Just Fantastic – We bought our Electrolux EWF1090 in 2002 and have been using it several times a week ever since. It is often loaded with more than the rated 8kg of washing but has never complained. Now in 2019 after 17 years of faultless service it starting to sound a little noisy on the spin cycle which sounds as though the springs that hold the drum in place need adjusting but wow what amazing service. Show details

New review - Same old problem - Built in redundancy – To echo a well documented issue with this machine our's was in great condition inside and out, then the door started to make a buzzing noise, then jammed.. turned it off at the mains, waited 10 minutes and turned back on, door jams, no electronics, next power reset the door releases and the whole thing seizes up. This post "Door Jam = total… Read more

destruction of electronics..." details it better than I could, same problem and same conclusion here.

As an industrial designer it disgusts me when repairing a device is actively discouraged and obsolescence built into a product - this machine is going to make a huge footprint at a landfill site all because of some obvious weak links in the circuit board and powersupply. Would be great if Electrolux considered their environmental responsibility when designing a cubic meter of landfill

UPDATE:

I gave Electrolux the opportunity to review the product themselves to identify the fault and got a stone wall - they won't even acknowledge the well documented fault.

Instead, I was requested to pay $148 for them to inspect their fault workmanship and parts costs to likely follow.

Most frustrating was the brief responses to my emails which were detailed.. all 3 of them.

I refuse to chase good money after bad and decided to buy a german made bosch on sale at david jones for $850- down from $1599

Will stick to my promise to customer service and inform everyone i know to never buy an electrolux.

EWF1092 – I have had this washing machine for over 5 years & have had no problem at all with it. My purpose for buying it was the water saving aspect and for washing QS bedding.

Lasted 10 yrs but – Very noisy on spin, which we had looked at, no reason found and didn't improve when in new laundry. Multiple Breakdowns, usually coins stuck, improved after we managed to get it modified so not so easy for coins to jam. Lasted 10 yrs, which is probably normal these days. needed new drum, too expensive to repair.  Show details

Lasted over 7 Years – Our Electrolux front loader EWF 1090 operated without any problems apart from a blocked hose until about 6 months ago. Wouldn't finish a cycle - jumped like crazy, sounded like the drum was banging on something and stopped in mid cycle. The exterior of the unit looks like new. careful to enter light loads. Cost about $200. However the same problems persisted. An Electrolux technician then spent about 10 minutes looking at it and announced that it needed a new engine OR a new board or both; he couldn't tell. Service call $140 odd. Parts nearly $500. Given the problems that I have read about in these product reviews, I will be steering clear of buying Electrolux in the future

Don't think I could trust Electrolux again! – My washer is 7 years old and has just stopped working after I started a cycle. Absolutely no power at all, so as it is out of warranty I took the cover off and there was a wire completely burnt off from the connection, it is lucky to not have caught fire and possibly done a lot of damage to the house. I also had the motor replaced twice under… Read more

warranty, thankfully I took the extended 5 year warranty.

I had a quote from Electrolux of $160 for the call out plus parts. I found the power controller online for $180 so it will be $340 to fix, if it is only the power controller.

When the machine was working, it did wash the clothes really well, although it was really loud.

Door Jam = total destruction of electronics – We have had the machine for about 3ish years (so well out of warranty) and the door jammed and took out the solenoid driver which took out the power supply... If you read through the reviews it is a farily common complaint. I am an electronics engineer and got my way through Uni fixing all manner of stuff so thought that I would give it a go...… Read more

The main circuit board was basically totally cactus and a new one is $200, the solenoid is another $100 + shipping + GST so comes in at over $350... I was going to give it a go but the Wife just bought a new machine (needless to say that it wasn't and Electrolux) -- i suppose the inbuilt obsolescence is working well from their perspective but it certainly isn't green when it lasts such a short period of time and has to be replaced! It is a bit sad that no level of circuit protection has been provided for at all... The actual body etc. was really in good condition and no rust... Worked fine for three years Simple failure escalated through the entire electronic control system... to expensive to repair

phone to discuss any technical questions (ie re performance, design and how to poss fix a machine issue). My machine will not spin, empty water completely or do a complete wash on every cycle. Not worth paying $200 to get someone out to pronounce it unfit for repair. The space between the drum and side of machine is large enough to fit small items trough such as buttons that come off shirts. The shaft that these are expelled through is too small for these to be ejected, this means you are not able to remove them yourselves. Why pay $200 for someone to come out when you can put it towards a new machine, namely another brand machine. Simpson is owned by them also so will not buy one of these either.

Why show that Electrolux actively monitor this site as they only give their standard replies saying how sorry to hear that someone has a problem and to contact them. I contacted them and as it is out of warranty it will cost me $200 to just look at machine and my questions go unanswered as to fault finding.

This is a design fault, they have rectified it somewhat I read in the future models but as for any help regarding fault finding you need to start the process with $200 as they will not offer any help on the phone as their technical people are 'Not Allowed" to speak to you.

Unreliable, no telephone help for technical issues, poorly designed

It was very good while it lasted! – I have had this machine for 5 years with out any problems and have enjoyed using and owning it. I think I paid about $850. Recently it just stopped working. cut power if the control board was arching which makes me question the safety of the design.

With the tub full of dry clothing there is more than enough fuel for a decent fire. I am so glad I had a look when the machine stopped working because if I had of left the power on and walked away, with the control board arching there was some potential for a fire.

I am very disappointed the control board died after five years as it has been a great product. I only used it once a week and after paying $850 I expect it should last at least 10 years. It turned out costing about $3.40 a wash. Not good value! Easy to use, the timed delay is useful, the time save, temperature, and spin controls were great features which I used all the time. The machine stopped working after 5 years, The control board shorting out and was arching. I would expect the system to have a fuse to cut the power when the control board failed and was arching.

apparent the original model was a dud. After contacting the state manager and showing him these reviews, our machine was swapped out for this model. It is noisy, often doesn't spin out the clothes and I come home to clothes sitting in water. The seal on the front is damaged and that is certainly not due to overloading. I am very disappointed with this machine. Unfortunately we can't afford to upgrade at that moment, so are stuck with an inferior machine. Kids in the house but no machine – We purchased machine end 2006/beg 2007 and about 2 months ago it suddenly decided to stop spinning. repair man - $125.00 later.

Put washing on same day, starts great and off I go. Come back and clothes not washed and not spun out. AGAIN same issue. Call repair guy back. Comes few days later, belt off again and to be sure we check that the motor is still attached (not hanging or broken off) and definitely no smell from the machine to indicate burn out etc.

To please me he changes to a new belt. We test - works. But hang on - I add a few items of clothing this time and voila, within 5-7min you see the drum skip a beat, then spin and skip a beat and stop altogether. Guy can no longer help. He said it could be that the 'spider' (I gather this is some type of frame holding the drum?) has snapped. How in the hell does that happen?

Called Electrolux and advised call out (can't remember exactly) about $95.00 (incl first 15min labour) and then I think about $35 per 15min thereafter.

Here is my dilemma - I have NO idea what the problem is until I pay the money, after which I could be told that that it is either irreparable or the part is too expensive. Trouble is if I waste this money, add that to the first call out I'm over $200 short towards a new machine - money I certainly don't have to throw around. (It is now almost 2 months that I'm without a machine). What on earth do I do?

I would expect purchases such as good washing machines give you at least 10 yrs and great washing machines at least 15 - 20 years.

For the record - my machine doesn't wobble or bounce around the floor, nor do I wash blankets or doonas to suggest heavy load in 8kg capacity machine. Nothing jamming it either as you cannot get in under machine from the floor.

Can't afford to purchase lesser capacity - growing family but the 8kg out there are really very pricey atm.

Is there not something in the Trade Practices Act (for purchases prior to 2011) to protect me. Afterall if it is the bracket/frame etc that I don't consider to be a wearable part like the motor. This isn't a small appliances and should really last longer than these 6 years. The last Simpson Top Loader lasted my household over 20yrs and that is no fib.

Also, why can't our repairers do what some in the U.S. do. If it can't be repaired then the cost of your service will go towards reducing the cost of your new purchase with the same manufacturer?

BTW - if it is something as simple as a coin HOW DO I GET IT OUT MYSELF and not have to spend money I don't have to get a repairer out? Was a quiet fantastic machine. Shortest cycle 30min. Drum wont spin, belt keeps slipping off and drum turn skipping a beat.

Works beautifully! – I have had this washer for more than 6 years and am very happy with it. Being in a share laundry without hot water, I love that it heats up the cold itself, something that not all front loaders do. Having small children who make their clothes absolutely filthy, I am delighted to be able to add a prewash as well as an extra rinse to most cycles so that soap residue can be rinsed more thoroughly. The clothes always come out very clean. It has had a lot of use too, often doing 3 loads back to back.

I've also washed woollens which have come out beautifully. And being a larger capacity machine I often wash doonas and blankets with no problem at all.

A few times coins have become stuck - I've never had a technician out, I've just removed them myself from the bottom hatch.

The only thing I think might be a problem is that the motor tends to overheat if the laundry is too hot (remember I'm in a share laundry and other dryers in there heat the place up sometimes) but it seems to come right a few hours later. I hope this doesn't mean it's on the way out!

I'm really not sure why so many people have posted bad reviews - maybe I'm just lucky but I'm very happy with this as a family washer. Large capacity, gentle on clothes, love the 30 min cycle Motor can overheat occasionally
