Overall, a pretty good vacuum – This vacuum works well with very strong suction and ease of use. One thing I did find was a design fault with a restriction in the suction tube as it reaches the main housing. It seems to squash down from a circular tube to an oval and in doing so, causes a restriction when fluff starts to build up here.  Show details

Reliable Vacuum that was great for the time – Bought in approx 2003, the vacuum has served really well. The plastic parts did break first, and there was issues with the electrical contact rings in the handle of the motor head (same ones that caused the recall notice) but this was after at least 12 years and was workable. The motor head was awesome (the motor in the head only recently stopped… Read more

working), better than anything modern I have without one for picking up pet hairs in carpet. It has definitely aged, annoying to drag around behind you with the cable and you almost want to walk holding the vacuum barrel for portability, except it's not light enough to do that for a long period of time. Stairs aren't fun either. That's all compared to the modern stick or even backpack vacuums, but for the time it was great. The washable filter disintegrated completely when I last went to clean it. The vacuum motor still works, as does the rubber seal in the dust catcher. Just plastic parts tended to be a bit more fragile. A vacuum without needing bags too was also quite unique if I remember correctly. A bit of a pain to clean but it did let you take it apart quite a lot so while it took a while (to clean fully) it was doable.

Would suggest anyone with a cracked handle (motorhead model) to rethink using it going forward.

Glad it's discontinued – This is the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever used. So glad it's discontinued. Lime all Dysons it gets caught up on everything as it has big back wheels, no castors. It is badly designed and unbalanced so flips over a lot. Very hard to empty without dirt going everywhere. Terrible product. Show details

Lovvvvvvvvvve DYSON VACUUMS DCO5 – How did I ever get along without it? – MR Dyson, I just pray you have been sufficiently compensated to the tune of millions and millions for showing those who have been in the business for many decades before you HOW ITS DONE, (take a leaf Hoover Electrulux!), having churned out nothing but rubbish FOR SO LONG, forcing them to step up their game on your ingenuity. In this day where the ptb encourage substandard everything you are standing up and saying buy once and buy right and never look back. I pray you branch out into….everything - ESPECIALLY PRINTERS, please, please, show ‘em all how its done. We, the disgruntled, really-clean people of the world are waiting as we, salute you Mr James Dyson!

Stunned is all I could say I was, stunned with this stunning service and stunning products

I wish dyson would expand their market to manufacture... Everything. Really well thought out in every way attractive lightweight easy to handle and most of all work work work.

I don't care if have to pay through the nose for any of their products they are worth it and end up being so much cheaper than having to replace ten times over in a lifetime!! Its so worth taking the time to save and pay the extra for the one time purchase. My vacuum the DC 05 was one of the first and having had to replace vacuums every couple of years for twenty years, prior to this, I have had this one vacuum for 15 years and it shows no signs of slowing down.

The greatest compliment I could make is my children, now grown, who had always been less than excited to do any vacuuming both had great change of heart with this equipment. They said its just actually fun to use the Dyson, I think because we all felt we were accomplishing something instead of just half pie job blowing half the dust back into the carpet, with every other cleaner had ever owned before.

The one and only drawback was that twice a plastic part needed to be replaced but at the Miranda workshop they did this quickly no questions asked and even though it was past the five year warranty free of charge. I will never forget the assistant saying something to the effect of "It shouldn't happen to our products so you shouldn't be charged." all the personnel at Miranda were always lovely and helpful but for one man.

Terrible – I bought this after getting conned by advertising. Looks great but that about it! Great for the first month, until the novelty wore off. It does not swivel so basically moves in a straight line banging into everything. The hose turns back on itself and then folds-looses suction. The telescopic wand collapses all the time as I believe it was… Read more

designed by a tall man and I am 163cm woman so my hands sit right where the collapse button is (my 13 year old son - same height - has this problem too) its cumbersome, hard to store, awkward to use on stairs, you have to change heads to get into the corner- other vacuums you just pull off the wand and the nozzle on the hose can be used to 'get into that little bit'. It looks serious but I think it was designed by someone who vacuums as a novelty not cleaning up after 3 boys and a dog. I wish the dog would take it into the garden and chew it to pieces but she hates it too!Do yourself a favour and don't be sucked in cos that will be the only suction you will get if you buy it.

Excellent – Overall, am very happy with the unit. used to be used at a comunity centre (equivalent to a 5-6 bedroom house) - lots of foot traffic, food/dirt on the carpet regularly. (latter two outside of warranty period).

Alas, wheels are a little wonky (when i got it), and I had to replace the dust canister soon after (crack in it). The cord retractor was stuffed up again before I got it, but am used to it now. Also, the furniture brush was missing, and part of the tool holster was (still is) broken.

A week or so ago, motor went. Spoke with Dyson re costs on sending/fixing unit. Would add up to near $200, more if anything else is found. Googled a bit, and it seems a lot of people have replaced the DC05 motors/cable retractors themselves - there are a couple of step by step guides available on line (with pictures).

I was amazed that Dyson sells those parts.

Am opting for this, as I only paid $150 for the cleaner, and cant justify buying another one just yet. When it dies again, I plan to get another Dyson (new this time).

There are many other bagless units out there, but Dyson is evolving with each new model. Amazing suction power. Best vacuum I have ever used. Purchased my unit (DC05 turbo) a couple of years ago form previous owner, hasn't missed a beat until recently. Can't really say.

Top Quality – I've had my DysonDC05 for around 14 years & it's been fantastic. Just a few minor repairs - cord not retracting & motor repair about 9 years ago. Extremely happy with my Dyson – I have had my Dyson for 18 years. Had it serviced once only because the cord stopped retracting. Have not had any other issues. If & when this one dies I will be buying another Dyson. I would not even consider buying a different brand.

Excellent customer service – I too have just had incredible customer service from Dyson. We have a DC05 which has been working well but a clip on the vacuum broke so it did not close properly. It is 5 years old and out of warranty but a call to the very friendly customer care centre meant a new part was supplied at a very reasonable price by the next morning!! OK – I get hayfever and wanted a good efficient vacuum at any price. The Dyson DC05 does well at sucking up dust, but then fails pathetically. back into the air near your face.

It has a sexy design, but not a design that shows much consideration for how the product will actually be used. I feel rather ripped off.

Despite the big fuss about not losing suction through the bag, it does have poor sealing on the various joints and loses suction there.

I'm going back to a bagged vacuum, where the dust is kept contained once it's sucked up, and you can then just throw out the bag. It makes so much more sense. good suction, light weight a bag would be much less messy; fussy design; poor sealing

Bad – Had the Dyson for five long years and would have replaced it sooner if not for the initial expense. As a cleaner it is average at best and no better than a vacuum half its retail price. suction it already has. Supplied "Turbo Brush" had little effect on carpets and constantly needed untangling from sucked up threads. Cord re tractor broke in first year, half the "on board" tools broke later. In use it will not stand on stairs and frequently tips over on its side. There are no bags to buy but emptying the dust cylinder can blast clouds of dust back into the house.
