High engine oil consumption – Being the 2nd owner of 2010 Hyundai i45 I am fed with engine oil consumption and the engine noise. It is consuming around 9 litres of engine oil between the schedule services. Show details

Terrible car – Driving on a parkway late at night when my car started sounding funny, oil light never came on so I just assumed I was sleepy. Turns out the oil had been completely drained after being serviced 4 months prior. Got told I need a new engine around $10,000 with insurance doing nothing and no warranty. Show details

Faulty engine – Initially I loved my i45, it was comfortable to drive and had some great perks like keyless entry and seat warmers etc. However as the car was being driven at 100km/h on the highway there was a bang, the engine stopped, smoke filled the cabin and all electrics were lost. The piston had come off from the conrod and gone through the block into the… Read more

short engine, causing the engine to seize. The car had only done 109000km and had just been serviced, was only 5 months out of warranty and there was no warning light. This is never something that should happen to a newer car unless it has been mistreated. The replacement engine and labour costs almost as much as the value of the car. Hyundai refuse to cover the cost even though in the USA, Canada and South Korea 2010/2011 Hyundai Sonatas (identical to the i45) have been recalled over safety concerns for the exact same fault. I also know of many other i45s in Australia which this has happened to. I would definitely not recommend buying this car or any Hyundai.

Loved My i45 From The First Day I Received It – We love it. Purchased new i45 Premium in 2010. Done nearly 47,000Klms now with only a minor problem that was rectified under warrantee. The vehicle still looks new in Remington Red. Fantastic outside and interior appearance. The dash design and layout is great. Love the central radio volume control as well as the air-conditioning controls. … Read more

Seats are comfortable and always set to correct adjustment with pre-set, (no longer annoyed after someone moves the seat). Plenty of head, leg & elbow room front and rear.

The vehicle has lots of subtle accessories such as keyless entry, auto folding mirrors, (love these in car parks), leather trim, lot of safety features and auto locking doors once moving, courtesy lamps and lots more.

Boot is very large with good size opening. Boot opens from driver’s seat, at the boot itself or by the key fob.

Hyundai build quality and support from our local dealer is excellent.

The five year warrantee gave us confidence when we purchased this vehicle and it hasn’t let us down.

People still stop me in the street to ask about my i45.

Great to drive. Loved this car from the day I received it. Sad to see it go. Only selling it to replace it with a Hyundai Genesis. Appearance, love the interior design and layout, comfort, space, ride. Loaded with features including Panoramic Glass Roof. Seats can be difficult to clean and the Chrome Grill shows water marks.

I ♥ i45!!! – We love it, we love it, we love it! There are so many great fancy features even though it is the active model, every thing about it is absolute perfection. all our luggage. As big as it is, it is easy to clean the outside because it is silver. The inside is very classy with all the shiny black bits and such a smooth ride, the seats are very very comfy. We were looking at a Toyota Camry (boy do they have similar features) but inside the i45 it's just a lot more plus inside. This is the ultimate car, no doubt about it. Like how we can fold the mirrors in when squeezing in to our narrow garage. The style and the drive is very good.

Love the fancy dashboard how it glows all the time, and the automatic headlight switch. Loved the space, very stylish inside and out, indicator on mirror, fold in mirrors, just everything about it. Can't connect phone to stereo, but doesn't bother us too much.

Drivers seat problems – Overall ok car. The driver's seat foam collapsed when the vehicle was 5 1/2 years old. Had to buy a full replacement seat from a wrecker as Hyundai have no replacement parts in stock and the warranty had expired (of course). Cheap to run though at less than 10 litres per 100km on average. Just be careful of the lack of parts as this may become a problem as vehicles age.  Show details

The issue with new cars (including Hondas) is despite sitting higher I can't see the bonnet. For the value, this is miles better than any expensive counterpart and I am enjoying it. It definitely turn heads for sure. I do agree with another reviewer about the steering but I guess I have to get used to it. On smooth roads, it really is sublime but with bumps, it tends to very actively steer to either side.

All in all, a great family sedan and I couldn't be happier. I just hope Hyundai dealerships are equally supportive.

Krap – I traded a 07 Sonata for this heap of rubbish called an i45. I took it for a test drive and got 5.6k/l on the display. I liked the look of the car and the colour (Remington red). the seats MOST uncomfortable after the armchairs in the Sonata. It also would do no better than 7.6k/l. I have also found that the front and rear windscreens are almost impossible to clean as they slope excessively steeply. The steering is totally dangerous as it will wonder without warning. Should be recalled for that if nothing else. I have also had 2 Getz's which were absolutely magic cars. The i45 has turned me right off Hyundai products.

Hyundai I45 Objective Assessment – On two occasions now I have hired an Hyundai I45 whilst in Qld. This review is based on those two rentals only. were several items that were of concern to me. It should be mentioned that I am 189cm (6'2").

I found firstly that when driving with my hands at the normal 10-2 position as I turned the steering wheel to the left my elbow hit the centre console when I was just below the 9 o'clock position. This was in my view quite dangerous, as I had to move my hand off the steering wheel and reposition it. Simple fix by lowering the centre console a few cms. I also had a problem with the air conditioning, as I am very fair and my skin burns if any air is blown directly onto my face. The centre air conditioner outlets when fully down were still blowing air into my eyes and that could not be altered. The only way I could stop that was to close those outlets and use the outlets near the doors. My wife also had the same problem. This is a design fault that needs to be addressed. This vehicle also has very limited vision to the rear. My Fairlane has better rear vision that this car. I also noticed that when on freeways travelling at around 100km/h, both cars tended to wander. Holding the steering wheel straight the vehicle would move either to the left or right, and this became very annoying as one has to concentrate very hard to keep the vehicle on a straight line. I have driven several front wheel drive vehicles and most track straight, but these vehicles did not. I also express concern about the external rear view mirrors, as both are telescopic and tend to make vehicles appear further to the rear than they actually are. Internal centre mirror is excellent and shows correct rear distance from the car. I am one of those people who dislike keyless entry and operation. Why? Because I want to control the technology, rather than having the technology control me. Driving position although somewhat low for all inside the vehicle was reasonably comfortable and fuel consumption was excellent. This vehicle only had the 2 litre motor, and I considered this vehicle to be very underpowered for a car this size. Others have indicated that the 2.4 litre motor performs much better. I should also note that the boot space is exceptionally large.

Some of the things I have mentioned may not be of concern to others, but to me they were important enough for me to discard this vehicle as a potential people mover for my family. Overall, not a bad vehicle, but with a few minor changes, it could be a real winner. Looks and low fuel consumption. Underpowered, centre console too high, air conditioner controls not good enough, rear view mirrors deceptive, vehicle wanders.

I liked it so much, I bought one – Travelled 4,000 km in a Hyundai i45 2.4 auto whilst on holiday in WA. car was! We spent the next 2 weeks driving around WA looking at wildflowers and absolutely loved the car. It was comfortable, quick, reliable and rattle-free (even though it had done almost 50,000 km), quiet at speed and very fuel efficient. In fact we were so impressed by this car from Hyundai that we bought a new i45 Active when we got home. Acceleration, braking, comfort, quietness, suppleness of ride, fuel efficiency. Keep tyre pressure no higher than 33 psi and you will love the car.

2011, i45 Premium- Great Value but a couple of small things to tend to – Had my 2011 i45 Premium for 12 months. Great car but having a few issues such as: 1. lining sticks every one of of ten opens. The roof opens, but not the fabric roof lining. Have to close and re-open again. Not a huge concern. Perhaps lube req'd.

3. Steering - biggest bug-bare at the moment. Extremely loose!! If I go over a small bump on road surface the steering wheel will shoot off to left or right. Can be testing just to maintain a straight line sometimes. Take my eyes off the road for a few seconds, and I find I've drifted half into the other lane. I really have to be holding onto wheel at all times with a firm grip as road camber / bump will send me straight into gutter. Wheel alignment is fine as on a straight and flat surface, no issue. Tyre pressures all the same too. Growing annoyance... I will raise it with Hyundai at up coming service.

Other than this list, I am very, very happy with the i45. I have driven many European vehicles and this is on par on some areas, and lacking in others, namely interior finishing (can tell its out of Asia).

I will be replacing the stereo unit with an aftermarket 7 inch, touch screen with GPS and Bluetooth. Disappointing that the USA market rec'd such a unit but not in Aust. With this upgrade, I'd find it hard to beat value for money for such a stylist looking car (int & ext). Two years in Aust and still turns heads.

If you're over 6'2" consider the steering wheel and seating position. Would be great if steering wheel had more telescopic pull as I compromise foot space a fraction to be closer to wheel.

Ride is softer than other large sized saloons- but Id prefer that than feeling every bump in the road. Similar to a 5 series BMW.

Cant see myself replacing this car for several years. With 5 year warranty, why would I...

Hope prospective buyers get some useful info from this review. Excellent boot space - easily fit 2x set of golf clubs (horizontally). Fold down seats - great. Power - heaps of it!! Back seat comfort - 1st class! Increased road noise with the Premium slick tyres - you get used to it! Very economical for the power return 2x memory seats - fantastic if your wife is also driving at times. Will be adding a square tow hitch for the complete package vehicle. As above

Just turned over 6000 klm and have found the car to be a delight. Only complaints are a persitent rattle somewhere in the front near steering wheel and this remains unresolved at this time; the Auto volume control on the sound system does not appear to work and the fuel gauge will not pass the 75% mark even when fully fueled. If not for these small deficiencies I would have rated this vehicle as EXCELLENT. Excellent value for money, interior design and luxury feel; great street appeal, smooth auto box, confident brakes.
