basically, we were new cat owners and needed to navigate everything that was necessary. A key ‘necessary’ is kitty litter and I wanted to share our journey with Chandler Natural Cat Litter.

After being taken ownership by our cats we tried a range of products to see what: a) they liked or seemed to prefer, and b) we could afford and were prepared to live with.

We initially came-across the Chandler product at our local IGA (although we have also seen it in Coles). As the cats were all fairly young we began with their ‘Soft Kitten Litter’. The only difference between this and their ‘Original Cat Litter’ appears to be the size of the granules – with the kitten litter being finer.

The cats – all of them – took to it very quickly. As long as we cleaned out the waste every day we have never had any issues with them not using it. If anything, they all seemed to prefer the Kitten rather than the Original style – whatever their ages. It also wasn’t too messy on their feet either, although the coarser Original was slightly better.

With up to five cats and a couple of separate litter trays we generally found that within a week it was smelling pretty foul. We would dump it into a bag for our rubbish collection at that point, but did find that we could maybe string it out for another day or two by leaving it outside exposed to sunlight and stirring it occasionally.

We didn’t find that absorption extended too well to odours. We would frequently need to go and cover/ recover ‘business’ after a cat had used the litter bin.

The biggest gripes are supply and cost. Post-COVID it seemed that supply was patch (at best) and often non-existent. Even reaching out to the manufacturer, they were unable to assist with this. Up until mid-2023 we could generally buy a 15L bag of Kitten Litter for around $12 to $15. The cost then sky-rocketed to almost $30, if you could get it. I think this may have moderated since but it really made it unsustainable for us.

the litter (esp.wet areas) a thorough raking around with the litter shovel. My cat doesn't 'get' covering hers (she does try!) so I have to go in and do it, and as she has Inflammatory Bowel Disease, her bowel contents are (believe me) absolutely putrid smelling (despite only being allowed to eat ONE type of food- a dry Hills Science Diet)!! Once covered, no more smell. Her litter tray is in the laundry, right next to the kitchen. I WAS going to get a covered tray, as my daughter uses one (she works long hours away), but we haven't needed to do that. We have a big mat in front of the tray, and very little (large) pieces end up there- easily swept up.

I've never used the crystal type as I was worried about dust being inhaled. The cattery we use has the newspaper type and our cat doesn't seem to worry about it, but I don't know what happens with the smell!!!

Disappointed at the small package price and expense – I have two very large boned and heavy cats. They tend to cary the lighter styles of litter and the sand style litter on their paws. food to feed their muscle and bones you can imagine they do not have dainty little kitty poos and wees. I am using 7 x 5kg bags per week and I used to buy it in bulk. What happened.

My solution is that I would like Chandlers to give clients the opportunity to buy directly online, get rid of coles and woolworths and keep their profits and make the task of buying kitty-litter not the same as buying petrol.

An excellent Australian product gone to the dogs Woolworths and Coles. Great for big boned and large cats. Too expensive but a necessity as the health of my cats is the same as the health of other members of my family.

Best cat litter ever. Stays fresher longer, easy to clean up and clean trays. Tried all the rest as sometimes Coles & Woolies are out of stock.Even tried the overpriced yuppie trendy stuff but Chandlers wins hands down. Just spent 3x long trying to clean up after Kitten brand clay. This was like try to clean up half set tile adhesive. Get Coles & Woolies to devote more space for yours. Show details ·  1

Best Cat Litter Available – This is by far the best litter we have used in over 40 years. It doesn't, for the most part, stick to their paws so there is much less tracking. each plant - the snails won't crawl over rough stuff! And of course i mean UNUSED cat litter. Clearly you can't put used litter on your vegetables!

Not happy. Jan – Only started using this litter a couple of weeks ago. First couple days were good. But went down hill from there. Wee odour. Cleaned out the wet pellets, didn't last long. Using more with this product than what I was using before. Will never buy or recommend again. One word. USELESS. Show details

Terrible. Smells bad after a few days – Room already smells like cat pee after only a few days. Cleaned litter tray and added more and same happens. Will stick to paper based litter. Show details

I have used Chandler with my past cat and current one for a total of 22 years and find it the best I have tried. The 7kg bag is easy to lift and hold for filling the litter tray and easy to store. the fact that it does not clump as so many others do. My cats have responded well to its texture and like being able to scratch in it. Occasionally a small piece attaches to the cat's paw but rarely. The litter is easy to sweep up and not too dusty. I thoroughly recommend Chandler cat litter to all cat owners.

We use this litter for our indoor cats and they just love it. Good value, lasts longer compared to other brands, great absorption and odour control and sooo easy to clean. Fantastic Product! Show details ·  1

My cat loves it and so, then, do I! – I’ve had my adopted cat for almost 6 years and in that time, the only litter he will use (insist on using) consistently, is Chandler. It’s non messy, non stinky, and reliably absorbent. Unlike some others, I have never noticed dust, except a tiny amount when emptying the tray out. Too dusty – I thought this was a great product but recently something has changed and it’s way too dusty, almost 25% of a bag is powder. This makes my cat sneeze and cough. I’ll need to change to another cat litter. Shame because this was great on absorbtion and odour control. Hope they change back the formula to one less dusty. Show details

Love this kitty litter, – I love this litter litter, my foster cat doesn’t spread all over the floor. With it being bigger pieces, it’s harder for her to kick it out of the tray. It also absorbs the smell really well. Show details ·  1

A soft and user friendly litter – I recently trialed chandlers soft kitten litter. It was low dust, the bag was easy to handle and it was very soft on delicate paws. It did get flicked around a fair bit by the babies, however, this was the trade off for having such a light weight, kitten friendly litter. Show details ·  1

So soft, purrfect for kittens – It's very soft and great for litter training kittens. My foster kittens have preferred this to the larger granules and seem more keen to learn using the tray. It's very easy to tidy up, doesn't spread much and is easy to scoop urine.  Show details ·  1

Better than most – Good for adult cats as it absorbs well and leaves less dust around the place. I find that I don’t need to change it more than once a week. Young kittens (under 8weeks) that I Foster try and eat it though so I don’t often use it for them  Show details

This is quite good – ...not only do my babies use the tray with this litter, they take great delight in scratching in it hurling bits against the wall in attempts to cover anything they have produced. This, by the way, is a compliment.... wee boy has been known to stand in a tray filled with other litter and pee outside! Perfect for Kittens – Chandler Soft is just perfect for kittens! The fine granules are soft on the kittens paws, there is no odour issues and it is easy to clean. I love it! Show details ·  1

I've tried a few – I used this for first then switched it up to see if there was something better but the clumping ones tend to get caught in their paws and onto the carpet. The paper ones absorb the wee too much and it wastes the litter too quickly. This one the wee goes to the bottom and is absorbed by the clay dust/small clay and the poo is easy to scoop out and not odour-some at all. Best litter I've tried and I've tried a few. Show details

Perfect litter – Ive been using this 12yrs for 1 cat. It realy absorbs smell. Lasts a lot longer than is whats recommend in packet. Very easy to clean. A few stray bits of litter seem to get out the tray but its not messy and easily picks up. Price is ok not cheap but affordable for how long it lasts Show details

Brilliant product – A great product that is good value. As with all cats they are picky and mine love this brand so it is brilliant that it is one of the cheaper ones available.

Chandlers recent change of format, and packaging – This used to be by far the best cat litter, in my opinion. But since they have changed the material (and packaging) to a light grey substance, it is very sticky, and it sticks to the tray and scoop. It also appears to be a bit less absorbent? Why would they change from their previous clay litter to an inferior one, when it used to be excellent? Regrettably I'm changing to another clay product that is less sticky and 'gluggy'.

Doesn't Absorb – I thought i would try this brand , it does not absorb at all ,and the cat leaves paw prints all over house after going to toilet, would not try again so going back to my original brand
