Canon PowerShot SX40 HS

Never been happier with a camera – After spending 1000s on larger different models I have settled back with my Cannon SX40 alone . The clarity on telephoto shots has been a real excitement at times and some shots when out of the car window on the move have been nothing less than amazing. Its lightweight and auto make for quick operation though slower shutter may be only minor disadvantage at times. Remember to cover screen when not in use as great swing cover available inbuilt. Maybe 30/40,000 shots thus far with no hiccups experienced.
Really excellent camera – Over the years I have had many Canon devices: Printers,Scanners and Cameras, from compact powershot cameras to top of the line EOS film cameras so I feel qualified to write this report on the Powershot SX 40 HS Well to cut a long story a bit shorter :P ,, It rocks !! This Camera is amazing, the 35x Optical zoom will blow your mind when you use it(also has up to 140x digital zoom which does a good job of capturing good detail even at this extreme range)
I am a keen astronomer as well as photographer and I must admit the moon photos taken with this camera (using a tripod)are superior to using my 800mm telescope
The SX40 can be used by a beginner as a point and shoot but you will quickly want to explore the extensive options that are readily accessible with this unit.
The macro shots are also fantastic,a youtube search will give you an idea as well of the potential of the SX40
The ability to shoot full HD video with stereo sound is also a big bonus, although at full HD settings you will want a good sized SDHC card (preferable class 10)
the smile and wink recognition capacity of the Canon are very reliable and helpful for your portrait shots and it automatically captures skin tones very well.
I recommend a screen protector for the display as it is a beautifully clear TFT
Also a recent discovery is the SX40 has an accelerometer function so when viewing your pics by simply rotating the camera will cause the display to rotate like your Iphone or Ipad (or Android device of course)
I have to say I did some extensive research before purchasing this camera and one negative comment I did find was about the battery life but in all of my use I found that to be quite inaccurate as the battery lasts really well..it is supplied with a Li-ion 920mAh rechargeable and I sure cant complain about the battery life and a separate charger is supplied (It takes about 2 hours to fully charge the battery)
If you are a person that wants to use the camera to take 500 pics at a time and long HD videos I guess you might want to get a spare battery though
Also on another front the SX40 also has a built in viewfinder of good quality, which is really useful under bright conditions as your eyes will not have to constantly adjust for bright light as they would using the tft display. The viewfinder includes a diopter adjustment for those that wear eyeglasses, very handy.
Oh and the image quality is fantastic with the new Digic 5 processor
I hope this review will give you some usable info about the SX40
Cheers Good Build, great functions, impressive image quality, excellent battery life
