Good for a box unit – Brought one of these units many many many years ago. It was a solid work horse used for mostly cooling, but also heating some times. The unit cooled and worked well for our area, but being a box its loud and has no soft start, so shakes the house wall when the compressor kicks in! Had a remote and a timer for turning off or turning on. The later was handy for when leaving the house and having it come on so its cool for your return.

After many years of service, during a update of the room, we ended up putting a split system in for the reduced noise and more 'modern' look Good work horse, cooled and heated.Timer, cheap units Loud, no soft start

Never Again! – Year 1 - Compressor died. LG did not have the correct replacement so they modified the mountings to accept a compressor from another model. As a result the thing rattled as if it had loose marbles in it for the rest of its life. Year 2 - Run capacitors died first week of summer. Year 3 - Ditto Year 4 - Ditto. I suggested that a different compressor might require different run capacitors, but I was told that "a compressor is a compressor mate"

Year 5 - Ditto This time the correct (but refurbished) replacement compressor was found and the problem was finally fixed. Except of course that the compressor mountings still rattled so loudly that it was virtually in breach of council noise regulations. Moreover, the fan now runs at half of its original speeds.

All up, I've had very little use out of this AC. Every time it broke down it took weeks to get fixed. The people at LG were always 'away' or 'on holidays'. Life's Good!

Buying a Panasonic this week.

Terrible reliability and service

Beautiful, hardworking workhorse – We bought this air conditioner because it was the highest capacity heater and cooler for any window mount air conditioner available at the time. Sadly, they don't even make them this powerful anymore. I liked the idea of a window mount because I only needed an electrician to change a power point from 15A to 20A in order to install it. Everything else was done by me (and I'm not even that handy).

What I also liked about it is the infra-red input so you can control it using an LG, Samsung, and some other brands of smart phone. They learn the air conditioner's functions and load them onto your screen; many other split system air conditioners don't have this feature. Just in case you don't have a smart phone, the unit comes with its own 7 button infra red remote control.

In our house this unit heats/cools our whole TV room, kitchen, and hallway, and even on the hottest and coldest days it doesn't give up. In the box it also comes with a drip tray but you need to attach your own external drain hose. We put our drain hose into plastic rubbish bin to catch the water for the garden.

The LG gold series has a lot of extra nice features built in to save power, but also components that won't rust; so the unit will last a long time.

The air conditioner we had before this one used more power and got less done, and made more noise while doing it. The LG we have now is substantially better, a bit quieter, and quite a bit kinder to our power bills. Well built, tough, doesn't quit even on the hottest days, easy to install, easy to clean filters. Noiser than a split system, but all window mounts have this flaw.
