camera, a pouch and a memory card.

The next day (Sunday), when the shop was closed, I discovered that the camera was a model, Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 which was identical in appearance, but which had a 3.1 times zoom lens instead of a zoom of 10 times. I therefore did not use it but returned the contents to the box.

On Monday 29 August I rang the shop and explained the error to “[name removed]”, asking if I could return the camera and get the DMC-TZ110 model, for which I was willing to pay the extra $60.00. He refused stating that:-

1. On the phone I had requested the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100, not the DMC-TZ110 model. (I believe this to be almost impossible, given that I was reading the model number I wanted from their webpage).

2. As the box had been opened and I had handled the camera, it could not be regarded as new. (This was despite the fact that I had been allowed to open the box and handle the camera before purchase in the shop).

3. It was not in line with their policy. (At no stage was their policy on returns drawn to my attention).

$100 less on their website, call up and ask about it, am told its a factory rebate offer they never knew about until Monday morning (yeah ok) and cannot do anything about it as they already sent their list of sales for the week to the factory?!?! wow so camera shops inform the suppliers every week of their sales...

Then the website updates to show a general sale on ALL lenses for this week, as part of their "5 weeks to Christmas sale" !!

So lies about the factory rebate, and pretty much lies all round for the sake of $100/their goodwill.

Sure they don't "have" to do anything about the fact I paid $100 more for an item 3 days before they put it on sale... I can say when this has happened in the past the shop was more than willing to adjust the price or offer a store credit, and they got repeat business often for years on, plus the word of mouth recommendations are priceless.

CamBuy will never get a cent from me again, and they will never get a positive recommendation either.

Retailers should understand that customers these days are hard to come by with all the competition out there, and a customer who spends large amounts on single items is often the go to guy for others thinking about a purchase and who know little about the subject/products.

If you want peace of mind when purchasing expensive items choose someone with a solid returns policy and an owner who actually cares about his customers and doesn't see them as mere cash cows.

particular model and my elderly dog is dying so I was desperate to get my camera ASAP. I rang Canon and they said nothing could be done, checked a couple of retailers and they were sold out – I thought I'd missed my chance to own this model camera and would have to research other cameras and try to find something else as good as the discontinued model I wanted, all the time desperately hoping my dog wouldn't die before I had the chance to take photos of her.

Gary from Cambuy had sent me an email re the unexpected failure of Canon to deliver further stock and offered a generous discount on the updated model and to update the warranty I'd bought for free (the new model pushed it over the $500 category) but it was still unaffordable for me to pay any difference (they also offered a full refund – not store credit – if I wanted this). I read the email after Cambuy was closed for the day, but Gary called me first thing the next morning and was extremely apologetic even though this was not Cambuy's fault at all. He was also extremely compassionate about my situation and understood I needed a camera ASAP for my dog, so he went to the effort of finding the same model from another retailer who still had some stock, had his wife and baby travel to personally purchase it (at a financial loss for Cambuy as that retailer's price was at least $60 more) and ensured it was sent that same day. I am stunned and so incredibly appreciative of Cambuy's generosity and compassion! :)

I chose to buy from Cambuy because they have fantastic prices on their cameras and accessories, however there was another Canon authorised reseller that did have the camera for a slightly better price (but their accessories were not as competitively priced) but their customer service was terrible – email only, no phone number, late responses etc. But Cambuy were easy to phone and I did – on a few occasions, where they gave me advice on an SD card, comprehensively answered my questions and were very helpful and knowledgeable, and generally made me feel valued and important to them even though I hadn't even committed to purchasing from them. This kind of customer service is invaluable so I made the (very wise) choice to spend just $23 more buying from them. Their website is also very easy to navigate which I always appreciate. :)

I can not express how extraordinarily happy I am I chose to buy from Cambuy – still got the 2nd cheapest price, but more importantly when something unexpected and not their fault happened Cambuy took full responsibility and resolved the issue immediately and beyond all my expectations! I know I will have fantastic ongoing customer service, and Gary and Hiro are so friendly and pleasant to deal with I'll never feel nervous about ringing them like I do with larger businesses that try to rush through your questions, and will often say anything even if it means giving incorrect advice just to 'get rid of you' as quickly as possible.

I will never purchase a camera anywhere else and intend to recommend Cambuy far and wide. Not just great prices but really exceptional customer service: thank you so much Cambuy! :)

Pentax WG-3 GPS, outdoing *every* competitor in Australia by about $30. Exceptional.

Second, within hours of ordering, they let me know that the product had to be shipped from a distributor and it was going to take about 2 weeks, despite their website saying "Usually ships within 2-3 days". Disappointing right? Well.. yes and no. These things happen of course, they can't know for certain how long every single product will take to reach them from every distributor. Whilst I wish it was a little clearer that the product was not actually in stock, it's a minor flaw, and I have no doubt that if I'd simply shot off an email confirming the "Usually" part of "Usually ships within 2-3 days" I'd have received a candid, cordial email within hours if not minutes, because...

... Thirdly, the company representative I had the immense pleasure of dealing with, has been absolutely outstanding dealing with my disappointment that the shipping time was going to be longer than I presumed. The first thing they offered to do was provide a refund if I couldn't wait. Offered, not had to be asked.

Following on, he patiently, and in detail, and explained the delay honestly. No shifting blame (either to the supplier or to myself, who is quite capable of comprehending what the word "usually" means, no anything except an apology, a straightforward explanation including a transparent overview of internal operating procedure, and the offer to provide a refund due to the delay.

He declined to price match the same camera I found cheaper overseas, but agreed to price match the SD card that I found cheaper elsewhere. So all in all, I was probably a very difficult customer, but he represented his company outstandingly in my opinion. Enough for me to want to write a short essay about this company anyway.

Fantastic stuff cambuy, I look forward to doing business with you again.

After a month of waiting and replies like "sorry stock in transit" and "short supply" I went to a local shop and just bought the camera (every camera shop in my town already had that camera at that moment) Of course I decided to cancel the order but got a reply "we never promised to ship in February", and "we are unable to cancel your preorder before the delay is unreasonably long". Unable? 2 months is REASONABLE? really?

So after another month of "reasonable long delay" I got full refund.

CamBuy - All I can say is don't trust them – Money has been taken from credit card straight after the order and after 3+ days of nothing I called them and then they tell me I used the wrong credit card and need to refund my money in 3 more days and in the mean time place the order again using another credit card. Money was refunded right away after I threatened to place a Cashback through Paypal and call credit card office to put a stop payment on the transaction. Don't trust CamBuy!

I can't recommend Cambuy too highly! – I have purchased from them twice, their prices are very competitive & their communication & service 1st class. I ordered a lens before our recent trip, they advised the colour was not in stock & would take 3 weeks but offered the alternative colour promptly (which I took as was leaving before then) or cancellation. They shipped it Express Post to ensure it arrived in time!

Out of stock – Put an order through internet - but received email next day saying item was on backorder with ETA. It did ask however if I wanted to cancel, and good that they actually emailed saying there would be a delay (unlike some other sites). Otherwise, goods arrived in their original packaging etc so all good.

Also Australia Post sent emails regarding the postage status which I found very comforting as the camera was a significant purchase for me as it cost $1,539.00.
