Envirosafe Fly Trap

Yes it catches flies but the foul stench is unbearable. What's the point of having a BBQ and the smell of the meat your cooking is overpowered by the most vile, putred stench of a rotting corpse outside. Honestly, I'd rather put up with the flies than the decaying, pungent oder of an infested dog's butt! Show details

HAVE USED THESE. I HAVE BURIED THAT USED LIQUID SOLUTION IN AN AREA OF MY GARDEN. BURIED IT DEEPER THAN WHAT IS RECOMMENDED IN THE INSTRUCTIONS - BECAUSE OF THE PUTRID SMELL.
1. That liquid solution only effectively kills ADULT FLYS!! It literally has no lethal effects on whatever eggs are already being carried by female flies caught in the traps. It doesn't kill those eggs. It doesn't even kill those maggots that hatch out of the eggs. So in hours, maggots hatch within the traps, feeding on all those dead flies and then the traps have to be emptied, cleaned out and refilled within hours, EVERY DAY. Refills for these traps are extremely expensive to buy, week after week.
2. Envirosafe claims that the used liquid solution for these traps is great to use to bury deep in your garden bed etc, to improve the quality of soil etc etc etc. THAT IT IS NON TOXIC. THIS IS A LIE. IT IS TOXIC. DO NOT DO THIS. DO NOT BURY IT IN YOUR GARDEN BEDS OR ANYWHERE ELSE. WHAT WILL HAPPEN, INSTEAD. IT WILL COMPLETELY RUIN YOUR GARDEN BED ETC. THAT LIQUID SOLUTION IS TOXIC TO PLANTS ETC, IT WILL KILL WHATEVER PLANTS ETC YOU HAVE GROWING THERE. BUT THE WEEDS WILL GROW LIKE CRAZY. IT WILL TURN IT ALL INTO FRESH BREEDING GROUNDS FOR FLIES AND MAGGOTS. YOU'LL END UP WITH SUCH A PUTRID REEKING INFESTATION OF FLIES AND MAGGOTS, RUNNING EVERYWHERE, INCLUDING IN THE ROOTS OF ALL THOSE DEAD PLANTS ETC THEY'LL EVEN END UP NESTING IN ANY POTTED PLANTS, THAT YOU MAY HAVE NEAR THAT AREA. BECAUSE MAGGOTS CAN TRAVEL SOME DISTANCE. RESULT: YOU WILL HAVE TO RIP UP THE WHOLE CONTAMINATED AREA, ALONG WITH PLANTS ETC - POTTED OR OTHERWISE - BAG ALL THAT STINKING REEKING MESS UP AND HAVE IT ALL REMOVED TO A RUBBISH DUMP. THEN REPLACE AND REDO EVERYTHING WITH NEW SOIL ETC. BUY NEW PLANTS ETC ETC.
BASICALLY, BE VERY PREPARED TO SPEND A HELL OF MONEY TO FIX THE MESS CAUSED!!!
3. ENVIROSAFE CLAIMS THAT LIQUID SOLUTION IS NON TOXIC AND WILL NOT HARM PETS, ANIMALS ETC ETC. THIS IS A LIE. THAT LIQUID SOLUTION IS ACTUALLY TOXIC TO ANIMALS ETC, IF THEY GET EXPOSURE TO ANY OF IT!!! EVEN A LITTLE AMOUNT CAN CAUSE AN ANIMAL TO BE VIOLENTLY SICK. A LITTLE EXPOSURE BY ACCIDENT, FROM IT, CAUSED MY PETS TO BE VIOLENTLY SICK.
SO. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. YOU WILL END UP PAYING WAY MORE, FOR THE MESS THAT IS CAUSED.
AGAIN. Envirosafe Fly Traps. WARNING: DO NOT BURY ANY OF THIS SH*T IN YOUR GARDENS OR LAWNS. IT WILL WRECK THEM AND TURN THEM INTO NEW BREEDING GROUNDS FOR FLIES AND MAGGOTS. THESE WILL THEN INFEST ALL YOUR POT PLANTS AND OTHER AREAS. YOU WILL PAY EXPENSIVE COSTS FOR REPLACING EVERYTHING, AFTERWARDS. QUADRUPLE BAG UP THIS CRAP AND PUT TO RUBBISH, IMMEDIATELY. Don't waste your money. Why? These are a rip off.
SO. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. YOU WILL END UP PAYING WAY MORE FOR THE MESS THAT IS CAUSED.

Initially worked, bulk baits don't – When I first bought the trap and used the bait that came with it, it worked well. I then bought a 36 pack of baits and for the past few months have changed the bait maybe 20 times. None of the baits have worked Anywhere near what the first ones did. At the moment there is no smell from the trap and just muddy stained liquid with one fly visible,… Read more
less than 5 meters away is a dog poo covered in blowflies. Maybe they had a bad batch, but I won't waste my money on baits again.

Envirosafe trap works extremely well in the hot NQ conditions – We have had some extremely hot humid weather in the Jan/Feb 2024 time span here in N Qld. My wife is on chemo so that last thing we want is sickness in our household ,caused by the flies. I have had bought Envirosafe traps for years and know they work well up here . As we want to kill the maximum amount of flies I purchased a Jumbo trap. Do… Read more
not put the trap the near the back door. It will draw the flies near your door. Place it away from the house. The instructions say so.
The picture tells the story-if I can work out how to post it. I believe ambient heat temperature makes a big difference as well as reading and following the instructions particularly after re use, clean thoroughly and re bait. Also I have ordered the bulk refill. I'll let you know how that goes.
FlyTrap is a Money Trap – In December 2022, I purchased 6 flytraps for a total of $12. This year, however, I acquired two more at $9.91 each, marking a significant price increase. While these flytraps effectively catch hundreds of flies on my patio, a recent incident left me dealing with a messy situation. I neglected to empty one of the flytrap bottles for five days,… Read more
resulting in the emergence of hundreds of maggots from the accumulated dead flies. It was a disgusting and smelly mess, hard to get rid of them that's for sure.
In an effort to reduce the costs associated with flytraps, I conducted research, counting dead flies and experimenting with new methods. Recently, I discovered a cost-effective alternative. I distributed the sachet powder mixed with water, that comes with the flytraps, into three 600 mL plastic water bottles. Surprisingly, they proved to be just as effective as the original containers sold at Bunnings, trapping a few hundred flies promptly this morning.
However, an interesting revelation occurred when I left the original flytrap container on the patio table without water or sachet powder. Within a few hours, it trapped 26 flies! I shook the container sideways to stun or knock out the flies, causing them to fall to the bottom. With a quick spray of pesticide upon opening the lid, they were swiftly eliminated. What caught my attention was the yellow and black lid; I now wonder if it is that which attracts the flies in the first place, as this empty container proved unexpectedly effective?
Does not work with Tassie flies! Smells so bad I would rather have the flies it doesn't catch – I had it up for 3 days on my deck (which is inundated with flies) results: * Really bad smell! I thought we had a backed up sewer drain! * It caught a grand total of ZERO flies! Note: When freshly made it smells a bit like chicken soup! In the interest of science I moved it next to the bins for a week where it caught a further 0 flies! … Read more
Conclusion: While this has many good reviews so it must work with some flies it clearly does not work with Tasmanian flies. I am certain that putting a bit of rotting meat in some water or some raw sewage in the jar would both smell better and catch more flies!
Note: The wasp version of this catches both flies and wasps but smells even worse and seems to draw flies into areas that doesn't normally have them! I will do a separate review
Smells so bad but works so well! – I have it near my chicken coop which is crazy with flies on hot days. This is pretty gross and there are occasional rows as to who gets to empty it! But it works so well; better than anything else I’ve tried. Awesome! Show details
Death to flies – Can't believe how many flies in the trap after EIGHT days. Love this product. My neighbor has never seen anything like it before and is going to get one for his yard. Show details

Replacement sachet bat does not work in our experience – Initially brought the trap that comes with a single sachet. These worked so well the fly trap filled up with flies within days. So brought 5 large jumbo fly traps, and again these filled up within days as neighbors have dogs, horses whose waste allow flies to lay eggs. The fly traps did make a difference, but when buying replacement sachets from… Read more
a shop they didn’t work, the green water turned brown within a few days and after 2 weeks not one fly caught by 8 fly traps . So after spending 50 dollars on more bait we again found it did not work.
Are the boxes of replacement bait the same as those packed with the traps themselves as the efficacy of them varies? Is there a shelf life to the replacement bait, as maybe the bait goes past its sell by date? Are their non-genuine bait being sold as the bait being sold as the genuine article? One traps is even near the neighbors horses and it has caught not one fly. Where using the sachet supplied with the trap it caught hundreds within 2 days.
I did contact Enviro-safe to try to buy them direct in case non genuine Enviro-safe sachet were being sold as the genuine articles, but Enviro-safe referred me back to the shop that sold the sachets that did not work.
How do you explain the discrepancy???
I can no longer recommend Enviro safe product as in my experience the replacement sachets we brought did not work at all.
Works great! – I live on the Gold Coast with a large dog that poops in the yard (naturally). Also, our neighbour has some sort of flowering tree that attracts lots of flies when the flowers drop over our yard. Sometimes when out in the yard all I hear is a "humming" of flies that eventually can (and do) make their way into the house. I bought 2 of these fly… Read more
traps and followed the instructions and left them on the ground in full sunlight. I couldn't believe it when I checked them the next day there were about 200 hundred flies that had met their fate.
I had to change them, and thought, stuff it, I'm gonna buy a jumbo size which I did. It's been about 1 hour and their are heaps of flies already caught in it.
I can only surmise that these numbers will decrease over the next few days and our problem will be manageable or hopefully gone for the summer if they are maintained properly. I only wish I had thought of this earlier!!!
P.S I don't know why people are whining about the smell if they are placing these traps in their house - they are meant for OUTDOOR use only! Also, place them AWAY from the house so flies aren't hanging around the doors and window areas. Simple...
Great fly trap as sold - but fantastic with some modifications – I bought one of these traps several months ago and found it worked very well. However I noticed some flies crawling back out of the holes in the lid. Tried a couple of ideas and they helped to catch more flies. For the last modification I did I machined up some thin wall aluminium tubes and inserted them in the holes in the lid after drilling… Read more
out the bottom of the holes in the lid slightly to fit the tubes.
The bottom of these tubes project down about 25mm below the bottom of the lid.
The inside and outside of the tubes were sprayed with matt black paint.
Then I added a "brim" 5 inches diameter made of thin plywood to the domed cap, epoxied it and painted it all matt black on the underside. I painted mine white on top side but can be any colour.
The "brim" was to reduce significantly the amount of light showing down the holes - since flies are attracted to both light and smell.
The bottle is now filling with flies about 50% faster than before since they are now not finding their way back out again.

Excellent but – The product is excellent at attracting flies. However, after just 2 days, it starts to smell: I had to move the indoor one outside, as the smell was quite awful. I will still keep using it, but will have to make sure it is in an isolated spot, away from my outdoor seating area.
Fantastic product – Have been using these fly traps for years, we could not sit out the back in summer without them, we have two going simultaneously, they do smell terribly but we hang them in trees away from the house, when full we just empty and bury in the garden, I cannot believe there are people that are not happy with the product,

Disposal – The product seems to be working well. I'm wondering has anyone disposed waste in compost? as it states in instructions is safe to do so. If so what was the result. Brenton.
Negative reviews
Waste of money – Really does not work at all. I put this in an area with many flies that are clearly not even slightly attracted to this bait. Not even one fly flew inside all day, not even by fluke. Show details
Doesn’t work on tasssie flies – Having had enough of the flies on our deck I bought 6 of these and only one has caught 5 flies. The rest have hundreds of flies buzzing past and not a single one in it. Dont recommend Show details
Can't stand the smell – Instructions advise that you only need to change sachets every 2 - 3 weeks, 2 weeks in summer but I can't stand the disgusting smell after just 4 days and the weather hasn't even been that warm, I hate to think what it would smell like after a few 30+ degree days. Yes, it catches flies, but I had to move it a fair distance from the house because… Read more
of the increasingly foul smell so it defeats the purpose if you are trying to keep flies out of the kitchen and even then, when I spend time in our garden the smell is always there wafting around. Too expensive if you need to change every week, and the smell would still be present after just a few days, not worth it for me.

Catches flies within a few minutes – I tried the home-made remedy and trap (from youtube) and didn't catch any flies. So I thought I would try the Envirosafe Fly Trap, I was sceptical and bought just one to try out. Wow, within minutes of putting it out, it caught 6 flies. I am more than happy with this product and will buy another one for a different area. Not sure what… Read more
ingredients they use for the lure, it's very effective. Info on pack states the lure is non-toxic, pesticide free and pet safe.
Works very well – Works very well on horse flies that drive the dog and I crazy. The Australian made product called magna is a lot cheaper but just does not work at all. The only criticism I have is the plastic bottle base is flimsy and brittle but with a bit of searching a glass jar will substitute eg roasted capsicum. Also probably not suitable for indoors use. After Sales is a JOKE - All talk and no action – Have used product previously. Recently purchased (March 2022) and product looked different (darker green) than previously. Did not seem to be as effective. Contacted Envirosafe. They said would send replacement sachets but never did (now 1+ months later). Like I said, all talk no action. Show details

Absolutely guaranteed to work – OMG this works so well. In 3 weeks we half filled the trap. Solid with drowned and dead flies. They just keep coming. They get in and cannot escape. Only downside is the deathly stench of the liquid that attracts them once it ferments from a vivid green into a pale blue after a few days. . Great Product – Purchased two from Bunnings a week ago. It works too well. I can't help but think we're attracting more flies that we would normally have. Who really knows. Starts to smell unpleasant after a few days of filling up. Think chicken coup. Show details
Didn’t work apart from a few minuscule fruit flies – So ineffective - even a fly sauntering next to it - with no other tempting smell sources around - just walked off in the opposite direction. The four holes in the top at are too small for larger flies. For me, a total dud despite following the instructions. From Bunnings - doubt they will refund a used item. Wonder what the common denominator is in those reviews that are positive? Show details
Effective at catching. However the smell! – Very effective catching flies. However, the smell. Even after 4 days, I was planting near it (about 30cm) and it’s repulsive. Can’t imagine it after a week or two. Have thrown it out triple bagged. Show details
Chickens in a happy place – It's summer and we have a couple of chickens, this equals flies. I bought four traps ( 2 in a pack)and put two in the chicken run and the other two in different areas of the garden. All have worked perfectly. water and fresh sachets. With the huge number of flies that I'm catching, I'm hoping to reduce the world's population. Just need something as simple and effective for mozzies at night time.
My life has changed – I have many cats. Regularly washing the washing pavers. But way too many flies. Couldn't even sit outside to eat or drink. Now day 1..... my life is perfect. Not a fly on my or anything. Put them uo today for Christmas lunch. Can eat in peace now. Show details
Attracts more flies to the property – Works well - too well in fact. I have clouds of flies buzzing around them… and they still come in the house. I think I’m attracting all the flies in the neighbourhood and when I empty them in the green bin, it too gets covered in flies and black fly spots. Yes, the plastic is also flimsy and not lasting more than 1 season - more plastic in landfill as a result. Show details
It's works but not as good as I once thought – Edited from a 4 star to 2 star. Had it for about a week and it caught 50+ flies, doesn't smell overly bad like others other reviewers have mentioned(edit: yes it does). Not sure if it brings in more flies to the area than what would have been normally here but the results are good (edit: it never seems to reduce the amount of flies I have hanging… Read more
around but it does catch a lot). Also the bait turned from green to blue one day, not sure what that means though. (Edit: I kind of don’t recommend this product, yes it catches them but it never reduces the overall amount of flies hanging around)
Didn't work at all – - didn't catch anything - stunk out the house (the worse rotten egg smell, and very very strong) - I think the smell is meant to attract flies, but it doesn't seem to work - flies and moths continued to fly in my now stinky house - waste of money and time buying it Show details
Don't know whats in the chemical, but after one fly has died in green chemical, a lot more flies will go in and die – Bought it from Bunnings Aust. Have used it in the past, to very high success. First, no flies will go in, then one fly goes in, and buzzes, then dies in the liquid. After it goes to about 10 dead flies, it fills up quite fast. 2 sizes are great to have too. 100/100. No proper information on active ingredients – Unfortunately I'm sitting at the emergency vets with my dog who has just eaten a sachet of the bait. The vet and myself are unable to find what the active ingredient is in your product. Because of this we have had to induce vomiting as a precaution. Which could have been avoided if your imformation was readily available. I would expect that if the public isn't privy to this information, then at least medical personnel would be.
