I spent 12 1/2 minutes on the phone to HBF for no answer. I then sent them an email 2 days ago and they have not replied. Conclusion is : they take a very large premium each month and reward you with PATHETIC (i.e nil) CUSTOMER SERVICE. And the kicker is : - THEY OBVIOUSLY DONT CARE ! ask the customer to "give us a call on 133423". As stated I did that and they did not answer after 12 1/2 minutes. Who is getting paid big dollars to manage this ?

being able to afford any medical needs outside of the hospital . Over 20 yrs ago I was with another fund , which merged into HBF, I was happy with my original fund then. I was a little concerned when I was transferred to this new fund. But I found after a while I have no problems with HBF & the coverage I have in my extras package. I am not about to swap funds, as this policy meets all my needs & my premiums I am extremely happy with. When I have rang HBF the assistant was extremely helpful , polite, cheerful & sorted out my query without a problem. They were so friendly as if we had known each other for many years, had very relaxing conversations. I rate HBF WITH 5 STARS , EXCELLENT .

Be careful of hidden expenses such as "out of pocket fees" – My HBF policy didn't cover hidden expenses such as "out of pocket fees charged by the doctor or anesthetist etc. While HBF advertised "Top hospital cover for all treatments" and "peace of mind you're covered for the things you need..." The cover didn't include fees charged by the doctor so I had to pay the $$$. Show details

In over 2yrs, just got announced that they are increasing premiums again In that time its increased to well over 33% for my cover, I was originally charged $152 per fortnight Absolutely price gouging, they say not for profit I only have cover for myself, gold, and they have jumped to over $200 per fortnight! This Health fund is a waste of money, tell you one thing when selling you the insurance and then don’t cover you when you need it. Stick with a health insurancer that actually will look after when you need it and not just take your money. Stay clear of this company! Show details

However, one call to them to see what was available, and I had a plan better suited to my new needs, and at a price I am very happy with. Their customer service person was cheerful, friendly, quick to understand, and very efficient in resolving my questions.

I have never had so many issues with a health fund since moving over only a year ago. The first issue was waiting 12 months for my extras cover to display correctly. Then recently I was repeatedly told I would receive confirmation of coverage for a procedure “as a priority.” After following up three times, the confirmation finally arrived in… Read more
the mail, two weeks after the surgery had already taken place.
The final straw was submitting post-surgery claims. One claim was supposedly received but still hadn’t been paid a month later, while the other two were submitted through the app and confirmed via both app notification and email, only for me to later be told they were never received. I was asked to resubmit them and then call again to confirm because the app “sometimes has glitches.”
It has been beyond frustrating and incredibly time-consuming for a service that costs so much. I expect far better communication, reliability, and systems from a health fund. I am looking to move funds based on the repeated issues even though that is time consuming in itself.

Worst insurance I have ever had in my life. The customer service is terrible when you actually need help, no one can give you clear information, and they make absolutely no effort to assist you. And guess what? The hospital cover doesn’t even cover hospital care. You end up with no benefits at all. I was never able to use my insurance when I actually needed it. HBF is always reliable and great value. Rang them about a tricky request. Got an Australian operator who patiently explained what was possible and how to do it (in plain words, Australian accent). tried to submit. The nice lady said “omg, I’ve never seen this happen before! You’re the only one with this problem!” I don’t believe that for a second. The nice lady double checks my account: yes of course they have my correct email, of course they have my correct phone number, address, of course I’ve opted in for email communication. There was nothing else the nice lady could do for me but tell me to wait a week or two - convenient. Just enough time that they hope you’ve forgotten that they haven’t reimbursed you for the PITTANCE back you’re owed. I pay $172 a month for this??? Absolute scam. Try paying your members what their owed instead of animating those ugly quokkas and plastering them up on every surface.
