Has done the job – Bought the XQB70-71 over 10 yrs ago and still going well. I always skip the middle wash/soak so dont have problem with extra water being wasted. Only need a new lint filter soon. Never tangles clothes & everything comes out clean. Best $300.00 for a 7.5 kg machine. No complaints

homemaker 72 washing machine – 8 years of use and still going great. Best $400 I ever spent. We just replaced the drive belt today. We used a Simpson small top suspended model belt, number is BW050. We are in Australia and the homemaker parts are hard to come by now. The belt was $16.50. We loosened the silver small belt metal drive underneath, slid the metal along a couple of… Read more

mm and put the new belt on. Fabulous my HMWM72 top load washer is now running like a dream and spinning again like new. Hoping to get another 8 years of use out of it and hoping this helps someone else. Great little machine, efficient and cheap. belt was replaced after 8 years when it stopped spinning.

Cheap but does the trick (4kg version) – Well, for a 'home brand' cheap mechanical item, I wasnt expecting too much. We have had the 4kg version (practically the same though) for over 6 years and its still going strong! We use it a few times a week, ranging from 'delicates' to large doonas etc. I always use hosiery bags for anything Im worried about, and keep all zips done up and hems on… Read more

the inside when washing as my clothes are cheap and therefore not really durable. It is great that it has no central agitator shaft, but it does tie everything in knots (not so great for string singlets etc). I wasnt impressed by the water/power efficiency, or lack thereof, but again was not expecting more. I also wasnt impressed by the design of detergent dispensing. Gave up on using the detergent 'drawer' immediately. Its on a nasty slope but adjusted so its almost flat. Quite surprised it is still happy...

We always wash in cold water on the gentle setting, just out of habit - and we keep the lid open after use. It has been visually cleaned out now and then. Simple, inexpensive, over 6yrs old! Not water/power efficient, stupid detergent dispenser design.

Machine From Hell – This is the worst washing machine I have ever owned! Was desperate at the time of purchase. First it ties all clothes in knots and I only ever used the delicate setting. Second big chunks of plastic started breaking off and were in the bottom of the tub. Then the washing motion only worked for half the cycle and then it just made a whiring noise… Read more

the rest. Spun the clothes till they were stuffed. Uses far too much water, clothes still dirty and then it just shat it'self. The pump stopped working and it is only 3 years old. Nightmare machine! Do not buy!! Compact

Great cheapie from K-Mart – I bought this washer on a chuck out special from K-Mart. I think it is fabulous! I have owned it for many years and it hasn't missed a beat. The think I love the best is that it doesn't have an agitator in the centre of the washer. This means that there is tonnes of room for washing. I hate housework and as my kids get bigger their clothes get… Read more ·  1

bigger. This large washer just gets the job done so I can get on with more important things :) No Agitator - more room for clothes.

Excellent – An excellent machine at a bit over half the price of the competitors. Very compact for a 6.5kg machine and has done 2 full loads a day for 12 months without a problem. Works exceptionally well. Cannot understand any of the complaints. Suspect user error. Also the machine has to be level but I found this out on a much dearer machine which died as a… Read more ·  1

result of not being level. Supposed to be 7kg but I suspect if you wanted to find something to pick on you would have to say it is closer to 6kg - 6.5kg. Wrong settings will tangle clothes.

Terrible – Absolutely crappiest washing machine ever. As it washes, it ties all the clothes in the machine into one big knot and goodness help you if you wash bras in there, even if using an underwear bag, it destroys them. I will never buy a homemaker brand machine again.

Terrible – Whoever designed this washing machine must either hate people or want to drive his employer out of business, or both. No other thing I own has cost me so much time and unnecessary extra expense. It has caused so much cursing and pure rage, it must be taking it's toll on my health. I have committed acts of violence against it, shaking it and… Read more

kicking a large dent in the front of it, which incidently popped out the other day after another fit of violence against it. I got it from K-Mart because I was desperate and it was cheap. I regret this purchase every day and will be replacing it as soon as I can. Absolutely nothing is good about this piece of crap Floods the floor if not watched. Stops with 10-15 error messages every wash, uses gallons of water, can't spin-out a full load, and does a mediocre job of cleaning your clothes.

Keep the Box it works better than the machine The day I took to it with an axe ....most satisfying. Stick with washing clothes in the ganges river might come out cleaner. Keep the Box it works better than the machine Not eough space

OK – For the price it is a general machine offering the most basic of washing options, however over the past two years and with at least two relocations the machine continues to perform solidly. Any operator must ensure that they do not (1) overload the machine, (2) select the correct water level and (3) choose the most appropriate cycle and mode to… Read more

match the clothing types. Those who have previously had their washing done by Mum or in someone else's 'smart' machine may find the thinking required somewhat challenging, though not insurmountable with a little patience and trial and error. Abuse of the hardware never solves the problem, though it highlights a potential underlying psychotic state that only the 'zen' of washing can truly resolve. The low price and ready availability Trying to locate a replacement lid, which is just too 'plastic' for general use.

Terrible – ruins your clothes, delicate setting still knots your clothes and it takes a lot of patience to keep going back to the machine and re-starting it after every beeping error noise.also i would have to spin loads another 2 times before removing them as the spin is horrible.I'd do a better job with my hands.the machine likes to walk around the laundry… Read more

as well!i hope this review helps people that are purchasing not just the poor ones who already have(like me!)! only cost me $100 because it wasnt properly balanced. (though didnt know the implications of this until i realised that it would stop multiple times through a wash and spin cycle.errr.specially when i only had a few pieced of clothing. everything.i agree with other reviewers that it mangles your clothes and ties them in knots.i was looking at it yesterday and find it funny that today i was using the machine when i started smelling something burning.my partner went up to the machine, touched it and the machine let off a load and bright spark.now I am buying a new machine coz i am too scared to try it again.the area the spark came from has left a burn mark and i think its gone to hell!
