I have had this fridge for 20 years and it has never ever had an issue. Today my fridge died and I couldn't have been happier with it's performance over the past 20 years. If I could I would buy the exact sam fridge again. They do not make them like that any more Show details
Still going, even in Tropics – Confusingly this fridge is branded with both Electrolux and Kelvinator. Mine is also over 13 years old and hasn't missed a beat in Darwin where the room never goes below 25C and gets above 37C. Hinges are fine. Seals are grotty but still functional. Hinged transparent tops on cheese and egg sections broke in the first year. Had to replace the… Read more
light bulb. E14 25W is less than $3 at most hardwares and you can even get LED replacements now just as cheaply. $3 maintenance in 13 years is pretty good. Coincidentially, I have an even older but fully functional Kelvinator Opal as a beer fridge on the verandah which gets some sun. In contrast, in the same period of time, two Fisher and Paykels have died of heat exhastion.
Reliable and good value for money – We purchased this fridge 13 years ago. I can't really fault it. It hasn't broken down and it's basically been in operation for 13 years. The cheese covers have broken off due to people attempting to close the door before closing the lid.The door seals are now showing their age and I'll have to have them replaced at some stage. The door has dropped… Read more
but will still seal effectively. The problem with the door I've found is that when people open the door they tend to place their right hand on the top of the door and lean on it as the bend in to pick up what ever they're getting from the fridge over time this will overload the hinges.
Bad Weak Door – The hinges wear out prematurely. Ours is about 5years old and 6 months ago the door stopped closing properly. Trying to get a spare was an expensive difficult exercise!! I managed to get an extra 6 months out of the door by simply switching the top hinge to the bottom. But now that has worn out too and the door has to be forced closed. So I… Read more
stumbled across this site while trying to find new hinges.
I wonder how many others have had this problem??
Shame on you Electrolux.
You should send everyone who has this fridge new sturdier hinges.
My advice: Don't buy this fridge!
Big, reliable and practical – Really happy with this fridge. Must be around 8 years old and it just works and does what a fridge should. Only issue we've had is the interior light blew I think around 2 years old and we've never replaced it for some reason. Doors still feel good and all seals holding up well. Show reply
Door No Good – Cant believe the door is unbale to carry the available capacity, it does not handle the weight of 9 litres of milk, the door hinge gave up, the seals are nearly shot and as it wont shut correctly electricity bill increased, new fridge door is $340, might just by a different brand fridge. Very disappointed Good size Fridge door hinge can't hold available capacity
Good – Very reliable fridge have had ours for 2 years now and no problems. the door has plenty of storage room for soft drinks and milk the fridge keeps my beer cold also Very large capacity to hold all the weeks food I would like to know where the light bulb is so I can replace it, to change temp. when top tray is full is so tricky, you have to take most items out. The dairy compartment lid has broken off.
Terrible – Has anyone else had probs with this door giving up so soon? Has anyone else been told they don't make these doors anymore? Keeps food cold. After 3 years, the door mounting system disintergrated. We were told by service provider that door needed replacing, approx $400. Next we're told door model no longer available. Can't find purchase receipt and waiting on retailer to send me copy. Looks like I'll be claiming statutory warrenty.
Excellent – Really solid fridge at a good price, the doors are reversible, easy to clean glass shelves and a good energy star rating Great size, I recommend getting the biggest fridge you can fit. This one has been a gem in terms of fitting a weeks worth of food + enough space for entertaining dishes. The special chilled meat tray is great also for storing… Read more
uncooked meat. Slightly noisy when the compressor kicks in, but this is really only nitpicking.
The fridge has been running perfectly for a year
Good – This fridge has been reliable and apart from minor problems above has not given us any problems. The energay star rating and kwH are one of the best for this size fridge at a reasonable price. Electrolux is a sturdy, reliable brand. I have my parents old pigeon pair in shed in country - 30 years old and going strong. Capacity, I can buy bulk… Read more
specials and freeze for later. Glass shelves are the easiest I have ever cleaned. Chilled meat tray is unreal for separating and defrosting meat. Can be noisy when the compressor kicks in. The dairy compartment covers both broke off within the first year and are costly and difficult to replace. Door seals can also be a bit iffy. Access to temperature controls once top shelf is filled can be tricky, but once set you shouldn't have to adjust much.
