Works really well for 11 months – We loved this toaster until it stopped working after 11 months. We returned it to Myers who replaced it with another. The replacement also worked well for another 11 months until it failed to turn on. We have now returned it to Myer who are happy to supply us with another. I find it difficult to rate as when it works its good but both toasters have lasted only 11 months. Fortunately still covered by warrenty. Show details
Can't Toast, Can't Work – First one did a very average job of cooking toast for 3 months then the smoke came out (element burnt out), second one lasted 10 days and died from a different fault (earth leakage).. So yeah, Breville (or the factory they subcontract to in China) have dropped in quality massively Plus it really couldn't cook toast anyway, even on 4 it'd come out barely toasted around the edges. Did not work after 15 months – It was a great toaster for 15 months , then I wasn’t. Left side of machine shuts my power off in my house. Which is disappointing because I’m a big fan of Breville products. I also purchased the 2 slice one on same day so far so good.

All form no substance – I'm an idiot - I should have been wary from the negative reviews on this site. The toaster isn't worth $100 and my misses, rightly so, gives it to me when it frustrates us. The big issue is that the down lever needs about 4+ goes to get it to stick down and 1 in 8 times it will pop back up within 5 seconds. Breville - you've just made toasting… Read more
difficult - it's hard to buy your toasters as there's so many model numbers but little/no differentiating headlines on the box eg 'cool to touch plastic case with 4 slots' c/w 'fashionable stainless steel with 4 slots'
The manual lift and look is a farce, it hardly comes up
I don't trust the Crumpet nor Little bit more setting - great ideas but not delivering.
Truly, this seems like a really inconsistent product - and what does this say about all Breville products? It's not cheap by any means so I can say you don't get what you pay for.
I'm going back to Sunbeam when I finally lose it and give this toaster a wake up tap it won't recover from
Great toaster. Love the frozen bread feature – I like this toaster. It looks very impressive on the worktop. It is very well built and has nice switches and indicator lights. The cooking-level slider on the front is very robust and easy to read, however I have found I knock it fairly frequently and sometimes forget to check it before use. It would have been nice if this was recessed… Read more · 1
slightly. The body of the toaster is a very solid die-cast aluminum casting which remains cool to touch. It looks very sturdy. I never use the lift-and-look feature, simply because once you know your desired setting there is no need to check progress.
Once you pick a cooking-level the resulting toast is consistently cooked to the same level each time and it's nice and evenly cooked across it entire surface. It can handle fairly large chucks of bread, for instance a 1" slice off a bloomer would fit no bother.
I like the fact that it beeps when it's finished, which means I can be getting ready for work and know exactly when it's popped-up rather than finding out it had finished a few minutes earlier and is now cold.
The frozen button is good because it allows you to put slices of bread directly from the freezer into the toaster and it cooks them perfectly with no intervention.
Let's be honest, it's pricey for a toaster. But if, like me, you only have a toaster and a kettle constantly on display on the work top (less used items are stashed in cupboards) then it's more of a style item really. Build quality, frozen bread feature, style of it. Fairly pricey and I keep knocking the slider on the front.
Love this toaster – We bought our toaster in August 2011 & fell in love with it immediately. Everyone that visited us commented on how great it was. Best toast, crumpets ever. We loved the high lift feature, especially as we use sourdough bread which is very low top, the toast would nearly pop out onto the plate. Unfortunately in May 2012 the toaster became… Read more
faulty.
When we used it it shorted & cut out our power. we were so disappointed.
We were lucky to still have a couple of months left on our warranty so was able to return it.
We agonised over what to replace it with. We were not trusting enough to buy the same toaster.
No other company makes the same feautures as this toaster has, especially the high rise lift option.
We ended up settling for a Sunbeam which promoted the high lift option. We used the sunbeam for a couple of days & found it to be very badly designed.
We then had to decide what to do. Sunbeam would not exchange the toaster so we ended up buying the Breville again.
We figured that it was such a great toaster that we would have many happy toasting experiences with it and if it died we would take it back & replace it again. So far so good.
Congratulations Breville on designing a toaster that caters for all types of bread. Love it. This toaster is an excellent design. The features all work perfectly. Caters for all bread types. Love it Electrical fault after only 8 months, shorted are power supply.

Watch out for wayward Sultanas / Raisins etc – I love this toaster. It toast very evenly and I know all the settings I need for the Frozen / fresh breads I use. Had it for about 9 months I think. Anyway this morning I went to toast a second piece of raisin bread and Pop! Circuit tripped as soon as I hit the go button. Reset the safety switch and tried again in case it was just a fluke and… Read more
POP again.
OK to I look at the toaster and can see the cause straight away. The sultanas in the bread are very plump and juicy and one of them had been left behind wedged against the cooking element and the inner grate that holds the toast. That inner great would be grounded for safety, so this was a direct short.
I Unplugged the toaster and remove the offending plump fruit short and we are back in business. I am currently enjoying perfectly cooked Fruit Bread. :-)
Great toaster – Have had this toaster for about 2 weeks now. Loving the 'little bit more' and 'lift and look' options as well as the crumpet option. We also bake our own bread, so fits in wide and long slabs of bread which is great. Only con is that I wish it lifted the toast a bit higher or at least had a high lift option. Show details
No problems – I blew the old Woolworths toaster I had. I bought this what I consider an expensive toaster. Does it work? Yes very well Does it do crumpets? Yes very well Does it toast bread? Yep! Is it good? Yes it is. Very good in fact Is it difficult to use? EASY! I am very happy with this toaster Show details

A lot of money for less than 2 years – Less than 2 years old and one whole slot died and the other half went weak, looks to be a common issue looking at some of them he other reviews on here. Will be looking for a different brand now I think. Surely a toaster that expensive should work a bit longer than that. Show details
Doesn't toast properly – Toasts one side. Cant work out correct setting . Couldnt find receipt. Put up with it. Fruit toast burns. Smoke alarm goes off.. using cheap old toaster now. Money down the drain . Wonder if cost a lot to return it? My husband saw one on the rubbish pile once.☹ Keep receipt safe, try it , return if no good Show details
Great! Except it doesn’t toast – We paid top dollar for a toaster and it burns edges without roasting the middle. Lucky it has lift and look because I have to hit that button half way through and changes sides if I want it to toast evenly. I’ve had it for a while but it never toasted right from day one. I’m leaving this review to help people stay away from expensive toasters that don’t do their job properly. So disappointing Show details

Failed within two years – Worked ok for 18 months. Only used on weekends, so not heavy use. Now one slot has stopped working completely, and the rmeining slot is weak, ie toast not browning (helgas multigrain, not frozen) very much. Called breville as considered service life of less than two years not fit for purpose, but they weren't interested. Would recommend another brand than breville for toasters. Show details
Fantastic toaster – There are many toasters on the market but this Breville toasters days and does what it is meant to. The crumpet feature us brilliant not just for crumpets but for thick raisin toast as well. The way you can have a look at the toast and then if it's not done to your liking you can push a button and it toasts a bit more. Cannot recommend highly enough. Show details
Awful – Hello from America. I stumbled onto to this site looking for a place to complain about the Breville BTA630. In the States it's known as the XL model and the "crumpet" setting is a "bagel" setting in which side A toasts more slowly than side B. The same things that are wrong with this model are also true here as well - the heating elements not… Read more
heating, toast is actually cool, not hot, the edges burn and the inside is untoasted, excessive time is needed to toast a heavier corn muffin or bread (you can just about complete a chess game....), the clicking noises made when the bread is captured by the device and will not let go - just keeps cooking until it burns and sets off the smoke detector, etc. Their are blown sockets this side of the Atlantic as well. You'd probably need a dedicated circuit (!!!) to get this thing to work w/out safety hazard. I bought mine at Macys (probably similar to your Meyers).
Can't fault it - a Rolls Royce of the toasters for me – Had this toaster for about six months now and it is just perfect. We paid more than we did for any toaster in the past, but it was money well spent. It never missed a beat and the toasts are perfect every time. Love the Lift and Look feature and the fine adjustments. Show details · 1
Stopped working after less than 6 months. Breville won't help to replace with same model – I loved this toaster - until it stopped working after less than 6 months (one slot did not heat up at all). Myer don't sell the model any more so can't order one in to replace it with the same toaster. Breville keep on insisting that they can order it & won't help me. Their customer service staff are rude & unhelpful. Show details
It's a ripper – Hubby announced we needed a new toaster. "Alright" I told him "you go and buy one". So off he went doing the rounds of the various stores. After a couple of hours he rang to tell me he had found "the one" BUT, the big but, it was red. "Not a problem" I told him as the coffee machine is red the toaster will match. So he arrived home with the… Read more · 1
toaster and offered it for my inspection. I was delighted to find the operating buttons were at the front instead of the side like the old and got knocked while it was being taken out or put away. We then found it very easy to use and clearly labeled. It toasts crumpets just right and they don't get stuck as in the old one, you really can lift and look and I love the "a bit more" function. This time hubby was quite right, he did indeed find "the one".
Ghosts toast – For the price of this toaster it is absolute rubbish. If it doesn't cook your toast it burns it. If it does not cook your bread you have to re cook it numerous times until the bread is that dry it's not worth eating. I can not justify another toaster so have to deal with the over priced rubbish. A good toaster, somewhat gimmicky – We purchased this toaster about two years ago and it's still doing a good job. The mechanical lift function is cool but a bit gimmicky considering the whole 'lift and look' function takes 5-10 seconds to do compared with a traditional toaster. But it has toasted consistently and has a nice build quality about it. Show reply
Sounds fancy but it's not – Dang thing blew up after two years. Not good enough for such an expensive model! We didn't realise this was a touch button toaster when we bought it. The absence of a leaver was only a problem a couple of times when something got stuck and the toaster just kept going up and down trying to get it out. Had to turn it off and extract the offending bread piece using gravity.

Great functions - poor delivery – Similar issues to others. However, the main one being that it shorted somehow and tripped our mains power. After re-setting our mains we find that one side of the toaster no longer works. Unfortunately as this is our SECOND toaster to fail like this we apparently cannot get another. Wife was told we need to have a surge protector. This is… Read more
new, never had to have a surge protector on a toaster before...
We have gone back to a $30 toaster. Its a shame because i love the wide design of this one allowing crumpets and wide bread.
Good concept but does not work, twice – I would have thought that buying a $100 toaster would give me nicely toasted bread. But I was very wrong. the bread is hardly even brown or burns but it only cooks on one side. when looking into the toaster as it is toasting, only a few of the filaments are actually working. This is the second toaster as i returned the first toaster which was… Read more
doing the same thing. come on Breville sort this issue out. Its a good concept but it doesn't work and mine obviously isn't the only one, sorry two.
I had high hopes – I convinced my husband that we needed a more expensive toaster than his Kmart one, so purchased the BTA630. I have been so disappointed. It burns one side of the toast unless I turn it mid cycle. Toasts unevenly from every angle. It is so frustrating. Would never recommend it.
Doesn't miss a beat – I bought a similar Breville model from Target and it kept shorting out our power. It seemed to be a problem experienced by other reviewers so I wasn't sure I should stick with a Breville toaster. I'm glad I did. This toaster hasn't skipped a beat after nearly 6 months of daily use. It's easy to get consistent results once you've worked out your… Read more
personal preference and the progress bar lets you know how long before the toast should be ready. I often use the 'a bit more' function as well as 'lift and look'. We haven't used the crumpet or fruit toast settings so can't comment on that.
I should also mention that although Target couldn't replace our first toaster because it was out of stock, Breville and Target arranged a refund straight away without any drama. I bought this model from Myer.
Disasterous toaster – Terrible element design on this toaster. Outside rim and crust of bread burns black before centre of bread is toasted. Bread size/type/brand makes no difference, same shocking result, smoke everywhere if not monitored. Fresh or frozen bread achieves same dangerous result, fire looks distinctly possible. Worst toaster I have ever used!! Be careful.
big white flash from the toaster and it then tripped the power circuit – Using my first BREVILLE BTA 635 there was a big white flash from the toaster and it then tripped the power circuit. I hadn't read this webisite so I took it back to Myer who replaced with another. One slot on this one does not work at all. The other slot works - sort of. Myer are out of stock and have ordered another one - due next week. Now that… Read more
I've read these reviews here I'm not so sure I want to try a third one - too dangerous! My previous ordinary Breville toaster worked for just 3yrs. The one before that worked fine for about 15 years - this one is a nightmare and cost me a lot of time going back to the store - my time is money Breville! Given the cost ($99) of this deluxe model toaster I expected better. What was I thinking spending $99 on a toaster? And now it turns out to be a lemon. Seems like toasters are now built with programmed obsolescence.
Lasted just over a year then shorted out and tripped the power – Worked fine for a couple of months before the lights started to randomly flash on the front panel and slide bar. After a year it started tripping the power circuit just outside warranty, tried the toaster on other power points, same thing so now its now in landfill, waste of money..
Only lasted two months; expect better than this – This 'Lift and Look' toaster had light use for only two months then suddenly began shorting out the entire house. We checked it with multiple power points, checked other appliances at those same points and determined it was the toaster causing the power failures. For a relatively expensive appliance bought at a reputable store, two months is just not good enough. Very disappointed with Breville. Will be demanding a refund.

Toast My Home Made Bread in a Breeze – I originally bought the side by side four slice toaster and it was brilliant. So brilliant, that the ex walked out with it when he moved out. I sure missed that toaster. I've now got the long four slice lift and look and I'm actually happier with this one. It can accomodate super long bread and all my weirdly shaped home made bread. I love… Read more
the buttons and the lift and look feature and the little bit more. Really great. I've been using this for over a year now and it doesn't miss a beat. Yummy, yummy toast.
Really no negs I can think of although I wish there was a way to get all the crumbs out that haven't landed in the crumb tray. Standard toaster problem for me though. Crumbs drive me batty.
Disappointed – I bought this toaster in Dec 2013 and have been pretty happy with it , but of course just 6 weeks out of warranty the toaster has stopped toasting on one side. It has had very light use for a family, only being used a couple times a week. It shouldn't have broken down so quickly and I suspect this is what has shorted my house, when the toaster, oven and microwave have all been in use. Disappointed to say the least!
Doesn't last – The element on our old Breville went after 2+ years - we foolishly bought another which started producing a burning plastic smell after 18 months or so. Reading some of these reviews, I'm glad I chucked it out straight away! I would be prepared to spend $100 on a new toaster that is safe & reliable but reviews suggest that maybe it is a false dream.
Dont buy this model – I dont normally write reviews but i have to on this particular toaster. When we went to use this for the first time, the lever would not stay down. Called Breville customer service and they were very helpful and gave me a customer ref number to go back to good guys in mornington and replace it, which I was happy to do. toaster and after a week or two of using it, it started to make a hissing/spitting noise when the bread was down and it only toasted one side properly. I thought it just needed to cool down, but after two hours I tried again to test it and the lever doesn't go down and it was just "dead". You don't get much customer service the second time around so avoid this product

Saddly – Initially loved this toaster. Great functions and ease of use. BUT the element on one side failed after less then 9 months of light use. One person daily. The remaining element takes forever to toast heavy breads such as sour doughs and rye. Sadly I am now looking for a replacement that works. Functions and ease if use Element failure and slow on heavy breads
