Amazing grinder – Bought this today for the bargain price of $20 lol. If it lasts 6 to 12 months I'll still be happy. Gave it a good clean with a soft paint brush and blew the old turkish coffee out of the gears with compressed air. Set grind to expresso setting and added Columbian beans from Aldi in the hopper. Made a coffee after inspecting the grind and it was… Read more
absolutely fantastic. So many poor reviews of this grinder but I have found this one to grind perfectly compared to my $18 Kmart coffee blender. Easy to clean and easy to use. Will update the review in a year or so if the switch doesn't break before then but for a 12 to 14 year old appliance I'd say this one was one lucky grinder that ticked all the right boxes on the production and assembly lines to last so long.
Used daily for 10 years and still working well – I've been very impressed with this grinder. I use it almost daily, and have owned it for 10 years. It's worked every time, i've never had a problem with it, and I think it does a very good job at grinding the coffee beans. Never clogged, rarely needs any cleaning (besides the plastic container that i lightly tap upside town after using it). It… Read more
feels solid, and is obviously well made to have already lasted 10 years. Well done Breville, clearly one of your better appliances.
Great for this price range! – I have had this Grinder for 5+ years, the button failed once but I was able to pull apart for a minor fix. I find that the suggested grind size is not accurate but with some time and fiddling I have been able to work out what the perfect settings are for my use. It doesn't have all the bells and wistles compare to other grinders but great for the price range. Show details
Agree with "Bad" – Had a chance very recently to test this grinder prior to purchase. The intensity of fresh coffee flavour is somewhat dependent upon the fineness of the grind. I have a cheap, cheap cheap Sunbeam twin blade grinder and it grinds far finer than this supa dupa Breville Bar Aroma. And if I want to I can grind my Sunbeam even finer by repeating the… Read more
process. Friends, I can get a coffee grind consistency not unlike drinking chocolate or baby powder (although I wouldn't recommend your using it to dust yourself up after a shower).
N E Way, I didn't buy it and have lost faith in all conical burr grinders, (until further notice).
Excellent grinder - grounds beans evenly every time – Had this grinder for about 1.5 years, actually bought it second hand for $25 (bonus), I use it with my breville duo temp machine and it works perfectly. Grind is consistent, it's simple to use and it doesn't make a mess. I have heard people say that the grind is not fine enough, I don't have that opinion, I feel that it is just fine enough on the… Read more
turkish setting, any finer and I think it would give it that burnt taste that a lot of people complain about. Making a good cup of coffee is very rarely to do with the machine, it is to do with technique, don't expect each product to perform like the last you owned, you need to tailor it to your own tastes. My coffee is always very creamy, has a wonderfull sweet slightly nutty flavour and never ever tastes burnt.
Pros and cons – I am on my second one. The first stopped working due to a faulty switch- apparently a common problem. However I bought another because it has a couple of great advantages. The main one is that compared to every other grinder I have had, it makes no mess and deposits all of the ground coffee into the container. That is really important to me! It… Read more
is also compact, easy to use and works smoothly. I am thinking of buying another one for home (the one I am referring to is at work) because at home I have an expensive Sunbeam stainless steel thing but it spreads ground coffee everywhere and makes a mess. I wish they could make the switch more reliable.
Good while it lasted – Home use only. Stopped after one year after averaging maybe once per week maybe less (as I have another coffee machine at work). Great while it lasted but would have been happier if I got at least two years out of it. I maintained it well but as it hasn't been pulled apart yet so I'm not sure why it has stopped. I push the breville brand so I am disappointed.
Dodgy wiring – This machine is dodgy. The wiring inside is so bad that the buttons only work every now and again. After a couple of months of trying to get this thing to work I have thrown it away. Don't buy this
A shocker – Both myself and my sister had these machines, hers, just out of warranty, press the start button....nothing!. Now mine has failed exactly the same way. I pulled them apart, the motors are fine, the fault in the PCB. At $45 for a new PCB, is it worth spending the money to have it fail again in a couple of months?
Can't believe the Breville failures! – We bought a Breville 800ES Coffee Maker and BCG450 Grinder in November 2008. The grinder died and the coffee maker stopped pumping within a fortnight of each other in November 2009 - just 12 months after purchase. Breville honoured their warranty, and replaced the grinder, and repaired the maker by January 2010. The new grinder died in… Read more
April 2010, just 3 months old, after making just two hoppers of grounds!
It was repaired by June 2010, and this time lasted almost 4 years, before being found dead when we returned from holidays last week.
However our coffee maker stopped pumping again in December 2011 and had to be repaired once again. We received it back in February 2012 and are keeping our fingers crossed.
The cooperation by Pam Appleby in their Customer Service Department, in having our problems attended to, was absolutely exemplary ... but what has happened to Breville's quality control.
We certainly would not buy Breville again, after having many of their appliances over the years. It made good coffee when it was working. It failed every time we had an extended time away from home, ie seems as though it doesn't like inactivity!
We love ours – We got ours super cheap (only about $70) and we love it. The grind is plenty fine enough for our (now quite old and originally fairly cheap) Krups espresso machine. It grinds into a container which is great for containing mess and keeping the ground coffee a little more fresher if it sits for a bit before being used. It's one of the more compact… Read more
burr grinders which is good as we had only limited space. We use our every morning and most afternoons and we love it. We've only had it about 6 months so I guess time will tell but at $70 I think we've already got our joy from it. compact size, adequatly fine grind, covered container for both beans and ground coffee, simple to use nothing
Not happy!!! – Ours gave up the ghost last weekend 2.5 years old used only twice a week, After 1st week i did some research and found it didnt grinde fine enough for our sunbeam duel thermo block to work properly ,After all utube to the rescue , found out how to get more adjustment for that finer grind ,nearly 1 hour later reasembled ,.the machine has… Read more
various settings but only used my modified
position cheap and affordable at time why should a machine have to be modifyed to do proper job?
Makes me want to cry – Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever purchased in my life. Stopped grinding on the day I purchased it, also doesn't grind properly especially when you have an expensive machine. I work as a barista, bought this for a friend to teach her how to make coffee, along with Sunbeam EM7000. If using a good machine, this isn't suitable. May be suitable for cheaper machines, herbs and spices. Nothing It's terrible

Only used 3 times and no longer grinds – At almost $170 and a breville brand I would expect this machine to last and last. Not even 3 months old and used only 3 times and it will no longer grind. Yes it's still in warranty and yes I will be following that up but do I expect satisfaction- I doubt it! Nice style Stopped grinding after 3 uses!
Rubbish machine – I've had this machine for just over a year, so out of warranty, and it has just stopped working. Limited use less than once a week, so should certainly have lasted better than that. Looks like it's a common problem with this grinder, which was not the cheapest on the market. Quite nice looking piece of equipment which did an ok job for a while. Died after little use.
Piece of Junk – Don't bother wasting your money on this. We used our less than once a week for only 1 year and 10 months before it just stopped working. Now reading other reviews, it seems this is a common problem. Of course the warranty was only good for 12 months. This is what happens when companies like Breville now have everything made in dodgy China. They… Read more
may as well put a label on it that says, "This is junk." OK grind when it worked. Stopped working after limited usage.
Good for cheap machines, bad for good machines – I used one for 2.5 years, 2years with my old cheap machine, and 6 months with my quality machine. I used to think it was ok until it didn't grind fine enough for a 'proper' coffee machine. If you use a $200-400 machine, this product may be ok, but if you use a $1000+ machine, this is a disaster. My start/stop button was faulty after 2.5years so I… Read more
think that's not good enough. I absolutely hated the fact it had to grind into the 'box' and then tip or spoon it into your basket. I think this machine is best left for grinding spices, not coffee.
Sorry I can't recommend this. It's a bit like toilet paper that tears when you need it. Kinda does half the job but you spend more time being angry than happy with it. Better than nothing. Worked well with my cheap machine. Broke after 2.5years so I had to uprade ot a real grinder-thankgod It's not cut for real machines. 2.5 years before faulty switch didnt impress, messy and stupid design grinding into a box with lid
3rd coffee grinder broken! – Thought when originally paying nealry $200 for very first machine that we were buying in the top quality range and thought this machine would last us forever. Just before warranty it was replaced and within 12 months the second one stopped working and again was replaced and the third one is only a few weeks old and again this one has stopped… Read more
working. Will never purchase this product again nor am I going to be bothered in returning it to the store.
1st one the on off switch at the back broke. 2nd one stopped grinding and third one the same as second
Good – Good value, easy to use and quality product with a nice timer to control amount and twist to set. Just needs a better reception container to be a perfect unit. Great value, works perfectly. Poorly designed fragile plastic collection container. It even has a groove in a corner that collects coffee grinds that spills out when pouring. Stainless steel seems prone to finger staining. Bad – Given it had very limited use and was looked after I would not recommend it. I know products aren't designed to run forever but this thing was hardly used! Does a good job of grinding to the required texture. Looks good and is easy to set up. Used it about 10 times over the last two years and it stopped working. Warranty was for 12 months. $140 down the drain.
good buy – I use my grinder on a regular basis for coffee beans only not for the herbs. It does a great job, it grounds the coffee nice and fine when on the max setting. the dials are easy to understand It's easy to clean, and i love that the coffee is ground into a container. less mess!! easy to use, cheap. stylish
Cheap and disposable – I got an average of 3 x double shot fine grind coffees per day out of this grinder over a period of 2 years and 5 months. Not bad value, but not great value either. Cheap conical burr grinder and reasonably compact unit Lasted 2 years and 5 months, then the motor got slower and slower.

Good – Great machine and it does what it needs to with the flexibility of changing the grind settings to suit the climate for the optimum extraction of coffee. Nice looking commpanion to my Breville Professional 800 coffee machine. Produces ample amount of grind when entertaining lots of people. Easy to select grind setting by turning the coffee bean… Read more
compartment. The grind catchment container plastic is very thin and flimsy. I'm always wary when cleaning it for fear it will break or snap in my hands. It would be good if it was manufactured with stronger material. Cleaning this is also annoying, there always seems to be a clump of grind left over just after you think you have brushed it all completely. Although I know you can never get it completely clean. I'd know, I used to be a barista - cleaning coffee grinders was never a satisfying job!
Beautiful freshly ground beans every day! – I use mine on a daily basis for coffee beans only and not for the herbs. It does a good job and the settings are easy to understand and thats why i got it. Hasnt missed a beat! With the container it doesnt make as much a mess as the ones that grind straight into the group heads. Easy to understand settings, no mess, like the timer on it.
Good – Great value, easy to use and stylish. I would however ONLY recommend this machine if you are prepared to modify it. Google the model number and find the pdf...from there on in you will have a Burr Grinder about as good as you can get without going for a commercial one. (The modification is easy and takes less than 20 minutes). Good Value, looks… Read more
nice on the bench top, when 'modded' works better than a $500 grinder You need to modify the machine before you can get a consistant grind and one fine enough to get a good shot of the black stuff
Bad – have only used this product for coffee beans it is not a satisfactory product it does not achieve a satisfactory fine grind. poor design especially flimsy ground coffee receptical. not easy to clean. pay more for a better machine with functional capability. poor value for money. have been generally satisfied with the breville brand prior to this… Read more
purchase and found breville quality better than sunbeam for comparable products at this price point. the machine does not achive a fine grind at the max seting -turkish. ground coffee receptical is flimsy and of poor design. i find it to have been a waste of money. difficult to clean lower conical burr. poor value
Excellent – Great grinder, Choice review was spot on with the quality of the unit. Easy to operate and clean, and being able to set the time allows you not to have to watch whilst grinding. Fantastic grind, fine enough for my espresso machine, but with the ability to do course for plunger coffee when on holidays! Easy to load beans, and grinds bin big enough… Read more
and good shape to tip coffee straight into filter basket. Only thing is when cleaning, can't get to the grinds right down in the machine, and so there is always a bit let inside an otherwise clean machine. Oh, and there is a little bit of mess if you knock the machine taking the bin out from grinds falling from the filling chute.
Good – Have had this machine for about 6 months now, and have used it daily except when I've gone away on holiday (sadly not that much). Have found that it produces a good grind for both the electric coffee machine and the stovetop. Can't get it to grind quite fine enough for my liking for a Turkish coffee, but this is a very small issue. The other tiny… Read more
quibble is that I almost always end up with a few grinds on the benchtop when removing the bin to get the end product. Just means I have wipe the benchtop each time I use it. Good capacity (for when you've got a stack of people over), ease of use etc. Cleaning is a bit of a nuisance - always seem to end up with some grinds that don't get into the appropriate receptacle.
