Been a great car but faulty window buttons – I bought the car from the lot - as a demo car. It has been a great car. The only issue is - as soon as it come out of warranty I started having issues with the window buttons. An interesting it was the ones rarely used… they stopped working… over time all the window buttons stopped working, which was a pain if it happened with the window down, I… Read more

also had one of the motors in the window go… In the last year I have spent over $1000 to have my windows open or shut. The car is 10 years old! The car navigation couldn’t be used after it turned 5 as the screen touch doesn’t work properly…. And the reversing camera is very blurry. The steering wheel is deteriorating and driver seat is deteriorating too. The car has been well taken care of, all log book services Though I feel things are mechanically going to go wrong, as there are lots of new noises.

The engine mounts are terrible in this car – I bought this car second hand and it really seemed like a great car. Not so sure now. The stereo does not work and now the engine mounts need replacing. These are almost impossible to get and it seems Hyundai have cornered the market meaning the parts are incredibly expensive. One of the mounts needed the transmission mount is not even in the country and could take up to 8 weeks to get. Show details

Hyundai should be banned from Australia – Catastrophic Engine failure at 75000klms & Hyundai don't care. We had this car feom brand new & driven by me. I loved this car & it was in immaculate condition & serviced on time or before everytime. Please, please rethink Hyundai or Kia it will just give you financial stress & heartache. Worst customer service or non existent service. If I could give a minus it would be -1000. Dealerships should be ashamed of themselves. Show details

Amazing to drive – We purchased a 2015 ix35 se model after selling our 2016 Hyundai Elantra. Can certainly notice the difference from the 1.8 lt Elantra to the 2.0 lt ix35… perfect height to feel Safe on the road. Feels so comfortable to drive around town but is equally as good on long trips… only issue like So so many people have, is the stereo…. No sound… tried… Read more

everything I possibly could to rectify without having to remove it but I’m led to believe it is a Hardware issue that requires a repair by a specialist. Waiting on quote price for this as I do like these stereos and love the recording function. Aside From this minor fault it’s an amazing car that I highly recommend to anyone!

Serious battery drain issue – Hyundai IX 35 SE (late 2015 model) (Renamed Tucson) Serious battery drain issue: Updated: Latest update 19/10 Hyundai Customer Care has been polite and helpful (after a slight delay) and some communication is now taking place, working towards identifying the issue by the dealership. The Hyundai Dealer concerned has also expressed his intention… Read more

to see if this issue can be addressed to reach a solution. However, a real commitment to solve the problem has yet to be agreed.

This is a copy of the communication to Hyundai, Who I am yet to hear from! (See above update)

Hi (Hyundai Customer Care Officer) I do understand you can’t diagnose by email. However, further to our last communication: (A little bit of personal info has been edited)

Today we just needed to go to the Hospital for an 11am appointment with my Surgeon, for a consent to proceed meeting. I am having major surgery on Friday morning.

Unfortunately today the car once again had a flat battery(probably around the 20th time in 2 years). It had been charged overnight to full last Saturday (as suggested by the RAC), by battery charger and we travelled 100 km on Sunday. Then used the car on Mon, Tuesday and Wednesday locally but not Thursday. We called out the Hyundai Roadside Support today who sent out RAC. So the battery has gone flat again in less than 48 hours. They (RAC) said it looks like a drain issue as clearly the battery is flat and shouldn’t be. So we are again told that the battery seems fine and is charging well with the engine running. It had a new battery in Jan of this year, the 2nd one within 2 years. Stop Press Today! 18/10, RAC have changed the battery again! (Good Will Gesture and the 3rd new battery in approximately 2years) After 20 minutes of the car being locked up the RAC amp meter still shows a drain of 0.38 Amps which is no good at all, Hyundai previously advised a normal drain was around 0.03 AMPS. (RAC stated that a drain of up to 0.05 AMPS may be acceptable)

So we have this Hyundai thats noticeably had this issue ‘continuously’ (documented) since it was just over 3 1/2 years old and under warranty. All services completed by Hyundai (Except for Emergency battery replacement by RAC who are your road side assistance provider anyway)

It’s just had its 6th year service (early) and has completed only 49,427 km and is Now out of warranty. This car is totally like new except it is totally unreliable and it seems that your Hyundai Dealership is incapable of fixing the issue. Yes the BCM has been changed but NO it has not fixed the issue. This car still gets a flat battery whenever it feels like it! The ACCC tells me it is reasonable to have expectations of reliability.

We have been unable to rely on this vehicle actually working, or even use it on many occasions for well over 2 years, since it completed around 30,000km (at which time it was well within its warranty period), which is absolutely unreasonable.

My wife will want to visit me in hospital close to 100km from our main residence. From next Friday and will have no confidence that this car will start when needed. We need a reliable vehicle especially now.

I will add that this car has never been in an accident and was purchased new by us. The car was fitted with a genuine Hyundai Dealer fitted tow bar prior to delivery (which has never been used). Otherwise it has no other ‘extras’.

We have otherwise been very happy with this vehicle, our first experience with Hyundai. To be frank, I would not even be comfortable selling this vehicle without ‘advertising’ the fact that it has this issue that so far Hyundai have been unable to rectify.

So the question is, what do Hyundai think would fair and reasonable? What is Hyundai prepared to do or not do?

As you can imagine we really do have other more serious issues to deal with right now and don’t want or need to have more formal unnecessary communications with the ACCC. Nor do we have any desire to proceed with formal legal representation with any tribunal. However, we do need to resolve this transport issue urgently and ultimately we will do whatever is necessary and I am completely out of patience.

I suggest that you elevate this matter if required, to whoever necessary in order to deal with this issue effectively and ensure we have a reliable Vehicle ASAP. Yours sincerely….

Any suggestions anyone?

Note: This car is driven regularly just like any vehicle we have owned, we have never experienced this issue with any other vehicle.

Be careful and notate any dealings with Hyundai when trying to make a warranty claim – I have a 2015 IX35 6speed manual. I purchased the car due to the unlimited km warranty as I drive approx 500km a week travelling to and from work. I have been having my car serviced at Essendon Hyundai for 4 years at every 10,000kms ( approx every 3 months) after complaining for 40,000 kms that my oil was burning through between visits my engine… Read more

was replaced 6 months ago under warranty. At the time of repair I was asked if I wanted to replace my clutch as it was showing signs of wear. I asked if it was needed and was told 'no, but it will be expensive if you ever do need to replace it as we have to take the engine out'. I chose not to spend an additional $3000 on the car as they said it wasn't essential. 4 months later my car breaks down. It gets towed to my home only 5km from breakdown point. I ring Essendon and explain that I think my gear box is broken as I had been having troubles getting it into 1st gear & now it wouldn't go into gear at all. I was told to bring it on the Monday as this occurred on Fri afternoon. The head mechanic was certain it was my clutch and not my gear box. He listened to the car and said he was certain he was correct. I rang Monday to confirm that it was coming in only to be told they couldn't even look at the car for 10days, they had no hire car and their recommendation was to go elsewhere. I rang around and found a clutch specialist that could repair my car in 2 days and had a car available for me to drive. Rang Essendon Hyundai back to enquire if my warranty was still valid if I took it elsewhere. I was assured that as long as genuine parts were used the warranty was covered. I ask enquired as to why the tow truck was charging me to tow the car and the answer was 'your roadside only covers you to come to a Hyundai Dealer.' My clutch was replaced in late January. Approx 4 weeks later I was once again having issues with my gearbox. I rang Hyundai who immediately said it would be an issue with my new clutch and to take It back to the mechanic. I did so, he sent me off to a gearbox specialist that told me In had a gearbox issue and to get it back to Hyundai as it would be covered under warranty. Once again, I rang Essendon. They were once again booked solid for 2 weeks and the mechanic said he was still certain it would be the clutch but to bring it in. It was to be taken in 2 weeks from then. This was on Thursday 5th March. On Saturday 7th March I was driving through Warburton Vic when the car just stopped. The engine was still running but we couldn't get it in gear or even neutral I rang a tow truck and was towed to Hyundai Lilydale. It was a long weekend so no one looked at the car until Tuesday 10th March. I rang Hyundai on the Tuesday to explain why my car was there. They looked at the car and said I needed to get the last mechanic that worked on the car to look at it as it was no longer covered under warranty. I asked for a.diagnostic to be done on the car. They asked me to approve a certain amount of hours to do this and we agreed that 2hours was the starting point and they would call should they need longer with my car. Half an hour later Lilydale rang to say they had diagnosed my car. It was a clutch problem and needed to go back to the clutch mechanic. We asked for proof of this as it was done in a quick period of time only to be told...we have a 30year mechanic. He can hear it is a.clutch problem. Not related to the gear box. Please have your car towed. I had the clutch mechanic tow it to a specialist in Lilydale where the car was pulled apart and it was diagnosed as yes, the new clutch is broken but the gearbox is the cause as it has broken the spinal in the clutch. From this point on, it has taken 30 days of daily calls to Hyundai Customern Service asking them to take the car back and repair it under warranty. 30 days where they have not returned my calls. Where I have emailed requesting they speak with the mechanic so we can move forward, 30 days of having no car and very little communication only to post my anxiety on their Facebook page and receive a message to say ' we have looked into for our case and deemed the clutch to be faulty and therefore have no further responsibility'. All this without ever having a mechanic look at my car. Now after the Facebook post, they are.willing to look at the car as long as I once again pay for towing costs, pay for them to once again pull my gearbox out( which I have already paid the specialist to do) and been told that I will incur the costs of all this if they deem this to not be an issue with my gearbox. All at the small cost of almost $7000 if my warranty is not cleared. It has been the most stressful period. No car for work, no responses from Hyundai and an enmourous amount of costs to me even though to the best of my knowledge I have done nothing wrong.

EXCELLENT! – I bought a brand new IX35 back in June 2011. It is one of the best cars I have ever owned. It’s the Petrol Elite model. Have got around 6.5litres/km since new. Took 10,000km before this good consumption started. It hasn’t missed a beat since new. I do though get it regularly serviced by Hyundai at the regular recommended intervals. A new… Read more

battery and 2 sets of tyres are the only things I have ever had to replace.

The car has now done $152000km and it has started raising in full consumption since about 140,000km.

I’m now getting Approx 9litres/km which is far too much.

Time to trade it in I think. It’s given me 7 years of perfect driving trust. Has never let me down.

It’s a shame they’ve been discontinued. Although I think the Tucson has replaced it.

I’m thinking the Kona will be my next Hyundai.

I owned a Hyundai Excel before the IX35 and my pRtner has an I20.

All of these cars have been perfect and never gave us a problem whatsoever.

That’s 18yrs of very happy Hyundai driving.

Highly recommend an Hyundai.

Love the car, dislike the service – The initial purchase from Hyundai was very smooth and enjoyable. This car has a lot of features for the price. It is a great family car, with enough room for 2 kids carseats and space for our dog in the middle. Heated seats are bliss in winter! The first set of tyres out of the factory lasted 90,000 kms! good warranty and extended warranty. However, when I heard a strange noise shortly after the initial 5 year warranty ran out, I was advised by the service team that I needed to replace the wheel bearings and that they were not going to honour the additional 3 year extended warranty as there were 'gaps' in my service history. Please bear in mind I followed the instructions and always had my car serviced at the dealership - never even purchased a wiper blade elsewhere. To add insult to injury, I got a second opinion and the noise was caused by my tyres, not the bearings. I was quoted $1500 for an item I didn't even require, and my warranty was dishonoured for bearing which are not even a serviceable item! Safe to say I won't be bothering with Hyundai again, which is sad because the actual car is great, and it was the after sales service and dishonesty which has ruined the experience for me.

Car was 27 months old and sound in radio ceased. Dealer said Bad luck radio only has 2 yr warranties. I phoned Hyundai and was told same. Subsequent visits to 3 auto electricians showed that all agreed that just the radio could not be replaced, and it would cost $900 for the necessary part. My car has been serviced regularly, now done 90,000 kms but 6 yrs with no radio or phone contact availability, and a ridiculous front sensor, along with the fact that I have to rent a 4WD or AWD to visit my late husbands grave have turned me off of Hyundai completely

Faulty Engine – Purchased this vehicle in April 2015 - 6 years old now and the engine is failing. Hyundai customer service and warranty are useless and are ignoring me. The engine has signs of scoring causing excessive oil consumption, therefore requires a new short motor. Currently sits at 145,000km - 2 services were overdue but that was 2-3 years ago. Good value – This is our first Hyundai. Very impressed, it has been an honest no issues vehicle. It is the wife's car and thus around town and to supermarket. I would not like to be in the back seat long distance, you would need to have no tendency to claustrophobia at all to hack it. covers it. The whole car seems to go up and down rather than the front then the back. Bouncy.

The tiny little diesel is free revving, quite punchy and has NO discernable turbo lag. It is on song from idle upwards.

Very impressed with that aspect.

The electric steering is very direct and has a slightly different feel to normal power steering. There is a distinct central position, not saying that is bad, just different.

The other thing that is weird is that all the aircon and radio controls are in the exact opposite locations to that of a Mitsubishi, I still haven't got the hang of that.

Update: Have driven the car a bit more lately and must say that the RHS "A" pillar is quite capable of hiding pedestrians, motor bikes and small cars from the driver. I have to keep reminding myself to look both left and right around the "A" pillar at intersections to make sure nothing is hidden behind it. In short, it is way too big, due to the steep rake angle meaning it has to be heavier than a more vertical pillar.

  ix35 LM.II SE ix35 LM.II SE AWD, 2.0L Diesel, Automatic

These best car I have owned – I am so happy I went with the ix35 over the rav4 and cx5. It get great millage and Hyundai have been amazing with warranties and servicing. The diesel is also amazingly punchy when needed. I would not be surprised if my next car was a Hyundai as well. 5 Stars  Show details

  ix35 LM.II Elite AWD, 2.0L Diesel, Automatic

Great car for the money – My ix 35 is a diesel, it has excellent performance and handling. The only time the noise lets you know it is a diesel is at the first start in the morning. This SUV has a nicely finished interior and all the controls are easy to reach. There is plenty legroom and the climate control works a treat the family love to be in it. I have a boat and the… Read more

2L diesel does a great job towing. I have had the car from new (2015) and have had no problems at all, the service cost is reasonable for AWD and diesel. I get an average of 600 Km from 50L of fuel. This car needs to be appreciated for what it is, a family SUV with mild 4WD capability. It is comfortable and easy to drive for the Australian conditions and speed limits.

  ix35 LM.II Active FWD, 2.0L Petrol, Automatic

Very competent, if not exciting – I took delivery of the ix35 as a work vehicle and didn't expect much. The interior was plasticky and the styling not to my taste. Initially, I did not want to like the car. However, after around 150,000km without a single glitch I am forced to admit that Hyundai did a decent job on the ix35. As an entry-level model, the Active was fairly basic… Read more

compared to its up-spec brethren and felt like a cheap hatchback on the inside. The kids didn't like the absence of A/C vents in the rear and felt as though they were sitting low in the car, which didn't help little tummies on twisty roads. The engine didn't promise much on paper, but in practice I found the 2.0 litre petrol to be perfectly sufficient. Sure, it's no ball of fire and didn't have the torque I expected, but as long as you're not used to powerful cars it's fine. Six speed auto was smooth and always found the right ratio. Fuel economy averaged about 9.5 L/100 in a mixture of light urban driving and a best of 7.4 l/100km on the highway. It's no sports car, but handling and braking were safe and adequate with the usual understeer and a slightly squishy brake pedal. It soaks up large bumps easily and felt confident on gravel roads. Noise is fairly well damped, but the engine got intrusive under load. The audio system was unremarkable but the radio got good reception in regional areas. Tyres (225/60R17 on steel wheels) lasted 90,000km and brakes were yet to be changed when I got rid of the car at about 150,000, making it cheap to run for its type. I found the seats not well suited to my (large-ish) body type on long trips. All up, the ix35 is a bit of a yawn, but will do everything the average driver will require of it dat-in day-out without anything falling off or giving undue concern. I should also point out that the customer service received when I had the car serviced was always excellent. (South Morang Hyundai)
