BRILLIANT HAND HELD, WHILE IT WORKED !!! – We have 3 dysons, DC34, DC35 and a 240AC DC33. The 33 is great. The other two, DC34 & DC35 have become useless as they both cut out IE stop, after 5min of running, stop for a second and they will run for another 30sec and stop again, this will go on till one becomes frustrated and give up. WHY ?? these are great and expensive when first… Read more

purchased, NOW they make expensive useless paper weights. Where has Dyson gone wrong ? I purchased these because they were to be the very best on the market, I have tried other good brands but they could not suck the skin off a rice pudding, so hence the Dysons, they had the power, still have, but do not run for long. Out laid good money for what !!! So here they sit, still hold charge, but cannot use. Very disappointed, will I buy another hand held Dyson, not overly likely if this is the problem they give after a few years, not good value for money.

The little Dyson that wouldn't – Our DC34 was great when new, did everything it promised, though we have a Dyson DC08 mains powered for regular cleaning and heavy work. We love the DC08 and it's still sucking strong after probably 15 years. But we gave up on the DC34 a couple of years back when it lost so much battery power that it would barely last 5 minutes without the Max… Read more

button pressed. Then it wouldn't charge at all. Now it sits there, taking up space. I occasionally go back to it, try to re-charge it but now it's so much dead plastic. So 2.5 years from a $250 vacuum; do the maths. Mind you, in our wood-floored holiday cabin we're on our fourth Electrolux rechargeable stick in 10 years, so they're no better. One day somebody will produce a powerful vacuum cleaner with a proper battery and take over the market.

Disappointed – First bought 31/8/2012 Replacement 24/1/2013 Now it won't charge - the light is not coming on Don't know if it is battery or the charger. Now model is discontinued. Having paid so much I would have expected it to last longer than it has. It was good while it worked  Show details

Still going strong! – I've bought this vacuum back in 2011 and it's still going strong today! Battery life may be an issue for household chores but I got it to clean my car back in the day. 1 minor problem I have is that when I'm using the vacuum, the button to dislodge the battery is easily depressed and it cuts the power if I'm not careful. But considering it's… Read more

Found a fix for the vacuum cutting out! – I've had this vac for years and love it, though it started cutting in and out. I found the problem..... when you take the battery out, at the back, it has 3 metal connectors that were pushed in too far and the connection was cutting out when put on certain angles, as these 3 stopped touching the battery connectors. I used a pair of small scissors… Read more

to pull these metal connectors further out than they were. Ta-daaa... fixed in 10 seconds. I hear this is a common issue and they usually tell you to purchase a new battery pack but it's not the battery pack, it's these 3 small metal connectors. Hope this helps!

We're sad it's dying after about 8 years, or is it..???? – We have an upright DC25 Ball Vacuum, from Dyson, but found the hose and fittings a little cumbersome, so we purchased this great little beauty, DC34 Animal, in 2009, when it was first released. We have always had dogs and found vacuuming dog hairs from a Cocker Spaniel (very fine hair) a real chore, until we purchased this Dyson. We used to do our… Read more

own grooming and this has been the only vacuum that can successfully remove those hairs from clothing. We've always had wood combustion fires and, of course, ash escapes each time the door is opened, but the DC34 quickly keeps the surrounding area clean and tidy, especially from 90 degree corners and edges.

Last week when using it, it seemed to stop of its own accord so I disassembled the front end from the motor and housing, cleaned the filter, the cyclone housing and the catchment container. After ensuring all was perfectly dry I assembled it and found it had improved, but although not as frequent as before it still cut out occasionally, so we purchased a Dyson V6 Cord Free from Costco and saved ourselves another $102.

I wouldn't complain because I think 8 years is an acceptable life. However, it's still going and except for an occasional glitch it may last another few years, relegated to be used around the wood fires.

Love this little pack of dynamite – I have been using this little vacuum cleaner for more than three years now. I have had no problems with it and still works great. It needs regular maintenance cleaning once in a couple of months or so and works charms. It's a shame I can't buy a suitable extension so that I don't have to bend my back to clean the carpets. Nevertheless, I still enjoy this little machine.

Great Product – Purchased this product over 3 years ago primarily for use in our Caravan and have been completely satisfied. Stopping and starting never charged enough to vaccum further than my loungeroom – Was advised when buying the product that I have a lifetime warranty- yet the product I bought is discontinued. The machine will constantly die after 30 seconds and will only collect any dust of hair if supercharge is selected. Not 3 years old yet. Loved the product when we first had it especially with asthma and allergies though found it to not be worth the money spent.

This vacuum is excellent except I cleaned the brush bar today to remove the hair and the cap will n – I love this product as it has excellent suction and cleaning capability but when I went to remove the hair from the brush bar and replace the cap it would not lock in again. Now the cap is damaged from the 10 cent coin and I have had to place a piece of masking tape over the cap to continue using the vacuum. My stylish modern vacuum now looks… Read more

cheap. Sent an email to a Dyson awaiting a response. Just feel frustrated as I just spent the last hour trying to lock the cap in. Would like a replacement cap and hopefully this will remedy the issue.

Great news Dyson have contacted me in the last week and have kindly offered to send me a new motorised head as a replacement for the brush cap that will not keep the brush inside the barrel. Just awaiting it in the mail but so happy Dyson made contract to remedy the issue. I bought this item and a barrel vacuum approximately 2 years ago now and definitely the most effective vacuums I have ever used. Would not hesitate to buy this brand again they are the best on the market and offer great after sales service.

Doesn't stay charged very long – I find it really only lasts a minute or so of suction before power dying which is barely enough to get anything done. The max boost button makes it last much less. Could be a battery issue I think... Constantly needing a recharge... now the charger has died ( blew up with smoke). Dyson did send me a new charger for $30 very quickly after calling… Read more

which was good. I feel this is a hard category ( handheld vacuum) to find quality. Dyson does get very expensive for their slightly better products.

Poor battery – My DC 34 Animal's battery has now completely died, nearly eighteen months after the 2-year warranty ran out. (I seem to be luckier than many). It was well-cared for and not at all overworked. I've discovered that a replacement battery costs nearly $80. This is a poor show for what is quite an expensive little machine, especially considering that… Read more

my old handheld Black and Decker - at a third the price - managed to survive trouble-free for 8 years. The Animal was very good - while it lasted - but I think I'll go back to B and D. I'm now looking at my newer, barrel Dyson, wondering which (really expensive) part of it will die first.

Disappointed – I will never buy Dyson again. The latest hand held model we bought for the kitchen for quick clean ups has made more work for me than my old bulky upright or broom. The hand held picks up pet hair and dust okay initially (not fantastic as the rotating brush tends to shuffle crumbs in all different directions), but after about 2 weeks of use, the… Read more

bend of the vaccum cleaner keeps getting plugged up with carpet fibers, dog hair and dust etc. I am forever spending time unplugging it in order for me to use it. I regret buying this hand held contraption. Even more painful was the cost of purchasing this item. It is such a rip off for what you get and I can not even begin to express the frustration of trying to clear our the tube for the thing to work. The other thing that's annoying is that the exhaust of the vaccum is blowing in your face when you vaccum. Dyson really needs to work on this device. It sucks!!

Great hand held vacuum but now cuts out when using it – We have had our DC34 Animal vacuum for 2 & 1/2 years and it has worked great, especially picking up dog hair. For the last 6 months it has started to cut out on Max power setting after 3 sec use. Have to take it to service centre when I can.  Show reply

Not quite what I expected – After years of mediocre vacuum cleaners I sprung for a dyson. From the minute I got it home I had it up and running and saw that the head on the extension kept stopping. Won't buy Dyson again – I bought the dc34 animal approx 16 months ago and the vacuum head just stopped spinning one day, thankfully this was replaced under warranty. The new replacement vacuum head has now done the same thing even though I follow the recommended upkeep of removing hair around the roller each time it's used and washing the filters when reminded by Dyson.… Read more

I have had similar problems with my big Dyson vacuum and have had to have the head replaced on that also. Dyson were kind enough to replace this one free of charge because it was out of warranty but only after I emailed them and said I would never buy a Dyson product again. As this dc34 is out if warranty also, I doubt I would be given another replacement vacuum head free of charge again. Their replacements parts are very expensive and will eventually outweigh the cost of the vacuum if you have to keep replacing them. On a good note when it does work the suction is great but I would not buy a Dyson product again. Great suction and easy to empty chamber Expensive to buy and very expensive replacements part. Very touchy power button and tiring to hold in the "on" position. Rude service centre staff when ringing to get advice...was told it was my bad luck that the vacuum head on the big Dyson vacuum had stopped working. Only replaced as a good will gesture when complained via email.

Don't buy this machine if you have long hair!!! – I've had my DC34 Animal for around 6months and I'm frustrated daily with it... All of my and my little daughters hairs get caught amongst the little brushes in the vacuum head and it's next to impossible to get them out. I find myself at least weekly going at it with a pair of scissors. Such a disappointing design from Dyson! Suction is brilliant! The brush-head and the hairs that get caught in it!

Waste of Money – My Dyson worked for about 3 months, now it stops and starts. I've tried everything suggested and nothing has helped. My mum bought a mini vacumn from Target for $70 and its fantastic. Couldn't get a new one or refund as I didn't keep my receipt. So peeved, a wate of money. My girlfriend has one exactly the same and has the same problem. Not strong enough, stops and starts.

I bought it for the car... but it does everything!! – I bought a new car in March and to keep it looking spick and span I was dragging my big Dyson out to the car constantly. pretty good when you consider its only made for small jobs, not to clean the entire house!

The power head is great for the couch and the car - it can even lift the dried mud out of the floor mats!! I also now vacuum the house with my big Dyson and use the little Dyson to do the skirting boards so I don't have to swap accessories constantly! Also I use it to pick up hair off the bathroom floor, I'm a messy cook so its also great to have in the kitchen for when I drop stuff, and to clean up the horrid boot marks that appear on the carpet by magic when the man is working outside... It does what it says it does. It sucks. Very Well!

Dyson DC Animal – i've had my little Dyson for around a year, this is the second Dyson vacuum we have in our house, and fantastic for cleaning the couches, mattresses and the car. Without having to plug in the full sized one. The battery stays in charge long enough to do my car. Handy, powerful, no need to run electric cords
