Goldstream Wing

I like it – We have had our 2015 Wing ST for 2 years now, I really like it, but have had to get used to the fact that you always need to fix a few issues as they are fitted with a lot of chinese components that wear out quickly, such as skylights, and external covers. Set up can be a drag, cranking it up and pulling out beds, but I am happy to do this as its… Read more
so easy to tow. Goldstream service department are booked out for months in advance, and are not great on communication on costs or when the van will be ready, when I picked up mine it was covered in detritus from the trees there, as it had been outside a while, which is a bit annoying. Overall its a good thing, roomy inside and having a shower and toilet is great for self contained camping. Its a small fridge, but we make do, overall I am happy with it.
2007 model Solid practical van, reasonable quality – Had owned our van for approx. 10 years until we sold it recently. Unlike other posters we found the dealer network quite limited. As we didn't live near Pakenham we found it difficult to get servicing for specific Goldstream issues resolved and often the wait time for Pakenham was months in advance, quite unprofessional and difficult to get a… Read more
rough idea of cost. The last time we tried to get something resolved we were told to bring the van down to Pakenham for them to assess so we could get a quote to be booked in months ahead to get fixed. We didn't store our van in a garage and I assume due to this, the external roof distorted over time (appeared wavey). This did not affect the internal roof and remained water tight We had constant issues with the sliders on the queen side bed end which would distort due to the weight of the bed end when trying to push in or out. We learned to live with this as the fix was to replace it with a sliding mechanism of the same nature which I figured would probably have the same issue. Aside from this issue, the layout and functionality of the van was great. The setup was very straight forward and it would take 10 to 15 minutes to setup the van from uncoupling to having it wound up and the bed ends out. It could be done quite easily by one person. We camped in some very adverse weather conditions and found the van to be wind and water tight The van towed well behind a mid sized 4wd.
Luxury with dust – Although we did not own the Wing, we owned the Storm. They are apart from the lay-out, the same in many aspects. It is a beautiful camper, very luxurious, we loved the breakfast bar and the super large beds. We could chose our own colour scheme for the furnishings. The canvas was absolutely water proof. Good to know: Lots of dust enters while… Read more
driving off road. The dust enters the bed area and the storage spaces, more in the back then in the front. Several cm gaps between bed and canvas walls, great for mozzies and flies. The door is very fuzzy to get in place. The canvas walls are attached to the door frame with turn clips. The clips are small and the canvas is tight, making it a chore to close. My partner would pull hard on the canvas and then I could turn the clips. The beds are hard work to pull out and 2 people are needed. They are supported by metal bars locking into the exterior (chassis). One has to lift up the bed somehow and then fit the bars. The canvas walls from the beds are very tight and it is difficult to pull over the bed frames. Internally equally hard work is to fit the bed steel horizontal bar to keep the bed tent in shape. The laminated bench and table top surfaces are beautiful, but prone to many marks andfinger prints. We found the bench seat depth to short for 175cm+ tall people. The mattress is hard. The windows are clear plastic, not tinted. The owners need to be strong and have a partner to help. This trailer is hard to set up by 1 person. It is very heavy to tow. The electric braking system failed twice and we had to put in new solenoids on both occasions. Sometimes we had issues and had to reverse in order to unlock them. (I am not technical, my partner is) Of course there were many good things as well. We upgraded to a finer insect mesh which worked very good to keep midgies out. We had an unforgettable time driving the circle Cooktown, Alice, Perth, Exmouth and Kununura, with all mod cons on board. We sold it because retirement is postponed a few years.
Tough and well built but expensive and completely devoid of modern utilities – I bought a new wing 3 premium (the one with the table not the shower/toilet) because I heard they were built well and I like the quick set up and huge interior. I still don't know what the premium stands for but I think it is for is build quality and that is it. The chassis with a 6 inch A frame and cruisemaster independent suspension, D035 hitch… Read more
and ATM upgrade is a beast and there's no denying that. The interior is very well assembled. The alloy wheels look wild but the tyres are cheap westlake chinese knockoffs. 2 gas bottles is nice, but don't expect a stone guard, gas bayonet or hot water system without parting with a huge sum of money. The front tool box area is large and the wiring is tidy, but don't get your hopes up that just because you've paid $50k for one of these bad boys that your gonna find a 12/240v inverter in here, or anywhere else. Don't even expect to find a single USB point inside the van....or outside. Don't expect the stereo to have decent sound quality or Bluetooth connectivity. There is no battery management system or even a voltmeter. It comes with an 80Ah pretty basic battery. The battery charger is decent. In defence of the vans electrics, there are 240v points everywhere so it's really comfy when your off-road extreme caravan is comfortably parked in a suburban caravan park. If you actually go bush like it was built to do, take a generator, otherwise your battery will only power the water pump, stereo, the cooling fan behind the fridge and 3 LED lights. Your fridge will have to run on gas: it's a good fridge. Your massive solar panel will not struggle as your battery is unlikely to drop below 95% because it has nothing to do. The aircon/heater works well on mains power but is noisy and it clicks all the time so best turned off at night if you enjoy sleeping. There is a microwave that's tucked away nicely. It comes standard with a thimble for a water tank but part with some money and you'll be able to carry 120L across 2 tanks. The pump sucks from both tanks at once so if you forget to fill one tank, or if you think one is full but it isn't (and you definitely won't get a water gauge to help with this) then you're stuffed. You'll have to climb underneath the van and drain the full one into a jerry then try to pour it into the empty tank. Or cut up your water tank plumbing and put switch valves on each tank to isolate them before you run out of water without any warning. The water pump is massive and delivers about a trillion litres of water per minute at mains pressure which is not great when you're out bush and trying to preserve water. The Fiamma awning works nice when it's dry, but when it's got any skerrick of moisture on it, it will get stuck in it's housing. I'd like to describe all the modern and innovative features of this van but there aren't any. Not even a drop down step to get into the bastard. Overall now that I've rewired and replumbed my van, swore at it a hundred times and put a sik stereo in it, I think I do like it. I mean it's ugly, old fashioned, painfully basic, severely over priced and lower spec than a 1970s Volkswagen beetle but I suspect that it is as reliable as a Beetle and I hope to tow the bastard around Australia for many years to come. Would I buy it again? Probably, but only because the wife and kids wouldn't let me buy a Cub camper or an Oka.
2008 Wing II Offroad – Purchased camper van 2nd hand in 2008, previous owner had completed 3mth round Australia trip. I'd estimate the van has now done approximately 60,000km, with about 15,000km of that in the dirt, including Gibb River Rd, Cape Leveque, Oodnadatta and Strezlecki Tracks, and various short cuts when available. Current tow vehicle is a 2012 diesel… Read more
Triton with OME suspension and air bags on rear. With vehicle and van loaded the airbags require about 25psi.
The van is fitted with the factory offroad package including cruisemaster coil spring suspension. Van is excellent to tow both on and off the bitumen. It tracks straight and true and basically follows the ute everywhere, and has not produced and nasty surprises so far.
The quality of finish and products used on the van overall is excellent. The only breakages have been a scupper vent spring ($5), Millard Clip to secure upper section of door ($5), sink tap ($70).
Had the van serviced three times, replaced brake shoes and shock absorbers.
Two gripes with the van are tap set up and outside BBQ. The sink tap must be lowered before pushing in the bed, otherwise it breaks, and the outside slide out BBQ doesn't slide out far enough and is to close to the door. Nothing major you can't work around, but still annoying.
The van is a breeze to put up and after a few runs you will be having a beer under awning in well under 10 minutes.
It's rated to sleep 6 with queen, double and island bed set up. 5 would be closer, as with most vans this size.
It's solid, nothing has come lose from it's fittings inside or out, ie. doors, shelves etc.,
Overall I love the van, and rate it very highly.
Great product! You get what you pay for! – Hi all! This product review is based on our new Goldstream Wing III ST camper. I have taken my time before I wrote this to ensure an accurate product description. For anyone reading this if you look up Windsor Rapid caravan reviews you'll see why I ended up purchasing this product instead! Many might be saying why did my first caravan purchase… Read more
start with a full size solid van and end up being a camper, but apart from the poor dealings I had with Windsor caravans I gave the whole process a re-think and seized the opportunity to purchase a wind-up camper based on many hours of reading other peoples experiences and looking at our family needs whilst travelling!
Firstly, I've owned the Goldstream since March 2011 and have had numerous trips away! To be a fair reviewer, I will also list the negatives just to assure readers out there that I'm a genuine owner and not just a manufacturer blowing steam!
To begin with, light surface rust has appeared on the A-frame, but nothing a $20 can of No-Rust can't fix! Hot/cold water tap to vanity reversed, air-con struggles in 35+ degree ambient temperatures and the final clean-up of white silicon from production left a little to be desired. Fair amount of saw dust as well but have now cleaned-up most of these items. Bed end fly cover bags (and their straps) whack the van roof in strong winds but Goldstream have rectified these free-of-charge since purchase.
In all honesty the van has been excellent but the aftersales help and advice has been even better! These guys are vanners themselves and are fantastic at what they produce! In saying that our van cost almost twice that of the equivalent Jayco product but we have not had one serious negative thing with the van. Goldstream aren't a very big company but I doubt that there are many of their vans out there which the owners are un-happy with!
Now about the Wing III ST. For those that didn't know, the ST stands for shower and toilet! That's right, we have a wind-up camper that also has a fully enclosed (internal) shower/toilet which with a young family has been invaluable. Most people when they first see the van cannot believe that these options exist in a wind-up and the quality of fit and build once again was impeccable.
Canvas stitching is of excellent quality with NO leaks what-so-ever and again with fit and finish being great. There really is a high level of fit and finish put in these vans when compared with other manufacturers. Exterior fit and build quality is excellent with the van being very rigid and strong. Towing is an absolute breeze, and we use a front wheel drive Kluger!
After having owned this van for almost a year, some might say that my review is slightly biased, but for anyone contemplating their next van purchase (and if their budget allows it!) you should not go past a serious looking over of a Goldstream. I may sound a bit like a sales man, but I'm happy to say I thoroughly researched my purchase, which included visiting many manufacturers and reading many reviews along with talking to other vanners! In saying that (although I didn't buy from them!) Concept caravans also build a fantastic product (albeit a bit pricey!). Goldstream certainly aren't the cheapest out there but if you're anything like me, and can appreciate that you get what you pay for then this brand would have to be in your top five list!
So in conclusion, for anyone considering a Goldstream, I couldn't do any less but strongly recommend one! If you value build quality over a budget price, then consider this brand, as they appear to be building the equivalent of "Caravan Bentley's"! Can't offer an opinion about their dealer network as I dealt directly with the production facility in Pakenham Vic (another big bonus in my eyes!) with their staff being very helpful and ready to answer stupid questions from a newbie vanner like myself! In hindsight, all that I was told was accurate, with no marketing gimmicks or ploys to make me spend-up even more!
Honest, reliable van built and sold by an honest and reliable manufacturer! Easy to tow! Half hour to set-up - fully! Great optional extra list! Great to look at and live with! Nice to get comments from other vanners when on the road. Makes you feel like you've got something a little extra-special!! Fantastic after-sales help and advice! Pricey but fair when comparing build quality with other vans! Final clean-up seemed a little rushed, but was only minor!
