Lets see what happens now we have real problems – We love induction cooking, but we had an issue with the first unit installed in 3/2011 which was put down to "overheating". Electrolux replaced the unit in about 2013 (?) which was nice and appropriate but said that we had insufficient air circulation as we did not have a 5mm gap in the draw under the unit. The kitchen manufacturers were unaware of that need, but, after the replacement they removed the drawer under the unit and installed a 30cm x 70 cm vented section in the drawer front. That, with the seepage from the lower drawers would be more than enough to satisfy airflow issues.

The new unit has had its problems in respect of varying cooking temps to non-response to commands, but overall it has been very reliable otherwise until pressed to the extreme when using all heating units at once, it has frozen and needed to be turned of at the power source and restarted.

Now in 3/2017 it has decided to do a "let's really stuff them up" mode. It registers an E8 problem which indicates variable voltage inlfow or the induction unit has given up.

I am about to lodge a service call with Electrolux so stay tuned to see what happens. Buy the way I have never had an issue with the fragility of the unit even though we use Le Cruesent heavy enameled cast iron cookware, I think some people need to be a little less brutal in placing the cookware on a ceramic surface.

Part 2. Had the local service company out, Germon Electrical, smart guy (Troy) did his research on the reported issue with Electrolux before coming. The issue is a command problem which is intermittent. He went away to discuss with Electrolux and see what costs are involved in parts replacement etc., Had a call from Germon who have been discussing the matter with the maker and were able to get a deal to replace the cook top with a new one at a very complimentary reduction in price ($1351) which would be cheaper than the repairs. A very nice bit of work from Germon but I am still very disappointed that these Electrolux units only last just over 4 years. When you are spending in excess of $2000 on a cook top one might expect some respectable longevity.

P.S The 2 units we have had are Model EHD80170P.

Loved it until it died and Electrolux refused to repair or replace – I loved the way this induction stove top functioned and cleaning was a breeze. Then 3 years on the dot the stove stopped working. I wasn't too worried as I has extra cover with Lumley Insurance from Seconds World. A repairman from Electrolux came out barely looked at anything and said not enough ventilation at the top of the cupboards at least 5mm is needed. My cupboards have a 10mm gap running all the way down the length and a huge hole at the back and side of cupboard to pass through all of the electrical wires. After 4 weeks waiting on a response the insurance tells us that more than likely Electrolux will not repair or replace due to lack of ventilation. I have recommended this appliance to so many people I will now recommend that no one goes near this brand again.

Fantastic control – I was a little aprehensive changing to induction from gas but it is a good change. It's a little difficult to get used to the hum of the spinning magnets when the power is on and i don't really like the little electrical beeps that happen every time I change the heat BUT Induction gives amazing heat control and your food is less inclined to stick to the pans.

I make jam and it I can control the amount of boil without risk of burning.

The temperature will even go low enough to melt chocolate without using a double boiler - I've done it.

Cleaning is a breeze as all you have to do is wipe over and dry to look fantastic. Food doesn't cook onto the glass as there is hardly any residual heat around the pan. I even took patty cakes out of the oven and put them on the cooktop to cool next to a pot that was on the heat. Amazing. Good power distribution, Easy to clean, Great control, Beeping noises, I have to turn it on every time I want to cook. Not having protection around the edge of the glass, I have already chipped the corner a little by dropping a heavy pot on it.

Nothing but problems. Eight months on and still problems – I Use to promote induction cooktops for energy Australia when they first came on the market 15 years ago. Just built a new house and decided I would lash out and get the best. Ha what a joke. Had it installed and it wouldn't work. Moved in to our beautiful new house and couldn't cook. Rang Electrolux they referred me to repair company. 5 visits over 2 months 3 elements working. Finally

After complaining they replaced it with new one.

The next one worked for 2 months. Now the largest element won't boil.

Referred back to repair company, and have been waiting 3 months and still not fixed.

Department of fair trading next.

Do yourself a favour and steer clear of this brand.

Very disappointing but their oven is great. The elements that do work are fantastic. But for how long. Elements always playing up.

Best cooktop ever owned – When the horrid halogen cook-top died I went for induction as we don't have gas here. It is so quick to boil water and copes with a wok no problem. The timer is a godsend, no more overcooking. I would buy another of these in a heartbeat. I don't have big fingers but getting correct heat setting number on the touch slide can be hit and miss. Also I had to buy whole new pots and pans set to suit induction. Time and energy efficient. Smell of hot plastic from beneath when in use
