Oh my I just read all these reviews, I gave drontal to my puppy and could not understand why he wasn't eating since I gave it to him yesterday and today he looked to be shaking at one stage I could see he was a bit off but at this stage no hottifying side effects, but I can say for certain that this is the last dose i will give him. I missed his 8… Read more
week dose, gave him dose at 10 weeks but was hard to get him to eat it this so not sure if he swallowed it all as he kept spitting it out. At 12 weeks which was yesterday he ate it all and now I can see he is not well, definitely do not use.
Our Border Collue suffered a major seizure after being given Drontal. Vet weighed him and Vet Nurse gave correct dose... but the seizures were massive... despite taking him to Emergency Vet, he did not recover, and had to be euthanised that night. Paid Top price for Drontal... and instead of a Worm free dog , I had a dead dog.. He was in such… Read more
distress , It was an awful death. ... and we had to euthanize bc (despite the massive anti-seizure drugs given at 24 Hour Vet)... he was in a permanent seizure. Shaking and drooling, So distressing for him. Then the Bill had to be paid. Buying Drontal was a very expensive exercise. Emergency treatment and then Cremation came to nearly $2000.
Gave my 14 year old dog Drontal IN EARLY MORNINGa few hours later would not settle, 2am needed to go outside and had diarrhoea, went out again at 4.30 am same issue. Next day listless and agitated Avoid this tablet Show details

Could not persuade my dog to take this large unpalatable tablet – I cannot comment on the effects of this pill because I found it impossible to get my dog (a 14 year old GSD) to take this 'Dog Tasty Bone'. She shied away at the smell and would not take it even when wrapped in food. Stupidly, these 'bones' are too large to give as a pill on the back of the throat and even grinding one to a powder and sprinkling… Read more
it on her food just made her back away and refuse her food. I would mention I do not have this problem with NexGard Spectra tablets which she will eat with relish so it is certainly possible to formulate a tablet that is appetizing even for a picky GSD. I only wanted the tablet as a tapeworm precaution but I'm pretty sure she doesn't have a tapeworm so I will not try to force her. But surely this company can provide a better option than a so-called 'tasty' bone that my dog will not eat?
Vomiting blood! – I have this to my Chihuahua/Maltese and by the next day she stopped eating and was vomiting small amounts of blood. We have her plain chicken as tolerated but for several weeks she was eating less, vomiting intermittently and not herself. Then she vomited a huge amount of blood for a small dog late at night and needed to go to the emergency vets… Read more
for anti nausea meds and a lot of tests. She seems to have turned a corner but giving this poison to my baby has been an expensive and worrying mistake!!! Why is it still on the market???!
Warning ⚠️ do not use! Should be Zero for this product – Just like I had fed my dog poison, Very bad reaction for my Jack Russell vomiting and diarrhoea within half an hour of the chewable tablet that lasted for a few hours made him very sick and disoriented, would not recommend this product to anybody!!! complete waste of money! Also a very scary experience for our kids to see our family pet in distress. Show details
THIS TERRIBLE PRODUCT SHOULD BE BANNED – I wish I read earlier. My vet subscribed this to my 2 years old Groodle. We gave to him last Tuesday, and 7 days later, he is still vomiting and being sick. I had to take him back to the vet, and got some anti-nausea injection. But his condition hasn't improved. I am planning to take him back tomorrow to run more testing. I hope more dog owners can see this one. I wish no more dog will suffer from this terrible drug. Show details
Drontal Doesn't work, not recommended – I just got a 9 week old puppy and he had been given the drontal syrup at 2 week intervals by breeder. When he arrived to me, he was whining and totally unsettled, with to add scooting and I decided to use a different worming treatment, even though already fully wormed. OMG the next poo he did was disgusting as nothing but a large live worm came… Read more
out, nothing in my 33 years of having puppies, I have never seen. The first 1 worm which photo I add, just shows the size of, even being wormed at 2 and 4weeks with drontal syrup and tablets 6 and 8 weeks. We then rewormed again following day as still coming out most dead, but still a few live ones, as he totally had a total worm infestation. The pup I was sure had many more inside as was still scooting. Next few days we had hundreds come out and some poos looked like string wrapped, which came out of him. Looked like had never been wormed. It has taken multiple worming treatments but finally got on top of. Would never recommend the drontal allwormer liquid to anyone with puppies, might have used water. Other person who took a pup in litter also have found same, besides massive worms but also unsettled pups. With all looking like skin and bone, once worms are out of there system. Like others zero stars, I would give if possible. Certainly not impressed or happy as this worm shows at no stage did the drontal do what it recommended. I never brought this product but breeder did in July 2021 when puppies born, so can't complete all details, but know it is not cheap, as have used in pass on my older dogs by my vet.

Absolutely never using this or recommending it , my 7 1/2 year old German shepherd was given this all wormer on Thursday and has some terrible side effects, loss of appetite, neurological issues with his back toes, emergency vet visited, just poor product, never again Show details
If I could give 0 I would I wish I read these reviews before I have to my dogs. Gave before dinner and my dog was vomiting all night. Doubt any worm treatment stayed in. We were recommended this at the pet stock store - will be telling them to read these reviews and stop stocking this awful stuff. Show details
Don't give Drontal to your dog/s.....very bad experience – Gave my 8 month old pup Drontal & within a couple hours he was a different boy. Continuously panting, random bouts of continual barking at nothing, Continuously pacing, non coherent & thirsty. This went on for most of the night. None of us got any sleep! Never again will I buy this crap. Nasty stuff. Show details
An awful experience for you and the dog – Gave our 3 month old puppy the recommended dosage and he changed drastically within an hour. Aggressive, biting, destroying things, massively anxious and hyperactive. Would go from playing to being extremely angry. He normally loves cuddles but would be distant and not wanting to be touched. Took about 12 hours after the dose before he calmed… Read more
down.
Regressed massively with toilet training but that's understandable. But it's pretty ridiculous this is still a product considered there are similar reviews from 9 years ago.

NEVER AGAIN – This product should only be used if you’re trying to torture your puppy! My poor little Groodle (12 weeks old) suffered terrible pain with vomiting, diarrhea, stomach aches & lethargy. 2 hours after recommended dosage that was prescribed by the vet & he was uncontrollably sick. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT! I wish I’d read the reviews first!!!!! Show details
Caused major aggression and my dog ended up biting someone – My worst fear was realised today when my almost 3yo Australian Shepherd, who is normally well behaved and have never made contact with anyone out of aggression, bit a teenager on the back of the leg who was just walking past our house. His breed is protective and would bark at strangers, but he’s never made contact, even when strangers walk right… Read more
past him. The teenager who lives down the road from us said she passed our house every day on the way home from school and walked past our dog only 2 days ago and he barely looked at her. Yet today he barked and bit her without any provocation. The only thing different in his diet and routine was that we gave him a Drontal Allwormer chew yesterday. I noticed that he was extra hyperactive when he saw me this morning but just assumed that he was excited. He was also extra barky at people walking past our house yesterday and today but I was able to shut him up and tell him to stay back with verbal commands. I am absolutely mortified that this happened and am just praying that it won’t lead to something awful if the family reports this to the authorities. I can’t believe that there is nothing in the warning label or known to the vets etc when there are this many people reporting similar behavioural changes.
Up all night – 10 week old Cavoodle given her first dose at dinner of Drontal puppy. Poor darling was unsettled all night, agitated and panting, restless and thirsty, went right through till about 1am. Not good, Show details
Do not give to your dogs – We gave our 10 week cavoodle puppy drontal and he was crying and whining all night. In the morning he was like a different dog absolutely hyper and feral. Then when he was resting he was jumping in his sleep and hiccuping. Later that day he had a small seizure like episode. He was perfectly fine before having Drontal. I will never give him it to him again. Please read all of the reviews.
Do not buy! – I've given it to my 1 yr jack russell and it has made him extremely anxious and hyper from 6 hours of taking and lasted through the night. He is normally an easy-going dog but he has been whimpering and barking. I'm surprised my vet recommended it. Will never use again, it is obvious he is distressed. Do not buy! Show details
Never again – Same as other reviewers here - after an hour of taking a single dose of drontal for large dogs, our 6yr old Dalmatian is now hyperactive, whimpering, and bordering on manic. Is this stuff dog medication or amphetamine? Sadly, I just purchased a year and a half supply that is going to be returned to Petstock. Show details
Do not give to your puppy! – We gave our 12 week old puppy one Drontal chew about 4pm yesterday and he turned into a different dog within an hour! Was extremely anxious, hyperactive, panicked and unsettled. Spent the entire night whining and pacing the house. No one got any sleep. It was awful to see him so scared and upset. I, like many others, only wish I had read the… Read more
reviews previously. I’m just glad I’ve found the cause as we thought he’d turned into a monster! Haha! I’ll be throwing away the rest of the treatments that’s for sure!
STAY AWAY FROM DRONTAL – I looked online to see what the top workers are for my 5 month old Labrador, Drontal was number 1, so off I went to Pets at home got the wormer gave him it at 12 noon and then the hyperactivity started. It was awful to see him so unsettled and the fact I caused it by not reviewing Drontal properly. I think this should be taken off the market. Its now 8am and he is fast asleep on my knee, poor boy. Avoid at all costs – Like many others have reported here, I gave my dog 2 Drontal Allwormer chews in the morning which resulted in at least 24 hours of uncharacteristic anxious and restless behaviour - constant barking and hyperactivity that continued all through the night. Will never use again. Show details
Worse than TERRIBLE! Caused Seizure, anxious, licking air constantly and restless – 1st time drontal user 1tablet provided by vet for 7y/o cavoodle.(my dog is approx 7kg administered medium dog tablet for up to 10kg) Within the hour my dog became overly anxious and had a seizure for 3 mins. Afterwards he was constantly licking the air (never done this before) & himself and wouldn’t settle. He is on high alert for any noises and… Read more
barking. I’m so worried I’ll be watching closely and will be reporting to Drontal & vet. I will NOT USE DRONTAL EVER AGAIN! Don’t take the risk! Wish I’d read reviews before administering. Does worming even prevent worms? Because I’d rather treat the problem later than give my dog poison for a chance they might get worms!
Terrible Side Effects! – Gave this to our 5 month old lab/sheppard puppy and he was up all night pacing, whining, and panting. He vomited on our bed and has been aggressive and biting. This drug should not be given to animals without owners being warned of potential side effects! I will NEVER give this to my pets again.
Dont do it. Cant see how this has not made the news yet – Gave 2 dogs drontal. A 16 week puppy and 13 year old. Puppy started vomiting after 3 hours. 4 days later still has diarrhea. Show details
When will this product stop hurting my dog? – Our dog (Labrador x border collie) is very agitated, restless, mischievous, hyperactive and will not sleep or sit still since last night after we gave these worming tablets. It’s like he’s not himself anymore. He’s very very slowly returning to his usual gentle, settled nature but I had no idea he would become this way after Dontral until I read… Read more
all these experiences. It’s been over 24 hours and he still hasn’t fully settled. Within the last few hours tonight he’s become aggressive and almost bit me. It’s really upsetting and stressful for him and us. When does it end? What do we do? :(
Horrible product. Just went through pretty much the same thing everyone is talking about – Gave Drontal Plus dewormer to our two brand new 8 week old Golden Retriever pups. They became steadily more hyper as the night went on. Given at 5 pm. By 6? They were restlessly walking around. Hourvor so later? They began to show aggression to each other and even toys. THIS AGGRESION WAS NEVER BEFORE SEEN. Hour or so later? After separating them… Read more
to opposite sides of a split floor plan house to avoid them fighting each other? They continued to bark cry, try and open doors by throwing their bodies at them. It's now almost three am. This all just finally stopped with both dogs passing out within a half hour of each other. I'm praying it's both over, and that there are no long term effects. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT PERIOD. One star for "terrible"? Is far better than this product deserves
Fatal – We administered our border terrier (who was 4 years old) the correct dosage for his size and weight. Within 6 hours he was experiencing cluster seizures - straight to emergency vets. He was chewing air aggressively when not in seizures, restless. Hyperactive. We were given diazepam to calm his seizures. From this day on for the next 16 weeks he… Read more
had seizures almost every day until unfortunately they begin to affect his brain so we sadly had to have him euthanised a day before his MRI scan. We thought that the wormer potentially kick started potential epilepsy, but we were never to know this. All we know was that it started after this wormer. Given everyone else’s reviews I can guarantee that it was this that caused his death. Please do not buy this product!!!
Never Again – I got a Drontal from the vet for my 6 month old Golden Retriever puppy. I have it to him around 4pm. By about 6pm he became really hyperactive. Not wanting to settle after walking and playing, chewing vigorously, in and out all evening and waking me up to go out at night just to listen to noises. I’ll never use this again. Show details
This should be banned!! – We gave this to our 9 week old border collie puppy, he is normally a placid affectionate dog. Not long after giving him frontal, he became extremely hyperactive, very aggressive, whimpering and crying, running around like crazy, barking at nothing, he almost turned demonic. This was recommended to us by PetStock in Engadine. Show details
This product should be banned!! – 100% agree with everything we have read online here. We gave our 10 week old puppy Drontal at 10am Walked her as usual and by 12 noon she became a different dog. Barking, whimpering and hyper. Cant sit still. Eyes darting. Keeps running to the front door to go out and then runs back in. Anxious and over all paranoid. Then she started getting… Read more
aggressive, biting hard and losing control.
It is now 7pm and she has been like this for 7 hours.
Never again.
Hyperactive – Gave this to our 7 month old lab at approx 8pm, within a few hours became very abnormally hyperactive - continuous barking in bed (laundry), needy & wanting to play +++. I had to sleep on the couch with him and he woke up very alert, every 20-30mins to tiny noises and paced the house. This lasted until about 11am the next day. He has never shown this behaviour before. I have reported the side effect to the company (as it's not on the packet). Show details
