Would not purchase again – We purchased the Dc33 a year ago before a big move. Almost immediately, it started making a very loud grinding sound and didn’t vacuum effectively. We unfortunately lost the receipt during our move and were unable to return. Had we not lost the receipt, we would’ve returned it; we were surprised by the poor quality of the product and lack of accountability by the company. Would not recommend. Show details
Buy something else! – Machine is difficult to manuver on any surface as it is heavy. I wouldn't recommend it for a person who isn't very strong! Machine needs to be tilted, front to back a bit to get the suction to start.Forget about using the on board attachments, it is extremely cumbersome, poorly designed. It is easy to empty the dust. If you are strong enough to move this machine and don't use on board tools;once the suction kicks in it works well. Show details
Awesomely terrible – Works kinda ok on hard surfaces yet totally useless on carpet. I've owned a few vacs over the years and this is definitely the worst. Overpriced. Give me a hoover any day - $100 and efficient. We have dogs who are old and losing hair - like my spouse! The hoover pet-vac used to work way better than this. Your hair-dryers are great [name removed], yet this product is poor. Show details

AMAZING – I purchased this vacuum years ago and it has lasted me so long. I use it on both hard floor and carpet and it works amazing on both surfaces when used with the appropriate floor setting. The other attachments are very helpful to enable cleaning of hard to reach or small places and the vacuum is easy to use in terms of smoothness and doesn't cause any pain in my arm to push. How I fixed my Dyson DC33 – I recently picked up this used DC33. It ran so I thought I had a great bargin. Got it home and it wouldn't move in forward on my carpet. I tried switching the floor levels-nothing..I cut away all hair and debris from roller brush-nothing...Grabbed a quarter and took the housing shield for the brush off, it looked great. Finally I pulled the… Read more
brush away from the belt low and behold there was about a 1/2 inch thick pile of hair that I was unable to see weaved all through. I cut out the hair, cleaned everything up and it's working like new!!!!
Dyson should have put some kind of guard to stop that from happening.
This is my 3rd Dyson I started buying them in the early 2000s. I still have my first they are awesome machines! I've passed each old one on to my adult children.
If you have animals I recommend you ALWAYS purchase the animal version.
I'm 50 something, I've owned at least one of every single vacuum out there. Trust me when I say NOTHING WORKS LIKE A DYSON!!!!
THANK YOU DYSON I APPRECIATE YOUR PRODUCT!!
Waited for a chance at the best – It took some doing saving my pennies but I own one. Now I have never been one to chance labels, but cleaning for many years and knowing what was a waste of money and what worked. When they came out and were yellow I tried a friends, it clogged with long hair and seemed to clean deeper but not on top, at the time I had a Eureka and it was the best… Read more
clean, it use to lift the carpet.
Needing an upright for my back, I kept my eyes on prices and waited.
I was shocked third time around the house, the dead skin I put in the bin made me sick, physically.
It is light and quiet, the only thing is took time to work out the hose attachment, but again read the manual. Take care of the appliance and it will live on.
My floors are lino and carpet (old carpet) my home is humble, but you will not be sorry. Ebay and gumtree sometimes have them really cheap to purchase.

Dyson doesn't stand behind the product they sell – Well like everyone else I saved up to get my Dyson wasn't very happy from the start as I only had rugs and the grinding noise it made to vacuum these was so loud I had to stop. We then moved house so for months it didn't get used approx 8 months as we only had tiles, we have now moved into a unit with carpet in the bedrooms and 2 rugs shorter… Read more
pile. It wears me out to vacuum as it just doesn't pick up the dirt so I'm going over it many times, it went into Dyson to check nothing was wrong when I collected it I was told nothing was wrong but it's been cleaned and the brush wasn't fitted right well I never fitted the brush. Since then I've tried to be happy with it but I'm faced with the same problem and now I'm constantly getting the hair off the brush
not easy to manage. I feel disappointed that it doesn't do what it's supposed to do for me pick up the dirt. Also to use the tools the hose is still so stiff I have to be careful the vacuum doesn't tip over. I've hardly used this machine but it's pointless. My friends barrel vacuum is so much better and suction is easy to work with no wonder they deleted this model shame I bought one I won't waste my money again DISAPPOINTED
Far from ergonomic – I bought this thinking it would be ergonomic but when I got it delivered I find the DC33 is absolutely horrible and not up to Dyson standard so I'm returning it - it's not a bargain for the $99 that it was once sold for at Target let alone $200. It's heavy and you have to push the brush bar down with your foot to get it started and if you go up a… Read more
small bump like from tiles to wood floor you have to put the unit back upright first then push it over and push the bar down with your foot and off you go again. The cord isn't retractable - it has to be manually wrapped around the back of the unit from top to bottom. Pulling the wand out is fiddly and the hose doesn't stay extended to the point that the machine falls over when you are using the hose. The brush bar is so thick that it doesn't fit under standard height kitchen cabinet doors. It just doesn't fit together very well for a Dyson. It's on the noisy side.
The positive things: good suction and Dyson eBay accepted my return and has said they will pay for return shipping so customer service is good from Dyson - these things get my extra star!

makes a grinding noise – Bought it today, returning it tomorrow. Worked great until i tried to use it on shag carpet. Made sure that the setting was on carpet. just made a grinding noise due to the length of the carpeting. This model is not made for shag carpet. Very disappointed, it was a 60 mile round trip. Now i know why they disconnected this model Show details

Best ever vacuum – Best vacuum I’ve ever HD suction is very good picks up everything It’s bag less which is very cost effective The power cord is very long only thing is you have to wind it up manually Fairly quiet compared to other models Long extension cord to reach up to the roof and several attachments Show details
Great for carpet – I accidently brought this vacuum by picking up the wrong box didn't realise until I unpacked the box. The vacuum has great suction and is awesome on carpet but would not recommend this vacuum for any floor types it did come with a second head that can be attached to the pole but it is annoying and hard on the arms, Show details
Fabulous – suction is great with this machine compared to our old one hardly makes a noise to start with over time though has started to become louder even though going over the same areas and is somewhat easy to monuvour around furniture not the best for tight spaces though bit of a pain rolling up the cord each use though Show details
BT1 Model Lost Suction Without Visible Cause – We bought a DC33 BT1, second hand. We got it home and found that for no apparent reason, the suction at the base of the machine was gone. No clogs/blockages, leaks, or rips in the hoses. The brush still spins and suction still works at the handle. It's a mystery but makes our purchase completely worthless. Dyson has been no help in fixing the… Read more

So Dissppointed! Dyson DC 33 – Yesterday I was excited to get my new Dyson DC33 home, and today tried vacuuming. It will NOT vacuum any throw rug and or medium weight carpet! It SUCKS! And I just learned it's been recalled and DISCONTINUED! Why would any retail outlets continue to keep it on their shelves. A total waste of time, and will not purchase any Dyson product!! Terrible – I bought this after we owned a much loved DC14, did lots of research about suction, watts etc. I have returned mine once and it needed bearings replaced & have considered returning it several more times as the suction is terrible. with mine adjusting all the filters and it worked well again.
I can use it one day & it will suck fine then next, it won't suck & I have to go through the process of adjusting & clipping the filters in again.
After 3 years of putting up with this I'm done & im putting it out in hard rubbish. Very disappointing Dyson, you've lost a customer. I won't risk another Dyson.

Worth the money for longevity – We have had one of these for 6 years now and have to say it is still going strong. We have only had to replace the powered head and filters. These were marginal in cost compared to a whole new vac and made it run like brand new. Has been excellent for pet hair and allergens which with a young family I feel is very important highly recommend picking one up if considering second hand or other. Show details
Good for dog hair, nothing larger – we bought this because we have 3 dogs and hair is abundant in our house. The reality was it would get stuck and blocked on anything slightly larger than a small stick/piece of lego. the brush also becomes filled with hair easily. i have had it with the repair agent on 2 occasions and it has cost as much in repair as the original vacuum! Powerful but loud – This vacuum cleaner has powerful suction however is very loud. I can't use it in the wee hours of the morning because I'm worried about waking the neighhours up. Because of its upright design, it is not easy to manoeuvre under beds and tight spaces. Apart from that, it does the job well and the stick attachment makes high ceilings easy to reach. Show details
Not up to Dyson standard – I have had Dyson uprights for years ( DC7 & DC14 ) and this is the third model though my last two models are still working!! Although I have always loved my Dyson I feel this model is made more for a cheaper price point. into the hose and feel more flimsy. Unfortunately you can't use the attachments from the previous models as I would use them from my previous cleaners. The suction is still good but as for the rest of the machine just not up to standard sorry Dyson.
It doesn't meet with the requirements of Vacuuming. Having eventually got my first Dyson I have been – How disappointed to have a vacuum that cannot do spaces such as under beds, under kitchen kickbacks, normal small spaces. Customer service terrible- intimated my house not normal. Only solution to send to technicians to see if it meets with specs. In my opinion there should have been clear instructions that it only cleans large spaces with no… Read more
furniture unless you want to wrestle with the tubing and have the machine fall over constantly while using the connections. Terrible service and result. It's not a household machine. No wonder it's discontinued but obviously Dyson is not concerned with customer satisfaction when putting out a defective product.
Poor design – Mine has been back to the shop 3 times in a year for repairs, the last an electrical fault that sent sparks out of the cleaner brush, Very scary on carpet! The extension flex is nearly impossible to use, and the plastics are not as robust as our original DC2, which is still going after over 15 years. Show details

Ok but overpriced – The vacuum was great for the first six months but after that it lost suction, multiple warranty visits later it still didn't work the way it did. sadly I've used better vacuums (and I love Dyson :() this is the third Dyson upright I've owned but sadly I'm not sure my next one will be with Dyson Show details

DOESN'T WORK ON CARPET – When I first purchased my DC33 I was very happy with it. Until, I changed my carpet and the machine now only works backwards. On calling Dyson I was told it is the carpets fault and not the vacuum. What a load of rubbish. Surely it's the vacuums fault? It doesn't work! Show details
Devastated – At 70 years of age I was finally able to afford to lay-by and pay off a Dyson vacuum cleaner. From the Dyson advertisements I thought I had purchased the pinnacle of vacuum cleaners. Very disappointed – I have dreamed about getting my first dyson for years and finely got one with airmiles redemption but what a terrible disappointment. It is rigid, too thick to get under things, don't like how it moves, converts to other tools or other surfaces. Wow I can't believe it made it to market as it wasn't a women who ever demo it. $400 of uselessness – Whom ever designed this vacuum has obviously never used one. And your Quality control.. is obviously non existent..Had my dyson on layby and was so excited when I picked it up..I had wanted one for so long but couldn't afford it..what a disappointment to say the least..its noisy to the point I kept thinking something was wrong, blows fluff and… Read more

been a winner for us with two cats, & to be completly honest tonight was the first time in 3+ years ive cleaned the two filters.....oops. (we always cleaned the barrel but never the other two filters. Yet still the machine hasnt missed a beat! Its vaccumed white rock dust thru to endless catfur. Will definetly buy another dyson!
Dreadful Machine – Machine too loud and too heavy. Machine too high to go under kitchen cupboard overhang near floor - have to use sweeping brush to get at this area. The stretch hose is a "stretch" of the imagination - one would have to be Hercules to pull out and use successfully. I pulled it out to full length, tied around coffee table legs and left for a… Read more
couple of days - made absolutely no difference - still unable to use it. The suction is good for large areas only but one failing is that it doesn't have a "half" suction facility, unlike my old Miele, so it tries to pull up the kitchen linoleum. Perhaps Dyson should consult regular users of vacuum cleaners in order to produce a practical, easy to use machine.
The worst of their range. No suction – This was our 2nd Dyson at the time of purchase and now also have a barrel and portable. This upright should never of made it to market. It's suction is terrible and the dirt just sits there on the floor. I grab our Dyson stick portable and it sucks it straight up. I know it's discontinued now but never should of been put to market to begin with. Heavy loud paper weight.

Pushes dirt around the floor – I was soooo excited to get my first Dyson but have been left sorely disappointed. Instead of picking up the dirt, it pushes it around the floor as soon as its bigger than a speck of dust (appears the head is too low to the ground and it can't suck stuff up). So, you have to pick the machine up and sit it on top of the dirt hence my second… Read more
dislike. The weight. It is REALLY heavy. The head is also so big you can't get under and around furniture.
I was also excited about the wand feature but the retractable hose is so tight that it ends up pulling the whole machine over. I have washed all the filters but am still very disappointed by the suction. I have a really large area to vacuum and have shelved this heavy, cumbersome machine in the cupboard and gone back to the little stick. I will never recommend this or similar product.
Hate hate hate – Had this machine for a couple of years now but rarely use it. Suction is great but I'm Sick of getting attacked by the vacuum when I use the hose. Friends recommended Dyson. Would never buy another Dyson. I Use a cheap vacuum now with great results. Wasted my money on this.
Awesome Machine – I received the Dyson DC33 as an Xmas gift and love it. It is so much easier to use than my old barrel vacuum as I have arthritis in my spine and I now don't have to bent to add pressure when vacuuming. I love the easy to change function from hard floors to carpets as my home is tiles and carpet. The extensions are easy to use and the machine is… Read more
easy to manoeuvre around things. The suction is great and it is amazing how much additional dust and dirt is collected.
Love it, could do with improvements – Bought this from my local big w store The dirt it vacuumed up was amazing Easy to go from carpet to hard floor Main problem I have is when using the attachments the hose isn't very flexible I find you need a bit of strength to use Other than that I do like the dc33 Show reply
It is too heavy! – It is too heavy to move or drag. It is hard to use attachment.(it takes a lot of time for me to clean the furniture or the corners). When I try to vacuum the corners or narrow areas where the normal vacuum head can't reach, it will take another 5minutes to change to one of the attachment and back on normal. The only good about this is suction. So disappointing!
Great Suction,Tough & Durable but Heavy and not flexible – Just bought DC 33 Multi Floor, really satisfied with suction, it is one tough machine, but not for faint hearted, you have to drag it like a huge stone (which I don't mind) so if u r small/old/can't lift heavy don't get it......and It DOES NOT GO UNDER ANYTHING...which is a huge disappointment to me...My Question to Dyson People!!!! why didn't you add an extension to It????Otherwise I would totally recommend it....
