LG MP-9289VSD

Not happy "Jane" (LG) – Brought a MP 9289VSD steam microwave nearly 3 years ago. First year total rebuild. Second year still under warranty another rebuild. Today slowly heats the plate until too hot to hold and food has cold patches throughout. Customer service suggest leave on longer. Harvey tried for a total replacement, then offered couple hundred dollars and they will bin it. LG rep was always too busy to care.
I loved it, now I am terribly disappointed – When I bought it I loved it. Used it everyday, after couple of weeks or so, I realised the front door seal is not sealing properly and call LG for warranty repair. Took the oven to a specified repair place, they saw the problem and said they will fix it. Week later they told me to take it back, that there is no problem with it. I had to call LG again and argue vigorously, that their Owner's manual has a safety warning against it. Took very long and angry argument to get transferred to a supervisor. Finally someone nice, reasonable and helpful.
I sent him my proof of purchase and he arranged a store credit for me. I thought this is a great oven, so I ordered a replacement. I was using all the functions but the grill. One day my husband used the grill and it did not work, I told him that he must have stuffed-up the setting somehow. I tried the grill function much later and it really didn't work. Now likely to be out warranty, not knowing where I put the receipt and having unpleasant experience with the attempted repair I gave up on the grill and used mainly microwave function.
Last week the microwave stopped working. I'm guessing it is about 2.5 years old, and warranty would cover only parts, not labour. Spending almost a 1000 dollars for this oven, I expected much more endurance. I have also LG steam washer and the steam stopped working about 2 months ago.
I am loosing faith in LG product's reliability. Should I invest the time and money in repair or just go buy something else? I don't know what I'll do, but I don't think I'll be buying LG again. (I Hope my newest LG product - TV is not next to go wrong.)
I don't want to deal with repairs.
Hi, I was looking for new microwave and got really good advice from one store person. He told me the shop I purchased it from can reprint the receipt for me. I went there, got it and started to enquire about a repair. The question was - how much would the labour cost to replace a magnetron on this model? They didn't know how long it takes to do the work and said to call LG for this information. I did. Your Customer Care Centre did not care. They don't know and said to call a service centre.!!! I could be calling back and forward for ever. They gave me different phone number and I called. Those people would not even speak to me without seeing the microwave and to see it would cost hundred dollars. How ridiculous!
Some time ago, when I tried to call LG for product (steam washer-dryer) information, I was told that "the steam dryer just means the clothes are not dried completely". Wrong information, the woman had no idea what she was talking about! My experience with LG Customer Care Centre is telling me - do not bother calling, the phone operators have no clue about their products and cannot be bothered to find out. I am done with LG, liked their products, but hate the service.
I saved few hundred on repair and bought new Sharp microwave with the same functions steam, grill...for half the money.
Amazing! – Never tasted steamed vegs like this oven does! No leaching of liquids from the product. Roasted meats, so moist I first thought they weren't cooked enough! Cannot give too high praise for this versatile oven, was going to buy a Thermomix, but this little number cooks everything else into a cocked hat! The ability to cook combination, micro+steam, micro+convection etc is amazing!
It doesn't need any special installation, it's cheap, and very user friendly. All of the above! Bit large for the bench top, wish it could be built in.
I was only going to buy a cheap 'that will do' kind of convection microwave until i spotted the LG MP-9289VSD. It was love at first sight. Im so glad I bought it home. Its amaaaaazing!!! No ....Outstanding. Its a pleasure to use. So versatile, compact and yet can cook a family roast. Get one..you wont regret it!!
Thankyou masd270248 for your review aswell as Carolyn49 ;D Ive ordered the oven through HN and cant wait till I get that phone call from them to say its IN ;D Heres hoping its a good oven, i'll review it in a few months or so.
Hey Masd, I didnt get the model you have, i ended up getting the MA3281T because Harvey Norman completely stuffed me around, so I had to go to another retailer(their service was amazing) that was only selling the MA. Just a question in regards to grilling, is the large element part suppose to glow? Mine doesn't and seems to grill bread pretty slow...
Hi Tigerlily, Actually, you are quite correct about the bread being slow, I don't use mine to grill toast, but still happy with the speed and quality of roasts etc! Will upgrade to the Solardom, when this one gives up the ghost! I have a large Highland 700mm oven as well, and use that for grilled cheese , that's an awesome oven as well!
Hey masd ;D thx for replying! Yeah it is pretty slow at grilling bread..but omg it makes the best crispy cheese on toast (sourdough bread) ever! I actually think my convection is exactly the same as yours, yeah? I have no idea what the differences are. I'm yet to steam any veg yet but I have used the steam clean function...very very handy after cooking greasy food ;D. I don't use the oven that comes with the kitchen we're renting, due to the fact I can't get the exact temp setting, it's just a knob that goes up in 50 degrees increments, nothing in between. Something I should of researched before hand, but does the oven use a lot of power in convection mode? Does it consume more or the same power as a normal oven? Sorry for so many questions lol. Pity there's no chat function with this website, I would love to know what you cook in the lg. Once again thx for replying ;D
I don't think you can compare this to a Thermomix though! I have both, and they are two completely different things
