from this horrible bank
Permanent residency is not enough – I found them being discriminatory regarding the permanent residency criteria. I got rejected because I am a permanent resident through partner sponsorship. I am a full permanent resident (801), not even a temporary one! Their website claims it's sooo easy to apply for a loan, and only mention the PR requirement, not the type of PR. Show details

Do not conduct ethical practices – Before disbursing any amount towards any progress payment regarding construction they want customer to pay any variation that they opt separately regardless of that variations was actually delivered on not. ethical? No sense at all jungle rules they apply for customer purely unethical. Before settlement of lan loan there was shortfall of around $30k from bank and it got fixed only in last minute before they realised their mistake. Unbelievable
Home Loan process is the worse by far – Took out a loan with Bankwest at Livingston branch recently and dealt with a foreign guy there. I must say it did not go smoothly at all and in fact, it was the worse i've ever gone through. He wasn't knowledgeable with the process and kept telling us he understands where we are coming from. our calls completely. I had loans with commonwealth, westpac and other institute and never had this much issue.
Their rates are good but extremely poor customer service.
FYI: He rolled his eyes on me.
The worst of the worst – Do yourself a favour and avoid this bank - they need their own royal commission. I'm leaving with my 2 mortgages and going elsewhere after 12 years - and saving a massive $570 per month in the process. The latest unexplained rate hike is the final straw. Bankwest have zero interest in retaining loyal customers. They WILL NOT match other banks… Read more
rates and think they are doing you a favour by having you as a customer. Neogotiate rates with them.? Don't waste your time - just move banks. If you're an owner occupier with a variable mortgage you should be paying around 3.7% - under 3.7% if your mortage is over $1m. Bankwest are charging me 4.14%. How can anyone be in business and not know what their competitors are charging.? Rude, indifferent and alarmingly ignorant staff who simply have no idea what is happening out there in the market. Most branches have now closed in NSW. Get the best mortgage broker you can possibly find - normally that's yourself. Rate City is a perfect start. I honestly hope that if enough customers leave this bank they will go under. I know I'm not alone judging by the appalling comments of others on this website. My tip is Bank Australia - please check out their reviews on this site yourself.
Worst bank owned by CBA – My experience has been hell. The loan was unaffordable they accepted flase info from broker unbeknowance to us. Set me up to take both properties. Put interest rates up shortly after. The loan was taken out. Charged excessively. Fees every five mins. I hope the royal commission sorts out the customer relations people who think they are a law unto themselves. Shame on you.
Customers is a piece of crap to Bankwest – After to take the loan you are like a football in the field they will play the game if you are clever like me you can come out with smart exit good luck guys Bankwest think customers are stupids and idiots
Bankwest has not given me 1.51% discount on Equaliser Home Loan, false adversiting – I am new home loan customer of Bankwest and as advertised on Bankwest website I applied for Equaliser Home Loan. As per website I should get 1.51% discount but only 1.35% discount has been applied. Bankwest is lying to customer and misguiding customers to get new home-loan business. Do not go with Bankwest as they do false advertisement on the website and cheat customers
home loan approval top up – Hi have been with bankwest for sometime ( watergardens vic), I gave the so called their best and in high demand loan specialist, after giving them everything and only been able to reach them via txt or email ( my choice), I am only to find out via call center the loan manager went and cancelled my top up with out our approval. Going to a different bank NOT HAPPY WITH THEO.
Bankwest Zero Interest to retain Customer . Just Switch Your home loan instead of calling the Bank ! – I have just look up my housing loan rates realized that it is on high side . anything about it and told me i can reapply for a new loan . I was stumped .... it would have been easier for them to just reduce my rates but no ..... i have to reapply . I told them if that is the case i could have just apply with another bank which have even lower rate than whatever they are offering . She was telling me there is a discharge rate of $600 . I let her know that my rate difference will cost me an extra $1400 every year even after the discharge from their bank and after i apply with another bank , i will still save around $800 . It is just that they have been alright so if they could make a slight change i would have stay else i would need to move on to reapply with another bank . Even after all that , she still tells me that she could not do anything about it and it is sad to see me go ... lol . Bankwest have Zero interest to retain good customer . Dont waste your time calling the CSR . Just switch .
How long does it take to get a mortgage approval – We applied through a broker for a construction mortgage 19 days ago & broker keeps saying this Friday or this Monday so called them & apparently they can get a decision in 5 days so explain we've been waiting 19 days and had valuation 14 days ago apparently takes longer with a broker & can take up to 6 months. Go figure?
About the same as other banks – Don't ever try to apply for a debit mastercard. I tried for 3 months with no success. I was told not enough equity in my mortgage so i put 100.000 dollars onto my mortgage still no luck now i am looking for another bank.
update – Whoohoo finally granted unconditional approval state manager approved well done bankwest sense prevailed Now let see how we go.I will give bankwest thumbs up for acknowledging their errors. Charlie
BankWest (IN)complete home loan – Just found out that the BankWest 'Complete' Home Loan I have (that costs $399 per year), isn't as complete as I was led to believe, with it not including an Easy Transaction (or basic streamline) account, and have been charged extra for this 'premium' service they offer. They also offer crap deals to existing clients, when I refinanced they couldn't help in the slightest, however my mortgage broker was able to get a significantly better deal! They don't care about the clients they do have, and poor retention is going to hurt them in the long run!
Slow, slow, slow – If you want anything done within a reasonable timeframe, forget Bankwest. Customer service when it comes to timeframes are woeful. Now that I want to discharge that mortgage because it has been repaid, still more delays. It takes up to three days for them to just call back. I asked for a discharge form so that I could send that in but I was told that I could only get that by speaking to a particular group which, of course, could take up to 3 days for them to call me back ...
Stay clear because it is hard to express how much stress they have caused me previously and now that I can't even get them to send me a simple form.
