Best Washing Machine we have every owned! – We have owned this LG WF-T857 since we bought it second hand off someone who was moving and it was only a few months old about 6 years ago in 2012. The machine has been absolutely faultless and handles such a large load with large blankets and doona's going into the machine which has no central agitator but 4 smaller ones which are fairly flat… Read more

at the bottom of the machine. The machines only negative is as others have mentioned it does tend to tangle ones clothes but as it has so many other positives we overlook this. It does seem to generate a lot of lint off ones clothes and this suggests a fairly aggressive washing process even though it has no main large central agitator that you would think would be less aggressive on the clothes. Have not noticed our clothes wearing out any faster over the years but just seems that the two side bag filters for lint have to be emptied every other cycle. The top mounted bubble level is convenient for setting the machine up to being perfectly level which is important for any washing machine to perform well for years. The spare lint filters are available quite cheaply on ebay which is the only thing we have had to purchase as a spare part for the machine. The machine is still performing faultlessly and I hope it will continue to keep going for a few more. We have owned a few different machines over the years and have always bought new and mainly main brand names and all with the standard central agitator. Have always bought the largest size machine with having 5 people in the house. Will definitely buy another LG washing machine top load with no agitator.

Best tip I received was to only use half the amount of washing liquid recommended and never to use softener as it may clog up the machine.

Have problem with dE error code – I was working fine but recently giving too much problem with dE error code. when search on the internet find temporary solution with a magnet but not worth the money. I somehow it did start working, it does its job, but another problem is clothes tangle a lot in this machine since it does not have centre agitator  Show details

Disappointing – After only 2 years the machine started signaling unbalanced load almost every time it starts the spin cycle. I'm very frustrated since it's only 2 years old and to get it fixed is rather expensive... I might as well save my money and get a new one when I can. Washing machines at around $900 should last longer.

When it works it's great, but when it stops – It can be an absolute nightmare sometimes. When it works it's great but every now and then it comes up with UE errors etc. which is a common but painful error to solve as it isn't always simply adjusting the load!!! Nasty on water usage if you don't set the level yourself. I literally only had 4 items in it one day and it picked the heaviest… Read more

load setting without fail every time..

Prone to staining whites and covering clothes in lint too..

It'll do us but I'll definitely do my research next time before buying another part-time lemon appliance.

Extremely disappointed - would NOT recommend – Purchased 4.5 years ago. From the start whites were coming out with dark marks and dark loads with lint over them, regardless of lint bag being cleaned. Lg sent out a cleaning sachet, this did not make any difference, I am a working Mum and am soo frustrated with this product.

Still going strong after 2 and half years – We have owned this washing machine since brand new in November 2013, and since then it has moved homes 4 times since purchase. It has not faulted us once. It is very easy to use and has great load capacity. Hopefully we can get many more years out of it.

LG 8.5Kg purchased in June 2008 – I bought a twin tub to give grease and dirt filled clothes their first soak and rinse in. Then into the LG and they come out 100% clean. I would always do an empty cycle with bleach after these dirty clothes went through. I could then confidently wash colours, then whites, etc without a streak on them. I estimate that my machine would have… Read more

done between 9500 and 10 000 washes before stopping due to a pipe breaking above and water drenching the machine.

I am just about to buy my next 8.5Kg LG. Love them. Bras, clothes with string ties, jeans, long sleeved shirts can get tangled. A bag is handy for bras though not essential.

Great value for money. The filters (on water pipe) needed cleaning regularly when used with lime filled water - to the point where I removed them. The granules stayed in the water and not on the clothes. The lint filters worked well and I cleaned them religiously after each load. I replaced them once and the customer service was great.

The machine can also handle moving house along corrugated roads etc.

I would not buy anything else.

Love my LG WF-T857 – I have had my machine for 4yrs and am very happy with it. I enjoy using all the features, particularly the delay wash. Our clothes are clean sometimes tangled. I use laundry bags for certain items. Now I am finding fine lint over black clothes...not happy!! Overall very happy with mine.

Warning, warning – Avoid this lemon! Stains, damaged clothes, tangled and dirty, covered with lint, massive water usage. Lately it keeps stopping due to out of balance. Why? Not impressed with dealer or manufacturer. Owned it 18 months but can't afford to change. Used every day and tried all recommendations. No good. I see why it was discontinued.

Don't go near it! – It washes ok - however:- You will need considerable time to read user's manual before use - it is not standard simple to operate. You need to select functions each and every time you turn it on. It selects it's own water level - which is usually the highest level even when there is very little in the machine to be washed. Thus water… Read more

consumption is huge.

First time I have purchased a washing machine with no agitator in it - never again!

Washing Performance: Very harsh on anything it washes. Undies get wrecked if put in machine without being in some sort of washing bag ie. the elastic banding is belted around some much it falls apart.

The first washing cycle selection is a full wash which takes around an hour or more with huge water consumption. The little drawer for the washing powder/liquid - you think more about measuring. The machine gives brief warning when washing is finished and then the machine turns itself off. Very harsh washer that consumes copious amounts of water.

Absolute rubbish and LG doesn't care – Leaves horrible black grease stains on whites and white stains on dark's, we've taken it to the LG white-goods electrician in our town and they can't find the reason. We've tried many different types of powders, different types of washing liquids, dissolving the powders in hot water, loads without powders, everything but still get the stains. … Read more

LG ties us up on the phone and will not listen, there are reviewers on multiple websites including their own that have the same problem as us but still LG denies that it is a problem with their machine.

I just want to return this piece of junk and buy something, anything else so this will end but we are on a single income and unless LG issues a refund, we can't afford it.

Like other reviewers, I have been washing for 30 years and have had no problems until this machine, you buy a machine to clean clothes and this one dirties them so I feel swindled... DO NOT BUY!

Leaves Stains on clothes, Bad after sales customer service (messing us around), Does not clean clothes

Not impressed – I have three issues with machine and they result in a fail! (1) the cycle frequently stops due to an imbalanced wash load and i ensure that i always start with an evenly loaded machine; (2) i wash with cold water and the detergent frequently shows up as marks on dark clothing, ie it hasn't dissolved properly and yes, i've tried different powders. … Read more

I've resorted to dissolving the powder in hot water whenever i do a dark load. (3) and this one really annoys me; the spin dry is very ineffective with the items still quite wet at the end of the cycle. My old fisher & paykel (manufactured about 18 years ago) was far superior to this machine. I estimate that drying time would be close to double compared to the fisher & paykel.. The built in spirit level and the time-remaining indicator for the wash cycle.

Happy with machine – We bought this machine in January 2011 when our existing machine blew up. Being just after Christmas, this was well-priced for our depleted budget. We've had no real problems with the machine at all. Another reviewer said something about dirty clothes, I find that as long as a do an empty wash with vinegar every few months this doesn't happen -… Read more

but I think this is necessary for all machines, not just LG.

Clothes can get a bit tangled up without the agitator, so ensure you put delicate or tangly items in wash bags. Inexpensive, large

Close to perfect – I never imagined that I would be talking about a new washing machine but this LG top loader is really so good that I just can't help telling people that I am very happy with it. Great capacity, washes clean, rinses very, very well, manages to rebalance out of balance loads, spins as close to dry as anyone could hope for AND (big deal for me)… Read more ·  1

unlike every other washing machine I have owned every load takes exactly the time that the display says it will take. I thought I would never need or use the 'tub dry' cycle - until it started to rain as I was hanging out my first load. OK - that load in to the dryer BUT what do I do with the second load until the first is dry? That is when the tub dry cycle made sense. Naturally it didn't completely dry the clothes but it did eleiminate any risk of the bad smell that a load damp washing can quickly acquire in Queensland if left in the tub of a washing machine. This is not a small machine so check to ensure you have space for it. I believe that this model is now superceded - if the replacement is better than this it must be really good.

I haven't found anything yet.

So happy with this purchase! – I got given one of these as a present for my second marriage and I am so happy with it. We use cloth nappies, so I normally do a load a day or two loads every second day, and it's just fantastic. It fits so much in as it doesn't have an agitator. If I am in a hurry I just let it choose it's own settings. Love the in built lint catchers too. Lint… Read more

catchers, big capacity, no agitator (doesnt seem to need it!) if left to it's own devices it always chooses a warm cycle with masses of water so maybe not environmentaly friendly that way

great size! – 8.5kg is perfect.I am down to one load of washing a day instead of 3! Choice of different cycles.Even decides it's own wash cycle if I'm not sure. The price was great. The wash is good.

Best washing machine for a large family – I have had this washing machine for nearly 9 years and it is awesome! It was great years ago when we were just a couple as we could do all our washing once a week, but now we have three kids, it is wonderful! It's delay function is perfect for scheduling during off peak power and has no agitator so you can fit large items in like doonas or pillows. Size, Reliability, Functions

Excellent – We've only had the machine about 10 days, but so far are very happy with it. We bought larger than we'd intended, due to good deal, but as luck had it, two days after purchase we had a plumbing leak in the wall which saturated ALL the linen in the linen press! We did a series of washes with the new machine, and got through it very quickly. So… Read more

grateful for the 8.5kg machine then! We'd had a front loader (unhappily) for two years (still working). So happy to be washing in water again! This uses more water, not heaps more, but it washes the clothes clean and fluffy. Towels always came out of the front loader pilled and hard; now soft again. LG recommend dissolving detergent in warm water, which I can't understand. We had powder residue once, on a small load, but only due to excess powder. Otherwise no powder, no lint! However, if LG had printed that recommendation OUTSIDE the box, it may have put us off. Fortunately for them we were committed by the time we saw it. Another oddity is printing the unpacking instructions on a leaflet INSIDE the box! Can't figure that one out. Washes very well; easy to use; huge capacity Instruction manual could be more comprehensive, and easier to understand.

Never buy an LG product again – Another review of my washing machine. After 16 phone calls to LG I have given up and now in the hands of Consumer Affairs.Absolute nightmare.Clive Peters washed their hands of me.Did everything, powder, liquid, more water, less water, different cycles, hot water, cold water but every time it spins out there are dirt marks all over clothes and I have to… Read more

use a damp cloth to wipe clothes.LG are saying its my fault.I don't think so.After 30 years of doing my own washing I think I should know what a good machine is.What a joke,an LG manager actually said to me to take it to Consumer Affairs.I will never buy any LG product again. The warranty is not worth a pinch.I will from now on demand in writing the shop I buy from to have in writing that they will deal with the problem in person.
