Terrible – I have been lucky enough not to buy this product but sadly my friend got one of these installed with his new house. so I will tell you what has happened to him with this air-conditioner over the past two years. first of all it only cools or heats the house to within 3-5 degrees celsius of the set temperature, some rooms of the house are like a refrigerator while others are barely cooled at all.

It used soo much electricity. This unit costs something like $5 an hour while running turning the electricity bill into $700 per quarter - crap ...

After two years of operation it suddenly lost all of it's refrigerant gas - before a 6 day heatwave of temperatures over 37 degrees. After getting it re-filled with refrigerant gas the air-conditioner then displayed a code saying that there was a blockage in the refrigerant lines. So for the next week it was starting up and stopping every five minutes complaining of a blockage.

So my friend got the LG repair man to come out to see what was the problem - LG service said that a piece of metal from one of the 100 or so welds had broken and slipped inside the refrigerant line and the compressor had seized. So the LG man fixed the leak - leaving the piece of metal still inside the refrigerant circuit, re-filled the air-conditioner with gas and waited for the new compressor to come in.

Finally NEVER BUY A LG PRODUCT EVER Buy a Daikin I know many people who own daikin ducted and split system units for 10 - 15 years without service or anything done to them and they still work so far - knock on wood When you look at the wall panel you feel happy because it says "Life's Good" LG actually stands for Life is GARBAGE

or more correct Life is Garbage when you buy a LG product

thanks LG aka GOLDSTAR

Terrible – Please in God's name - do not buy this unit. It is the worst item I have EVER purchased. I've had 12 call-outs in 2 1/2 years. It's now failed again. I want this nightmare to be over. If I had a spare $10,000 I'd throw this away and buy a Daiken. NOTHING. It's a large unit fit for making a good boat moring. With the sales person attatched! It is the biggest waste of $10,000 I have ever spent. In the past 2 1/2 yrs it's barely worked and when it has, it's been close to pointless as it hasnt heated or cooled the house as desired. I wouldn't sell this to my worst enemy.

I have had a unit for 7 years without any issues whatsoever. Recently I had to replace the compressor but I'm not overly concerned as we use the aircond everyday in summer and every other day in Winter and it works brilliantly. The people installing it were meticulous with their volume calculation and got the right unit for the house size. No regrets here.

Further to my original post (on the 29th Jan 2009)... I now have to go outside and hose my outdoor unit down as it constantly overheats and shuts down. The only way I can keep this unit from overheating (as advised by the LG Service Rep) was to ensure the unit doesn't get too hot by spraying water on it.. Ok, so on a 37 degree day, I'm outside in the heat hosing my A/C down... Well worth the money.. NOT.

Have you asked LG to replace your air conditioner?

They have advised me that no air conditioner works in 37+ degree days so hosing it down to keep cool is just a fact of life. The funny thing is that my neighbour has the same size house as me, with the same amount of ducts and the same aspect as mine in relation to sun/shade/treecover, etc, etc and his Daiken never needs hosing off.. EVER. I've just bought a lemon, with crap after sales service and support.

When my LG ducted was working it did work on 37 degree days. So i don't understand them telling you this. Maybe consider calling the ACCC and fair trading. Both should be able to tell you what rights you have in this situation. LG Australia also have a Facebook page. I have seen a number of people complain about LG products on LG's facebook wall. In a lot of the cases its seems LG are quick to respond and to try and resolve the issue. Good luck!

Get on to Twitter and name and shame them - That usually works. SOOO glad mine works, I'd be spitting chips if I had to put up with that rubbish! ...sheesh
