drive it. I explained that the system showed it as available for 24-year-olds, and that’s the only reason I booked it. Staff told me there was nothing they could do, and they also refused to transfer the booking to my partner, who is over 25 the service was rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. I’ve never experienced such poor customer care. I won’t be using Hertz again — Budget or Avis offer far better service and better prices. Overall, a really disappointing and unprofessional experience at Hertz Melbourne Airport.

finally did reach a representative, I was given incorrect information. I appreciated a ride was provided to and from the location but every step of the entire rental was quite the process when it should not have been. Called ahead to verify the price and was given false information from multiple sources and was charged significantly more in the end. When waiting for a pick up ride, was expecting a Hertz car to arrive so I waited 30 or so minutes past the scheduled pick up time looking for one. Finally an unmarked car was who picked me up, with no sticker, no sign, with someone who was not wearing any Hertz shirt or Hertz lanyard or any sign of employment. No vehicle make, model, or license plate was given to me so I was not told what to look for either. When dropping off the rental, was not instructed at all on how to do so, even after calling and asking on how to do so. Had to guess on how, and then was called multiple times afterward being told I had done it wrong even though no instructions were given at any point. Even when I had a scheduled pick up time, still had to wait 30-40 minutes at Hertz when I was only the second customer there and that was after already waiting 30 minutes to find the unmarked car to pick me up. Phone is hardly ever picked up and automated phone system difficult to navigate. Disappointing all together

first one. That’s the one floating down the A7. Yeah seriously. Offered absolutely no help at all. After many hours on the phone we got somewhere. Had to cancel the contract just to get a refund. Moments after the last call they actually called back to see if we had the keys. Appalling, disgusting service. No real concern for us at all. Never again.

booking is made as Hertz cannot link that to your account. The process was easy to follow with extras varying depending on which country you are booking in. I logged in several times to compare tariff rates on hire and they changed regularly. We stuck the original quote however you can save if pay upfront. When we made inquires with Hertz Australia about our bookings prior to leaving they informed us that a bond is normal and would be refunded. We opted for pay upon pickup that incurred additional surcharge but provided flexibility that we needed. We opted for the Hertz Super Cover Insurance after looking at the options and considered what our Credit card insurance / travel insurance would cover with the hassle etc to make any claims if they arise and the reviews for people who have gone down that route. We were cautious after reading the reviews, scams and tricks reported by Hertz customers that played out like a Seinfeld episode but we did not experience these. The Barcelona Hertz office is clearly visible from the Saints train station (vehicle drop off end). Prior to collecting the vehicle We made a video and recorded any existing damage external/internal and underneath to the vehicle. We did not receive an existing damage report from Hertz Saints and was reassured that with Super Cover it was not required however I expected an email with these details as per previous Hertz rentals that never arrived. Petrol/Gas was precharged that turned out to be okay for us as it was one less thing to worry about. Also payment was required to use a Credit card in the name of the driver. The onboarding process was quick as our details had been pre-populated in the online booking. Helpful staff provided a map and directions to collect the vehicle that was located in an adjacent street carpark, level -5. We had an International drivers licence but only needed to show Australian drivers licence. Similar experience in Seville Airport for return. Follow the rental return signs through the ground level carpark, with Hertz return area visible as soon as you go through the first carpark. Again record a video of the vehicle. The staff were also friendly and I received an emailed receipt shortly after dropping off the vehicle. No additional charges or surprises for cleaning, damage etc. Do some research on driving in Spain including entering restricted areas with your local accommodation before entering the area on Google Maps. We had a positive experience on both ends with Hertz Spain. I'd recommend going with the Super Cover Insurance offered by Hertz as it resolves any issues upfront and peace of mind. From our positive experience we would use Hertz Barcelona Saints again.

ran like an ol chaff cutter, the truck was all over the road, and not changing gears when you went up hills or did turns. abused at the counter because they didnt like me complaining in front of other customers. absolutely appalling. this is a scam company masquerading as a car rental company. Highly recommend you choose any company other than this one unless you like being abused and cheated

miserable experience that reeks of corporate idiocy. Saturday night, you knew we were coming (well, actually you didn’t?’) and rostered one person to process us all. Why? The guy behind me tried to call head office, I high fived him. This was the worst experience ever and a great advert for everyone else. Goodbye from me Hertz.

damage waiver. When I paid, I was charged $170. I rang Hertz immediately explained my situation, operater told me they were not sure why it happened and advised to email customerservicesau@dollar.com. I received a reply stating that I was charged in USD. I requested a review because I am based in Australia, live in Australia and used an Australian card. I have heard nothing back to this date. To make things worse, they charged me an extra $62 on the day of car pickup as a MDW. My understanding was that the maximum damage waiver was included in the price I paid.

Other things that went wrong are too numerous to list: an international charge fee, Different car received than the one booked, car I got had much smaller boot size that didn't even fit one checked luggage properly, the petrol tank was not full (about 6 liters less than full), and I was misleaded saying car was a plug-in hybrid when it turned out to be a regular hybrid.

If anyone reading this is planning to file a lawsuit against Hertz, include me. I have recorded all proof.

Hertz is a company from hell, with no customer service, stay away from them

I would never rent a truck from hertz Osborne park again as they are unprofessional . Doing the right thing and letting them know I broke a one of the vents while trying to put my phone on and they charged me $283 dollars which was more than the truck hire

recovery, $8.65 Administrative recovery, Card surcharge $3.56 and $27.63 G.S.T. all of which we only found after returning home to access the invoice on our home computer, leaves us in doubt about the trustworthiness of this vehicle renter. If contemplating using them it would be wise to ask for a full written quote before arriving at the renter's depot by which time it would likely be too late to walk away and find an alternative. The requested vehicle was substituted too! In fairness the $202.60 bond that Hertz held was returned to our bank account the following day.

I was partly the id*ot, I accepted a car, that had not been washed, had dirt inside the vehicle and had very obviously not been detailed. Will never use this company again and wll be encouraging my thousands of coworkers to do the same...

Ordered vehicle to be picked up from Avalon airport. Was told we’d have to wait until they opened at 8.30am even though our flight landed at 7.30am. That was ok. Was at the desk at 8.30am and told we’d have another significant delay while they cleaned the car. Not acceptable!!!!! Clean the car when it comes back or don’t hire it out straight away. Not happy. she was informed it could not be done as the booking was done online for a Mitchell pickup. It would possible to cancel and rebook in Fyshwick but the Mitchell booking refund would take a long time. We headed out the door to pick up the car in Mitchell, mentioning that this would make a good item for Product Review. As we were loading our bags to go to Mitchell, the friendly Fyshwick attendant called out and informed us that they had a car from Mitchell on site and he might be able to sort it out to our satisfaction. If I could put a zero rating for this company I would. Charging exorbitant insurance ($600.00) for a three day rental, have just been stung another $73.00, allegedly for tolls in Melbourne. No option with insurance as the threat of having to pay an excess of $6,000.00 if involved in an accident. Avoid at all costs. Show details

$575.00 for car rental until 30/1/2026. The same email came again after I added comprehensive insurance. This brought the total yo $884.00. $300.00 insurance on a car for 8 days is ridiculous and an absolute disgrace.

When I went to pick it up they took $1,100.00 from my account. Not sure what the additional was about. I had paid the insurance. It would have included the $200.00 security deposit but that still doesn't bring it up to $1,100.00. It was booked from 3:30pm 22/1/2026 to 2:30pm 23/1/2026.

I was half an hour late getting the car back and informed I would be charged for the additional 30 minutes. WHAT??????? WTH? I asked the girl attended me if I had brought the car back 30 minutes early would they refund anything? She smiled uncomfortably and said "No."

It is now 1/2/2026 and I have not received my security deposit refund.

The final (to date) frustrating part to this experience is the SMS I received this morning stating "Your Hertz rental is now 2 days overdue.We may begin vehicle repossession if you do not call Hertz immediately on 03 9708 5400. Regards Hertz.

I received the SMS (re return of the car this morning 9:30am Sunday 1/2/2026) They demand I call the number "immediately." Arrogant pr*cks. I didn't call immediately, its bloody Sunday. I called at 10:30am ...... I was not answered. Seriously how are these cowboys in business still.

I strongly advise you avoid renting from hertz at all costs. They are a disgraceful company. Poor communication, scammers and terrible terrible customer service.

It is now 2/2/2026 and I have just received another SMS from Hertz demanding I return the vehicle. I RETURNED IT LAST FRIDAY YOU PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A COMPANY.

They demanded I call them immediately, which I did and I blasted them. If I get one more text I dont know what I'll do.

I drove 1000klm in 2 days to get husband home quickly.Hosed and vacuumed the car and returned the Car to HERTZ in Hervey Bay 2 Days short of the hire period.There is no such thing as a refund for unused rental.HERTZ claim they cannot refund monies for bookings through an online site even though ALL CHARGES are shown on both HERTZ pickup invoice and the drop off invoice. They overcharged me $700 for 2300km I did not drive. Went to the Parkes Elvis Festival 2026, needed a car to get around to events, drive Parkes to Sydney. All up we did 900km, but charged for 3,300km because of their error in milage records. Cannot get any persons email or phone to call & get resolved. Show details
