cleaned. And emptying the barrel is a filthy messy job. I bought this vacuum because we live in a small space with minimal storage and vacuum regularly and it's not been fit for purpose. I have purchased a Mila vacuum with a bag and although it's bulkier, it actually works and doesn't redistribute a heap of dust when it needs emptying. I'll never buy Dyson again.

machine performed exceptionally well removing pet hair, dust and lint from carpets efficiently, it's only failing was its noise and lack of hepa filter.

The Dyson in comparison is akin to a catwalk glamour mode, all show and no performance with an equally unappealing price tag of $499. The Dyson's lack of suction is the primary fault, it has no gumption to suck up a simple paper clip. It's attachments for carpet and hardwood floor surfaces are clunky and unwieldy, failing to remove crumbs and lint from carpets. The hose attachments too bulky for tight spaces make the task of vacuuming no longer a straight forward operation.

Are there any positives? - not at all. Perhaps I am asking too much of a product so heavily marketed. It lives up to its reputation of giving primary emphasis to form over demonstrated function - no wonder it has been discontinued. Dyson will continue to cut adrift its failures at our expense.

If I could say one thing - could I have my money back please.

excited to vacuum (and it sucked up so much that my previous machine had not done!).I wash the 2 filters every couple of months and clean the head every time from my long hair, no problem. If you have more than a 2 bed apartment, or have pets, you might need a larger model (this is supposed to be for smaller apartments).

I am a big Dyson fan and call Mr Dyson the 'vacuum guru'. I also then bought a handheld Dyson for my car which works really great. Various family members have since bought larger Dyson's and seem quite happy. One person never emptied it (or cleaned filters) and then got angry it died....silly. But they bought another Dyson.

People often don't appreciate things these days (or take care of things properly) so I felt to write an appreciative review.

has broken or developed any issues, even though I do tend to give it a fairly good workout on a regular basis. The cord is OK in length, but retracts very sluggishly. It has been like this right from the beginning, and I don't think it will fail ..however have wondered whether I'll one day be left with an unretracted cord. Having said that, it is small, elegant, and really handy. You can pick it up and carry it around very easily, and storage in tight spaces is a cinch.

A big bonus is the added HEPA filter to boot, which means it filters out allergens and fine dust from the air. Considering I have many sensitive family members, this feature really is a breath of fresh air!

The final comment that I wanted to make is that it is definitely worth cleaning the two filters every 6 months or so. If you don't, you will definitely notice poorer performance. I was naughty and left mine once for two years. Luckily Dyson send out reminder emails, and when I finally got around to giving them a wash (you just run them under a tap, easy peasy) the vacuum ran like a tornado!

Useless… Minimal suction – This Dyson has hopeless suction, would be quicker to pick up pieces by hand. I thought it was never supposed to lose suction, well this one did. Cord is far too short and hardly ever retracts fully. Have to go over carpet or floors several times to get it slightly clean, just terrible. Nothing. Minimal suction, short cord, cord never retracts fully. Waste of money.

This is fantastic – Just got a Dyson D26. The reviewer who said there was no suction must have a dud. It picks up everything, even cat hair from the carpet. The cord is actually longer than my old vacuum, so don't know why people complain. Wish I'd got one years ago. Even if it has to be emptied often, the pros far outweigh the cons. Light enough to pick up to do curtains and blinds. Light, easy to manoeuvre, doesn't take up much room in the cupboard.  Show 2 replies

perfect for me – I bought the dc 26 because of its small size. I like to "vacu dust" because of allergys.This cleaner is light enough to hold in one hand while dusting everything from micro venetian blinds to furniture shelves and even ornaments. money. Also makes a good job of all our floors both hard surfaces and carpet. small size and amazing suctionnot not sure why the hose is fixed to the right as it comes out from the machine. It seems to prevent the machine from following easily when being pulled along.

this a struggle. Suction is OK but no better than my 15 year old Sanyo which was also bagless and featured an on/off switch conveniently located on the handle. bagless design expensive, poor design, hard to use

Excellent – Very good cleaning performance just like all Dysons - I've owned a few going back 7 years and they all still work. The DC26 is very light, compact and easy to use. the bin is very easy to empty although it's small. I vacuum every couple of days and the bin needs emptying after 2 rooms so my guess is you would have to empty it after vacuuming every room if you have carpet.

Because it's so light, it's easy to carry while vacuuming stairs but the disadvantage of being so light is that it tips over easily. I like the multi surface head but use the carpet cleaning head for rugs and it seems effective. The cord is a little shorter than I'd like.

Overall, the small size and lightness means there are compromises in bin size and stability. For me, the trade offs are worthwhile. Easy to use Short cord, can be unstable

the hose from the wand then loop and tuck the hose around the body. Store the wand wherever.

The wand can attach to the suspiciously flimsy clip on the vac's body. Also, the supplied default dual channel floor tool is poorly designed. It doesn't handle the suction power which makes it difficult to push away; it's fine on the return stroke. There's a finger trigger lever that alleviates the suction on curtains. Might have to try using that as well as look at getting the bonus gift turbine head (just send in the form before the expiry date) which looks to have bigger wheels and more weight, but, what are the chances of removing the roller which I don't need? And the air comes out quite gusty on this vac, especially if you want hold the vac in your right hand the wand in your left, (am right handed). Oh, and you'll be needing a tool or a coin to remove one of the filters for cleaning.

I see a new and improved model in the wings so will be keeping the packaging for re-sale if needs be. Overall, great for our humble abode. Lightweight enough for the missus to carry while vacuuming. Flimsy wand rest and floor tool. Blowy.

Excellent – highly recommended, only need tiny space to store car, timber floorboards, carpet, tiles... this baby can handle any surface and so easy to move around. I like the fact that it is so small but has the same big suction as the bigger models.
