15 year review - Still going strong – The machine hasn't missed a beat since I bought it in 2007. The secret is do research and after the purchase read the instructions. It has a condenser dryer, they take a long time. If you want a quick dry time then buy a traditional tumble unit. Show details
Over 6 hours for a small load.....and counting – We have moved in to short term accommodation due to the fact that our house has to be renovated due to a flood. The apartment we are staying in has this dryer as our “go to” for getting our clothes washed. I have read all the reviews. Knowing to push the “dry” button prior to starting a wash cycle was a revelation for me. Working out how to… Read more
use that function when required was super helpful. Because, to be honest, it/ not exactly obvious that that is how to preform the wash / dry function of those machine.
I have used other washer / dryers and have had no issue. My main gripe with this machine is that we are a sporty family of 4. My children play a lot of sport, hence there are a lot of sporting uniforms to wash / dry and get ready for the next day.
As I type this, I put a small load of washing on at 7:35am this morning. The load is currently STILL running on the wash / dry function at 2:05pm. I am unable to access the clothes as the door is locked and I have yet to work out how to open it. It’s not immediately obvious, and it doesn’t follow the “push in x button for 30 seconds” rule.
I can’t stand this machine. How this has even made it to market is beyond me. Did anyone at the factory actually test it prior to sending it out to market? I could see it might suit a single person, living on their own who only needs to put a load on at night time while they sleep, but it is useless in any other capacity.
Even giving it one star hurts
Good washing machine, bad combo dryer – I've owned this machine for 13 years. It has been a good washer and is still running well. It has a lot of functions that take hours that i don't bother with. I just use the one quick 30 cycle with the highest amount of spin possible and it does a good job. Whenever I've tried to use the dry cycle it doesn't dry very well. It leaves things damp or… Read more
wet. Also it needs, for some unknown reason to wet the load first before it can dry. The motor broke after a few years and was fixed under warranty with no issues since.
Absolute peice of junk!! Would never buy another LG front loader – The Door continually locks and won’t unlock for hours! wash cycles are hard to understand and ruin your clothes! and the dryer doesn’t dry your clothes!!! It’s the most frustrating washing machine I’ve ever owned! Show details
10 years & still going strong – Fantastic machine. Only once after 3 years, it wouldn't turn on but I discovered the filter in bottom right corner needed to be drained due to being a washer/dryer. I've only had to drain it once every 2 years, it's now 10 years old & still going strong. Different wash cycles set to different spin cycles so obviously you want it to spin at 10 or… Read more
12 to get the dryest spin. It's not like a regular dryer where you'd put a few things for 30min & they'd be dry. If using the dryer, it is designed for busy or working people where you turn on at the wash cycle eg: before you leave for work & then you come home to dry clothes. Clothes have been well cared for using this machine & hasn't worn them out due to use. Cleans & rinses perfectly if spin cycle is on 10 or 12. It's not super quiet but not noisy either.
Bad – The washer/dryer was good at first, however, has deteriorated way to fast for my liking. Dislike no separate spin cycle, and my clothes are never dry after the first dry cycle, it always has to be repeated. Now the dryer cycle doesn't even work. I have had my washer/dryer for 4 years and overall it WAS good, however, I was never satisfied with the… Read more
dryer cycle. We thought this would be a fantastic water saving washer/dryer for our motor home which we live in full time. Water is precious and I found that during the wash cycle, it didn't use too much water, however, when I bought the product, I had no idea the dryer cycle used water. It uses a fair amount of water to dry and so I was often reluctant to use the dryer, even if that meant hanging washing all around my motor home to dry (which is extremely unpractical). The wash cycle over the years has become noisier. Living in a motor home, the machine grinds very loudly and is annoying.
after 4 years the washing machine jams before the spin cycle.
I hate that I cant just spin the clothes, there is only a rinse and spin cycle.
I have found now that because the spin cycle doesn't always work, I have to repeat the rinse and spin cycle 2 or 3 times to get the clothes to spin dry. I have cleaned the machine and had to manually drain the water often.
I have never pulled out dry clothing from the dryer cycle, I always had to put it on a second time - even if the load is smaller than 4kg as recommended. Now the dryer cycle doesn't even work.
If you want to use the dryer cycle on its own, the machine often re-wets the clothes before it starts to dry again.
I would never buy another LG washer dryer again.
You can actually spin your clothes separately to a cycle. Just turn the power on, push the spin… Read more
Good – This machine has been fantastic to our clothes. They are so clean and undamaged and I will NEVER go back to a top-loader with its damaging rotor and bucketloads of water again. Highly recommended. A very solid machine that is perfect for small laundries like ours (we rent a unit). We bought it online and it came with a 2-year warranty. It's… Read more · 2
water-efficient which means it qualified for and we got the $150 rebate from Sydney Water (don't know if that rebate still exists as of 2009). This machine replaced our top-loader and it's the first front-loader we've owned. How do we like it? IT'S GREAT! We never knew that clothes could come out so clean, and undamaged! My t-shirts used to get wrecked in our old machine and I found out that's because the centre rotor in top-loaders stretch and pull at your clothes, which is true because we always used to untangle our clothes from it. With a front-loader like this, that's just not a possibility, and my t-shirts to date (over 2 years now) are STILL in perfect shape and HAVEN'T SHRUNK, even after the drying cycle! This is because (I'm told) the dryer is a condensing one, rather than an exhaust-style one. In other words, you don't need a thick chunky exhaust tube going out the window; the water from the clothes goes out the same pipe as the washing water. A full wash-and-dry cycle takes about 2 to 3 hours, which is longer than some separate standalone machines but it's fine by us. The clothes dry very well if you don't overload it like the instructions say. Ours come out very hot, such that even metal buttons can burn you! There are some reviews here for other models which say the clothes don't dry properly and still come out wet, well that's either because the machine was faulty or they overloaded it in defiance of the instructions (remember: it's 4 KG max for drying, and they're probably trying to dry their full 7 KG wash load). You can set it to wash only and then remove those extra 3 KG to hang on the line, and then dry the rest, but that obviously means you need to be home when the wash cycle is done. If you're going to be out, or wash and dry overnight, just don't load more than 4 KG and you'll be fine. Overnight? Yep, this machine is very quiet, so much so that sometimes my other half asks me if I've started the washing yet! :) This machine uses little water so I guess our water bill (which the landlord pays) has dropped heaps for him. This machine can do both a cold or hot wash, with its own heating for the water, meaning we've only got the cold tap plugged into it but doing a 95-degree hot wash is no problem. Do you realise how much money you save on your hot water bill because of that? Think about it. :) The manual is a bit confusing, and it took us ages to work out how to set a combined wash and dry cycle. (Basically, you press the "Dry" button after setting the wash type, and before pressing "Start". Why the manual just can't say that is beyond me). A bothersome flaw is the lint filter. Lint does build up a bit around the door frame (on the rubber) but that's nothing a wipe with a wet rag won't remove in a hurry -- just do it after every wash/dry. Now a biggie: after a few months lint WILL build up inside this machine, which means the dry cycle isn't 100% effective anymore, and clothes will feel damp after removal. We thought the machine was faulty so we had it "repaired" under warranty, but I watched what the guy did. He just unscrewed the top lid, removed the dryer vent, poked a long metal wire down the back, and pulled out HEAPS of damp, clotted lint! He explained that was blocking the dryer exhaust which means drying wasn't working properly. He then replaced the bits, put on the lid, and drying was INSTANTLY perfect and hot again! Now, there is nowhere for customers like us to open the machine and remove lint, so I honestly believe this method was done on purpose by LG to force us to pay for unnecessary dryer repairs. From a business point of view, it makes sense -- get your customers to call for service every few months, but it reality it makes your machines look cheap and unreliable. I've twice more removed the lid and bits myself to remove the lint when it builds up, which means when the warranty expires I won't need to pay anyone to do it. Other than this "problem" I have no other cons to report about this machine.
Worst thing I have ever bought – From the time I bought the machine I had problems, it has destroyed so many clothes with oil marks, it was repaired under warranty within a few months after the LG people saying it was the detergent or softener but after changing detergent and not using softener still wrecked many more clothes it was repaired. It still does it from time to time, I… Read more
have since bought a dryer as the dryer setting was ineffecient and the worst dryer ever experienced as the clothes came out wet and to wash and dry took an eternity then they need to be dried on the clothes horse. Wash cycle uses little water Cycles are too long, clothes come out harder as spin cycle is harsher than to loaders, dryer us useless.
I totally agree with the drying cycle, I just want to put my clothes in when they are damp and dry… Read more (+2 replies)
Fantastic machine – The best washing machine I have ever owned. I have had mine for 5 years now. It is quiet, spins so fast, the clothes come out almost dry. Options for quick was, or intensive wash. Fits my doonas and washes them beautifully. You can slow the spin down, soak clothes, just dry them/air them after they've been outside. I have bought clothes/towels in… Read more · 1
that have been caught out in the rain and just put them through a spin to wring them out. I put it on overnight in Winter to wash and dry and my kids school uniforms are clean, dry and don't need to be ironed the next morning. There is so much you can do with this machine and as I am very limited in space in my laundry this was the perfect choice and I don't regret it. Never had to have a service/repair. Efficient, inexpensive, So many options, this machine will do so many things well. Spins clothes almost dry at the end of a wash. Condensor dryer doesn't leave my clothes crushed. Very reliable. Never broken down or needed a service call. You can choose to use just the wash cycle, just the dry cycle or have it go through both. A great space saving machine. The instruction manual is hard to understand in places so it took me a while to figure out the lint filter on the machine so clothes didn't dry properly then. Once I did figure it out though, we had perfectly dry clothes again.
Terrible – Stay clear from this one and if someone want to give you one, ask them how much they will pay you first!! It washes clothes? The dryer! Beware the door lock and good luck retrieving your clothes any time soon! I started a light washing/drying cycle last night at 11:30pm, it is now 6:30 and the load is still cooling down with no option to open the door. It is seven hours!!
To open the door when you want clothes out when it's cooling down, just push the power button… Read more
