Don't Buy Fisher and Parkel Induction Cooktop because it doesn't work and they wont replace it – DO NOT BUY a Fisher and Parkel induction cooktop (CE604DTB1) because it doesn't work and they won't replace it. We even had a rep come to our home, see that it didn't work properly(yes one plate boils water) and then he sent us a text message with some techno babble saying that we needed cast iron cookware. We have Swisse-tech pro and Baccarat… Read more

(both of which worked at our last home and were $100 a pot) We actually paid extra to have an induction cooktop in our new McDonald Jones Home and four months later we have no cooktop in a brand new kitchen. None of our family or friends can believe this!

Useless and strange operation – Takes 30 mins on high to boil a pot of water for pasta. Does not work. The way this cooktop works is there are only 2 settings - on and off. On a low setting the cooktop turns onto high every 20 seconds or so. On a high setting it turns on every 5 seconds. This means there is no real control of the heat and uses time to adjust the temperature. The… Read more

older types use to have some variability with the heat, this unit does not. It’s not a unit for anyone that cooks regularly. Don’t waste your money. Whoever came up with this design?

Happy not happy – Will start off by saying that I am a fan and user of F&P products. I have the F&P cooktop, PYROLYTIC SELF-CLEANING wall oven, dishwasher, two fridges, a front-loading washing machine and a clothes dryer. Bought this cooktop nearly five years ago and almost immediately after it was installed we wished we had opted for an induction model. It is… Read more

very slow to heat up and can be tricky to maintain a constant heat on the hotplate/s without moving the pot or pan around. My man hates cooking on it. I can live with it, but it's not particularly efficient or fast.

On the plus side it's easy to clean and always looks good.

Today I have accidentally knocked over a little teapot that was sitting about two feet away from the cooktop. The tiny lid of the teapot tapped the edge of the glass cooktop and chipped a wee piece (barely 1cm) out of the very edge of the cooktop, To my dismay, I've been advised by F&P and a local registered repairer that the entire glass top has to be replaced! At a cost of more than $400. What?! Why isn't the glass on this product more robust!? It was honestly just a little tap on the side edging. It would be different if something had been dropped onto the cooktop, but that was not the case. Am even more disappointed in this product now.

UPDATE: Glass top was replaced and we continued to use it, but then decided to upgrade to induction at the end of 2025. It was still working well but in truth I was barely using it any more. Goodbye cooktop.

Terrible – I have bought many fisher & paykel products in the past but this cooktop scratched easily, despite my tenant's careful handling of it. The customer service centre advised that special care and special saucepans were needed, and if a rental property then it would be best for me to buy the saucepans for them! If it is that precious it is not… Read more

suitable. The product was just 12 months old when I sent photos and after many calls and emails, the technician finally came to look at it and then I heard nothing more. After many more calls and emails (six weeks later) I have been told I have to fork out the cost of a new glass top and the labour. Sadly if it is this much trouble I wont be bothering with any more fisher and paykel products - it is too much cost and effort.

lots of problems – We had a lot of problems when we bought it and the technicians were not helpful. After an ongoing series of revisits they finally managed to replace the faulty part. It now has a crack in it on the top left hand corner and I may now have to totally replace it. I believe it has worked quite well after the final repair.  Show details

Dreadful-Problems since day one – Installed with kitchen reno Feb this year. Has never worked properly since day one. Constantly stops working with varying error codes. Service tech has been three times in as many months, have to wait one to two weeks to get service each time Replaced control unit a week ago and has stopped working again!! An absolute disaster and still no working cooktop.  Show details

Disappointed – Bought this with other F & P appliances for renovated kitchen. The cooktop looks smart on my new long bench but I can't say that I am pleased with the operation of it. It is extremely hard to keep clean and scratches easily, even being careful to move pans from one plate to another, which I am but if someone else in the family is using it they are… Read more

not so careful, for an everyday appliance it seems quite precious, has to be thoroughly cleaned after each use or it has streaks all over the shiny black surface. I also think I would go back to knobs if there is a next time as the touch & slide is very touchy sometimes and hard to adjust heat.

Great cooktop – As part of a kitchen renovation got one of these, I really like the design - clean appearance and very easy to use. The lack of knobs is awesome - nothing to collect grease! The glass seems pretty easy to clean (a razor scraper is supplied - tho it needs a sponge + water + stainless steel wool in conjunction with said razor to fully clean it… Read more

every few days). Update after 1 year - do *not* use stainless steel wool - it (lightly) scratches the glass, use ceramic cooktop cleaning solution instead - these work really well and make the surface gleam!

The elements heat up fast and cool (relatively) quickly. The touch controls are reasonably responsive - not quite as quick as twisting a knob, more like using a touch screen phone! The touch and slide scale takes a bit of getting used to. I find I'm using the range 6-9 typically and the lower numbers only very occasionally for really gentle simmering. I'm not sure if that is intended, but more linearity would have been better.

The glass surface seems to be very scratch resistant (a mate dragged a rough cast iron pan across it - without any damage - would not recommend doing that however)!

So good points: - attractive design - simple usability - scratch resistant - good heat response

Things that could be better - more linear heat range - ability to program/change touch delay

I note the other reviews are critical of reliability, I bought mine *before* checking the reviews on this site (oops) - I'll update after I've used it for a longer period! Update after 1 year, so far excellent. I've managed to get the software to 'crash' after a liquid spill on the touch controls...so a remote power off switch is essential (this is probably a regulatory requirement in NZ and AUS).

Update after 3 years: it gets a lot of use and is still working fine. Needs occasional ceramic cleaner (once a month or so). Talking to one of the kitchen shops here in Kapiti the feedback is a) they were a popular product and b) minuscule rate of problems/replacements.

2 elements dead – Purchased this cooktop just over a year ago and just out of warranty one of the elements failed to work, controls still worked but no heat. As I contemplated getting it repaired another element has no blown and of course they are both the largest cooking zones so now the cooktop is useless.

poor quality. avoid it if you can – I bought this last Dec. It just went for <5 months, now it can't be started, giving error code 22 after power on. The technician came, and ordered a new part for the touch panel controller, but it has taken 5 days for him to receive the part and another 2-3 days to come to replace it, which means you can't cook for at least one week! The customer… Read more

service is not as good and useless, promised to call me back but didn't do that, not put customer in first. looks stylish, have touch panel controller which is convienient. poor quality, touch panel controller died only in < 5 months.
