Terrible machine – This thing uses so much water!I have a 210 litre hot water service and after 1 wash noone can have a shower because all of the water had been used.Serious water waster!
Dreadful washing machine – We have had a LG turbo 8.5 kg washer for 27 months and it is the worst piece of junk ever. We replaced a Bosch front Loader that had died after 10 years faultless service - wish we had bought another Bosch. The LG constantly leaves scum over the washing which takes a long time to brush off when dry. We clean the two filters after every wash and… Read more
run the Tub Clean function every couple of months. We use liquid Dynamo or Cold Power and always do a warm wash. It is a dreadful piece of junk. DO NOT BUY ONE!!!
Worse machine ever – I purchased this product 5 years ago from good guys and it was the worse decision i ever made on a product. It leaves fluff on the clothes, my clothes are constantly creased so im ironing all the time and last but not least i use so much detergent and softener and still my clothes don't smell fresh. And ive serviced this machine at least 5 times. Ps can't wait till i get a new one but not LG. Show details
Average for the Price – Bought this washing machine 4 yrs ago and lucky we got extended warranty. After 2 years it wouldn't finish a cycle wouldn't drain the water, had someone look at it and they said its the circuit board. They ordered the part and installed it, it ran for 1 wash emptying the water. Back to same problem, another guy said its the pump and ordered it and… Read more
changed it this fixed the problem. Of late I've noticed a small pool of water on the floor after a wash haven't looked into this as yet, but machine is also rough on clothes, everything comes out tangled together, tied in knots.
Worst machine ever! – After 20 years of using washing machines, this one was the worst one I have ever owned. It doesn't wash properly and clothes never looked really clean. Lint from the towels would find it's way on the dark underwear ( I have always washed towels, underwear and pj's together without any problems). I found it really rough on items to the extent of… Read more
some being torn due to the harsh washing cycle. I hated this machine so much I sold it with no regrets whatsoever! I have now bought a front loader machine, which I am so impressed with, there's no going back.
Scum is a problem – I bought this machine a couple of years ago due to the size and it's water efficiency. I ignored the comments about scum on clothes that I had read, as I thought they mustn't be exaggerating. However, the lint and scum problem are disappointing. Even my children comment on the dirty marks left on their white school shirts. If the scum is left till… Read more
dry and then carefully brushed off it is ok. However this is quite time consuming. I keep the filters clean but don't think this is where the scum is coming from. I use a liquid detergent. Didn't have this issue at all with the previous machine. Any help on how to clean the machine properly would be great.
I wouldn't recommend this machine to anyone and would not buy an LG washing machine again based on this experience.
Would go as far as 'I HATE this machine' – I don't even want to give it one star! Had this machine for 3.5 years and so far have avoided writing a review. But I've finally had enough! Just spent half an hour unknotting a rubix cube of washing. Countless clothes have been ruined from being stretched and knotted. Tried everything known to man to avoid this happening and still I hold my… Read more
breath every time I open the lid to see what sort of mess my clothing is in! I've now resorted to hand washing a good majority of my clothing which defeats the point of an expensive machine. You can't put two pairs of pants or a jumper in together and heaven forbid if something has a drawstring on it. Your WHOLE washing ends up tangled together. So so so over this machine. Just waiting for it to break so I can warrant a new one. Never LG again.
I hate everything about this machine. Can't wait until it breaks so I can get rid of it! – I hate this machine. Definitely does not wash the clothes like I'd expect it to. The clothes are always tangled when they've finished spinning and it takes forever to untangle each one of them. And fluff all over the clothes, even though the filters are clear and I put a de-scaler through my machine every couple of weeks. The clothes don't even… Read more
come out smelling nice. I was convinced by the sales rep to buy it saying how fantastic it was. Won't be going back to buy anything from him again!!! Nothing
Can not recommend – I can not recommend this washing machine,it creates more work as I forever have to use a cloths brush on my cloths before I can put them away. The machine leaves fine dust lines on my cloths. Annoying, no matter large load small load or in between you always get the fine dust lines. The tune it plays when you start it,but that doesn't help wash my cloth properly. already explained that above
What a waste! – I bought this top loader after having a terribly experience with a Ariston front loader I had heaped all the front loaders together as trash. I loved it in the shop, a awesome size and snapped it up straight away got it home and was excited about how much I could fit in it and how quick I could get through my weeks washing. Two months later cracks… Read more
started to appear it ins façade. All the clothes always get tangled up together all the time even small loads, so many of my clothes are stretched and out of shape. It doesn't clean the clothes properly, even after I spray, soak, wash straight away I have giant piles of kids clothes that are ruined because they are stained. Thought it was my washing powder and have tried every powder and liquid known to man and it doesn't make a difference. Then there are the lint issues.. I clean the lint filters all the time, separate my clothes perfectly and they still come out covered. So very, very disappointed with this machine and don't even get me started on my LG dishwasher... won't be buying any LG products in the future. Size, wash cycle length Bad clean (non exisitant), lint collecting and a terribly tangler of clothes.
Not good – Does not wash well at all, ive never had so many stains i just cant get out no matter how long i soak or spray, clothes do get quite tangled. Would definitely not buy an LG washing machine again, even though i have never had a problem with their products before. it is quiet
My husband is sick of me talking about how much I love this machine! – Seriously! Every time i walk out of the laundry i say to him, "i love this machine soooo much!". He's over it. Like another reviewer, i was very unhappy with a front loader and passed it on to my daughter. I had a great sales person at bing lee show me all the different washers and recommend this one, based on the experience of staff. This… Read more · 2
machine is huge, and there's not much difference between the drum in this one and the drum in their 10kilo machine: yes, i measured it.
Someone with a lot of laundry experience (or very good consultation skills) designed this machine. Put your load in, big or small, press the on button, select for how dirty it is and then press start. The machine has 'fuzzy logic' and automatically determines how much water you'll need. When it's done it turns itself off, so no wasted power with endlessly flashing lights.
I know front loaders are supposed to be water efficient but my experience was that i needed to do more loads because they didn't hold very much and that even a small load used the same amount of water. We're on tank water so this is important for us. My lg will be much more efficient because it adapts the water to the load, takes a lot less time to clean and, because the bowl is so big, i can do a few huge loads instead of lots of smaller ones. Biggest bonus? All the extra time i have because i'm not in the laundry!
This baby easily handles two sets of queen sized sheets and then some. If, like me, you like to wash your blankets and doonas every year you'll have no trouble fitting them into this. If you want to, you can manually program the soil level, water level, spin speed and wash cycle but most of the time you'll probably just do the three button routine and walk away.
There's no central column in this drum so you don't get a problem with clothes knotting themselves around it. There's two lint filters that are easy to get at and easy to clean. You can wash using cold water but like all machines they recommend an occasional hot load if you do this.
The only down side for me is the absence of a hand washing option. It does have a gentle cycle but the instructions are pretty clear about only using it for woollens marked as 'machine washable'. When i have a jumper ready to throw out i'll test this. Maybe they're just covering themselves.
The lid on this machine is smaller than most so it is possible to mount a dryer above it, provided you're about 5'5" or over (which we are) and your dryer controls can be located on the bottom of the machine. Efficiency in terms of water, energy and time, huge capacity, common sense operation, great machine. There's no hand washing cycle and the instructions recommend only putting machine washable woollens into it. The hand wash cycle on the old front loader is the only thing I'll miss about it.
Best Washing Machine I love it! – After having the worst front loading washing machine I decided to go back to a top loader machine and this LG machine is the best. It is so easy to use, has fuzzy logic, great energy and water ratings, a quick wash when you are in a rush, a timer to set the machine to come on later and it sings to you when it is finished. Easy to use, water and energy efficient, quick wash Show reply

Perfect cleaning machine! – Can't live without this gem of a white good. Easy to use and cleans like mother on heat - except this machine is quiet. If I come back as a washing machine, I hope it's this one. So good. I even bought my mum and grandma one each for Christmas. No regretz hey. Reliable and easy. doesn't come in lime green. Show reply
Excellent – i am very happy washes quite and takes about and hour on a very heavy load and 30mins on a quick wash and can use powered or liqird on problem turns off when finshed washing cleanes clothes great a bit hard to work butters out
Excellent – Great! I love it. I can do my husbands work clothes for a whole week in one wash. 3 pairs pants & 5 long sleeve shirts. Can wash king size quilts/mattress topper without a problem. Manual has a bit about what materials produce lint & what attracts it. Now I can sort my wash to stop getting things out covered in lint. (EG: work socks now get washed… Read more
with towels now as they're both lint producers). No giant agitator to get things wrapped around. GREAT MACHINE. Large capacity. Great wash options (you can then vary the water level/spin level, etc). Easy to follow instructions (read the manual). Has a lovely end tune to let you know it's finished. Turns off to save power. 2 lint filter baskets(clipped into opposite sides) that are easy to take out & rinse. Large in dimension. We had to take off the sliding doors to our laundry to get it inside. Wont go through a standard doorway. (Glad I didn't go the next size up). Clothes can come out a bit tangled, but nothing to bad.
Good – it has been a good buy for our family. it was not the cheapest nor the most expensive machine we looked at but it was we believe the best value for money. it is a large machine that can handle the big loads and performs well when it does it. it looks like a washing machine should, not a prototype from NASA and whilst the controls are electronic… Read more
it is simple in design and straight forward to operate. it functions well and I do love my purchase and believe we made the right choice love, love , love the large capacity of this machine. no agitator in the middle means no tangles. has a great easy to select range of wash options (even hubby manages to operate without reading the manual I might add!) can easily handle queen sized donnas and bedspreads. plays you a little tune when the wash is finished. super quiet machine. We bought this one to replace a front loader that sounded like a helicopter was landing in the laundry on spin cycle, this machine I am happy to say is quiet enough to operate whilst a shift worker is snoozing which makes for a nice change and is often loaded and switched on before I go to bed of an evening without disturbing the sleeping household. it is a lot larger in dimension than my front loader but it also has a larger capacity but if space is an issue, measure up carefully before purchase to make sure you have enough room for it, cos if you have the space, this baby is sure worth it! some reviews have mentioned lint as an issue, I have to say it is not as lint forgiving as my front loader I had but no top loader is. just make sure you sort the wash loads accordingly and lint is not an issue
Excellent – This machine replaced a trusty LG 6.5kg top loader after 8/9 years together. Had no hesitation re-buying LG and am not disappointed. It is large in size due to the capacity but measure up before you commit and you won't be disappointed. No real lint issues - common sense really does apply when sorting your loads and you'll be fine. Fuzzy… Read more
program seems to have been improved since my old machine. Have not had to top up water levels yet although I do miss programming the machine with the lid open and double checking the level the machine chooses. This one you have to close the lid (no split fold like my old one), let it do its thing, pause the cycle, check, adjust program if necessary, then let it go. Overall, really pleased with this purchase. Machine is easy to use, quiet & water efficient compared to old top loader. Nothing yet.
OK – I think a man who either does no washing or does not realise how much washing is created in a family household designed this machine... It looks good...and it has a large capacity. I must be the only person who regrets buying this machine....it is slow, slow, slow. I had a Fisher and Paykel before and I should have bought another one...I also… Read more
really miss having a cycle that can just 'spin', it comes in handy. Friends who stay and use my machine also complain about the length of time it takes to do a load...It is large and it looks good but too many cons to make up for the pro's. If you have a family and usually do more that one load of washing per day..don't purchase this machine...
Good – Have been using this machine for about a month now have had no issues. Love the size and the fact that i no longer have to take blankets and other large items to the laundromat. If i was to be really picky the only issue would be lint but that isnt even that bad as long as you sort your laundry. Love everything about this machine so far
Terrible – Your reviewers must be employed by LG, as this machine and many I have heard of have a severe problem with staining clothing with a muddy scum. The answer from LG is to use a product to clear scum build-up, and then continue to do that twice a week. We did this and it did not fix the problem, and we purchased this product to save water not waste… Read more
it.
The manual advises to occasionally fill the washer with hot water and add a powdered detergent that contains phosphate, leave it overnight then drain and then run a normal cycle, again using water and a not so environmentaly safe phosphate, and it dosnt work either.
The trade practices act says that a product must be fit for the purpose for which it is sold, and this product does not do that.
Having used washing machines for over 40 years we have never had to wash the washing!
LG says the people complaining about this problem on the interet can not be taken serously as the internet is an unreliable source.
So the same can be said about the information placed by LG who as with Thalidomide will not admit they have a problem and hope it just goes away.
Buyer beware!
Scum produced due to faulty design
i have this machine and am quite happy with it
Very Quiet lovely machine – We had to learn how to use it being a quite different type of machine and you cannot put anything else in while it is going, very quite and seems to use less water. It stops when you lift the lid & must not be overloaded

Have you read the instruction manual ? Page 22 tells you how to start a "Spin Only" cycle. It's very simple.
