Dangerous – Our beautiful cairn terrier developed tremors, lowered body temperature, fatigue and a rash after using this product. Our vet failed to identify the issue and our furry friend died a week later of kidney failure despite IV treatment. They never thought to rinse him off even just to make sure there was no residue. Some vets believe this product is risk free when it clearly is far from that. I curse the day I ever saw this product.

Works ok but expensive – My dog suffers from allergies and scratches/licks his muzzle, paws, elbow pads and groin. This has only slightly reduced his scratching over his previous medicated shampoo, however, it seems to remove dirt and grime much better. He has never looked so clean (it also has a nice neutral smell). The main issue is that it doesn't lather well. The… Read more

directions state to use your hands to lather, but I find this hopeless. All it does is spread the shampoo over his coat. I use a pet shampoo brush and squeeze some on the brush, then work it in. This works fantastic, builds up a rich lather and massages his skin. He is short haired, not sure how well the brush would work on long hair.

If your dog doesn't suffer from a specific condition that this shampoo addresses, then all it will do is slightly ease the symptoms. I didn't really expect more than that and I'll keep using it as it cleans well and isn't strongly perfumed.

I'm uncertain about its usefulness – As the title of my review states, I'm uncertain about the usefulness of Malaseb (1L bottle). I'd give it more of a 3.5 star but there's no option for 0.5 increments. I bought this product because my vet recommended it since my dog has what is thought to be mild environmental allergies. I wash him with it every two weeks. I feel that it slightly… Read more

reduces his itching but not to a significant amount.

I feel like when wearing gloves it's hard to lather on a large dog with short hair and I feel like I use a significant amount of product (it is an expensive shampoo!). I tried Dermcare's non-medicated version and either it made him itchier after use, or my dog was needing the Malaseb to keep him under control. This is a mystery.

One thing I really don't like about this product is the toxic smell. My husband has commented on the smell as well. I've resorted to washing my dog with it outdoors so that we aren't breathing in such a toxic smell. However, in Winter I'll have to wash him in the bathroom again and this will be a problem (toxic smell-wise).

I have to admit however, I don't wash him with the frequency recommended on the back of the bottle to initially get things under control. My vet said to just do it every two weeks - I think what she was getting at was not stripping the coat of the dog with over-washing. I have to say, fortunately washing him every two weeks has not affected his beautiful shiny coat in any way. We never used to wash him and he's got a very shiny coat. I'm glad it's stayed that way! See the attached vid of his beautiful shiny fur that has been unaffected by Malaseb.

In conclusion, it's vet-recommended, but hard to lather, smells toxic, uses up a lot of product for a large dog, has a benefit (but not a large one) and is expensive. For now, I will continue to use it.

Bad reaction – My dog has been itchy , done food elimination tho can't find problem ,have washed him with oatmeal shampoo which relives symptoms a little though not to great effect so I tried Malaseb today, using instructions printed on bottle ,after washing and drying he seemed quite comfortable then his skin started to deepen in colour and became more and more… Read more

itchy and he was becoming so hot you could feel the temperature coming from him ,I made a mix 50,50 of Cider Vinegar and water and tried to apply tho was so itchy tore my arm with his claws as soon as I touched him trying to itch himself .I held his legs and applied the Vinegar and water which seemed to relive him emidiatly, he's still very touchy and about 50 percent back to normal ,I'm hoping I can keep him stable till I get to the Vets first thing ,I'm sure this is a very good product but as above can have side effects on some of our fur Baby's so I suggest doing a test wash on a small area of skin and observing for several hours. If I had known this I would have saved my self a whole lot of Heart ache ,sleepless night, worry and pending Vet bills.

An Amazing Treatment – On 29th June, I became the Owner of a small Kitten (about 4 weeks old), who was found on the side of the M1, Gold Coast. Unbeknown to me, the Kitten, who I named Bart had Ringworm. The only signs of Ringworm on Bart were a small dry area on each ear but the impact on others were extensive. I ended up with a huge amount of Ringworm on my face,… Read more

neck and chest area and our Dog, Homer who we adopted 4 years ago from the Animal Welfare League, also had many areas of Ringworm and then finally my Husband succumbed with a few sites of Ringworm. Although it is not recommended for Human Use, the best treatment I found was the Malaseb Shampoo, purchased to treat our Dog, which was rubbed (until it became frothy) onto the affected areas and left on for 10 minutes and then thoroughly rinsed off. The affects from using this Product were remarkable and more effective than any of the Suggested Medical Products and can be purchased from your Local Veterinary Clinics. A 250ml bottle will cost $25.81 but the results make it a truly worthwhile purchase.

Perfect for itchy, allergy prone dogs – My mother had a Maltese who was prone to allergies, when the dog passed she gave me about 5 bottles of this stuff for my dogs. I never used it until my Cavalier King Charles started having seasonal allergies, along with recurrent thrush infections on his paws and in his ears. The stuff is perfect. I started using it for his weekly baths and… Read more

noticed his "hot spots" were less inflamed and the thrush infections were few and far between.

I wasn't aware you are suppose to let the shampoo sit on the dogs coat for 10 minutes so once my vet told me to start doing that my dogs coat was amazing, the thrush isn't an issue anymore and his allergies are a lot more controllable.

I find that although the smell isn't great, once my dog is dried after a bath he is left smelling good, no damp dog smell and his coat is very soft.

In between baths if I find him itching I just run a little on the itchy spots, leave for 10-20 mins, wash it off and it does the trick.

This product has saved us a lot of stress and many vet visits for allergies and thrush infections. It works. Expensive for a small bottle.

Don't bother trying other products, this is the best – After trying expensive foods, creams and everything, this was the only thing that helped my dog's skin! It is definitely well worth the money. My dog was a lot for more comfortable and even became more obedient since it wasn't always scratching and irritated. Show details

Amazing product… wouldn’t use anything else on my staffy… – Works perfect for my Staffy, I will definitely be using it again and recommending it to my friends and family. Be sure to follow the instructions. Do not leave on for more than recommended time allocated on the bottle.

Not 10 minutes – My maltese x had licked the fur of the top of her foot. It looked red and angry. A daily 1 :10 malaseb soak for 2 minutes and it was back to normal in 2 months. Following the soaks the feet should be rinsed with a small amount of bath oil in warm water as malaseb can make the skin dry. Best done at the end of the day as often an allergy to the grass.  Show details

It’s awful. Don’t buy it – This shampoo is indicated for Malesezzia but it aggravates the dogs skin so much so that it worsens the condition!! And given the number of bad reviews this needs to be addressed.

Absolute sh*t product – - both dogs scratch for hours after being washed - even tho' I was careful to rinse thoroughly - so much so I almost flooded the bathroom. Happened twice. Had to give dogs antihistamine - worse than the original condition. Show details

No relief from malaseb for my pup – Bought from the vet. Used exactly as directed. Tried it twice a week for 2 weeks, then once a week for 3 weeks. Made dog scratch even more frantically after each time . No relief at all.

Love/Hate Malaseb – I've been recommended Malaseb by vets, but I found it drying. Then my vet said to use for one of my dog's allergy rash and dilute it 1:10 for cleaning ears. I reread the instructions and realised I was using far too much as shampoo. For the past few weeks I've used the amount on the bottle, and QV bath oil afterwards. It has helped both my dog's itching. Just don't pour heaps straight out of the bottle on to your pet, like I used to. Show details

Good for Ringworm prevention and treatment in dogs – I have used Malaseb shampoo to prevent ringworm in my dogs over the years, wether it was through direct exposure with an infected animal or suspected infected animal or visited a place where there was suspected ringworm in their pets. Works great and never had a ringworm infection in my dogs as I would wash them immediately after any suspected… Read more

exposure/during the visit.

My Cavalier had a mild yeast infection in her paw pads as a puppy and Malaseb twice a week for two weeks cleared that up.

If my dogs were to contract Ringworm I would definitely use Malaseb as it limits the amount of environmental contaminantion through limiting ringworm fungal spores being shed.

Be careful when washing around the face, if it gets in their eyes it causes irritation. This happened once and my dog was fine thankfully but now I use a sponge or my finger very carefully around the eye area.

Top product! – My pup gets periods of inflamed itchy skin which sometimes can be dry and flaky and at other times seem moist and warm. I got this shampoo and it was like instant relief for the both of us. There’s nothing worse than watching your loved pet suffer and scratch and become red all over. This shampoo smells nice and fresh, really calms her skin,… Read more

redness goes away and itchy is soothed. Completely worth every cent! And saved her from taking medication instead. A much easier, less costly and healthier alternative, and she smelled pretty and felt soothed after her first wash. Love it! Happy pup, happy me!

Itching and smell have gone – Malaseb Medicated Shampoo was recommended to me 2 years ago after my little dog was diagnosed with a skin condition that made him itch and gave off a nasty odour. I wash him twice a week (once in winter) making sure to massage the malaseb in well and leave on for the recommended 10 minutes. I noticed an improvement almost immediately but have… Read more

I use this product in my grooming salon – I’m a groomer & I swear by malaseb. I encourage any of my clients who have fur babies with skin conditions to try it. I have never had any say it didn’t work. I strongly recommend you follow the instructions to the letter, such as letting your fur baby “soak” for a full ten minutes. If you don’t you will not get the full benefits. I hope others have the success I have seen with this product.

Perfect. Done the job – My poor girl was as so itchy and I tried a few different products to no use. A helpful lady from overstock suggested I try this and my dog instantly relived from irritation and itching that was driving us both insane. She is much happier and on top of leaving her nice and clean She is soft and fluffy!

Dangerous! – I used Malaseb on my dog because it is supposed to be safe for dogs with skin problems but some got into his eye & it very quickly caused a chemical burn on the eye. never use this again. There are many other products available that contain natural & safe ingredients that would be safer than this toxic shampoo.

Used on horse for bad case of greasy heel/mud fever – Had used Malaseb with success for dogs smelly itchy coat problem so gave it a try on horse's 6 month old severe case of greasy heel which developed into cellulitis at one point (cured with antibiotics but still had greasy heels) and it finally started to improve within a week. Vet had recommended I try washes in chlorhexidine, 5% bleach, Canesten… Read more

& saline none of which helped at all. Horse didn't mind Malaseb washes even though skin was red raw & bleeding in places but had objected to C/hex, bleach & Canesten which irritated already sore skin. Have used Malaseb since at first sign of greasy heal and stopped it in its tracks. Great product if you follow the instructions & rinse/dry off treated areas. Helps soften scabby skin which is typical with greasy heel & helps active ingredients penetrate the affected skin.

Poison – After using malaseb for years on my cavvies...my latest cav pup..1yr old..licked shampoo vomited for hours..now has a liver toxicity problem won't eat and came close to passing away.. It's a very severe reaction but really not worth the risk.. Poured malaseb down sink. Would not ever recommend to anyone. Dog groomer of 25 years.

This product is brilliant for dogs with difficult to treat, skin conditions – I have a small x bred terrier who is so low to the ground, she often gets rashes from her belly touching grasses etc. (especially rye grass) when this happens, I wash her in a diluted solution ( 1 part to ten parts water) of Malaseb medicated dog shampoo and whatever rash, infection or skin irritation she has, has calmed down within two to four… Read more

hours. It is not the greatest smelling product on the market, but it works each and every time I use it. It is also highly concentrated, so a little goes a long way. I have had the same bottle (which is still half full) for over a year and a half now. I recommend this product highly for dogs that are prone to recurrent and or difficult to treat skin conditions.

melaseb – My dog was allergic to this product and made this skin flaking and itchiness worse. I rang a specialist skin vet who told me that they recommend this shampoo to be diluted 1 to 10 parts water. i tried this poured over him lathered it up and then rinsed it off within 2-3 minutes. It now has helped him. No one else recommended this shampoo to be diluted.
