18 years old and still going strong. Wish I could buy it again! – I’ve purchased this washer in 2007 or 2008 from HH and it never missed a best! Since being purchased it survived 4 house moves (but I must say all within the same city so no long transits) and a busy family of three people who love their clothes clean! It was used weekly for up to 10 loads each week. The only downside was its smallish size. I… Read more

could not fit doonas and pillows. It still washes well however the seal has become mouldy. Mind you, many a times we’ve left the washing overnight with doors closed! Sadly we need to part with this trusty washer as it is not economical to replace the seal. It never missed a best, had an error message maybe once or twice in its life. Clothes come out fresh and clean.

Great Machine – Best Washing machine I've ever owned. Yes it takes a little longer than most and you probably want to look into those types of things when purchasing. Am now only being faced with a E10 error. I'll look at that soon but it still does a great wash if you treat it as you should. 13 years wow not bad. :) Show details

Hopeless and SO......... Frustrating – I am having endless frustration with this machine of late due to an issue with its hard drive or computer system. When a program is started NO WATER comes through and the machine stalls. I have to go through the process of pressing the Start/Pause button and Skip button etc. in order to restart the machine but the same problem happens again and… Read more

again...NO Water?? The first time I paid to have the the machine serviced by Electrolux only to have the tecnicien report he couldn't find any thing wrong. So the machine came back and worked well again for a few years but now I again have the same issue of water not running into the machine. I am sure it has something to do with the IT programming of this machine. I need help!!!

Still Going Since 2008 – Purchased back in 2008. Used it for approx. 18 months, then due to changing my living situation I ended up placing it in storage for quite a number of years. I recently moved to another house, got the machine out and installed it. Surprisingly it still works well. The machine also survived 2 x moves without the transit bolts in place. quite a number of washes since and all okay. The machine is quiet when washing and noisy when spinning but then most washing machines are like this. Clothes could be a little cleaner but I may simply need to utilise the pre-wash function to fix that. Clothes are rinsed well. I've used a top loader for a number of years which left my clothes feeling soapy after drying (poor rinse function perhaps?) thus I'm happy to be back to the EWF1087.

- Residue: When I first bought the machine I found that clothing had some "residue?" (as some people have referred to as?) or streaks of fluff or something over certain items. I've not seen this problem recently.

Edit: Actually I could be wrong here in relation to the "residue". I think this may have happened with another machine, the first of two I was using whilst this one was in storage.

- Scratchy Towels: I noticed that too but only with certain (thinner) towels.

- Wash Times: some wash cycles are a little too long at around 2 hours. I try to use settings that shorten the overall wash period.

Edit 2:

- Grime/slime in rubber rim: After reading the comments here I checked mine and it too had a thin layer of grime. I simply wiped it clean. It's probably in the manual as part of standard maintenance/cleaning. Good to know though. Not that it caused any issues with the cleanliness of my washing nor smell nor mould. It is probably just a build up of clothing lint and colouring.

Perfect for 6+ years – I've had front loaders for all but 6 months of my life, when I first moved in with my Aussie husband. Soon got rid of his ghastly top loader. So I appreciate that my clothes are looked after better, and washed better in a front loader, and the greatly improved efficiency is a bonus. This machine has always washed really well. It's about 6.5 yrs… Read more ·  1

old now and the cycles have stopped advancing as it should. After reading the issues here, and on a spare part website, we dismantled it and found some burning on the PCB. Hubby used contact cleaner and an old tooth brush to clean up everything visible. There is also a new noise with the drum turning, which only began with the cycle failure two days ago. It seems to be associated with the pump though, not bearings. But reading tells us the two are likely related. We intend to buy a new PCB, and possibly the drain pump too. Spending <$500 to keep this machine alive is reasonable. It's still cheaper than a new machine, and this has served us well so far.

Points of note for the silly folk:

> Liquid detergents won't leave residue, as they don't need to dissolve. And since powders contain twice as much sodium, liquids are far better for the environment too. Ring a liquid manufacturer's customer service and ask them to send you a dosing ball, and then you'll be able to add that straight to the drum. That's what I use. It's much better if using the delay start too.

> Long cycles are a fact with front loaders. That's how they achieve great wash results with low water; they TUMBLE them clean, rather than swim them in tens of litres of water, as top loaders do. However, this machine is very customisable time-wise. I pretty much only use the 'quick wash' option for all fabric types (1h 9mins max, for the cottons wash) but occasionally add an extra rinse. I have great wash results with the quick wash cycle and a mid-range Earth-friendly front loader liquid.

> This machine DOES have a half load option, it just doesn't LOOK like it. People who say it doesn't, clearly haven't read the manual! It is auto-detecting. So instead of telling it you've got a full load or a half load (which is difficult to judge at times because the max for each load type (cottons, delicates, wool, hand wash etc) are all different, as you'd know if you READ THE MANUAL!) so the machine instead detects weight and free water to fill accordingly. That means that you don't just have to choose half and full load, but the machine will treat appropriately a load of ANY size.

> The faster your spin speed, the crunchier the washing will be. It's OBVIOUS when you think about it. Top loaders don't spin as fast, which is a large part of why they don't make towels feel like sand paper. Since I don't like to iron, I deliberately use slower spin speeds so that I can dry clothes SLOWLY on the washing line, which gives enough time for gravity to sort creases out. 700 rpm is the usual. But for towels, there is no making them feel lovely in a front loader. So I spin them at 1000 rpm (the max) and put them in the drier for 15 mins before hanging them out. Perfect. Fast RPM is your enemy if you don't want creases and crunchies. But if you insist, then bring the clothes in before totally dry, and iron them then.

> I don't use fabric conditioners because a) they make the dispenser drawer revolting in ANY front loader, b) they coat the fabrics with a kind of waterproofing (like hair conditioner) and ensure towels are NOT absorbent, c) that coating increases the risk of a skin reaction, particularly if you sweat on the fabrics, or get wet some other way.

> You can open the doors on front loaders, even without the 'forgotten sock' feature. Turn it off at the wall for two minutes, then it will let you in. But look at the water level on the door first… Any reasonable machine nowadays has a forgotten sock function though, it just won't be called that. Read your manual!

> This is NOT a loud front loader. Nor is it unstable. Like all washing machines and fridges, you need to adjust the legs at the bottom and use a level to ensure it sits straight. Anything less than 'level' WILL result in excess noise and movement, as will floors with any movement in them (e.g. timber). The problem isn't the machine… it's the person who installed it and didn't follow basic procedure.

> It's grime/residue at the front of the bowl/seal, not mould.

Unless you're silly enough to leave the machine with the door closed when not in use. In which case YOU haven't read the instruction manual either :-/

Now I just need to keep this one alive a bit longer. And as long as it is cheaper to repair than buy a new one, it IS an economical repair. Wash quality, huge range of options to customise each load, auto load-sensing Nothing. Never had a warranty or extended warranty claim. Will need $200-400 spending on parts this week at 6+ years old, but I think I'm ok with that at this stage.

Electrolux Ecovalve EWF1087 – I just love my machine and it washes really well. i just think it fantastic. I set it to wash through the night and it saves power and great to use. wouldn't open.

I did a Google search found a site which instructed me what to do to get the door open.Very good really but still difficult. easy to take off the top of machine but very difficult to push the latch from inside the machine. I could only see it with the torch and when the door was pushed in. My niece turned up 12yrs and she got her hand it with a pair of nail clippers pushed on it.It was hard to know what direction to push it .It was an answer to prayer to get it open.

It looks like I now cannot use the machine. washes well, no fluff on the cloths , set it to wash at night to save power, really clean cloths, not damaging to cloths the door handle is made with plastic and it snapped and broke. I cant use a beautiful machine

Built like no other – This is a very old unit. The drum fell down and a washer needed replacing, which caused the unit to leak mid cycle. Now repaired and doing a load fine. Keep repairing your Electrolux EWF1087

Perfect machine – Like most reviews I've just read we have had our machine for 16 years and it's been fantastic & has just started giving me an error code occasionally. My husband wants to replace the part he thinks is the issue which I'm keen to give a go as I don't want to part with my machine as I know the new ones are never going to last as long. Keen to go with another Electrolux fingers crossed the next one lasts as long. Show details

quick tribute to a faithful friend – My wife bought this before we met, back in mid-late 00's, and its moved twice with us since, so now 15ish years old, and has barely missed a beat. The door seal needs replacing AGAIN! – In 2011 I had the door seal replaced. Since this time I have wiped out the door seal fastidiously and as I've lived alone for most of the time since, my washing machine is used twice a week. The door seal has degraded and covered my dark clothing in sticky grey rubber 'dust'. Now I've been told it can be repaired in 8 days time. I'm furious!  Show details

Never again – Loud and with issues. Sick to death of having to manually drain to get the door open. Was my first front loader and will be my last. Very disappointed by electrolux a name I thought I could trust. Not only will I not by a front loader but I will not buy electrolux ever again.

Not built to last! – Purchased the EWF1087 washing machine, based on my past purchases. So I'm disappointed that I seem to have the same or similar issue to most other finds on the net. Mine was amazing – I also owned one of these Electrolux washers and it served me well for close to 15 years. Consistently delivering great performance, little noise, and over its lifetime, very little required maintenance. I'm sure call-out fees, labour and spare parts will exceed its future life. Given how loyal its been, I'm surprisingly feeling a little upset about taking it out; but if you happen to own one of these machines - longevity appears to be their big attraction. Thanks Electrolux for a fantastic washer that was. Very rarely does anything last 15 years these days!

PURCHASED 2007 - has never missed a beat - I love it! – Jan 2021: This has been a faithful machine and I never want it to stop - going strong for 13 years. Easy to use, looks after the clothes, especially delicates. Water saving is great. Love the plinthe stand we purchased with the machine - great storage drawer. Small negative is the time taken for larger loads. Show details

it was good – Bought this machine in 2006, no real issues, it worked well and did the job, reasonably quiet, no mold problems, the clothes came out clean and undamaged, this replaced a 12year old Simpson top loader, that did wear the clothes and twist them up, and also used way too much water, will never buy another to loader. It just showed an E50 error, motor problem, so it was replaced with a Beko 7kg.  Show details

Going on 9yrs hasn't missed a beat – I'm proud of myself for buying this washer at the time. Everyone raves about Bosch but this washer takes a pounding from my family. Best machine I have ever had! – I can't understand all these reviews. Unless the newer ones were made better. I have had mine 5 years, absolutely no trouble and perfect. It is a quiet machine. Spins perfectly. Good use of soap. Gentle. Quality made and solid. Shows no change in its function in all these years. Like new. My neighbour has had hers 16 years. It is still good.

Fantastic performance considering bottom of range machine – Bought this model 2006 and it lasted 10 years without a problem. It is a quiet machine and washes well as long as load is kept small. Good value for money. Had a miele before which cost over 3 times as much. The miele was stronger and could handle a larger load but needed 3 service calls (plus parts about $300 a time) in first 10 years.

Noisy, Mould in door seal, ongoing repairs – Hi like many others we have had an unreliable experience. Ours is now 5 years old and the spin cycle has failed. We always purchase the extended 5 year warranty, lucky as we needed it twice, once for the barrel that had broken mounts… Read more

(they also replaced the mouldy seal) and the second time it would not drain (faulty pump). Sadly I cannot justify a call out fee (and parts) and will relegate it to the junk heap, even though it still looks new.

Steer clear of this machine – I have had two of these models. The first failed with a mainboard issue. The second machine failed with an E50 Error which is a motor or associated issue. I'm cutting my losses and dumping it. I'll never buy another Electrolux branded machine again. Steer clear of this brand and you'll save yourself some major headaches and cash.

Electrolux has dropped its standard – Had my first front load electrolux washer 30 years ago, that was a very good machine. We took back a good working 2008 EWF1087 from rental apartment in 2012, it then sat at store room till last month. The washer stopped draining, called out Service person cost over $130, then told the "Electronic board" damaged. Cost over $300 to replace.. So dump this washer for verge collection, it looks brand new though!!

Door seal moulds even when we'll cared for – Always left door ajar and wiped the seal after every use, but haven't been able to stop mould/slime on the seal tried cleaning with vinegar, bi carb etc, no luck. Now getting brown bits on washing. Don't think I would buy same brand again, as this is the second machine same problem. Expect too expensive to repair here in country Victoria. Not a bad machine – My machine has worked ok, never had to have it looked at. The two problems I have are the mould in the door seal, have always left the door open when not in use.....they should tell you to check the seal and clean it monthly etc.The other problem is my towells are coming out like sandpaper...even if I use fluffy etc. So once it starts to cause mechanical problems I wont get another one

We have checked the pump again & again, checked all the hoses and connections & can't find any reason for this problem. Seems the mother board is going. We also battle with mould accumulating in the rubber door seals & the smell is so hard to eradicate, leaving the door open after each use & wiping the seals with vinegar helps but it comes back after a short while. We are pensioners so it is hard to be faced with having to purchase a new machine as it seems the cost of repairs is not worth it in the long run. Very disappointed with this machine.

Electrolux – We have had our Electrolux for 5 years. No trouble. Excellent performance and I really like everything about it. Wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one. Everything works perfectly and is quiet and doesn't leak. Just fill it, check the time till finish and come back then. All done and perfect! Everything! Is economical on water and always reliable.
