Pros: Does what I need I hardly know its there.
Can disable wireless network after firmware update
Cons: I will eventually have to replace it with one with better range when I move.
Overall: I had a few problems connecting vista to a wireless network but I updated the firmware and it works fine.
I must qualify that hardly ever use its wireless feature (its faster my internet connection so I am happy) but I would not expect it be fast if you want speed or range get a router that supports better wireless networking.
I like being able to turn off wireless networking I feel more secure.
Overall: run without drama for years, has stayed connected to Bigpond for days on end (any problems have been with the BigPond router) what's to dislike?
Pros: Low price; Configuration utility is simple enough to use
Cons: Required frequent resets to work
Overall: Whether my computer is connected wirelessly or through cable i had to power on/off the router periodically because it would stop working. a router shouldn't do this. I've used to different DI-524's and they've both had this problem for me. Unacceptable.
Pros: Reliable, with reasonable interface for configuration
Cons: Had some difficulty establishing comms with an iPod Touch - couldn't use WPA, and had to revert to WEP. Unsure as to whether that was the Touch or the DI-524, but I suspect the latter.
Overall: I've personally found the DI-524 to be rock-solid. In fact, mine stays on for months at a time without a re-boot, and even transmits wirelessly to the floor above. I'm running four different wireless devices thorugh it (laptop, XBox 360, Wii, and iPod Touch), and three other (wired) PC's. Maybe I'm just lucky, but for me the DI-524 has been extremely good value
Pros: Extremely cheap compared to other modems. Has wireless capabilities while allowing for up to 4 wired connections(LAN).
Cons: Crappy signal, especially if there are a few walls to pass through. Bathroom and Landry pipes will affect signal severely. The router will crash if left on for a period of time, 8-12 hours.
Overall: I do not recommend this router. Though it is cheap the service is provides is poor and buggy. Quite often the router will not allow the computer to connect to internet and requires a restart of the computer and the router(ie flicking the power point off then on).
Overall: Horrible router, I drop out like every hour even though I'm like 10 meters away from mine, have tried everything to fix this router up but still doesn't meet my expectations, any potential buyers please stay away from this router. I bought another Router, a Belkin one which works much better, no drop outs, better coverage and a much stronger signal strength.
The DI-524 is a high-speed 2.4GHz 802.11g wireless broadband Router with a built-in 4-port Fast Ethernet Switch. It incorporates high-speed wireless LAN with speeds of up to 54Mbps.
This router lets you quickly share DSL or cable modem Internet connection (requires ADSL modem with an RJ45 port for Internet connection), with or without the network wires. With advanced functions traditionally found in business-class routers, this router gives your business a cost-effective way to install a secure and fast network with bottleneck-free link to the outside world.
With built-in wireless LAN connections and 10/100Mbps switch, this router provides ready connection for workstations and servers, with or without the network wires. These built-in functions save you the cost and trouble of installing a separate wireless access point and Ethernet switch.
At up to 54Mbps, the router provides wireless LAN users a very high data transfer rate. This compares favourably with the 11Mbps speed of 802.11b wireless devices, and the 22Mbps rate of 802.11b+ equipment. In addition, adoption of the 2.4GHz frequency, makes this router an ideal solution for bandwidth intensive WLAN applications.
In addition to providing 54Mbps rate when operating with wireless users using D-Link AirPlusXtremeG+ equipment, this router is also compatible with existing 802.11b wireless devices. This means that you may sacrifice some of the router's high speed when you mix with your existing 802.11b devices, but you will not lose any ability to communicate.
The router provides NAT protection for your office and home users from Internet intruders and hacker attacks.
To protect transmitted data in the air, the router employs the enhanced 64/128/256-bit industry-standard WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) M encryption protocol. WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) provides users a higher level of security for data and communications than has previously been available.
