Inferior product – Purchased this product on 23/4/2024 after reading reviews on The Good Guys website site. Only cooks half the sandwich the rest comes out soggy. Takes forever to heat up then the green light keeps going out during the cooking process. Also, trying to purchase the larger size bread to fit the appliance is another problem. Have never bought such… Read more
an inferior product like this before. DO NOT waste your money on this product. Will most certainly make sure I read reviews on Product Reviews only from now on.
Don't buy – I haven't used it a whole lot but already the non stick coating is falling off. Sometimes it is stuck to the bread. I am not comfortable using it anymore as I am worried about me and my family ingesting the non stick coating, and I am sure we already have!. I have tried to contact the company but the process is inconvenient that you ultimately… Read more
give up. I grew up with a Breville sandwich maker and never had any issues and mum probably still has it. Its a shame they no longer make it like they use too. So don't bother spending the money.
Weird size – Most here are commenting on the poor nonstick surface, but my problem is that the area is too big. I'm using standard sized loafs but the pressing area is much larger than the slice so the edges of the of the sandwich never get sealed. I have no idea where to get larger loafs from. So for now my filling is gonna keep falling out. Show details

Lunch made easy – Buying this 'toastie maker' was more about introducing the kids to what I considered to be the pinnacle of sandwiches, when mum made them for me when I was growing up. Interestingly, not much had changed over the years, and I was surprised to learn that there is no sound indicating that when the sandwich is finished. You simply need to 'watch &… Read more
wait'.
The other downside is the fragility of the non-stick surface. Although being ultra careful, I still managed to put a good sized scratch into it with a knife, which is required most of the time when molten the cheese refuses to budge. I would suggest that Breville should supply a wooden or plastic instrument designed specifically for this purpose.
The negatives aside though, the unit is cheap and the sandwich experience is priceless. The kids love using it, and they will often make themselves lunch, allowing us adults to go out and do our thing.
Given the price, the ease and fun of making great tasting sandwiches, I would recommend this as a 'must have' in every kitchen. Not for the build quality, but rather for the experience as indicated above.

Great when not sticking – My kids love a toastie and this machine works great in the beginning. Ham and cheese toastie is the go to in my family and for about a month it is great. It’s very easy to use. The toast doesn’t get stuck and it’s easy to clean with a damp paper towel. It cooks evenly and they taste delicious. However after a month of use and careful cleaning… Read more
after every use the bread just gets stuck. I butter the outside of the bread each time and have even tried cooking spray, oil and no matter what I use it is a nuisance to clean. I’m on my 3 machine in less than a year as I just get sick of the time it takes to clean it. I know it’s a waste and I do feel bad as it isn’t environmentally friendly to throw something out so I have come to the realisation that as great as the machine works within a month of use it really is impossible to clean. It could be that it just doesn’t like cheese. I have also tried different brands and kinds but to no avail.
Positive reviews
The original and the best – What is there to say? It’s a great unit, always gets used a lot. Cleaning is easy but removable plates would make it much easier. But for a no frills sandwich maker look no further. Show details
Deeper casting design for more fillings = Australia's best buy – Perfect results everytime for all your family's,quick & easy toasted sandwich treats , just use plastic, silicone or wooden utensils to remove cooked sandwich, never use metal utensils because they will scratch and remove the non-stick coating, i use my BTS200 mostly for all mushy and runny fillings eg… Read more
[backedbeans/cheese,spaghetti/cheese,macaroni-pasta,savory mince, mashed potato etc ] because it seals all edges and cuts in half for easier & safer food handling [kids - elderly etc] , plus i use the Breville "BIG ONE" BTS100 Jaffle maker for most other fillings to create perfect super thick heavy "uncut" toasted sandwiches [Jaffles] when a greater variety of different fillings are required.
Simply the best – Better than any other toastie maker I've ever used. Toasts, cuts, melts, cooks, no sogginess. It's quick. It's perfect. I had the same machine for 6 years. I used it so much I needed another. Will never use any other toastie maker. I will always recommend the original and the best. Show details
Negative reviews
We all know where they are made – The same as everyone else. Bought one about 12 months ago. The first few times it was fine but it soon started sticking so badly that you destroyed your sandwich trying to remove it. Had a 12 month warranty, so I returned it. Same thing with the next one. Just tried to make a sandwich now, machine is going in the bin. I have a sunbeam sandwich press and while it doesn't make them as tasty, no Teflon coming off in years. Show details
The surface is chipping away - as per other reviews – As per other reviews here: After minimal use, and using Teflon-safe cleaning methods (paper towel and sponges) sandwiches are sticking and full of black metallic flakes - tasty. Show details
Terrible – Waste of money. Sandwiches always stick fall apart. I’ve tried using more butter more filling, less filling. Never any good I even tried spraying it with oil spray Still sticks . Don’t waste your money. Show details

Very disappointed – I had the original breville sandwich maker for years and I loved it but it finally died. Because I love them so much and it served me well I purchased another only to have the non stick coating chipping off and the toasted sticking so I thought I just brought a dud, I got rid of that one and purchased another, it worked wonderful for awhile and I… Read more
even used a plastic utensil to get the toastie out so I wouldn’t damaged the surface but alas it finally started sticking. I made a toastie today and it stuck so badly on the bottom and the cutting edge that I ended up with a mangled sandwich. I will never buy again and I will never recommend this product to anyone. I’ll do my research for a new non breville sandwich maker. This use to be a fabulous product, not anymore. Cheap and crap.
Breville used to be a trusted, iconic brand – Like so many others that have reviewed this toastie maker, I have been extremely disappointed with the rapid failure of the non-stick coating and the uneven cooking between the top and bottom plates. It seems Breville have found themselves a low-grade manufacturer to churn out these machines, and quality is now a distant memory. It is so sad… Read more
that a once iconic Australian brand has come to this. Their products used to last decades. But this unit is now destined for landfill after only a couple of uses. My trust in the company has gone.

The actual 'Original' was much better – When the locking clip on the handle of my Breville Sandwich Press broke I had to buy a replacement unit as I couldn't source just the clip. Because it had functioned really well for several years I bought another Breville, the 'Original' BTS200. Unlike my original unit this one actually 'cuts' each sandwich into 2 triangles. Well, that's what… Read more
it's supposed to do! I followed the 'BEFORE FIRST USE' instructions, I read and followed the 'HINTS AND TIPS' and the 'CARE AND CLEANING' information, I bought and used large square sliced bread and ... it sticks every time! The first time, after carefully extracting the mangled toastie I meticulously cleaned the cooking plates and then 'seasoned' them, as per the instruction booklet. Next use, two stuck and mangled toasties. Play the above scenario on repeat! Repeat! Repeat!
Old one was much better – Sandwiches stick to it, doesn't cut properly and doesn't cook the top sandwich properly before the bottom one burns. My old sandwich maker did a better job. Haven't used it much because not satisfied with it Show details
Terrible! – Wish I had read these reviews before buying my Breville sandwich maker in January. I had a very, very old one for more than 20, maybe 30 years ( lost in bushfires) so naturally went straight to Breville again when on sale at Woolworths. But it is awful. After just a few uses the non stick fails and the toasted sandwiches stick to the diagonal… Read more
cutting edge. It adheres to the top and you have to prise it off, ruining your toastie and often losing the filling. It can be quite difficult even to open the machine when ready because of the way the bread sticks to the top. The machine then becomes hard to clean because the burnt bread is stuck to the cutting edge. With the old one, I could just wipe it over with a paper towel. Only 4 months old, this machine is headed for the bin.
Worse than useless -5stars – I've finally decided to do what I should have done months ago and chuck this useless appliance in the bin where it belongs. I cannot believe a renown company like Breville would market such a unusable product without fully testing it. Non stick, what a joke, just try using one.
Non stick is not non stick – This sandwich maker is terrible. It sticks to the sandwich across the diagonal lines and the sandwich falls to bit when you try to get it out of the toaster. Takes too long to clean sandwich filling off the toaster. My brother-in-law has a much better non stick one bought from Aldi. Do not purchase this product. Show details
Complete and utter rubbish – Bread sticks after first use. Non stick is an out right lie. Waste of food and money. Crumbly dry in edible mess is what you end up with. Breville used to provide quality products. Oh how things have changed. Obviously zero quality control, zero care factor and false advertising. The product does not perform as promised. Very dissatisfied and… Read more
disappointed. Shame on you Breville. Over the years you have lost your sole and good reputation. I will never purchase another Breville product again.
Non-stick is now a term that is apparently open to interpretation – The non-stick coating lasted approximately three uses! This device has become a non-viable food preparation option. The bread bonds so securely to the diagonal cutter that the sandwich is pulled apart when you open the wretched device. We've tried butter, olive oil (but not spray!), margarine etc. before use to mitigate the adhesiveness of the… Read more
food materials to the surface but to no avail. Making a toastie now involves an unjustifiable investment of time due to the industrial cleaning process needed after each use. It is so new that the dodgy plastic clip at the front hasn't had a chance to snap. Non-stick???....Extra-stick I say. Sadly we can only recommend this product to people we don't like.
"You have one job" – Picture tells the story. Everytime. Coated in butter or not. The toast becomes stuck and very hard to get off. Absolute crap. The good old days are no more when it comes to quality. Show details
Great at first – As per other reviewers, we’d previously owned a Breville sandwich press for YEARS. It finally gave up so went with Breville again. Was terrific......at first. But within a couple of months the sandwiches are now sticking and you can’t remove them without ruining the sandwich. Not only that, but it sticks to the top plate causing the contents of… Read more
the sandwich to leak out as you try to (unsuccessfully) peel the sandwich away from the plate. I can no longer get the plates clean between meals. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. It’s clearly an issue that needs to be addressed. Feeling a bit lost as to what to buy now!

Non stick crap – First couple of times it was perfect, then sandwich's started to stick to top cutting edges. On checking non stick surface was pitting and coming away from cutting blades. Persisted for a couple of months but have now thrown it in the bin, as I cannot remove sandwich without pulling it to pieces. Show details
Non-stick coating doesn't stick – Scratches, even with careful use, will happen as the non-stick coating comes off. It seems my issue is the same as many customers. I purchased from jbhifi and within 6mths it was ready for recycling. I also grew up with a jaffle machine that lasted over 6 years. Breville, can you hear us? There is something fault y about your product. Show details
Hasn't lasted a year and is unusable – I previously had a Breville toastie maker that lasted over 15 years and was very happy with it. When it came time to replace, I didn't hesitate to go with the same brand. However, this new once hasn't even lasted a year and is pretty much unusable. The black coating started pealing almost immediately, and now sandwiches constantly have the… Read more
black residue and they get stuck and ripped apart. Even the green light cover fell out. Really disappointed after so many good years with old one.
Absolute Shocker – Does not crisp sandwiches like the original. Doesn't cut sandwiches properly. Filling goes everywhere and sandwich sticks to the Teflon coating, which I might add started coming off after a short time of owning this one. Grew up on the original and it was great. This one a total flop. Looking to change brands. Show details
If you ever see this for sale don't! – I have just thrown out this sandwich maker because it took longer to clean than to eat the sandwiches. The black coating was starting to come off in small spots despite careful cleaning. So I was eating not only the sandwiches but the coating as well, how nice. Finding bread to fit this machine is problematic. Sandwiches come apart when you open… Read more
up the machine despite buttering the bread properly. I noticed it is a great weight gainer too. I am so disappointed in this purchase. Thanks Breville not.
Coating is terrible – I have it only for maybe 2 month. Upgraded at BigW from the terrible $9. The cutting edges on the middle lost Teflon coating after only a few uses. When you open sandwich maker it will pull the top slice of brad up making just a mess and nothing what would re-assemble sandwich... cleaning this sticky mess is an extra challenge. Show details
Teflon flaked off – Disappointed in the longevity of the teflon. I have had a few Brevilles over the years and those were good quality. The teflon (as other reviews mention) flaked off in the center after a couple of months of light use. Won't buy again Show details
Terrible – Exactly as stated on other reviews. Teflon comes off, you can’t get sandwich out as it sticks in the middle. Paid good money for a better quality but clearly not the case. Do not buy. Show details
Do not buy! – We've had ours for 13 months, and for most of its life, the toastie maker has been bad. The bread sticks to the middle cutting bits, so we have to pull the toastie apart and cut the stuck bits off in order to remove it from the toastie maker. This happens even when we follow the instructions to the letter. To make matters worse, the non-stick… Read more
coating is peeling off even though the product is relatively new.
I never had these problems with older models.
Do not buy!
Failure of Teflon non-stick surface – Our first Breville jaffle unit was in our families possession for over 40 years until it was stolen. The Teflon surface had remained perfect and scratch free over that time, so you must understand that we take care of our items. I had this unit for a little over 11 months before the Teflon started to chip away and making sandwiches became… Read more
virtually impossible, requiring you to find the sharpest knife you can find to pry them out.
The non-stick coating is coming off of the centre knife section, often easy enough to remove by fingernail. I've tried to forcefully damage other sections of the hot-plate and the rest of the coating is bullet-proof, it's obviously a bonding issue in the industrial process. It looks like the Teflon has run and laid on too thick.
Someone said they had a newer unit that had the same problem and the newer designs are expensive and bulky, so I haven't looked in to replacing it.
September 3rd 2019 Update: DO NOT BUY! Teflon surface failed AGAIN!
This is the second review I've left for this model. I thought because they had revamped the model that maybe the issues would have been fixed, BOY was I wrong!
The exact same thing happened to this unit. Sandwiches started to stick after two months, after four the non-stick surface is chipping again! It is now basically useless and it's only coming up to 5 months of use, it only makes 8 lots of sandwiches a month!
I only use teflon safe tools with this unit, I am not the cause of this damage. I followed all instructions perfectly! On top of this the surface of an older jaffle iron from breville I picked up from an OP shop as a temporary replacement is STILL COMPLETELY FINE!!
It is definitely one of the revamped models and not just old stock as it features the larger sized plates and new shape plastic body.
Furthermore they've lowered their warranty to only one year (I wonder why). These products are scams and I am reporting this to the ACCC like I did the last one.
If you have one of these breville models and they won't refund it, report the store to the ACCC!
Genuinely considering dumping $500 worth of breville appliances down at the OP shop because I don't want to be apart of a brand that scams people like this. Just get rid of these failed models already and stop ripping people off!!
Absolute rubbish – I received this as a Christmas gift so I don't have a receipt, but the unit hasn't been used a lot and the sandwiches stick to the so called non stick coating. Today I noticed the non stick coating is flaking off and due to the health hazards of ingesting Teflon, I have decided to stop using it. Breville should be ashamed for producing such… Read more
rubbish - didn't even last 1 year. This pile of garbage if going to the tip and as someone who has always purchased Breville, from kettles to toasters and even a waffle maker, I will never buy or recommend breville again!
Love this – We use this all the time, it makes decent size sandwiches and you can fit so many fillings inside, it also accommodates the larger slices of bread which are a must for toasties. My only complaint would be that they don’t make one that could make 4 sandwiches at a time. Show details
Not much chop but Possible redemption – Sticks, like everyone else seems to be having trouble with. My wife was going to bin it, but my son came up with a solution that seems to work pretty well. Cut your bread diagonally, put your triangles in and make 4 mini sandwiches. OK, sometimes it still leaks and I have to clean it, but it sure beats the results that occur when I use whole slices.
