Misleading Warranty and poor support – Purchased June 2012, cleaning initially seemed adequate but had longish wash cycles. Machine noise appeared to get louder over time. But now ceased working. Motor has a clear 10 year warranty but LG advise they only maintain spare parts for 5 years so if anything else goes wrong 10 year warranty superfluous. Spent $350 on LG recommended repairers to discover LG have stopped supplying parts. Would not recommend. Show details

Doesn’t clean a thing! – Not satisfied at all. Thought this would be an amazing dishwasher as have never had an issue with LG. Have to wash dishes before putting them in. It is absolute rubbish at cleaning dishwashers and I clean and scrub the filter after every single wash. And use dishwasher cleaners and nothing helps. Childlock is useless because my son can still… Read more

Worked ok for 6 years - but not very servicable – We had circuitry die inside and unlike other brands, this LG requires replacing the whole circuit board as you can't just replace modules. So while we like to keep things running to keep them out of landfill as long as possible, it's the tip for this one after not very long. Boo Show details

Good for 5 years – Looks good, you can fit plenty in it when you learn to try different things. I certainly have no issue with my range of dinner plates. It has always cleaned well, though we've lazily learned to remove residue first, primarily to save having to clean a yucky filter too often. However, just shy of its fifth birthday (and me not having remembered… Read more ·  1

that I bought extended warranty) it started leaking from the bottom. After a week of this my husband had a good look around it and discovered that the rubber seal was quite perished. He pulled a 2" long strip away. Oddly, the leaking stopped, for about two weeks. It now leaks a little, and only occasionally. But that is unimportant compared to the horrible screeching sound it makes now, either the sound of the water pump dying or the spray arm screeching. It happens for most of the very long cycle(s) so could just be the arm. It kept the kids awake last night. I was unimpressed when I just found the receipt and realised its extended warranty expired almost 4 weeks ago, given this screeching is only 3 days old.

LG has been great – This is the second best dishwasher we have had. Have had my dishwasher for 1 year and absolutely no problems. Clean dishes every time, short or long cycle options. I rinse heavily soiled dishes, so that the machines don't become clogged up with food particles, which keeps any diswasher running well. Great how the height of the rack system can be… Read more ·  1

Great Mid-range Dishwasher! – We purchased this dishwasher as part of our kitchen renovations and have been pleasently surprised. Does a great job washing and drying dishes. while, since i bought it, but Im still very disappointed by this company and that companies can get away with selling lemons and cover them under : "Warranty" pfft....

I will never buy anything from LG again on principle.

-Several hundred dollars paid for a metal box.

-Pieces of the trays started to fall off within months, a year later all rotted- think it got leprosy

top nozzle kept falling off- despite adjusting water pressure

it has never washed my dishes-cups and glasses to a decent standard- need to pre rinse soak and wash by hand and fingers crossed something happens- ironic..

Will never buy LG ,again-

Don’t do it – It’s very quiet but the shortest cycle is 1 hour and we can never use that cycle because it barely cleans anything. I hope the reason this model of dishwasher has been discontinued is because it’s terrible. Have never had an LG brand dishwasher but I would not recommend them.  Show details

Was ok for the first 4 years – At about 4 and a 1/2 years old this thing started making a heck of a racket after it had been perfectly quiet (the main reason I chose it in the first place). brand.

I see LG have a new model that looks identical ( LD1481W4 ) but the reviews are only from the last year, so I'm guessing it'll have a similar lifespan.

Pity as it was a very quiet machine.

It never was that good at cleaning and I only ever used the quick wash as that took a whole hour.

What a lemon – I bought my LG dishwasher, brand new, in Sept 2010 and we were never very impressed with it. It didn't wash very well and was terrible at drying. The wash cycles were ridiculously long, at over 2 hours for a normal cycle. Even the fast wash cycle went for 1 hour. One of the clips on the lower dish racks broke after only a few months, so the… Read more

bowls would fall over, allowing water to fill up in them. This wasn't a cheap dishwasher but it came with a 10 year warranty on the motor, which probably gave me a false sense of security that the machine would actually last for at least 10 years. I was wrong. As others have said below, it has a lifespan of about 5 years. After an "E1" error message a couple of months ago, I had the machine taken away and looked at by and LG auhorised repairer. They replaced a liner and some hoses, which cost me $473. When I got the machine back, it would just stop washing during its cycles. The repairer took it away again and said it needed new circuit boards but they weren't even sure if that would fix the issue, so they suggested it wasn't worth repairing. I paid $473 for repairs to a piece of junk that is now sitting in my garage with new hoses. I had always liked LG products but would NEVER buy another LG dishwasher.

Annoyed. Fix one thing and something else goes wrong – We bought this machine for Christmas 2011. A waste of time – I have lived with this machine for just over a year now (it was installed by the previous owner of my house around 2.5 years ago) and have found it to be temperamental. My previous machine was more than 10 years old, but was better designed and cleaned all dishes perfectly around 95% of the time (occasionally I'd have to rewash one item). In… Read more

contrast, this dishwasher rarely cleans the entire load perfectly and I regularly have to hand wash the items placed on the top rack along with a few items from the bottom. The plates, cups and glasses often feel gritty, and the machine struggles with cleaning items that have caked on food (you have to rinse everything before loading). I regularly run a bottle of dishwasher cleaner through the machine with still no improvement in performance. The dishes are rarely completely dry and when you remove the bottom filters you can see dirty water pooled underneath. In addition, the auto cycle sometimes disappears as a selectable option (the button will not activate that particular cycle for a period of time and then will commence working again). I also think the cycle times are ridiculously long.

The only positive comment I have about this product is that it is quiet.

In conclusion, I really dislike this machine and plan to replace it with another brand.

An update - December 2015:

I recently replaced this poor performing machine with an Asko (D5456), which I cannot fault. All my dishwashing frustrations have been eliminated. It is quiet. Everything (apart from it being quiet)!

Terrible do not buy! – Everything come out dirty if I do not wash the dishes on the longest cycle, which takes nearly 3 hours! I use the very expensive tablets and even then dishes come out dirty. Disappointed – I am so frustrated with this machine it doesn't wash properly everything comes out with a gritty residue, the door for the detergent only opens occasionally and the cycles are ridiculously long. This wastes water and my time rewashing everything even after rinsing things before being put in the washer. Not happy. Doesn't do the job it is supposedly designed for. A sanitiser and not a dishwasher - repeated call outs, lots of parts replaced and poor response from – I bought this dishwasher to replace a dishwasher that was over ten years old. The old dishwasher worked better than the new one. Right from the first time I used this dishwasher it didn't work well. Since then I have had multiple parts replaced until it did finally start working OK. This took nearly two years and lots and lots of phone calls.… Read more

The repairer kept calling the LG tech, who didn't return phone calls until I would call LG and complain. I became so frustrated that I asked LG about the replacement policy on products and they told me that there isn't one. They told me sometimes they replace an appliance and sometimes they don't. They wouldn't replace my dishwasher, despite me estimating that the call out costs would have been more than I paid for the dishwasher.

After working OK for some time it has again begun to not work well. Coffee cups aren't cleaning, yoghurt is staying on bowls, cutlery only seems to be rinsed and not washed, for example, knives still have meat on them, tiny pieces of grated carrots sticks to grater. When I say "working OK" I mean that we have to scrap off all food residue, rinse and then we can put the item in the dishwasher. I don't regard it as water efficient as I have to rinse cutlery and crockery well before "washing" in the dishwasher.

This appliance has been a huge let down and the lack of support from LG has compounded my disappointment.

Unreliable, keeps breaking down, lack of support from LG, doesn't wash as well as my old dishwasher.

Nightmare! – Purchased dishwasher during house renovations a couple of years ago. It has always been a regret. Complete waste of money! Constantly trying to correct errors on the screen. Well..... a few months in and 1 out of 3 washes this machine doesn't deliver, dishes are dirty!!! not what I call good for a dishwasher.

The lcd button for extra hot has vanished so it doesn't illuminate when I put this on.

The quick cycle - 1 hour - (not quick by my standards!) leaves dishes half dirty. The sensor wash takes forever (yes over 2.5 hours) and again not clean. The economy mode seems to work best for this machine. But 1 in 3 is very hit and miss.

Disappointed with performance, design and running costs – Bought this unit to replace an eleven year old Fisher Paykel, overall this unit doesn't stack up. every time.

The unit sticks 2" further out from cabinetry than usual and the child lock doesn't control the power button so an errant hip or child can start a cycle.

The adjustable height top shelf is a bonus, but I find I don't use it often as it's easier to hand wash greasy or baked on items than run them through the dishwasher twice. Folding/collapsible bottom rack collapses down when small bowls or mugs are placed in it.

The dirty water level in the waste basket is quite high after a load, this can develop a vile smell if you leave it closed and go away for a few days in summer.

Unless I run a cycle every night I find cockroaches inside the dishwasher in the morning. They can get in through the bottom of the electrical panel at the front and take up residence. I don't have a dirty kitchen or food left out, the dishwasher interior is the main attraction. Sick of having to rerun the cycle when I find a dead cockroach in the bottom after the wash is finished. Yuck. Surface spray under the dishwasher and pest controller have been employed without success. A better seal design is required.

Looking forward to building a new kitchen with higher bench tops so I can get an Asko and flog this one off. Least impressive appliance I've bought in a long time. Cheap purchase price, adjustable height top shelf, 14 place setting, 10 year direct drive warranty, requires minimal rinse aid in clean water Sits 2" further out from cavity than FP unit it replaced; long cycle time - 60 min QUICK wash, over four hours for hot, heavy duty cycle; cups come out dirty; lower rack collapses and doesn't sit well in runners; cockroach haven - they can get in through bottom of electrical panel while door is snugly shut; if you pack the cutlery container as LG suggest then no utensils come out clean; dirty rinse water sits in waste basket after load; control design is clunky; need to leave the door ajar to dry after all loads; child lock only locks controls, not power, children or wayward lean can start power.
