Pros: When it's working properly, it produces good quality standard definition audio and video. It can be made to record programs to its hard drive and replay them later.
Cons: The infuriating dumb flakey firmware. If you want to program it to record something, it makes you go through an obstacle course. Hit the wrong key and you have to key in everything again. It defaults to NOT recording. If there's a program time conflict, it lets you get right to the end before triumphantly telling you that there's a conflict and deleting everything you just entered. Even worse, if you do more than a small amount of skipping through advertisements on replay, the whole thing locks up and refuses to respond to any commands from the remote control or its front panel keys. You have to turn it off and on again to reset it. Too bad if it was recording something. This has happened to me dozens (or hundreds) of times, and mine has the latest firmware installed.
Overall: When it's functioning as a simple Set Top Box, it's great. If you're trying to program it to record something, or you're just trying to jump from one function to another with the remote control, its absense of 'fuzzy logic' is infuriating. Many times I've felt like throwing mine out the window and getting a real hard-drive STB like maybe a Topfield or LG. On top of all that, this model is known for a remote control fault which turned out to be due to a faulty capacitor in the remote. My overall advice is: unless you have a high frustration tolerance, keep away from this toy and get a real STB with a hard drive.

Here's a list of questions other people have asked about DigiCrystal SDT-9077P
What brand universal remote has DigiCrystal on it please?
Maggi asked on Nov 21, 2011
Sorry I don't know much about universal remotes. You could talk to Wagner Electronic Services in Ashfield NSW who sells a range of them fairly cheaply. Personally I'd suggest getting your present remote fixed. Most likely it only needs to have the capacitor in parallel with the battery replaced with one a bit bigger and of higher quality. That's how I fixed mine.
My DigiCrystal SDT-9077P remote control to the set top box doesn't always work and need to get a new one. Where can I purchase one please? Thanks

The problem's probably due to a defective capacitor in the remote. This is a known fault which is easily fixed. [email removed] Or you could try buying a "universal" remote control and working through the codes until your Digicrystal PVR responds.
