If you are not a "Mechanic", don't buy this brand – While this Dyson has great suction power, when it comes time for maintenance, it gets very complicated. I'm not talking about emptying the dirt canister, but trying to clean the floor brush & filters. I watched their video on how to clean floor brush and filters. Looked simple, well I couldn't get that floor brush out after following all instructions. Finally gave up and am cutting hair & lint out with scissors! Show details
Works great with carpet, had no issues – Awesome machine, well engineered. Had it for years now and it cleans up hardwood and carpet so much better than anything we had before. I just found out that they're still selling parts for it and will do until about 9 years from the date we purchased it, which is good. We might need a new head in the future as, understandably, the bristles on the… Read more
spinning brush are starting to ware down. We clean it after every 2 or 3 vacuums and it works with 100% effectiveness.
Motor failed – The DC47 has been used carefully on timber floor not even for cars interior. It suddenly stopped without indications. The filter was washed in accordance with manual. Dyson requested 160 dollars for repair and attributed the faulty not to the quality but not sending to maintenance. I askec all my colleagues and friends, no one have ever sent to… Read more
DYSON for it but never had problem of the motor broken. My advice to who wants to buy Dyson, you have to be not unlucky as DYSON will not be reasonable to look into its product quality but arrogantly reject your legitimate claim that specific product has faults. I will start looking to resort to fair trading.
Don't buy this – I have spent hours cleaning it trying to get the head spinning but it just won't suck. Ridiculous design considering it has one job. Was good for the first 3-4 months. Will never buy another Dyson, we had a cheap BigW vacuum before this that was 10x better and only $40!!! Wish we'd kept it. Show details

Great product, reliable brand – Our old Dyson blew up after a heck of a lot of use. This particular model didnt have all the accessories i wanted but the bonus of being able to use the accessories from the one that blew up as they are compatible. Not as powerful as the previous model but works fine for us. Show details
I'm done with this 'thing' – I am in meltdown mode after sitting ON MY KNEES trying to get the head to spin for the umpteenth time. Yes, that's right, I now have to vacuum on my knees to get ANYTHING to suck up, even after going through all the cleaning steps. I've actually thrown the head into a sink full of soapy water to try and get it to work. The frigging hose under… Read more
the barrel (you know the bit, the bit that's HALF the size of the rest of the hose) continually gets stuff stuck in there because it's not as wide as the other hose. It's the ANIMAL - yet I have to SCRUB the carpet with the head just to get any kind of hair off the carpet (2 dogs and 1 cat).... it works on tiles, hence the 1 star.

Dyson sucks in a good way – This is our second Dyson vacuum and both have had very strong suction. It does not scratch my floorboards which is very important feature as our boards are oiled boards not polished ones. It is fairly light and manoeuvrable. It has good capacity so I do not have to empty too often after vacuuming our 4 x 3 family home. The cords are longer than… Read more
my previous upright machine. My only regret is that I bought a barrel instead of a handstick as I was concerned I would have to charge the stick too often given the size of the house. With young kids, the constant crumbs and sand on the floor, it would have been much easier with a cordless handstick than having to lug this barrel around daily. Next vacuum will be a handstick but most definitely another Dyson. Worth the extra $ to get a cleaner floor and cleaner air.
Don't Bother buying – Bought without research silly me! This machine is all some other reviews has said. Cord too SHORT, machine is too LOUD omg like a plane landing on your head. The side plastic molding fell off after a couple of months. Emptying barrel opens before Main problem is it scratches the wooden floor. I have had the multi head replaced but no change. I… Read more
have dragged out my werheim and taped up the hose, after 15 yrs its still great, not noisy don't have to shift cord for the area, nice brush on the foot.
Great when we bought it but now – When this machine was purchased it was great. Over the past couple of years it has become really noisy, like it is blocked, but I can't track down the blockage. It's suction has reduced and the plastic handle cracked. It's current performance has me looking at competitors, but my partner still loves the Dyson name. That means our replacement will be another Dyson, but I haven't been impressed with the ongoing performance of this vacuum. Show details · 1
The best vacuum cleaner I have had – I like this vacuum cleaner. The suction is good. It is easy to use and all the parts are well designed. I use it on carpet and hard floors equally. I chose it because it's compact and easy to store. The only disadvantage is that there is no bag so emptying it is messy. The email reminders to clean the filter are useful. Show details
Over-priced under-performer – This vacuum cleaner had very good suction for the first three months then despite regularly washing filters and emptying the canister, the suction reduced to almost nothing. I sent the machine to Dyson for checking/repair and the performance improved after it was serviced. Soon after that the suction reduced again and is now virtually useless. The… Read more
complicated design makes emptying the canister messy and leads to constant blockages. There is no after sales service from a store so you need to phone Dyson with any issues and post the vacuum to them. I would not recommend a Dyson and would never buy another one.

Average product for the price tag – I purchased this model of Dyson based on word of mouth reviews. It works well on our timber floor boards but the suction is average (even after the filter is cleaned) and I notice that it doesn't pick up all the mess of the floor in one go. Otherwise it is easy to maneuver and light weight to hold. Show details
Reliable brand – Great suction but it's klunky and hard to move around. Very good on pet hair as I have two dogs that both shed hair. Easy to empty and bag less. Quiet and has good range of accessories. Clip for hose needs to be used as the hose doesn't lend itself to leaning on walls etc Show details

Know better, choose better.
Plastic junk – If you like coloured plastic and space age shapes then Dyson is for you. If you want a vacuum cleaner that works and will last longer than a year or two then look elsewhere. My wife keeps getting sucked in (pardon the pun) by the marketing hype, pretty colours and unnecessary mouldings, and has bought 2 cordless, and one 240 volt vacuum cleaners… Read more
and every one of them is useless. The 240 volt has just burnt out probably because it encountered a piece of fluff and couldn't deal with it.
Utter rubbish.
Rubbish product – Having been convinced by my wife to purchase this around $600, I was expecting big things. As others have said, it's a big disappointment for the outlay. The common theme with the reviews is that it's extremely unstable and continually tips - I found this from day one to be highly annoying. The spinning head needed replacing after a month as… Read more
it was faulty.. and has continually proven to be a painful, ceasing to spin becoming tangled with hair almost weekly. I am not even sure what this design feature contributes to the product, other than proving labour-intensive for the owner.
In addition, the internal components often become easily clogged reducing suction, requiring intervention. Emptying the dust bin is also a task, usually requiring a knife to scrape dust out manually. It feels as though you're always battling to keep this product running, like a dodgy old car or something. Not a fan.
Avoid – Sad to say very unhappy with my Dyson DC47. I have persisted with it for 12 months and even purchased a new filter thinking maybe it was the filter that was the problem, but it hasn't helped. No suction, short cord and unstable leaving marks on my walls if I don't hold the unit in my hand which makes vacuuming difficult. So I'm off to buy a new vacuum. :(

It is a faulty design. Shame on Dyson for keeping it in the market – Worst purchase ever. Lasted less than one year. Faults are simply too many to number but the big ones are: it is so unstable that it flips constantly and get scratched all ver immediately; the cable is too short; the dust bin is not properly sealed; impossible to empty the dustbin properly; dust flies everywhere; material is cheap; starts to… Read more
breakdown in days after purchase. I bought it with complete trust in the Dyson brand and ethics on design. I was wrong. It is a faulty machine. Utterly despicable. Got some vague interest via email from Customer Service but actual reseller here could not care less. My trust in Dyson is gone.
Worst vacuum ever – I'm so dissapointed with this vacuum - bought it little less than 2 years ago to replace an old elextrolux that lasted me about 5 years (which was awesome). Dyson have great marketing as this was what sold me into buyong one online... I should uave tested it first in store before my purchase, wouldnt have purchased it otherwise and saved a bot of… Read more
money (and sanity). Thos vacuum is so loud - it wakes my children up, my poor kids run outside everytime i get the vacuum out (they are scarec of it because of how loud it is), it also doesnt pick up all the dust especially off hard surfaces (floor boatds on particular), works ok on carpet - only collects things pn a forward motion due to it's motorhead, not back motoon so it's more time consuming, i find myself having to go over the same spot about 3-4 times to actually get it spot clean. I had it repaired withon the forst week of purchase as it was faulty from day 1, when i got it back from repairs it was still crap. When emptying the dust compartment it gets messy and dust flys everywhere - not food for allergy sufferers. Definitely not worth the money. Completely over rated- will never buy a barrel duson vacuum again.
Second chance Dyson and you fail.... again – I recently bought my second Dyson after many problems with the first, couldn't find anything decent so second time lucky. Not so. Head broken, handle broken, luckily I have extended warranty but they want you to send the machine back to Sydney (from Perth) every time there is a problem with it, no repaires in Western Australia. What a joke!… Read more
Problem with suction all the time, have to keep turning on and off to adjust suction, real pain. So now I am in the market for a new vaccuum.... again. Not worth the money!

Terrible – I have had this vacuum for less than 6months but went out and bought a new one today. I hate this vacuum. I hate the turbine head. It doesn't suck up anything bigger than dust. It always gets blocked and ceases suction. It pushes crumbs around instead of picking them up. I even rang support to talk to them about it. Very unhelpful "that is what… Read more
it's designed to do and no other heads fit" but when I pressed her about it she went and found out the slimline head does, but that's no good for everyday vacuuming. I spent nearly $800 on this machine obviously a salesman is very good at his job. Pity the dyson isn't. I don't know if this just a dud model but I will never buy another dyson. Strong suction when not blocked Too much to list
Just Don't do it!! I regretted buying this vac so much. I can't believe I spent $700 for it!! – I've always heard Dyson is suppose to be such a good brand and after reading a couple of officials reviews, have decided to 'treat' myself to a Dyson. Well, it might be good if it was advertised as a heavy duty duster! I vac my slate floor everyday and floor still feels gritty after. I even thought may be I needed a hardfloor head so off to… Read more
spend another $75 for a new hard floor head then I realised its not the head, its the vac that's absolutely useless!! No where near enough suction power, yes its light which is why i bought it, still it is advertised as being a multi floor vac not a duster so why does it not clean like a vac? Also if you've never used a dyson, don't be fooled by the large looking dust cannister, you can only vac up to a max line shown on the cannister which is a only a quarter of its size. For this amount of money I could have got a really decent vac. I've had it a couple of months before writing this review to ensure it wasn't my imagination or that my expectation was too high. This does not do as good a job as my last $99 vac. When you empty the cannister, the dust gets stuck in there so you end up having to pull out the dust using your fingers and yes, I have to empty it every single time, not because it vacumns everything up but because the can is so small. Will never ever buy another dyson product again due to this experience! light weight Shouldn't be classified as a vacumn. Its more like a good duster.
