Bosch SMU50E05AU

Absolutely do not purchase!! – Bosch SMU50E05AU was purchased by the developer. After 2 years, the dishwasher broke down and was repaired. Paid for repairs myself. Now 7 years later, the dishwasher is broken again and this time repairs amount to $760. A total waste of money and not worth buying this dishwasher nor Bosch products again. Very unreliable, costly and not worth the money. Show details
Poor quality product – My washer worked for three years but now is having issues after issue. Was told the power circuit board needs replacing. Did that and now the check water light keeps coming on and the cycle won't finish. We've spent so much on it we will cut our losses however I won't buy another Bosch. Show details
Frustrating – Check water light comes on. Checked all hoses for any blockages, none found. Cleaned internal filter. Good on water useage, quiet, cleans dishes well. Very frustrating that this check water light stays on.
The machine doesn’t work when check water light is on
Very disappointing – I purchased this dishwasher in November 2012 from appliances online after researching other brands and deciding on a Bosch. There were no issues with it during the first four years but recently there have been multiple issues. First I had the drain pump replaced at a cost of almost $300. However less than 2 months later (and another $98 call out… Read more
fee) I've been informed there are issues with the main pic board and Inlet, and I've been told it would be cheaper to replace it! This was not a Bosch service attendee. I have now tried contacting Bosch, particularly given the other reviews on here. In my initial phone call I was told I would be charged the call out fee and then quoted for whatever repair work is required. I'm trying to decide whether to just give up throwing money away and purchase a different brand?
I wrote this initial review and subsequently contacted Bosch. They arranged to send a technician… Read more
Do not buy! – I got a brand new Bosch SMU50E05AU dishwasher that I haven't been able to use even once!!! I turned it on and the 'check water' light went on and it stopped working! I called Bosch customer service yesterday and the lady told me the problem is the water pressure, which is not true cuz it pumps water in but doesn't drain. I am extremely… Read more
disappointed in Bosch and will never purchase anything from them again. I was so close to buy a Bosch washing machine, but with this experience will definitely go with another brand.
Very short working life – I am so disappointed with this Bosch dishwasher. Purchased December 2012 from Appliances On Line. This purchase was verified by Customer Support at Appliances On Line. It has had just over four years use, usually 3 times a week and now it's dead. The circuit board has burnt out. A replacement board costs $339! Not happy considering it's a Bosch and that's the main reason I bought this brand as I thought their reputation stood for quality. Show details

fault – I have rated this oK as far as functionality, its realitively quiet and pretty good on water use, however after only 8 months the check water light is on, its pretty disappointing that a manufacturer who has a reputation of being reliable has a common issue like this, from reading feedback it seems a very common occurrence. Do not buy – Do not buy this product. Worked for three years and then gave up. First time the power board needed replacing at a cost of $400. Now the check water is flashing and the dishwasher is not working. The manual says to call the service people and it will be even more expense. I had my old dishwasher for 10 years and it was great. This Bosch purchase… Read more
however is so disappointing. What was meant to be a branded effective dishwasher has turned into an expensive experience.

Very dissapointed – The most expensive, worst dishwasher I have purchased. The water doesn't drain from it, doesn't dry or clean the dishes properly and it smells. The plastic on the front panel has gone blotchy and when I contacted Bosch they wanted nothing to do with it. These problems started from new. After putting many new dishwashers in as a plumber, they were a good product. Obviously quality control has slipped. Show details

Very disappointing product – I inherited this from the house I purchased recently and the house only less then 3 years old. Means that the dishwasher also less then 3 years old. However recently I have been facing a lot of problems with this dishwasher, once it been running on a wash cycle for hours as I started the circle before I went out in the morning and when I got home… Read more
in the afternoon, the dishwasher still running. Also recently the water was not pump out properly, always there's water remain in the dishwasher and the indicator of check water came on. I have to manually run the dishwasher and reset it few times to pump all the water out.

worked perfectly ...but only for 3 1/2 years – This machine worked very well from the time we bought it, but last week it just stopped. I would have thought that Bosch would make products that lasted at least 5-7 years. I've been told that the model is now discontinued. Am not pleased to be replacing big-ticket items like this so soon As of 01/01/23 , this Bosch dishwasher is working fine. Show details

Installing the Dishwasher – I'm not a Tradie and had no issues at all installing my dishwasher, using the instructions. I even had to cut a round hole to fit the water supply hose and modify where the drain hose attaches to the kitchen sink drainage. It seems a bit odd a Tradie can't fit one!
Terrible smell coming from dishwasher – I have had this dishwasher for about 4 years and nearly from the beginning there was a really disgusting smell after about every 3rd wash which remained on glasses and dishes and makes it impossible to eat or drink from them...This has only gotten worse and I now have to hand wash everything...Do not buy...disgusting!

Find out how Bosch SMU50E05AU compares to other Built-in Dishwashers
Know better, choose better.
Not happy – My dishwasher doesn't dry properly and now it has stopped working. It pumps water in then empties it out and the check water light comes on. Can't get the side off to look at the outflow pipe because it has stupid screws that don't fit any screwdriver heads. Absolutely fed up.

Cheap Bosch = rubbish – We inherited this dishwasher when we moved house. I always thought Bosch dishwashers were good - I even recommended them to a friend who was renovating - but I was very unimpressed with the performance of this one. Plates often had residue left on them unless we spaced them two prongs apart, and most things in the top rack had to be dried by… Read more
hand with a teatowel. The wine glasses also started to go cloudy, so we started washing them by hand. Within a few weeks the machine stopped mid-wash with water at the bottom of the machine, and the "check water" light came on. Spent an hour or so going through the manual, checked the hoses, pump etc as recommended - nothing worked. Called Bosch and was told that even though it was still under warranty (only 8 months old), it wouldn't be honored because we weren't the original purchaser (what a cop out).
So we called a serviceman, who found a small piece of glass had got into the pump - he fixed it but it cost over $100. Now, only 6 weeks later, the check water light has come on again, and again we can't fix it by cleaning the filters etc. I know the filters didn't dislodge this time because I've been keeping a close watch on them, so there shouldn't be anything caught in the pump. So in a machine less than a year old, the same problem twice in 2 months! From my research on the net it appears that the 'check water' problem is a common issue with Bosch. Do yourself a favour and Google Bosch dishwasher check water E25 error. Anyway, I'm not spending another $100 and wasting days waiting for a serviceman to get this piece of rubbish fixed - I'm ditching it and getting a Miele (hopefully they still deserve their good reputation). I'm sure the previous owners thought they were getting a basic but reliable dishwasher because it's from a well-regarded brand. Actually, they got a plastic-bottomed cheap waste of money with an expensive name. Our last dishwasher was a Dishlex - it wasn't expensive but gave us no trouble for 11 years! Will never buy or recommend Bosch again. Very quiet Doesn't wash well, doesn't dry well, unreliable

Can't complain for the price – We've had this dishwasher for several weeks now, which replaced a Fisher & Paykel Nautilus which was 7 years old and the motor had gone. I read other people's reviews on this dishwasher prior to purchasing and despite some of the negative reviews decided to purchase anyway as it was on special for almost half price and because of word of mouth… Read more
recommendations I'd been given on the Bosch brand.
So, although I was apprehensive about this purchase, this Bosch cost half as much as our F&P and is a much better machine in my opinion. It took my husband 30 mins to install and that's because he had to make the hole into the cupboard bigger to get the dishwasher piping through to the plumbing.
Our dishes have come out perfectly clean and dry every wash thus far. I had to get the tea towel out and hand dry everything with the F&P. We actually waited almost twelve months to replace the F&P when it broke as I had pretty much resorted to washing up everything in the sink anyway as it was quicker than waiting for the dishwasher to finish and hand dry everything anyway.
There is no offensive odour at all so far (touch wood) and most impressively it is so quiet you could forget you turned it on.
So for the price I am really pleased with this machine. As a low spec model it doesn't have any of the bells and whistles but with the common quick/heavy/pot pan/normal washes and half load it suits our young family just fine. Does a perfectly good wash and is very quiet. Might be too low spec if you like the bells and whistles.
Basic and Bad – This dishwasher is terrible. My 20 year old one cleaned better. Dishes generally come out still dirty even when the filter is cleaned out after every use. Spend alot of time having to hand wash the food that remains after the wash is complete. It smells even with regular cleaning. Is pretty quiet. Quiet Cleans bad and smells
What detergent are you using.
Installation instructions impossible to understand – Just had one of these dishwashers delivered and my husband who is a tradie spent 4 hrs installing it. Instructions are in about 6 languages but not much of which is English. Visual clues are also unclear. Rang the customer care centre as it said to do to obtain clearer instructions but they said that was it. They did offer to put us onto a… Read more
technician if we rang back the next day. Oh and when we unpacked it there was a handling dent in the side. Fortunately it was in an area that was not visable once installed. Not impressed so far Price
A very good dishwasher – This dishwasher is really good. It washes and dries dishes very well and is very quiet. I am happy with it. No more to say. Reliable, quiet, performs well
Basic model, washes well, dries poorly – Bosch has a great name in dishwashers and at $600 this looked like a great buy. But this is a very basic model with a plastic (not metal) base and few wash options. It does a very good job at washing but so it should with a long cycle time of 2 hours 20 minutes on normal. There is a quick option, but it only washes and doesn't dry! The front… Read more
panel is very basic - a knob and few lights, none of which tell you how long until the cycle finishes.
The biggest drawback is drying. There's a fair amount of water still around at the end of the cycle, a bit better if you leave it for a long time, but compared to my old, cheap Fischer & Paykel which washed in under an hour and dried soon after, this doesn't measure up, except for the wash quality, which is the standout point.
Be aware, this is a cold water only dishwasher. If you connect it to a hot tap, you void the warranty. Silly me didn't check before buying. I had to put in a T-tap off the sink cold water line - did it myself for under $10, but it was an extra hassle. Washes very well, low price, quiet Dries poorly, cycle too long, no indicator telling the length of the cycle, cold water connection only
I am throwing ours out – This is possibly the worst dishwasher I have ever owned. At the end of just about everywash the items in the dishwasher are left with what I can only describe as as "dirty dog" smell. It's impossible to drink from glasses or eat from bowls and plates with this smell. We have spoken to the supplier and directly to Bosch who, naturally, claim… Read more
they have never heard of this phenomenon. Google "Bosch diswasher dirty dog smell' and you will find page after page dealing with this issue. How can no-one in the supply chain not have heard about this?? Quiet, good capacity Dirty dog smell!
Hi - can you confirm that it was this model? Thanks
Great value for money – This dishwasher is great. It's really quiet and when I first turned it on I had to check that it was working. I purchased it nearly 2 years ago and only use it 3 times/wk but I haven't had any problems with it at all. Glasses and dishes are always clean but I do rinse them first due to my gap between turning it on. Everything is dry when I… Read more
open it but I also think using a good quality dishwashing product like finish quantum is a big help there as well. Quiet, has lots of room for big items & energy efficient My wine glasses have to be on a lean as there's not enough height for them
Quiet! – This product came with the property we purchased. It is very basic, but it does great job and it is very quiet (at least a lot quieter than the ones we have used at previous properties which may have been 5-10 years old!). The only annoying thing is that it does not dry dishes very well. So even a few hours after the cycle, glasses and dishes are quite often still wet. Very quiet. Does not dry well.
Value for money – Brilliant! I have upgraded from a very poor IAG dishwasher, i wanted to get a dishwasher that is of a good brand but still within my price range. My husband and I decided on this dishwasher based mainly on the room inside and the brand and of course the price. Cleans beautifully, I have only used the 'normal 45' wash cycle so far, if i am… Read more
washing pots and pans they seem to be fine provided they are well rinsed beforehand. Also it is super quiet when it is on, the first time we used it, i was sure it wasn't actually washing anything.
Great energy and water rating, we are extremely happy with our purchase Fantastic price, super quiet, looks attractive, roomy inside... Doesn't have an indicator of how far through the cycle it is
